I'm talking like the house is fucking huge bigger then any of the brothers mansions, the general style of it would be modern wit a mix of Victorian mansion. The outside is more modern looking then the inside of it, her house was fairly empty n most of it was made of silver or concrete }

Translator’s note: Similar to the Reiji & Subaru scenarios which I uploaded last week, these tracks are fairly short but sweet. I found it rather ironic how Azusa’s scenario features him buying band-aids and new shoes for the MC after her current pair gives her blisters because I’m pretty sure there’s a scenario in his MB route where he forces Yui to wear tiny shoes because he wants to see her in pain lol. I suppose that’s what you’d call ‘character growth’? :p

RUKI’S SIDE: NURSING

*Knock knock*

You enter Ruki’s room.

“You’re finally here. We have to leave any second now. How strange for you to be tardy when you were the one who invited me along. I was just about to come to your room to call you. ...Hm? Your cheeks are flushed. Do you have a fever, perhaps?”

You insist that you’re fine. 

“No fever, huh? Then let me rephrase my question. ...What exactly were you doing in your room, staying there up until the very last second?”

You avert your gaze. 

“What’s wrong? You can’t give an answer?”

You remain quiet.

“I suppose that also answers my question. ...Come here.”

You shake your head. 

“Why are you acting so stubborn? ...Haah...If you won’t come to me, I’ll go to you instead.”

*Rustle* 

“Come on, look at me. I need to take your  temperature andーー”

You nearly fall but Ruki catches you in time.

*Rustle*

“What are you doing!? Watch out. If you’re this shaky on your legs then...”

He presses his hand against your forehead.

“Hmー Just as I thought. You’re running a rather high fever. It’d be reckless to try and head out in your current condition.“

You protest.

“You can protest all you want, but the answer is no. We aren’t going out today. You head back to your room and rest.“

You shake your head.

“Why are you so insistent on it? Ahー Now that you mention it, the Christmas lights you wanted to see so badly will be taken down after today, won’t they? ...Is that why you’re so stubborn?“

You explain. 

“Limited edition phone straps? Apparently it’ll bring happiness to couples who ue them? ...Do you actually believe that? Haah...Just think rationally for a second. What if you force yourself to head out and collapse like you nearly did just now? I doubt you will be able to enjoy the event in your current state either, so just give up on it.“

You frown. 

“...So you finally understand. I’ll escort you back to your room. There’s no way to guarantee you will actually make it back there safely after all.“

*TIMESKIP*

*Rustle rustle*

“...Ah. You’re awake?“

You ask Ruki how much time has passed.

“Hm? Two hours, I suppose?“

You don’t seem to remember much of when you got to your room.

“Yes. By the time we made it to your room, your consciousness was already fading. You were gripping onto my shirt and I could barely hold a conversation with you. Your fever seemed to be quite high, so I stayed here to keep an eye on you.“

You apologize. 

“No need to apologize. I’ve been reading that book over there while you were asleep. I do not blame you for falling ill. Nor do I mind that we aren’t able to go on our outing as a result. We can always go out another day. ...How do you feel? If you still feel illーー“

You tell him it has gotten a lot better.

“I see. Your complexion looks a lot better too. ...It’s almost time for dinner. If you have an appetite, it’d be best to try and eat something.“

*Cling*

“I made a risotto beforehand but...Do you think you’ll be able to keep it down?“

You nod.

“Mmh, I see. Haah...“

Ruki brings the spoon to your mouth.

*Cling* 

“Huh...? What’s wrong? Open your mouth. ...I am willing to feed you. It’s not that embarrassing, is it? So shut up and open up.“

You protest.

“‘But’...? What? Tell me what you think.“

You give up.

“...So you finally gave up. You should have just done so from the very beginning. Now open your mouth.“

*Rustle* 

“No need to rush. ...Hah. I see. I guess you are embarrassed after all. However, keep still for a second, okay?“

He leans in close. 

“...You had some stuck on the corner of your mouth. Heh. That’s what you get for scarfing down your food. Take that as a lesson to slow down a bit. Once you’re fully recovered, we can try again to go to today’s event.“

You tilt your head to the side.

