as a lot of you know, limbus company recently fired its CG illustrator for being a feminist, at 11 pm, via phone call, after a bunch of misogynists walked into the office earlier that day and demanded she be fired. on top of this, as per korean fans, her firing went against labor laws---in korea, you must have your dismissal in writing.
the korean fandom on twitter is, understandably, going scorched earth on project moon due to this. there's a lot currently going on to protest the decision, so i'm posting a list here of what's going on for those who want to limit their time on elon musk's $44 billion midlife crisis impulse purchase website (if you are on twitter, domuk is a good person to follow, as they translate important updates to english). a lot of the links are in korean, but generally they play nicely with machine translators. this should be current as of 8/2.
Statements condemning the decision have been issued by The Gyeonggi Youth Union and IT Union.
A press conference at the Gyeonggido Assembly will occur on 8/3, with lawmakers of the Gyeonggi province (where Project Moon is based) in attendance. This appears driven by the leader of the Gyeonggi Youth Union.
The vice chairman of the IT union--who has a good amount of experience with labor negotiations like these--has expressed strong support for the artist and is working to get media coverage due to the ongoing feminist witch hunts in the gaming industry. Project Moon isn't union to my knowledge, but he's noted that he's taken on nonunion companies such as Netmarble (largest mobile game dev in South Korea) by getting the issue in front of the National Assembly (Korea's congress).
Articles on the incident published in The Daily Labor News, Korean Daily, multiple articles on Hankyoreh (one of which made it to the print edition), and other news outlets.
Segments about the termination on the MBN 7 o' clock news and MBC's morning news
Comments by Youth Union leaders about looking into a loan made to Project Moon via Devsisters Ventures, a venture capital firm. Tax money from Gyeonggi province was invested in Devsisters in 2017, and in 2021, Devsisters gave money to Project Moon. The Gyeonggi Youth Union is asking why hard-earned tax money was indirectly given to a company who violates ESG (environmental, social and governance) principles.
Almost nonstop signage truck protests outside Project Moon's physical office during business hours until 8/22 or the company makes a statement. This occurs alongside a coordinated hashtag campaign to get the issue trending on Twitter in Korea. The signage campaign was crowd-funded in about 3 hours.
A full boycott of the Limbus Company app, on both mobile and PC (steam) platforms. Overseas fans are highly encouraged to participate, regardless if whether they're F2P or not. Not opening the app at all is arguably the biggest thing any one person can do to protest the decision, as the app logs the number of accounts that log on daily. For a new gacha such as Limbus, a high number of F2P daily active users, but a small number of paying users is often preferable to having a smaller userbase but more paying users. If the company sees the number of daily users remain stable, they will likely decide to wait out any backlash rather than apologize.
Digging up verified reviews from previous employees regarding the company's poor management practices
Due to the firing, the Leviathan artist has posted about poor working conditions when making the story. As per a bilingual speaker, they were working on a storyboard revision, and thought 'if I ran into the street right now and got hit by a car and died, I wouldn't have to keep working.' They contacted Project Moon because they didn't want their work to be like that, and proposed changes to serialization/reduction in amount of work per picture/to build up a buffer of finished images (they did not have any buffer while working on Leviathan to my knowledge). They were shut out, and had to suck it up and accept the situation.
Hamhampangpang has a 'shrine' section of the restaurant for fans to leave fan-created merch and other items. They also allow the fans to take this merch back if they can prove it's theirs. Fans are now doing just that.
To boost all of the above, a large number of Korean fanartists with thousands of followers have deleted their works and/or converted their accounts from fanart accounts to accounts supporting the protests. Many of them are bilingual, and they're where I got the majority of this information.
[note 1: there's a targeted english-language disinformation campaign by the website that started the hate mob. i have read the artist's tweets with machine translation, and they're talked about in the second hankyoreh article linked above: nowhere does she express any transphobic or similarly awful beliefs. likewise, be wary of any claims that she supported anything whose description makes you raise eyebrows--those claims are likely in reference to megalia, a korean feminist movement. for information on that, i'd recommend the NPR/BBC articles below and this google drive link of english-language scholarly papers on them. for the love of god don't get your information about a feminist movement from guys going on witch hunts for feminists.]
[note 2: i've seen a couple people argue that the firing was for the physical safety of the employees, citing the kyoani incident in japan. as per this korean fan, most fans there strongly do not believe this was the case. we have english-translated transcripts of the meeting between the mob and project moon; the threats the mob was making were to......brand project moon as a feminist company online. yes, really. male korean gamers aren't normal about feminism, and there's been an ongoing witch hunt for feminists in the industry since about 2016, something you see noted in both the labor union statements. both NPR and the BBC this phenomenon to gamergate, and i'd say it's a pretty apt comparison.]

