Hey so, I don't mean to be rude or anything, but is there a reason that Wyld looks like Striker?

No worries at all! Okay, guess a little talk about design stuff:

First, here's a very quick sketch-up of Wyld and some of the differences between him and Striker I keep in mind while I draw him.

So, a lot of the reason that Wyld looks like Striker is because they are meant to sorta be mirrors of each other. Lore-wise, you're on the right track! They are partners in crime and childhood best friends (which I go into a lot more into my fic with them). According to Viv, a lot of Striker's inspiration references were classic cowboys, specifically villains like Angel Eyes and Rattlesnake Jake. When designing Wyld, I went back to those, but often looked out for their counterparts. For example, Wyld's Man-with-No-Name to Striker's Angel Eyes. Quite literally, I made him the 'white hat cowboy' to Striker's 'black hat cowboy'.

A lot of other design elements bounce off each other too! Wyld's chap tassels are meant to invoke Striker's jacket's ones. They both have bandanas, but Striker ties his in the back and Wyld does from the front. This sorta calls attention to Wyld being a bit more upfront than Striker, due to tied in the back bandanas usually being used by bandits to disguise their faces. They'd pull it up the rim of their nose.

There's also few subtler things. We know Striker is a hybrid and so is Wyld, but what their mixed with changes. I headcanon that Striker is mixed with some kind of snake, which appeared to be common in Greed. That gives rise to the 'rattlesnake' vibe he's got going on. Wyld has family in Envy, who have very strong, classical 'sea monster' appearance to them. This is why Wyld has a little more dragon-like and crocodilian influences to him, as well as his cooler color tones:

Funny enough, their horses are almost opposite of them. Matchbox, Wyld's horse, is inspired by Kiger Mustangs aka Tiger Striped Mustangs, though I usually call him a Lavastripe Mustang.

I don't always draw the cowboys in color though. I am a big fan of them in Sepia tones X3

But, yeah, again no worries at all! If they look alike, they were kinda meant to. But no, they're not related X3

this week -

the mornings have been cloudy with the sun occasionally peeking out.

i visited a partially crowded waterfall river that had a small temple perched in it’s centre - the waterfall is named after the goddess in the temple, an ancestral tutelary deity. watching the water cascade and splash within the space they’ve created among the rocks was insanely therapeutic.

reading has been chaotic:

began ruined by design by mike monteiro; it’s a required reading for my upcoming semester and i have so many questions. definitely setting the tone for the semester though.

making good progress on we the drowned by jensten carsen - again, lots of thoughts. it’s agonisingly slow and it’s not a book i can binge-read; still get excited to continue it everyday.

kept things fall apart and flight of deities on hold because i figured they need more attention and focus than i can give right now.

i started taking illustration seriously again (due to a trivial instagram story where i posted stuff i previously made and the consequent encouraging messages i received).

sorting through adult design thoughts while simultaneously making up my own version of Earth C events because why are the epilogues/hs2 like that. Anyways I started with the Striders because I have the most thoughts for them!

Additional notes I forgot to write down:

Dirk has so many piercings because I hc he gives himself piercings or new tattoos every time he needs to curb a stupider impulse (I didn't draw tattoos because I am bad at them and also had no design ideas for them yet pfff)

Dirk also wears black nail polish all the time, I imagine he has chipped black nail polish on at all times.

Dave doesn't like haircuts because he gets antsy when sharp objects are near his neck.

Dave is albino and Dirk is not (hard to tell since I didn't fully color these)

Hi! First off, want to say I love the blog. Been keeping tracks of this account since 2014-2015. I always feel like I end up learning something new about the series here in one way or another. Also always appreciate the silly shitposts too.

I was hoping if you 'd be able to help me with something though, if that isn't too much of a bother. I'm slowly chipping away at an extensive PPG AU project and I've noticed that it's pretty difficult to find a lot of things I'm looking for. Particularly, I've been trying to find a reference for background characters in the show and compilations of what the interiors of various settings look like (such as the Professor's home, Mojo's layer, and Pokey Oaks Kindergarten). If you or anybody else has any resources for either of these things, or really any resources regarding character and set design pertaining to the series, I'd love to to know. I've mostly been getting my information from analyzing the cel-animated seasons of the show and was hoping there was a bit more. Once again, really love the blog and have for a long while. Apologies if I'm being a bother here. Have a good day! :]

Awww, hey, I’m glad you’ve been hanging around! I consider this to be the Mojo Jojo of PPG blogs: you can come here to not only find thoughtful, intelligent, well-written/curated posts about all manner of amazing PPG knowledge but also the goofiest most shitposty shitposts you’ve ever seen in your life. 😆 I strive for versatility!

As far as all of those settings go, I mean… you’re basically already doing the right thing already by watching straight from the source. Now, if you’re looking for some sort of production document listing out some canonically consistent layout of some of the locations in Townsville, you probably won’t find much since they would invent rooms and spaces in places like Mojo’s lair and the Utonium Chateau all the time out of necessity for whatever episode they were making. I’d just take everything from what you’ve already collected and kind of average it all out.

As for characters, check out this post by the amazing and talented @pumpkinpuffgirls that goes into detail about their designs. It’s more about constructing new OC designs that fit into the design sensibility of the show, but there are some production models in the post that might be helpful.

…now that I’m thinking about it, someone also once made a layout of the Utonium Chateau (in Japanese), although this is what I mean by averaging everything out: this isn’t canon, but it IS at least an average of some of the rooms/room placements that are seen in the show that you could use for stuff like AUs.

If I find anything else that could be useful I’ll add it here… but maybe those links could help as a start!