“A different place? Oh no. Did I not say we would plan a repeat of today? ...You should always keep up with the latest news. Apparently the duration of the Christmas lights you wanted to see today has been extended by two weeks.“

You seem very pleased with the news. 

“Heh...So hurry up and get back, okay? You made a big fuss even while running a fever, so I can imagine just how badly you want to go. I promise that next time, we’ll make it there for sure.”

AZUSA’S SIDE: HAPPINESS FOUND IN AN UNKNOWN CITY

The two of you are walking in town.

“Eve...We’ve been walking for over an hour now but...This popular restaurant specializing in spicy dishes you spoke of...is nowhere to be found...huh?“

You start to panic.

“No need to rush...We’ve never been to this city before after all...I was really happy...when you invited me along today...So I don’t mind that we got lost...“

You nod.

“Hey. Can you hand me the map for a second?“

“Thank you...Let me see...Right now we’re...“

*Rustle* 

“...around here, so... Mmh. It’s probably this way.“

The two of you continue walking but you seem to be limping a little.

You point out a bag he’s carrying with him.

Hola Snow! No sé si ya te lo hayan preguntado pero tengo una duda, en una de las rutas de Laito (no recuerdo si era HDB o MB) pero en uno de los capítulos Yui dice verlo llorar o mejor dicho, "llorar sangre". ¿Solo él podrá hacer eso o los demás también? ¿Y por qué exactamente? No recuerdo haber leído que lloraran sangre en otra parte.

Hola! Para este tipo de preguntas realmente necesito que me den el contexto completo y la parte especifica en dónde dice esta frase, porque si no lo saben, el contexto es vital siempre. Además, si no te acuerdas en donde lo leíste específicamente, pierde veracidad. Lo comenté con una amiga que se leyó todas las rutas de Laito y dijo que eso no pasó.

Por lo general la expresión "llorar sangre" es algo que se dice en sentido figurado, no literal, y tiende a entenderse que lloras por haber sufrido una pérdida enorme, por perder una gran cantidad de dinero o por haber visto algo desagradable.

Pd: Revisé ambas rutas y en ninguna dicen que llora sangre.

Edit: Ok, ahora sí pude encontrar la escena, es específicamente el Ecstasy 6 de HDB.

En la escena Yui dice "¡¿...?! ¿Hay sangre cayendo de los ojos de Laito-kun? ...No, no es eso... son lágrimas.

Yui: "De algún modo me alivia saber que Laito-kun está derramando lágrimas de sangre por su madre."

La verdad es que... Sí, es extraño de interpretar, pero en vista de que no se explaya el tema de la sangre, por ejemplo, Laito no dice algo como "ah sí, los vampiros lloramos sangre" quiero seguir creyendo que son lágrimas excesivas, la frase "llorar lágrimas de sangre" sigue bajo el contexto de una pena indescriptible. Para Yui esta es la primera vez que ve llorar a Laito, una persona que poco menos pensaba que no sentía algo como la tristesa y le resulta curioso que llore tan desconsoladamente por una persona (y como está enamorada de él le alivia que sea por su madre). Es probable que al ver líquido cayendo de los ojos de Laito, lo primero que piense Yui es que está sangrando, porque, ¿cómo podría llorar Laito?

Y en el caso de que SÍ sean lágrimas de sangre real, el primer juego y cd dramas de diabolik lovers pusieron muchas cosas que más adelante no se han vuelto a tocar mucho, aunque aquí solo Laito llora sangre, así que sigo creyendo que ha sido en un sentido más figurativo que literal.

De paso intenté buscar en el manga, pero esta escena no fue adaptada allí, así que quedémonos más con lo primero.

Admin's Thoughts About the Mukami Brothers' MB Routes Part 1: Mukami Yuuma

I will publish these in the same order I originally played the Mukami routes in More, Blood.

When my friend introduced me to Diabolik Lovers, she told me that the Mukamis were "the wrong family" and "no one is supposed to like them". I didn't have high expectations because of that, but these days the Mukamis are my favorite family. My friend called me a cheater because of that. 🤣

Yuuma was the first Mukami whose route I played. I got so annoyed with him on Reiji's route that I figured I wouldn't like him. Hence I wanted to get his route out of my list.