The new Infinity Nikki update is... huh. I've been playing gacha games for a long time, and I've never experienced the devs dropping the ball quite this hard before.
And like? I could deal with the 11-piece outfits, I've been expecting them to go there for a while. If it was only about the gacha and bugs then I would consider the compensation (30 pulls) adequate, as long as they fixed the bugs.
But for them to scrap the original intro to the game and clumsily replace it with a glorified ad for the new banners? With no warning? It honestly left such a sour taste in my mouth I don't even feel like logging in right now. It really makes it seem like the devs have no long term plan, and just went "oh, the players want a more engaging story" and instead of, y'know, actually continuing the story we had, fleshing out the characters we know they just? haphazardly throw away bits of the plot and replace it with something else? Again, with no warning?
It's just like, what the hell happened? Who thought this was a good decision?

📍 Infinity Nikki & Infold Games: The Slow Death of a Dream (A Very Tired, Very Sad Rant)
I didn’t expect to be this upset over a fashion game, but here we are.
Infinity Nikki had everything it needed to succeed: visual magic, creativity, charm. But Infold Games didn’t just mismanage it. They butchered it.
Here’s everything that led me to uninstall the game and boycott Infold entirely—even Love and Deep Space.
🎨 1. The Dyeing System: From Creative to Capitalist
A system that used to be about expression has turned into an in-game economy designed to squeeze money out of color palettes.
You cannot freely dye outfits. Each color unlock requires rare materials, and if you want to unlock an entire outfit set? You’re paying or grinding through ridiculous amounts.
Worse? Every piece of a set has its own palette. Not just one. Not even one per outfit. One per piece
💫 2. The 11-Piece Dress Gimmick
In trailers: It did not appear to be an 11-piece set. But it was still a beautiful outfit
In the game? You need 220 pulls to get them all.
Then, if you want to dye them? Be ready to farm materials individually for each piece.
It’s not a bonus. It’s a trap.
🌀 3. Sea of Stars = A Giant Empty Shell
Let’s talk about the Sea of Stars: a gorgeous zone that feels utterly pointless.
You go there once a day, do 3 commissions like “sit on a bubble” or “run around and touch fish”, and leave.
It’s childish. It’s insulting.
I get that maybe they wanted to attract younger players—but not at the cost of dumbing the game down for everyone else.
The only semi-cute feature? Seeing ghost silhouettes of other Nikkis walking around.
The rest is an empty loop of “co-op” that barely matters and gives nothing meaningful.
🧵 4. The “Apology” That Wasn’t
After all this, the devs gave a “compensation” reward of diamonds spread over daily logins, and some random items via email.
This isn’t an apology. This is lip gloss on a sinking ship.
🗣 5. Influencers… Who Never Played
What really rubbed me the wrong way was seeing so many gaming influencers (mostly male) jump in to comment on the drama.
Not because they were fans. Not because they cared.
But because they saw it trending.
This game was built for a community that actually cared about style, softness, worldbuilding, aesthetics. And when it failed? The loudest voices weren’t from us.
They were from people who never played it in the first place.
🧠 6. The Retcon = Why?
Some people said the lore retcon was added just to accommodate co-op.
But like… why?
Co-op is a universal system. You can add multiplayer without nuking your entire narrative. The new story direction felt forced, empty, and frankly, damaging.
💔 7. Why I Left
I haven’t logged in for 20 days.
I uninstalled the game.
And honestly? I didn’t want to.
This was my first real experience with a dress-up game. I’ve played combat-heavy RPGs and gacha before. Never something soft, whimsical, aesthetic like this. Infinity Nikki was supposed to be that escape.
I invested so much time and effort into this game, more than I should have.
And Infold took that and turned it into a monetized loop of disappointment.
I even had to boycott Love and Deep Space, and that hurt. I liked the characters. I liked the vibes. But Infold is clearly incapable of respecting their own player base, so I refuse to support them further.
💸 8. Free to Play? Just Say You Want My Wallet
If you’re going to build your monetization this aggressively, just be honest.
Slap a price tag on it and stop pretending this is free-to-play.
Because it isn’t. It’s pay-to-decorate, pay-to-express, pay-to-exist.
👗 And the Final Straw?
Yeah, this post is late. It’s been over a month since the launch disaster. But I saw the new update and… meh.
That was the final emotional kick.
Infold Games didn’t just mess up Infinity Nikki.
They disrespected their players.
They over-monetized what should’ve been joyful.
They built something full of heart—and ripped the heart out.
I’m not even angry anymore. I’m just sad.

