Although Rotterdam-based Austrian designer Laurids Gallée @laurids.gallee has been producing resin work for other designers for some time now, his latest series of furniture constitute his first creative endeavour with the material as a designer and craftsman. Sporting a candy colour palette, which imbues the resin with a neon luminosity, the pieces are composed of slender prisms fused together to create pixelated-like, ethereal extrusions. We can’t wait for what the #designacademyeindhoven graduate will design next. SHIPPING DESIGN RESOURCES WORLDWIDE!⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣Graduation 2018 Design Academy Eindhoven⁣ Available at www.draw-down.com⁣ ⁣ Published to accompany the 2018 graduation show of the Design Academy Eindhoven, this volume offers a platform for addressing aspects of design practice that underpin or transcend the object, and the connecting themes.⁣ ⁣ “There is something paradoxical about the contemporary design school,” write Joseph Grima and Jurriënne Ossewold in the introduction. Successfully arguing that everything is design, and that design is relevant to everything, risks becoming an institution’s undoing. Chunk Out Ward Wijnant (b. 1987, Tilburg, the Netherlands) developed during his studies at the ‘Wood and Furniture College’ various furniture making techniques and a board material knowledge. However, the manufacture of a furniture piece was not enough for him; Wijnant missed depth, creativity and the story behind an object. At the ‘Design Academy Eindhoven’ he learns conceptual thinking and working. He graduated as an independent designer and started his own company in 2015. Wijnant’s work is characterised by experimenting with materials and looking for boundaries in them. The unexpected as a discovery in a produce is meaningful for him. His work is already exposed at exhibition such as ‘Object Rottedam’, ‘Salone del Mobile Milano’, ‘Venura New York’, ‘Dutch Design Week’ and ‘Operae Turino’. Now Wijnant’s designed ‘Chunk’ and this candleholder is giving ‘neon urchin’ life! #neonurchin #neonurchinblog #dedicatedtothethingswelove #suzyurchin #ollyurchin #art #music #photography #fashion #film #words #pictures #neon #urchin #wardwijnant #designer #netherlands #designacademyeindhoven #houtandmeubilerings #space #chunkcandleholder https://www.instagram.com/p/B3eaVEEA7vb/?igshid=1h1n2j80rvap2

“Smoke in the Rain” It was raining and cold today. I saw a group of bald man smoking outside of a building. The rule was designed to prohibit secondhand smoke inside. It put these people out here. In this historical moment, the work of Erez Nevi Pana should be under a particular spotlight. Not only for his research, which aims at the production of pieces that scientifically investigate the present, but also for the use of materials and experimentations in the Design world, starting from a sustainable, 360° approach. In 2020 design must respond to a lot of questions, such as the production…

Without Horizons / Graduation project, 2015 / Vincent Thornhill / Design Academy Eindoven
Vincent_Thornhill_Thesis_LoRes.pdf vincentwork.com
The horizon frames our sense of distance and scale. The self has no scale. With every perspective added, every new horizon created, our image grows out of proportion to our single point of perspective. Using one point perspective as a framework, this research publication and pictorial study considers an alternative orientational paradigm in order to expand our notions of self, as the use of digital imagery becomes more and more prevalent in our lives. The digital image offers more than representation through provoking us to question the way we see, our subjective relationship to the world and to each other.
The orientational paradigm of the digital image disrupts the linear perspective we use to structure our experience. With every image made, lines of perspective converge towards different horizons. The sense of individual points of convergence begins to diminish, and the texture of grid surfaces. With more perspectives taken into account, the grid becomes denser, more detailed. Its resolution increases.
Where our ‘one point perspective’ can be seen as a limiting the subject-object relationship, the grid of the digital image breaks apart this dichotomy, using multiplicity — the pixel, the camera, the screen, the network — to illuminate our plurality. In doing so, the digital image can show us the reality of our image, simultaneously more defined and more distorted than we are able to perceive.

Last October, Design Academy Eindhoven's 2019 Graduation Show took over the historic Campina milk factory for the second year in a row, a decommissioned 1960s industrial complex on the Eindhoven Canal, where the vast collection of graduate projects were grouped into kaleidoscopic narratives mapping various possible futures of our society. Ranging from the highly conceptual to the shrewdly practical, from technologically ingenuity to innovative craftsmanship, and from socio-political engagement to cultural commentary, the projects on display not only take on the most pressing issues facing the world of today but also showcase the design talent of the future. 1. How do we perceive space around us? Comparing to my childhood, I feel like I’m not fully engaged to the moment and space that I’m living in. I used to explore things with full of curiosity. Curious what’s under table, couch and over the fridge. So what’s the difference? Actions of exploring, and tactility. We are too ‘adult’ to do these things. I wanted to bring these elements back to our daily life. I wanted people to touch, and play with the objects, so that we can re-activate our senses from our hands and bring back our curiosity. Just like we did when we were young. - So I designed two objects. A lighting, and a rack. Creating an object that lights up when it is pressed/deformed. Light is something you constantly use in our daily life which means you will touch it frequently. You actually have to explore and try different gestures to find out what kind of gesture will turn the light on. Also I designed a rack that deforms when you put something on it or even you have to deform it to open it up. - From boring daily routines, these action of pressing, bouncing, and twisting movements will enrich your tactile-senses, which (I hope) can bring us back to our childhood of perceiving the world. #design#product#productdesign#light#lighting#rack#shelf#art#designacademyeindhoven#dae#디자인#조명#선반#제품디자인#네달란드#유학 (at Design Academy Eindhoven)