But the funny thing, Yuuma warmed me up rather nicely and fast, too. He's grumpy and violent, yes, and so damn rude, but I can see he has a golden heart. For some reason, I have noted in my gaming diary that Yuuma tore Yui's clothes several times. I surely hope that he bought her new ones, at least. He probably didn't.

Soon, Yui noticed that the Mukamis seem to be closer to each other as a family than the Sakamakis, and well, I feel that way too. Their family dynamics are interesting and sometimes heartwarming to watch, even though they have fights, too.

What I really liked was Yuuma's way of stuffing things into Yui's mouth. He gave her sugar from mouth to mouth and fed her with peaches. And the fact that Yuuma cooked for Yui is so sweet. To be honest, I have forgotten that scene, but apparently, I have written about it in my diary. 🤭 I should play the route again.

I also liked how Yuuma wants to change the world for the better and more equal place. He opens up a bit about his past to Yui, which is a good thing if you ask me.

Still, I would have hoped that he wasn't so violent toward Yui on his own route... I got annoyed by him on Reiji's route because he hit Yui there. I hoped he wouldn't do that on his own route, but, oh well, it's Diabolik Lovers for a reason.

Yuuma's backstory with Shuu is one of the most interesting points on his route, and I was a bit sad that they didn't makeup during the route. Also, I got even more pissed with Reiji because he didn't allow Yuuma to even speak to Shuu after Yuuma had remembered what happened in the past.

Another interesting revelation on Yuuma's route was his virginity. Before that, I had assumed that all Diaboys had banged their prey whenever they got a chance, but not Yuuma. I honestly like the idea that Yui was his first.

Even though I had mixed feelings toward Yuuma, in the end, I enjoyed his route a lot and totally loved the After Story. He is adorable with his manners of stuffing things into Yui's mouth and with being a blushing grumpy. Also, the marriage thing and the talk about future plans made me teared up.

Yuuma gave me a better start with the Mukamis than I assumed. He didn't have my heart completely, but he greatly warmed me up. And while the Sakamakis were the ones that kind of lured me in (since I played HDB first), Yuuma pushed me toward my current hyper-fixation with the series and lured me into spending more time with the Mukamis. Such a sweet, grumpy boy~

As a Laito stan, I’m sick of people constantly hating on his HDB and judging his other stans based on that. Yeah, yeah, his route was challenging but not that traumatising. Diabolik Lovers will contain Diabolik lovers no matter what and it was the fricking first game. I still fell for this man there, he had a type of wicked charm that made my heart flutter somehow and I’m sure other Laito stans can agree with me on this one.

// I feel like out of all characters, Laito is the only one who did justice to the “Diabolik Lovers” title, and that’s why Japanese fans had no problem with his route. The other guys were bratty and mean but not diabolical, if it makes sense. Everyone seemed so tame in comparison to Laito (even Kanato despite his fork scene) because unlike him, they were shown to know when to stop so as not to genuinely break Yui and/or felt guilty if they did something really bad to her throughout their routes.

Even if Yui breaks in his route at some point, I wouldn’t say she turns out that bad in the end. I mean, I doubt anyone could remain completely sane in that situation but it could have been way worse, lol. In a way or another, she sort of got her Happy Ending with Laito, that’s why imo his whole HDB wasn’t really that terrible? People who listened to his first CD before playing the game must have known what they were getting themselves into, so I guess that’s why his route didn’t come off as very shocking. However, I can’t deny that it contains some very uncomfortable scenes, yet I wouldn’t say it’s the most painful DL route or thing ever created by Rejet.

Let’s not forget that in MB time got rewinded and HDB was basically erased. If HDB truly followed the same course of events as the other games, I would have understood the Laito slander, but it doesn't. His actions there have no impact on the story, and it irritates me when people judge a character based on something that was written more than ten years ago and that doesn’t change anything at all.

This is not weird omg no one ever asks me about dialovers you need to understand I was into VNs including otome before I was into any anime (including bsd) and diabolik lovers is my longest term obsession that isn't music 💜🙏 This is mostly going to involve things from the games (because the anime was basically silly fanservice that barely scratches the surface for anyone) but I'll leave out drama cd stuff because I would actually need to go refresh myself on those.