Weight Loss Diary - One Week In
Hello! A week has passed since I started taking Mounjaro (details here), and wow what a week it's been. I took the first dose at around midday on Saturday, and started logging what I felt throughout the week, so I don't forget what I need to say today! This is a slightly longer post because I have so much I need to share.
(side note: I cannot recommend the app Shotsy enough! It's made by a dev who's on weight loss injections themselves, and it's great to track your symptoms, but, crucially, to remind you when (and where!) to jab)
Anyway, let me get the boring bit out first and just tell you about the side effects I got. Then we'll get to the exciting bit!
Day one: FATIGUE. And I mean, really exhausted like I'd just done a night shift.
Day two: BURPING. And I mean, lots of burping. Way more than your average fat Arab man, if you can imagine so much gas.
Day three: CONSTIPATION. Now, my poops are normally very loose (think chilli-con-carne-consistency. I make no apology for this, there's no other way to describe it), since this day, they've been..... normal. Which is very weird for me. So, it's not really constipation as such, but if you start off with normal poops, I suspect you will get constipated. The BURPING continued in full gusto.
Day four: HEARTBURN. I suffer from that a lot anyway.
Day five: WEEING. This was the only day where I wee'd a ton. More on this later.
And that's it. These were all relative mild and self-limiting symptoms thankfully.
Now for the exciting bit.
The very next day, someone pressed a switch in my body. And that switched turned off something I didn't even realise I had: food noise. This is an informal term for what I thought was just normal: constantly thinking (and planning) in terms of food.
In my case, it's not like I was always hungry and grazing, but it did mean that my typical day would be something like this:
Breakfast. Feel hungry around 11, think about what snacks to have. Most likely get a snack.
Lunch. Have something sweet after lunch. Think about what snacks to buy for the car journey back home. Buy said snacks.
Dinner. Have dessert after dinner. While having dinner, think about what meal plans are for the rest of the week, crucially the weekend because it's the weekend and you have to indulge.
Stay up too late playing a video game. Think about the snacks you're gonna have while everyone is in bed. Eat said snacks.
Feel like shit because you did all the above and think that you'll never to do it again.
Repeat the next day.
Notice something there? All that thinking about food. ALL. THE. DAMN. TIME. I had just assumed that this was normal for every single human being on earth, because everyone is created in my image, right?
Until someone hit that switch. And all of this thinking just.... disappeared. Gone. Even writing about it now I feel exhausted, I don't know how I was living with it for so long.
Obviously, this lead to me eating much, much less. By that I mean I still had an appetite, but it was only for main meals, and a lot less of them than usual. The drug makes you feel full quicker and for longer, which is definitely the case for me. It also made me eat much, much slower. Usually, on our dinner table there are shovels rather than knives and forks, Guinness World Records have been broken at our table. I'm not sure if this slower eating is because I'm still not sure what my full limit is yet, or whether it's another effect of the treatment.
Either way, it's great because I realised that food is a lot more enjoyable when, you know, eaten properly. Who knew?
Finally, that sweet tooth I've had all my life? Gone. As in, on the rare occassion this week where I had something sweet, I had one biscuit rather than four, and I felt it was enough. I enjoyed it, but didn't need more nor want more. I didn't miss eating a ton of sweet stuff. I just didn't want it. I "cheated" one day and had two (two!!) chocolate digestives, and felt like I'd eating a massive chocolate cake!
It was like Mounjaro was the lift in Severance, and my innie is this new person who doesn't remember what food noise is. If you've never seen the series (you should) it's about a sinister corporation whose workers have a chip in their brain that makes them completely forget their work day and vice versa. So when they go down the lift to work, they forget everything of their outside "outtie" life. They become different people effectively. "Innies." When they go up, they can't remember a thing of what they did at work.
Taking Mounjaro has felt, to me at least, like I was being severed. Severed from the noise I never knew was an issue until now.
And wow is it liberating.
Finally, here's what the scales say today. 2.15kg weight loss. With other diets that have worked for me (Atkins, 5:2) this weight is most definitely water loss, as I tend to wee buckets in that first week. This time, I don't think it is.

