They made him as a little art project sketch wanted to do and Lesley decided she wanted to fuck with them so she gave him conscience. Now they're stuck with a kid, kind of like the situation of those fanchild comics

Yay!!! Happy Disability pride month gang! Have some head canons! (Some of these only really apply to the human versions I have of them so I’ll clarify when it does apply to them as objects aswell)

I’m mostly doing main characters like the teachers and the main three in this post but I’ll probably make one for side characters if anyone wants that :3

~It embarrasses him when you compliment his smile, but he certainly does appreciate it. Hearing his cute little "Huh- Wh..Me? Oh, uh, thanks..." is quite worth it.

~Red sounds awkward and perhaps even a bit uncomfortable about it, but that's just how he sounds LOL. He's genuinely accepting the compliment, despite how his tone may be.

~His lack of lips doesn't stop him from kissing you every now and then. I hope you don't mind teeth and tongue ;)

~Now he might let you move his yarn so you can kiss him.

~He doesn't always want that, though, he likes to have a lack of expression, so people can't tell what he's thinking. It's good for....scarier situations.

~Red feels quite a lot more comfortable showing his teeth around you. He doesn't understand why you like them, but he's happy. He chuckles now when you smile at him brightly, because he knows it's because you're happy that you can see him smiling back at you.

Headcanon for Dhmis main trio realtionship with each other:

Watching the new Tv show we can tell that they all know how to get on each other nerves, they fight, they argue/insult each other but they also show they care about each other too.

They hate each other so much. They live with each other constantly, they get no breaks from the other. They get no time for themselves cause they're constantly around each other. They sleep in the same room, they're always in the same room, they're constantly dragged through lessons about how things work. Never getting a break. It's a cycle they've gotten used to. It's stresses them out so they argue and insult each other.

But the truth is they can't live without each other. They've spent so long in this entirety with each other they don't know how to function without the other. When duck 'dies' red guy and yellow can't stand being without him despite him being mean/hurting them on occasion. Red guy and duck help bring back yellow after he gets stuck in his own mind despite insulting him/causing the issue, red guy even tries defending him afterwards before the fight broke out. When red tries to be apart of his 'real family ' it doesn't work out and he end up back with the others in the end.

So they all put up with each other nonsense, cause they can't fucking live without the other and they know it. Their entire lives function around living together, they make it work cause they have too. Cause they know they can rely on each other, cause them being a trio is all they know.

That's why red guy tries to bring them away from the house together. Even after yellow and duck clearly state they don't want to go. Red knows he can't live without them in his life. He wants space from them but he still wants them to be in his life...

Duck trying to get yellow and red from the office to go home. To go back to their home together. He does it again in family ep as well, to go home together...

Yellow tries to tell them about the book and the important information cause he knows they're important to him so they should know the info too...

And they slowly learn to accept this fucked up family friendship companionship through out the series cause at the end of the day...

They can't live without each other

It'll always be the three of them no matter what happens

I have a personal headcanon that ducks organs grow back, and they work like the grinches heart. so whenever hes nice he’ll earn back his spleen privileges. this can be interpreted as Lesley trying to make him nicer, or it can be a random thing. either way it has fluff potential.

like imagine a mushy scene like the fridge one but every few seconds it cuts to an animated close up of ducks organs. it starts with nothing, an empty chest and stomach, but slowly his organs grow back throughout the scene. by the end hes got a full pumping heart and a nice set of intestines as a bonus treat. it would look visually gross but the idea of it is sweet and i think that captures the dhmis vibe

i hope to write a fic about this sometime but im not the best at getting around to things :bb

Im just a big fan of the fact that the fandom interpretation with the og series used to be that red and duck were functional adults that would parent yellow in a responsible way

And now theyre just two very NOT functional adults that will probably forget they're taking care of yellow and 100% suck ass at being parents but they both like to be called dad and THINK they're good father figures... they enjoy the parent title, theyre just not ready for the responsibility that comes with it

their relationship isn't functional and their babysitting/parenting isn't either but they're TRYING okay

No one in that house is okay but they love each other... in a weird way

DHMIS - The Yap EPIC - Red Guy

Red is so fascinating to me. He's like a tragic oddity no matter where he travels. He is monotoned and hidden despite being the largest and arguably most brightly colored one there.

I AM IN LOVE with the unable to fit in anxiety and fear thing he has as well, He's too weird for his people. too Normal for the weird freaks.

i think red truly is bonded to the other two. He cares for them and wants them to be safe and far from danger. But here's the thing, I like to think red himself thinks he is a danger to them. He wants to be there to help and comfort them but at the same time, he thinks he's not good enough, that he'll just end up hurting them in some way. Like despite the brain fog a lil voice in his head tell him over and over again he hurt them. either in a "You lead them too their doom" or a "You gave them hope when it was never possible" even "You left to help, but you just made things worse"

think he feels guilty, and blames himself for everything even though he doesn't know why. he might just be doing it out of self hatred or he might have helped Roy or was blind to things in the past he never realized or fully remembers.

That guilt makes him distant. He loves them but he wont show it out of fear for them. I think in transport this is shown perfectly.

he wants them to be in a safe town. he wants them to have friends and neighbor's. he wants them far away from that house and happier and healthier. But he clearly mentions he wont be staying with them. that he will live separately from them. And reassures yellow that it will be ok and better, i don't think he said that because he dislikes them (yeah he gets annoyed sometimes but that's normal) I think he said that because he feels he needs to be separate so they can fully live normal happy lives. and when everything starts to fall apart, he panics. he is swallowed by anxiety. that ticking time bomb finally exploded. he yells out of fear and that fear turns into anger. The keys were dangled in front of him and they were taken away.

