Din aceste două evenimente, putem vedea că Petru a avut o înțelegere adevărată a Domnului Isus din lucrarea și cuvintele Sale, că a fost în întregime sigur că Domnul Isus a fost Hristos și calea spre viața veșnică. Aceasta este cea dintâi şi cea mai mare poruncă» (Matei 22:37-38). «Dacă Mă iubeşte cineva, va păzi Cuvântul Meu; şi Tatăl Meu îl va iubi, iar Noi vom veni la el şi vom locui împreună cu el. Cine nu Mă iubeşte nu păzeşte cuvintele Mele» (Ioan 14:23-24). «Nu oricine-Mi zice: ‘Doamne, Doamne!’ va intra în Împărăţia Cerurilor, ci doar acela care face voia Tatălui Meu, Care este în ceruri» (Matei 7:21). Din cuvintele Domnului, a fost clar că speranța Lui este ca noi toți să putem să-L iubim cu toată inima și mintea noastră, să practicăm potrivit cuvintelor Sale și să susținem calea Domnului. Acestea sunt cerințele Lui pentru noi și ele sunt standardul pentru a-I câștiga lauda și a intra în Împărăția cerurilor. Căutarea lui Petru era bazată pe aceste cuvinte de la Domnul; el a stabilit scopul de a-L iubi pe Dumnezeu și a căutat să devină o persoană care Îl iubește pe Dumnezeu. Când Domnul Isus a fost arestat în Grădina Ghetsimani, Petru s-a repezit să-L protejeze, tăind urechea slujitorului marelui preot. Petru a fost un om care L-a iubit pe Domnul și a făcut voia Tatălui ceresc, iar căutarea lui a obținut aprobarea lui Dumnezeu. Acesta este motivul pentru care Domnul Isus i-a dat lui Petru cheile Împărăției cerurilor. După ce am auzit ceea ce a avut de spus colegul meu, am ajuns la o conștientizare bruscă: „Uau, deci Petru a fost cu adevărat cineva care L-a iubit și L-a ascultat de Domnul! Nu este de mirare că Domnul Isus i-a dat cheile Împărăției cerurilor. Comparându-mă cu experiențele lui Petru, în credința mea și în ceea ce am cheltuit pentru Domnul, m-am gândit doar la faptul cum pot intra în Împărăția cerurilor și să fiu răsplătită. Nu m-am gândit cum să pun în practică cuvintele Domnului sau să-i îndeplinesc cerințele. În lucrarea mea, nu m-am gândit cum să comunic voia Domnului cu frații și surorile, iar, în cursul predicării Evangheliei, atunci când întâmpin dificultăți și nu am putut să-mi sprijin frații și surorile, devin negativă și slabă, pierzând încrederea în Domnul. Doar acum, comparându-mă cu Petru, am văzut că nu sunt de fapt cineva care Îl iubește pe Domnul! Mărturia lui Petru este cu adevărat ceva ce ar trebui să imităm, deci cum a căutat, în general, Petru să-L cunoască și să-L iubească pe Domnul?”

Cum a căutat Petru să-L cunoască și să-L iubească pe Domnul

Auzindu-mă spunând acest lucru, colegul meu și-a scos încântat tableta și mi-a spus: „Am citit câteva pasaje pe un website evanghelic despre cum Petru a căutat să-L cunoască și să-L iubească pe Domnul. Este explicat destul de limpede. Haide să citim împreună: «Petru L-a urmat pe Isus un număr de ani și a văzut la Isus multe lucruri pe care oamenii nu le au. […] Fiecare mișcare a lui Isus îi era ca un exemplu în viață, iar predicile lui Isus erau, în mod deosebit, gravate în inima lui. Era foarte atent cu Isus și foarte dedicat Lui și nu s-a plâns niciodată de Isus. Iată de ce a devenit tovarășul credincios al lui Isus, oriunde mergea El. Petru a observat învățăturile lui Isus, cuvintele Lui blânde și ceea ce mânca și îmbrăca, viața Lui cotidiană și călătoriile Lui. A urmat exemplul lui Isus în toate privințele. El nu a fost neprihănit de sine, ci s-a lepădat de toate lucrurile sale anterioare depășite și a urmat exemplul lui Isus cu vorba și cu fapta. Atunci a fost când a simțit că cerurile și pământul și toate lucrurile erau în mâinile Celui Atotputernic și, pentru acest motiv, el nu a avut propria sa opțiune, ci a hotărât că Isus avea să acționeze ca exemplu al său în toate» («Despre viața lui Petru»).