dev log (11/08/24)
soo, chapter 2 is a good 8k words long rn, and things are going smoothly so far. just finished writing seven different variations of a bar fight scene, and whew! hope you guys will be satisfied with the options lol
unrelated to the next update, i got a bit inspired and on a whim wrote a 2k words long scene for one of the future chapters, and boy is it messy 👀 (hint, it's someone's breakup scene 👀)

OH MY GOSH OH MY GOSH HGJGTFH GUYS I LOVE SOTE SO FUCKING MUCH AAAAAAA I got back to playing it and it was so much fun today I HAD A HUGE BLAST TODAY GOD LET ME JUST share a log (probably a two parter)
1) So I continued on my way through the woods!! I was not wrong about how these guys were invincible too! By that time @val-of-the-north woke up and confirmed that you only really can sneak past them by crouching in the bushes! In fact, there were preset notes from the devs with the hints and I just haven't payed attention.. т.т So the stealth quest took me Eniugh attempts
2) I intentionally got close to this plant because from the looks of it I thought it was a collectable material or something:

Turned out that it actually was a bell that instantly alerts the Untouchables and attracts you to them ;-; Well you fuck around and find out I guess XD
3) I then found the mansion!!!! This took me a while too, this forest is SO confusing! I will never EVER talk shit about Forbidden Woods from Bloodborne again ;-; But on the bright note, although I am extremely bad at confusing open world locations and maps in general, I managed to strain my mind and actually remember which turns I've already visited and not! Conquering my weaknesses!
4) I was surprised to find..... this

There is a line of headless corpses like this before the entrance. I assume their heads exploded from Frenzy of course?
5) Instantly was interested because of the amount of thrown and burnt books everywhere here! I was thinking, so was Midra a huge nerd then? 🤔 How the painting was the only non-ruined and unburnt thing here was cool too. I told Val "damn the art in this setting really IS the magic".. and, well, it kinda is? When you examine the paintings in artist shacks, they do mention how the soul is dwelling in them still or something like that

6) The painting also depicted the Manse when it was still thriving and the land wasn't afflicted by Frenzied Flame!

