Had to turn down a great job because the company (kinda secretly?) works with Catholic schools

First time posting here, howdy everyone 👋

This happened yesterday and I am still seething. I got a job offer after two interviews which went surprisingly well. It took a lot out of me as someone who is incredibly anxious. I was so excited to get the offer and was literally 15 minutes away from accepting it during a scheduled call with the recruiter when I stumbled upon a page on the company’s website detailing how proud they are of their long-standing relationship with Catholic dioceses and schools. They tailor reading materials especially for them, sponsor contests during Catholic Schools Week, etc. Excuse me? Why was this buried so far into the website? Why didn’t this come up during my interviews? Working on these materials wouldn’t be a central part of the job, but wouldn’t they want to make sure candidates are at least AWARE of these partnerships before moving along in the interview process? It was like a weird secret.

I don’t know, this might not be a big deal to some people, especially since it was so downplayed, but come on. I can’t work for a place that supports that institution. It sounds pathetic but I was literally crying because of the frustration at finding this out so late in the process.

I’m glad I found out before accepting, but WOW. I invested a lot of time and energy into the interview process so it really sucks to have to turn down the opportunity. I feel really stuck at my current job and I was really looking forward to moving on soon. Back to the job boards I guess!