«După o perioadă de experiență, Petru a văzut în Isus multe dintre faptele lui Dumnezeu, a văzut frumusețea lui Dumnezeu și a văzut mult din ființa lui Dumnezeu în Isus. Așa a văzut el și că vorbele rostite de Isus nu puteau să fi fost rostite de om și că lucrarea pe care a făcut-o Isus nu putea să fi fost făcută de om. Mai mult, în cuvintele și acțiunile lui Isus, Petru a văzut mult din înțelepciunea lui Dumnezeu și multă lucrare de o natură divină. În timpul experiențelor sale, el nu numai că a ajuns să se cunoască pe sine, dar a și observat cu atenție toate acțiunile lui Isus, din care a descoperit multe lucruri noi; anume, că erau multe expresii ale lui Dumnezeu cel concret în lucrarea pe care Dumnezeu o făcea prin Isus, și că Isus Se deosebea de un om obișnuit prin cuvintele pe care le rostea și prin faptele pe care le făcea, precum și prin modul în care păstorea El Bisericile și lucrarea pe care o făcea El. Astfel, el a învățat de la Isus multe lecții pe care trebuia să le învețe și, până în momentul în care Isus a fost pe punctul de a fi pironit pe cruce, el dobândise ceva cunoaștere despre Isus – o cunoaștere care a devenit baza loialității lui de-o viață față de Isus, precum și a răstignirii sale cu capul în jos pentru Isus»” („Numai cei care-L cunosc pe Dumnezeu pot să fie martori pentru El”).

Auzind aceasta, i-am spus colegului meu: „Ah, deci pe parcursul urmării Domnului Isus, Petru a continuat să observe faptele și comportamentul Domnului, iar din cuvintele și acțiunile Lui a ajuns să-L cunoască.”

Colegul meu a spus: „Așa este. Putem vedea din aceste două pasaje că Petru a tânjit să-L cunoască pe Domnul și, atunci când a interacționat cu Domnul Isus, a primit fiecare lucru mărunt pe care l-a spus și l-a făcut Isus. În El, Petru a văzut multă divinitate. De exemplu, cuvintele rostite de Domnul Isus au fost adevărul; erau pline de putere și autoritate și puteau oferi sprijin pentru nevoile spirituale ale oamenilor. Minunile și lucrurile extraordinare pe care le-a făcut Domnul Isus au dezvăluit autoritatea și atotputernicia lui Dumnezeu și au fost lucruri pe care nu le putea face niciun om. Domnul Isus i-a mântuit cu milă pe păcătoși, le-a iertat toate păcatele și a dăruit binecuvântări bogate asupra omenirii – El a fost plin de milă și dragoste pentru ființele umane. De asemenea, Petru a văzut din dojana și condamnarea fariseilor cu cele șapte nenorociri de la Domnul Isus faptul că El era sfânt și drept și nu va tolera ofensă din partea omului. În timp ce săvârșea lucrări, indiferent de cum a suferit trupul Lui sau cât de grea a fost lucrarea Lui, chiar dacă a însemnat să-Și sacrifice propria viață, Domnul Isus a fost hotărât să realizeze pe deplin însărcinarea lui Dumnezeu. Petru a văzut că esența lui Hristos era ascultarea față de voia lui Dumnezeu Tatăl. Petru a văzut multă divinitate în Isus și a câștigat o înțelegere autentică și concretă a lui Dumnezeu. În plus, Petru a păstrat cuvintele Domnului Isus în inima lui, gândindu-se în mod frecvent la ele și căutând să înțeleagă din ele voia Domnului, astfel încât să poată îndeplini cerințele lui Dumnezeu față de omenire. Cândva, Isus l-a întrebat de trei ori: «Simon, fiul lui Ioan, Mă iubeşti?» (Ioan 21:16). Am simțit cu adevărat un sentiment de claritate după ce am auzit părtășia colegului meu. Am simțit în inima mea că Dumnezeu examinează cu adevărat inimile și mințile oamenilor. Nu a fost fără motiv faptul că Domnul Isus l-a lăudat pe Petru și i-a dat cheile Împărăției cerurilor. Eu, pe de altă parte, mă uitasem doar la una dintre purtările lui Petru. În plus, la vremea aceea, Petru doar Îl urmase pe Domnul timp de trei ani, deci credința lui nu era încă atât de mare. Îmi doresc să pot îndeplini cuvintele Domnului în viața mea, să fiu dedicată în lucrarea și slujirea mea către Domnul și în toate lucrurile să caut să-L cunosc și să-L iubesc pe Domnul și să-I împlinesc voia. Numai în acest fel pot obține aprobarea lui Dumnezeu și pot avea șansa de a intra în Împărăția cerurilor.

După ce am înțeles toate acestea, i-am spus colegului meu: „Datorită călăuzirii Domnului și discuției noastre de astăzi, înțeleg acum de ce Domnul Isus i-a dat lui Petru cheile Împărăției cerurilor. Există cu adevărat o taină în acest lucru! Acum știu cum să caut. Aduc mulțumire călăuzirii de la Domnul. Amin!”

A list of queer romance publisher alternatives to Riptide

I have been feeling really bummed and saddened over the news about Riptide, which has been my go-to fave queer small press ever since it was founded. I have spent years talking it up all over the place, and part of my frustration now is that I haven’t done more to either give a push to other queer romance publishers or actively support and familiarize myself with other queer romance publishers. 

So I wanted to make this list, partly as a resource for anyone, be they author or reader, who is wondering what alternatives there are — and partly to reassure myself that other places (besides just Dreamspinner and LT3) are out there.