I wanted to take a better screenshot of it by zooming in...... and accidentally hit it instead and it disappeared 🤡 It was an invisible wall! I swear only I could have failed in such a dumb way gfhggvn
7) THIS IS A SURPRISE TOOL THAT WILL HELP US LATER:

Turns out that this is an in-universe hint for how the Aging Untoucheable actually CAN be killed! But perhaps I am getting ahead of myself.... -_-
8) So basically 'how there are THIS many books everywhere' continued. They are literally everywhere. And then even more because there is a library. Damn, this guy could compete with Micolash on the subject of 'insanity displayed by books tossed everywhere chaotically'!! I was already curious!
9) Speaking of curious, I really wondered why Midra himself didn't have the horns! From prior descriptions and a dialogue by another ghost by how they and Midra are of the same brethren as the Hornsent inquisitors that hunted them, I assumed he should have been the Hornsent himself and maybe earlier I didn't see it clearly on the portrait. Heck, the ghosts in the Manse also have horns!

But nope. There were no horns on the portrait, and then I was extra sure during the cutscene..
10) aaaaand I fucked up and COMPLETELY forgot to take the screenshots during his battle ;-; When I got to this post I thought maybe I snapped some during my many deaths, but no I didn't. I forgot. I got too caught into it..
11) I already heard that he would be a boss, so when I first met him as just an enemy I needed to kill I knew it was just a lead up for the battle xd Though I didn't dodge his grab attack in time and it felt.. odd when he howevered over Tarnished and laughed already 🤔 And.... siiiggh..
12) friends: Katy Katy Katy oh my god you really should find the Frenzy guy in the DLC you will like him so much we just can tell!!!
me: Get LOST with this guys, I am not interested in some random guy parasiting on Shabriri lore, besides unlike you CASUALS I do not simp for taken characters so he can get kicked into the same nonsimpable box as Rykard and Rellana! Also, still picturing you guys as CASUALS, no Aldrich married to Rosaria is different as it isn't simping but reverence!!!
me: *spends next ~40 minutes being absolutely lost in this boss' vibe to the point of literally drooling, gets overall absolutely helpless and just watches his dance-like moves and legit can't recall a more intimate experience with a Soulsborne boss. it wasn't this way even with Maria.*

13) No, but seriously though.. My initial reaction was a slight annoyance! I ran to Val complaining that I deadass had no idea how the HECK I could survive even a couple of his attacks! I just felt so incompetent after several quick failed attempts, even saying that it seemed like I've reached the point where I have to watch the vids of the bosses I could not beat to know what happens next!
No, Val didn't tell me to git gud, no gfggf He should have though He just gave me a hint that the bleed might help! So I went to change strategy again and reborn with a bigger healthbar and overall different states, took Mohg's spear the old reliable, used talisman of Cleanrots that powered up continuous attacks + Mohg's one that made bleed stronger and went with it. It was really hard, but I had no choice but to adapt
And like... I know that "this battle feels more like a dance once you get into it" is a compliment thrown around very often with Soulsborne bosses, but this boss deserved it the MOST I swear. It is impossible to put into words how I was starting to feel over time, just.. inexplainable beauty in how he was moving for attack, you could tell he was enjoying it :') I didn't feel the same level even with Malenia's battle! The way this battle felt weirdly intimate also absolutely fits the way Frenzied Flame functions; one of the incantations refers it too? And the way his movements and grabs were weirdly calming considering the context felt the same as what was earlier stated about Chaos bringing sense of peace after burning victim's eyes! Just how, HOW they made it so good? They've nonverbally put the same information into this encounter. And the music was absolutely the biggest banger, what the fuck?
14) Okay I can write much more paragraphs trying to grasp what exactly was this feeling and still not be able to overcome my complete lack of verbal communication skills lol gghggh I start to understand why @heraldofcrow at times can't put her feelings into words and uses that gif of sad girl in the rain gfggjhnh
15) Still, the battle was beautiful but HARD! I decided to call @jarognieva to help me and while she needed "just three minutes" to get ready I decided to go and kill time by still trying to defeat Midra anyway, and.....

