Best film of the week, Oscar Nominated "Mustang" (2015) is a feminist film directed by Deniz Gamze Ergüven. It is a bittersweet coming of age drama about five beautiful and spirited orphan girls in a village in Turkey who were reported by a school teacher for alledgely rubbing their bodies on boys, when they were just were playing in the beach with them. The angry uncle punishes the girls by confining them in their house, removing objects of corruption, preparing them to be brides, and making sure they stay at home by barricading the entire house. One by one the girls are forced into an arranged marriage. One of them commits suicide to escape her fate, while the youngest two escape and flee from their controlling relatives to Istanbul in the hopes of living their lives. While it is bittersweet, the film resonates lightness, fun, play, laughter, intimacy among sisters, and that rebel spirit.