I wish this list were longer, and especially more diverse (and not just a sea of white dudes in M/M fiction). These are listed here, basically in descending order of how closely I think they adhere to or represent a transformative-fandom fannish sensibility regarding queer fiction and queer representation. Obviously opinions are my own, no one else’s, etc.

Manifold Press - queer romance small press focusing on plot instead of erotica, with a mix of modern romance (both F/F and M/M) as well as historicals. Yay Regency lesbians!! (Status: Closed to submissions.)

Ai Press (as in shounen ai a.k.a. yaoi) - https://ai-press.net/ - This is a mainly M/M-focused romance publisher with a section for yaoi-inspired M/M novels. (Status: Closed to submissions.)

Bella Books - https://www.bellabooks.com/ / @bellabooks​ - this is a small press for exclusively F/F romance, but they also partner with lots of other small-press F/F publishers, which is cool. (Status: Open to submissions.)

Wilde City - https://www.wildecity.com/ - this is an exclusively M/M publisher that divides itself between gay erotica, gay romance, and gay mainstream. (Status: Closed to submissions.)

Desert Palm Press - http://www.desertpalmpress.com/contact-us.html - tiny press for exclusively contemporary F/F romance. (Status: Open to submissions.)

Loose Id — this is a multi-genre romance publisher with an equal mix of het and M/M romance with a side of LGBTQ spectrum content. (Status: Closed to submissions.)

Sapphire Books - publishes a wide range of lesbian fiction including romance and erotica. (Status: Open to submissions.)

Ylva - https://www.ylva-publishing.com/ / @ylvapublishing​ - this is an exclusively F/F romance press with a broad multi-genre selection. (Status: Open to submissions.)

Decadent Publishing is a romance publisher mainly focusing on paranormal / shapeshifter romance, but they do a lot of other romance subgenres as well, and offer MM and F/F alongside het. (Status: Open to submissions.)

Everything from here on down is pretty much mainly commercial erotica / erotic romance:

Rocky Ridge — this is a small queer romance publisher focusing apparently exclusively on M/M titles — also they have English-language yaoi (BL) manga. (Status: Closed to submissions.)

Cleis - http://cleispress.com/ @cleispress publishes queer non-fiction and fiction emphasizing gay and lesbian erotica

Thurston Howl - https://www.thurstonhowlpublications.com/ / @thurstonhowlpub - okay so it’s a furry press that is self-avowed progressive queer feminist. obviously YMMV but that’s pretty cool!

Red Ferret Press - This is the erotica offshoot of Weasel Press, which emphasizes queer genre fiction that’s diverse, literary, and transgressive

Changeling Press - this is a hodgepodge of geeky speculative erotica with a category for “slash fiction” i.e. M/M romance

Bold Strokes Books - https://www.boldstrokesbooks.com - this is a queer publisher with a wide range of commercial queer fiction and erotica including romance and YA

Love Lit Press which is maybe called Beau to Beau, or maybe the latter is an imprint of the former? IDK, anyway, it’s mostly a vanity press for two authors, one het and one queer, but on the side there’s lots of M/M erotica / erotic romance, ranging from historical to contemporary.

Affinity Rainbow - queer romance press focusing on F/F fiction

Cool Dudes Publishing - of course this is M/M romance

MLR Press. This stands for Man Love Romance and is M/M erotica.

Cobblestone Press - This is an erotic romance press with a side of almost exclusively M/M fiction.

Pride Publishing - queer romance mainly focused on M/M erotica with a side of F/F and spectrum content.

Extasy Books is a queer erotica press with a separate imprint, Devine Destinies, for non-erotic adult and YA fiction. 

Riverdale Avenue - romance press with an even mix of het & queer erotic romance

Phaze and Mundania Press - two weird imprints of a mysterious LLC with no web presence that each seem to be your average commercial erotica press with a side of M/M and F/F categories

Sizzler Editions - erotica with categories for M/M, F/F, trans, etc. But in case “gay male” wasn’t enough, they also have an additional section for “MAN LOVE.”

Excessica mainly publishes het erotica with a side of gay and lesbian erotica.

Carina Press is an imprint of Harlequin; it’s your standard commercial erotica with categories for M/M and F/F. (Status: Open to submissions.)

Etopia - This is a romance publisher focusing on erotic romance with a range of genres — some het but mostly M/M. (Note: They have a legally inaccurate, somewhat misleading anti-fanfic clause in their submissions guidelines. Also, they are open to submissions.)

There’s also the Kraken Collective / @krakencollective​ which is a closed group of queer sci-fi and speculative fiction authors that works to promote the group’s work as a whole.

I’m pretty sure I’m probably missing out on even more, so if any of you know other active queer-inclusive small presses that I missed, let me know and I’ll update the list!

Also, I feel I should give a shout-out to the traditional publishing imprints that have been taking dives into publishing (mostly M/M) romance — in particular, Berkley and Avon. You can find writers like Cat Sebastian and K.J. Charles and C.S. Pacat among their ilk, and say what you will about the mainstreaming of the subculture, I think it’s mostly been a good thing.