18) To think of it, Midra as Lord of Frenzy is as much a himself as Malenia is herself when she turns into Goddess of Rot though 🤔 The vibe before and after is different. Both characters are very much on their way to become husks of former selves, or rather, vessels for a different entity that represents an Outer God! (+ funnier how Shabriri and Gowry likewise have identical functions as "bringers" of this godly figure but not becoming it)
.......but that makes it even more captivating 😳

I’m so damn done. Well, not done with the game, but done with life. I know employment is going to be hard and I don’t want to be someone’s housewife. I would have said take me to Mars but I can barely survive when temperatures drop to 16 degrees celsius and if I end up going there and surviving then that means the problems will come back to me. Well, Game dev time. Since the hiatus, I literally did nothing. I did finish Kyu’s base sprites, Father Figure’s base sprites and started on Priyah’s, but I’ll be honest I haven’t done much else because classes were getting tougher and tougher until pretty much I couldn’t do anything else except eat sleep and study. I think they have the least sprites because they have no line boil (I’d like to think the line boil means they’re getting affected by the game breaking down (I’d like to think the father figure is so damn powerful and immortal he literally sleeps through all the crazy shit that happens because that’s basically all what he does in the games except for punting his kid for eating chips loudly or disturbing his sleep)). So, what am I going to do? Continue Priyah’s sprites, then maybe do Orby’s, which probably would take me a bit longer because they would have line boil. Then maybe the diner cast, because Tiny Terson doesn’t deserve his own base sprites. If there is 1 million Tiny Terson haters I am one of them. If there is only 1 Tiny Terson hater that is me. If there are 0 Tiny Person haters then I am dead.  I’ll start with making the game actually playable after all the base sprites are done because right now it’s just a sandbox with nothing to do.

Is it exactly referencing if you’re taking like 2 lines of a song's lyrics? I don’t know but this song has been inadvertently been influencing the way I make jokes lmao deadass whenever I say anything about feeling sad this is how I expect the recipient of my message to read it like.

This song literally was what my early teens was like, like the basic lyrics that get the point across and the "emo" instrumental. Which honestly, it makes sense because this song was written by a 13 year old (which honestly, good for her). I’ll be honest, I really only miss my early teens a little bit because that's when I realized I wanted to be a game dev, but I didn't actually try making games until I was 19, which honestly thank god, because I just know I would make something angsty and cringey at 15. Also I LITERALLY DIDN’T KNOW THIS SONG WAS A JAMSTER RINGTONE?! This Week's News, 3/22 (And SRPG Dev Lore)
Hey. I'm going to try posting regularly on what I'm working on creatively. It's always very satisfying to show my friends, but now I'm wondering if I ought to keep a log of it.
We'll see if this pans out, but here's some stuff in the meantime.
I went to GDC

It was awesome. Those who know me have probably seen the photos of me with Tarn Adams and Derek Yu. It was a seriously great event, much more chill this year than usual. I feel like I met less people, but made stronger connections overall.
If it wasn't 11:30 at night I'd draw a picture of bunny me with Tarn.. I wonder what Tarn Adams' fursona would be. Let me know if you're reading this.
I've really enjoyed getting to know devs in the Bay Area. Since I came home in September it's felt really lonely, but in the last few weeks, it seems like everything changed, and I couldn't be more grateful.
This DOOM level's coming along

This is like a 15-20 minute level. That's a pretty long level. If you look closely, you can see I'm revealing a secret to you when you play it.
I'll be releasing on Doomworld, most likely. It's not my first foray into DOOM either, as I made a 5-level WAD in 2020. As a summer project, it was really my first attempt at doing a somewhat long-term project in games, since it took (to my memory) 2-3 months.
Concept Album is coming along, too

I didn't do much music work this week, but I am still working on my concept album. A lot of it was just talking to people about it at GDC, without revealing too much.
To be honest, I've been listening to a lot of great songwriters lately, and it's making me want to rewrite a lot of the raps on my album.
What is the album about? I can't say. It's very personal and introspective, and kind of about light vs. dark.

