Holly and Eve
Detective Sam Sullivan looked at the woman’s body and raised an eyebrow. Something wasn’t quite right. The morgue’s Medical Examiner looked at him. “Did I miss something?” Sullivan shook his head and lowered his eye, which, by the way, was killing him from the punch he took two nights before. “No, nothing immediately, but something’s not right. Thanks.” Something Wasn’t Right. Detective. Who…

Black Coffee, Scottish Accents and Noodles
Black Coffee, Scottish Accents and Noodles
Black coffee is described in a google search and by various people who drink it as a coffee that has nothing added, no cream, no sugar, no sweetener, no milk, and nothing at all.  While im at work, I have people ordering black coffees with 2 sugar or one milk, and I know it’s something little, but it makes no sense to me cause a black coffee has nothing in it by definition. It seems very small…

#lecture #reading #agathachristie #herculepoirot #detectivestories #romanpolicier #ordreetmethode #toutestdanslamoustache #lespetitescellulesgrises #ipreview via @preview.app (à Paris) https://www.instagram.com/p/ChmB5EDMacw/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Dark Web cover illustration
Newest cover for Christopher Brewer's ongoing novel series following protagonist Alice in her dark detective adventures. This is the fifth cover I have done for the series, and all of them are on "my favourite illustrations" list, something a project rarely holds for long, and the first that doesn't have Alice in red. This time the title indicates Alice going up against a hacker collective and we considered a lot of computer imagery, even using AI, when the term "firesale" rose to the top and with it, images of fire. Eventually the final idea became Alice defying death itself by standing up (or lying down but still holding her own - umm, I think I lost the visual here) against Charon as the Grim Reaper.

Reading 'Death comes to Pemberley' by P.D. James and admiring how even more than a hundred years after the birth of Sherlock Holmes Sir Arthur Conan Doyle is still the best detective writer out there.
In this book, which is obviously a sequel to 'Pride and Prejudice', a man is killed in the woods. His body is carried to the house, and the doctors examine it. After that they come to the conclusion that he was basically beaten to death. But everybody who is present knows that the witnesses heard several shots. And nobody, just nobody says something like: "Oh, this is bizarre - what about the guns then?" And the reader is simply left to wonder why the characters all of the sudden forgot this fact and nobody seems to be using their brains or at least some common sense. And the story just starts to fall apart, because we are so used to see the work of logic in a detective story (thanks to Conan Doyle and his character) that it is almost impossible to believe in one without it.
