the beautiful thing about derry girls is how it made me feel. i laughed of course, it's a comedy. but i cried with them, i loved with them, i got pissed with them, i rolled my eyes at jenny joyce with them. i just felt so involved in their lives, so protective over them, as if they were my friends. it all felt so real, and the fact that a show made me so engaged with only nineteen episodes speaks volumes.

It's the symbolism of the characters growing up by voting to end the violence that's plagued Derry their entire lives okay

To me Orla McCool will never not be the perfect example of a character that you could headcanon as autistic that is treated well by the rest if the cast.
I won't get into a full analysis of her autistic traits in this post, but I totally good. The focus of this post is:
The rest of the girls know she's a bit weird and odd, but she's never bullied for it. They accept her weird dress and behaviors, all of it that is just Orla. She isn't looked down on. She's as much a part of the group as anyone else, even if her whimsical self is doing whatever Orla does.
To me, Orla is a perfect example of autistic-coding in a character and then giving her friends and family that love and accept her. It's so much more healthy than the usual coding in characters.

Jesus Christ I am a mess. God that was so beautifully, magically done.
The gang running to Clare, sweeping over her dressed as angels…give that cinematographer an award right now

i love how they handled the erin x james situation in derry girls
it was so real and so hopeful. james confessing his feelings for erin, and her feeling the same way, but deciding it's best they don't get into a relationship because it could change things drastically with their friend group and if they break up it could create major problems. erin is one of michelle's best friends, and james is michelle's cousin. and they're all part of the same small friendgroup. michelle was right (even tho she was very harsh when saying it) about how it was a bad idea and they just shouldn't get together at that time
but they make it very clear in the end that erin and james still have their whole lives ahead of them, and it is possible that the right time will come for them to be in a relationship if that's what they still want
i just love it because we don't see it often that two people like each other but decide that the best thing to do is to not get together and wait. i love how they awkwnoledge that it's not always the right time and place to be with someone and i love how they prioritized their friendships over a possible romantic relationship

did anyone else notice in s3e6 of derry girls, the whole episode they're complaining at being called swans and no one gets the Romeo & Juliet reference - except, at the very end, the security guard breaking up the kiss calls them Juliet and Juliet 🥲🥲

I am going to be thinking about this sequence for a very long time. and here is not really an analysis but my thoughts.
It opens with Claire on top of the world, she just had her first kiss with the girl she likes
Gerry (Erin's father) clearly cares about all of the girls/boy (shown in the concert episode, and many others) as if they are his now daughters/son
this is a common occurrence in the themes of the show, something amazing happens and then something terrible but that does not mean either is invalid. they can co exist
the way they are sitting in the waiting room. Michelle, Orla, James, and Erin. Its as if the cousins have switched places. Instead of Michelle & James (cousins) and Orla & Erin (cousins) they're more mixed up
Michelle is the only one who knows what an aneurysm is because her mother is a nurse
THEY"RE ALL ANGELS LITERALLY (they are each others guardians)
Orla wraping her wings around them in the group hug
during the funeral, even though the group and Jenny have ever gotten along, Jenny still reaches out to Claire because this is more important than their petty differences
The way Claire and the rest of her group are walking mirrors the way the parents are walking, showing a sort of generational friendship
the song
anyways I strongly recommend this show

No thoughts just that shot of all the girls from Lady Immaculate lining the road outside the church in their uniforms, while the gang walk behind the coffin dressed in black. Like, I know you don't generally wear a school uniform to your father's funeral, but there's just something about seeing a visual reminder of how this event has changed them and marked them as different from the rest of their class. They walk alongside the adults now, they don't stand with the other teens. They've been made to grow up overnight, and now they may never fit back into their old lives.

Okay but after watching Derry Girls season 3 episode 5 again I am just absolutely blown away by how great that episode was and I need to yell into the void about it!!
The content? Absolutely. Fan. Fecking. Tastic. Hilarious as always. 1000/10
Tara Lynne O’Niell yelling “Jeanette! Jeanette! Jeanette! Jeanette!” across a ballroom to get the attention of somebody who snubbed her? 100/10 Would die for Ma Mary.
The casting? ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!! They did an such a phenomenal job of creating the younger versions of the Derry Girls’ mothers while also mimicking the Derry Girls so perfectly! I seriously can’t get over some of the mannerisms and phrases that they perfected! They deserve some kind of award! 10000/10
The costume design? Outstanding. 100/10
The emotional element of understanding that our mothers were likely exactly like us, that they had the same type of dreams and hopes that we do and were once just young girls trying to live their life to the fullest? To CRY for. 10000000/10