I learned so much over the past few weeks, not just from my new pal Nathaniel Jones, but from plenty of other people about Game AI and how to make a strategy RPG.
For context, when I return to this midway through the year (assuming things are still stable enough to just work on games), It'll be my... technically 5th attempt lifetime to make a Strategy RPG engine.
You know, I almost feel like showing you each of the 4 times I tried to make a strategy RPG. Next week's blog isn't gonna be nearly as long, I'm letting myself have that.

So this all started when my Game Systems professor had us play a game called the Battle of Dan-no-Ura. It was an old Japanese electronic board game, and we were assigned to make mods for it. In many ways, it was like a strategy RPG. All units moved on one team's, then another. There were some really cool mechanics related to movement advantage based on turn (water flow) and zone-of-control. Our mods involved a "comeback" system and cards that increased the "drama" by having certain things happen.

But the whole project got me back into Fire Emblem. I played most of the remake of the first game on SNES on our apartment's big-screen TV, while my roommate watched. And to be honest? Aside from a few really tough missions, I felt like it super held up. The simple gameplay, vibrant graphics and strong cast of characters (now considered archetypal and serving as blueprints for many future characters in the series) drew me back into the series in a way I didn't know was possible. I had finished Fire Emblem for the GBA back in 2022, and always enjoyed Advance Wars as well... And spent dozens of hours in Final Fantasy Tactics, which is my favorite game of all time... Maybe I should have seen this coming.

Well, what came next was, my Game Programming Patterns professor wanted us to do some sort of topological grid-based game for a programming patterns final. It didn't even have to be a game- it just needed a few specific criteria like a domain-specific language (DSL) in the code (internal or external), and a few other features like on-the-fly translation. This build doesn't seem to have any of that, but you can see what started to form.

Going into my capstone in the second of the 3 quarters of the school year, I really wanted to try to do an SRPG, but with in-battle gardening mechanics. Here's one of the only prototypes we made, and that it's broken should tell you something about how things were going otherwise.

Started from scratch and achieved the most pedestrian gameplay in a 6-day solo coding marathon. Proud of how fast I worked, but it fell apart fast. This was in like, the last two weeks of that capstone class, which is not when you want to barely be getting something running based off of someone else's tutorial.
I have a lot of thoughts about these first two attempts, but it's getting late and I'll have to go over them someday. But yeah, overscoping and boilerplate and not knowing architecture or doing enough research on architecture, will burn you bad. Also burning out will burn you bad. I burnt out super hard in the middle of my senior year of college.

This was after I got home in September, and is built out of Attempt 2's code. Okay, this also deserves its own like, separate article, because I started trying to do video devlogs during this time, but once again, burnt out hard. Still trying to do Fire Emblem with plants though.
Gave up, burnt out again, released a PICO-8 game on Steam, and now we're in the present.

Yeah, they're from an asset pack- but man, do those characters look spiffy! And behind the scenes, started writing a story i was really excited about. But of course, things went south again.
The new issue I ran into on my latest attempt was trying to polish too much before I got the bread-and-butter (Enemy AI, pathfinding, equipment, etc) working. Also just did the architecture in ways that are really frustrating to debug. This is about when I met Nathaniel Jones from above, who has been absolutely cooking at making the same sort of game, and has been incredibly generous in sharing a dialogue with me, and giving me tips for how to code all these damn systems.

Lately I've been talking with Nathaniel about SRPG dev extensively. Since I'm on break from actually working on an SRPG right now, I've just been figuring out how to ambiently plan to do it next time, which will be technically the 5th attempt. But only once this album is done. So, that's where I'm at.