During the campsite scene red rocks himself and hides his face a little bit, covering his mouth after telling yellow its going to be ok. He failed again, he hurt them again.

The energy i get from red is someone who cares. and tries. but he keeps failing, it keeps hurting them and that hurts him, only making him more distant.

That is interesting as well, red is truly unpredictable. that urge to help and escape can make red go crazy but it could also truly help. if he were to open up more he could clear his mind just a little bit and connect with his lil found family. But he could also break more, He could accept this world or his "role" If he's Only going to be a monster that only hurts his friends he might as well do it on purpose. get it over with. (what I'm saying is red could easily get better and bond more AND easily have a corruption arch leading him to become a darker force)- (Both possible! and honestly super interesting topics to dive into) like he has main character energy, but he is pushed by the world itself to sit down and mumble along the songs.

in short i see red as a tragic overthinking anxious mess. on the verge of breaking. and that break could help him connect or truly shatter him. (Good Cry Vs "What's even the Point")

He made himself a cage and locked himself inside it.

too bad for him there are two goobers who are determined to get inside and let him out for a walk. no matter what he thinks.

-Relationship views-

Yellow: That's his little guy, the fellow who makes him smile even though every day is a dreaded one. Red overthinks to himself, But yellow doesn't give a damn he just wants to eat breakfast and watch Tv with his Semi Dad #2! and that makes red feel better, just to hang out and be included in whatever yellas doing, and i think red tries to teach him actually good things, like cooking and cleaning. (Lil cute headcannon!! I have a small head cannon that red doesn't like Grolton and Horvis. he doesn't hate it. its just he wouldn't ever choose to watch it personally, But its yellows favorite show and it makes his mornings whenever its on, so he sits and watches it with him.)

Duck: Hes SMITTEN FR FR. I think red does Love duck. But i also think red is practically chained inside the closet. I wouldn't be surprised if his stringy puppet family or species as a whole isn't exactly supportive of anything that's not "Normal or the same" And with how duck tends to dance around some topics and how he seems to be aggressive toward anything that changes his personal life. i think red just decided that staying in the dark - so to speak- is better than potentially losing his family again. But then the fridge scene happened, Red spoke about his feelings and duck was soft and even recuperated to a degree. If we get another season i can see their relationship become more interesting.

Roy: I dont think red remembers roy, the fog and day loop stuff makes the past more so hard to remember. However i do think they were business partners or at least acquaintances, the guy you hang and drink with every two weeks and talk about your lives. HOWEVER Uh. that changed didn't it? I said this in a random post once before. but i think that if red were to see Roy again, it be one of the few times red truly gets aggressive. (I mean even in the friendship ending he sounds more like he's venting than actually throwing hands.) That he wouldn't remember Roy or what he even did, but he'd remember the feelings, the horrible Fear and Hatred mixture. Like "I don't Know you, But i know you Have to go. my Everything is screaming at me to tear you apart. i need you OUT." Plus i think its awesome when a normally quiet character gets aggressive, its awesome and scary! i can see red tearing though the walls, chasing Roy relentlessly, no matter how many times the houses foundation starts to fall on him, or how many times he gets scratched by rusted nails, he just doesn't stop. (I think it would be super neat)

Lesley: I don't think red even knows Lesley exists. Roy might have mentioned her in the past, but i don't think reds ever even seen her. But if they were to meet i think they'd be chill with each other, drinking tea and talking about those scamps downstairs, but there would be a time limit. Because its just a matter of time before Red slips and mentions how badly he wants to move them away, or Lesley slips and Implies how she's Lowkey In control of everything. and the two of them remember that their protective enemies.

Lesley is… FASCINATING. It’s really hard to choose a favorite character in the series, but she’s up there with charged yellow for me. 

~~~~~DHMIS SPOILERS AHEAD (Obviously) ~~~~~

As for headcannons, I definitely subscribe to the idea that she, Roy, and yellow are a family of sorts. Roy is most obviously yellow’s dad (based on yellow’s direct lines about him). As for Lesley being yellow’s mom… that ties into a more general (and probably not original) theory I have about the nature of the show. 

I like to imagine that the show represents a purgatory of sorts. More specifically, that the main cast (not including teachers) represent people who have died and are forced to keep living the same day over and over again (June 19th or 20th; maybe when they died?). We get the most overt hints about this for yellow and Lesley in episodes 5 and 6 of the TV series. 

In episode 5: Transport, we get these scenes - giving us a plausible reason for yellow’s death (car accident) and a perpetrator (LE5L3Y). Given that we can hear Lesley’s VA scream “CAREFUL!”, well... you get the drift. Then, of course, there’s the iconic line: “YOU’RE NOT MY REAL SON!” from episode 6. 

How Lesley may have died is a little murkier, but given that she’s confirmed to be a puppet as well (and has those stitches/ scars), I imagine that she died in the  car crash above or shortly afterwards.

You can find a number of theory videos about this, but based on the D on yellow’s jumper, and the appearances of the name “David” in the series (most prominently on the gravestone), I believe David was yellow’s name when he was alive. However, in my posts, I’ll stick to referring to the yellows as “yellow” and “Charged Yellow” (or “Smart Yellow) both to distinguish them from the human David, and avoid assigning non-canon names until we learn more! :) 

I would have stopped there, but there’s also evidence to support the idea that Duck was perhaps an old man who died, due to his association with the symbols shown in episode 4 of the first series: 

“An old man died” “-but look a computer!” 

I’ve honestly got no clue about red, but I like to imagine that he’s around duck’s age for… reasons. I also don’t think he’s related to yellow’s family given his search for his own family, and his depiction as a neighbor in the clayhill daydream from episode 5.
