really appreciate how some of the stylistic elements in DGHDA were entirely unnecessary and you can just tell how much passion went into making things. That shot of Dirk with the telephone wire? 100% that shot was made just because someone thought it would look cool. The shot where all the lightbulbs turn on? Where Dirk simply walks around with the lightbulb in his hand and expresses his excitement with a smile? The futuristic armor??? The slicing of Mr. Priest’s face??????

I think dghda S3 should've done the thing where they start with a funeral or a wedding or smth and they don't tell you whose funeral and you see everyone looking really sad and then the coffin pops open or the veil comes off and it's Dirk saying "Solved it!" And then the theme song plays.

what would have been really interesting for a dghda s3 plot would be to have riggins come back to maybe help dirk, or is part of the case and is connected enough that they kind of have to deal with eachother again

i love all the blackwing plots, all the government bad guys like freidkin priest etc., they all gave a more extreme idea of blackwing (and i think that was important to really unveil how traumatic blackwing was when the projects were kids) but after season 1 riggins was never seen again!

but I think what would make blackwing worse would be this old sweet looking man that seems caring, and seems like you can trust him. it has a unique effect psychologically of growing up in this overtly violent and dangerous place, and even the one part you feel safe around is secretly the man in charge of it all.

like in S1E3 when the two meet again, there's already so much emotion in it that you can tell sooooo much shit went down that even in s2 was not explored enough.

like, its one thing to grow up terrified of priest and everything, but I bet you dirk was so trusting of riggins in the past, until some big thing happened that completely flipped that feeling of safety

ALSOOOOo adding a reunion in s3 would make for such emotional, well-done scenes from Samuel Barnett. like mentioning S1E3 again, its onnly the third episode of the entire series, we know nothing about dirk at this time yet Sam's subtle emotions are so compelling. I would give my left leg to have a scene where after so much emotion from having to deal with riggins again builds up and one day dirk just snaps and it gets like heated. idk i think dirks anger really needs more of a spotlight sometimes

im realizing now that ~~maybe i just have daddy issues and something about dirk finally airing his grievances at essentially his father figure would make me so happy~~ but i wish people talked more about riggins! he and dirk have such a dynamic relationship that would be so well done on screen omfg

Okay but I want mooooooree of Makkari and Kingo's friendship. I'm talking about them watching all of Kingo's movies and Makkari being so hyped and Sprite joining in just to roast Kingo's ass. Or Kingo teaching Makkari what an iPad and a Kindle is.

And more of the girls friendship too. Like, yeah Thena kicks ass but she will never skip Self Care Saturday Night™ with the girls.

yet another post in my critically unacclaimed "parallels between dghda and mp100" series, this time on the topic: claw security guard guy & lieutenant assistent are literally the same breed of guy

a very minor background character with maybe 10 minutes of screentime total

in fact, *so* minor that he doesn't even have a name (i don’t know if "yoshioka mamoru" is a surprisingly consistent headcanon that everyone agreed upon, or some fanbook tidbit, or what, but the wiki has only one sentence about him and refers to him as "nameless guard", so *shrugs*. as for lt. assistent, he was only named "michael" in the scripts, but that detail never made its way to production; so, if we only look towards the hard canon of the 18 total episodes of the show, the guy doesn't even have a canonical first name)

the same kind of unassuming design: little guy, black hair short black hair, dark official worksuit

the same role in the plot! a member of an evil organization that threatens protagonists, but on a very low, "grunt" level (security guard for an esper terrorist organization / lieutenant at a CIA human experimentation project), whose involvement in the plot plays a small, but instrumental role in the overthrowing of said organization (allows dimple to kick ass / leads dirk to francis' room)

doesn't have any canon personality to speak of, but is commonly headcanoned to be timid/shy/anxious

only has a tiny handful of fans, but nearly each of them is sososo obsessed with the guy it makes up for small numbers

main source of fandom popularity is the ship with the series' most eligible gay bachelor (yoshioka with reigen, mike with dirk)

the popularity of said ship is at least partially due to creators' endorcement (bones kept including dimple!yoshioka in promotional art / l*ndis' instagram post about assistent/dirk romance plans for s3)

the smaller, but Very dedicated subset of the guy's fans is there a little bit less for the shipping and more for holding him in their hands and going "he's SO fucking eepy......."; they produce most of the headcanons

