Happy to share a new DUNE painting I made over the last few weeks!
Anyone planning to watch the new movie? I got my tickets for tommorow!
This is Paul Muad'Dib, The exiled young duke of House Atreides, and religious leader of the Fremen people of Arrakis, the desert planet. His unlikely destiny will influence the entire universe for generations to come.
This piece is quite different from how I usually approach my paintings: I went for a high contrast background, and a darker subject matter with a cooler color temperature. It was also fun to play with unlikely focal points, like the dark blue eyes from the spice, and a small vial of stored melange.
Love to know your thoughts on this one!
All the best,
JCH

Lady Jessica from "Dune" (2021).
There are some beautiful stills of Lady Jessica in this film, but since I haven't done a portrait for a while, I thought this view would be a bit simpler than a front view.
I was inspired by @liobabrueckner 's work and a tutorial by @roryonarainbow 's from an old deviantart account. This is a mixed media piece on A3 cold press watercolour paper, using watercolour, gouache, water soluble pencils, and pencil colours. It's hard to see on Instagram, but I used some metallic watercolours (made from old eyeshadow, based on a video tutorial by @emdoessketches ), so there's a subtle shimmer.
Also the pattern on her veil looks like #### and now I can't unsee it

Galactic Gazetteer: Darillium
Type: terrestrial/desert planet

Appearance: "The Husbands of River Song" (2015)
Fun fact: and they lived happily ever after

Welcome to White Sands, New Mexico. Second Stargate episode of any series to film in the U.S. (also helps when the place you've been filming your desert scenes for years has been encroached by green space and later iirc built up, that you had to go look somewhere else to film.)

A character I'm putting in Relationship Level Up, based on a very old concept I remembered. He is a desert wanderer who dwells on a desert planet in a sci-fi game. He often runs afoul of giant sand squid

Westville
(west-vill)
Westville is a planet located in the warmer regions of Astera Galaxy. It is a hot, rocky planet, with long days, and even longer nights, as a ring of dust and rock fly around it.
Westville, and its five moons.
The only sapient species on Westville are the White Horns, a horned, devil-like species, with white skin that somehow doesn’t burn in the sunlight, and very dark gray eyes with white pupils. They live in a small town, known as Hive Town, where they are ruled over by their Queen, Aster, and her smaller husband, King Don.
But Aster and Don aren’t just their Queen and King.
They are also their parents. They are all of the current White Horns parents.
Sadly, due to a disease known as the Eyed Plague, the population of the White Horns has started to decrease, forcing Aster and Don to keep attempting reproduction in order to keep their counts at a decent level.
But they just keep dying...
Guess that’s the price to pay for being Gods to so many mortal children.