The scenario in my head was that Dirk calls Thor in for a favour, and Thor turns up as this giant terrifying bearded Viking dude with about 5 different weapons on him, and Dirk has to break the news to him that he just needs him to work reception at the agency

General information (DGS3 Project)

Hello everyone, thank you for being interested in the project! Here’s what you need to know:

Basic idea: The basic idea is to write season three of Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency in script form in a way so that it could potentially be produced as a radio show, just like in the good old Douglas Adams time. (Reason: Ideate Media already seemed interested in a Dirk radio show and a possible production would be less expensive. Plus: A radio show script is a bit closer to an actual book, thus more enjoyable to read for others and easier to write.

Genre: Since we already had a “murder mystery” and a fantasy season I’d like to go into thesci-fi direction for season three.

I plan on working with what we already know about season three (hyperintelligent lethal children kidnapping an alien, the broken universe with Amanda having to fix it, Dirk x Assistent romance, Farah joining Blackwing, Bart/Ken(/Priest) ‘villain’ team, Mexican Funeral reunion, Friedkin’s new job in the void, Dirk’s little agency and also include the already mentioned holistics Marjory Teeple, Kevin Nothiere and Roose Fryburn.

How do I plan on doing this whole thing? 1. We hope that enough people want to join in as writers. Best case scenario: 8-12 people. 2. Depending on how many people we are in the end, we agree on how many episodes we want. 3. We all brainstorm together to come up with a case, the most important plot points 4. Characterizations for the new characters (Roose Fryburn, Kevin Nothiere, Marjory Teeple and others) 5. Separate stories (including a character development arc) which work with the case for our main characters 6. We fit the most important plot points for the season into the episodes to get a rough structure for the story, then add details. 7. Beginning with the first half of the season, the writers form teams (2-3 people) and each team will work on a episode. 8. After that’s done we repeat the same process with the second half of the season. 9. Possible rewriting and proof reading 10. Celebrate

Deadlines: I was thinking of not strictly putting up deadlines but agree to try and get this whole thing finished over the span of a year plus maybe one or two months. For example: Plotting and outlining the whole thing: 3 months. Writing the first half: 3 months. Writing the second half: 3 months. Rewriting and proof reading: 3 months.

How we communicate with each other: I made a discord server and will send everyone who’s an active part of the project the link to it. Optionally, in case everyone’s okay with it, we could also open up a WhatsApp chat.

And since I started this whole thing I’d do my best to play the role of the supervisor and keep everything going and flowing.

Big bad universe destroying Amanda thoughts

So, everything I've seen relating to this concept had been that 'universe destroying' is one whole phrase that is used as a descriptor and I'm wondering if maybe that isn't what max meant? When I first saw it I thought it meant that the big bad universe would destroy Amanda, so like.. the opposite of what everyone's interpreting it as, and that's a concept that terrifies me just as much.

Like just imagine how that would go- everyone agrees that destroying the universe seems really ooc for Amanda, who is wonderful and set up to be a literal saviour of the world so instead picture this:

-amanda brotzmann sets out to find more dirks and barts and rowdies. She's made peace with her visions but they still hurt and they're confusing and each time they get a little shorter and more cryptic but she's so dedicated that she puts herself in increasingly dangerous situations just to find out more (we already saw this happen with the train when she was looking for the boys)

- she won't give up. Of course she won't give up. She's a freakin' witchikookoo and she's got the universe behind her, right?

-wrong

-the universe doesn't give a shit about her as an individual. The universe is barely even sentient, it just needs to be fixed so it pushes and pushes and pushes and Amanda gives it everything

-everyone can see that she's getting in too deep, and anyone who tries to tell her so gets shut down or pushed away because this is her fight, remember? She was made for this

- and so she gathers the tools, ignores the danger, ignores her injuries because she's not the body she's the consciousness and who cares if she gets shot so long as she can do her job?

-one day she pushes too hard and that's it. Poof. No more Amanda. She's dead OR she becomes nothing but a vessel for the universe. She's lost everything that makes her who she is, she just follows orders OR everything is fixed. The universe doesn't need her anymore. And where does that leave her? See, this is the first time she's had real purpose, and just like that it's taken away from her and she's a wreck