Anyone not familiar with the series who decides to continue pls be aware of these warnings and take care of yourself. Also pls understand everything I say is in terms of the series and setting. Absolutely nothing that happens in these games would make any of these characters redeemable irl. This is fiction and a trashfire Do-S fetish franchise. Trauma doesn't excuse abuse. I don't condone any of the bad behavior from this series irl. (Sorry since this isn't my sideblog I feel I need to explain this so ppl don't come at me thinking I'm excusing stuff for reals with this little analysis)

Also this is probably going to have spelling mistakes and horrific formatting because I wrote it on mobile so my bad on that too.

This was so hard to answer because so many of them have serious trauma, maladaptive coping mechanisms, and large amounts of growth throughout the various sequels. I think you could make the logical argument of depth for every single character. The Sakamaki triplets are def the most tragic of the first two games in this regard though (maybe only rivaled by the Tsukinami brothers once we get to Dark Fate because of the whole being the sole survivors of genocide thing)

But as a whole I think Carla and Shin deal with their predicaments in a more outwardly focused manner (which makes sense given their stories and roles as antagonists in their debut game) so I don't think I could objectively call them the deepest esp Carla even though he is my fave.

So out of the Sakamaki triplets I am going to go with Laito. Shocking I know because I have said before he is the one I am the most terrified of. But hear me out.

(I'm using HBD (haunted dark bridal) to refer to the first game, and MB (more blood) to refer to the second game going forward)

His first route in hdb is a stomach twisting mess of isolation, noncon, gaslighting and victim blaming. It is also the only route in that game where Yui tries to kill herself, which imo is really notable. Tbh the first time I played it I was so deeply uncomfortable I didn't really give his character a lot of thought. During replays and some of his drama cds though it def changed my perspective of him (in terms of the deepness of his character, not my dislike of him)

Here are my arguments in topical format because I don't really want to go through and do the research needed to refresh myself and make this chronological. Also if I am mistaken with anything I've paraphrased my bad it's because this isn't a real essay more of a rant that you might regret reading lol.

- Cordelia

We can't go into the rest of my arguments without the facts. He was groomed by his mother and experienced a childhood of CSA at her hands. And he is absolutely confused and suffering when he has his flashbacks. Yes he kills her with the other two triplets, but that didn't actually solve anything for him internally, and I think it is a pretty clear-cut argument that his negative traits and behaviors can be linked back to his unresolved trauma from this. He even says it himself too when he tries to project onto Yui and claim her hatred for him must be the same as his for Cordelia (though unnamed in his quote im pretty sure) that a hatred can run so deep that even killing the person won't relieve the burning. The other ironic part of this is that in the dialovers universe it is explained multiple times that the highest act of love for a vampire is murder. So. Every LI (Reiji, Laito, Ayato, Kanato) that committed matricide out of their hatred probably has some deeper more complex feelings going on than that. (You could also argue maybe a similar thing about Carla and patricide as well though he is Founder/First Blood not vampire. But he is more open about his reasoning and feelings around his parents and why he did what he did imo)

- His disdain of purity (plot twist. It's jealousy).

We repeatedly see him mock both Yui's purity and religiosity. He is arguably the worst out of all of the LIs when it comes to this topic, and hits this point right out the gate when he assaults her in the abandoned church. It is simultaneously a logical and also weird choice on his part to continue on with when you realize how unwavering her faith actually is, and if you do other routes before this one you are already coming in realizing no matter how much she "breaks", "changes", or "gives in" in other ways, she never actually abandons her faith completely even in future games when she is living quite literally in the demon world. Even in routes where she becomes a vampire she doesn't eschew God. However it is canon that she is a devout Catholic and that she originally wanted to be a nun (before the events of the game screw that up for her), so it is still relevant.

While it may have started as a way to try and break her down, it really becomes more and more clear through his routes that like a bunch of his other behaviors, he is projecting his own struggles onto Yui.

He is jealous of her purity, so he attacks it. He is jealous of her faith, so he attacks it. He is jealous of her unwavering belief in goodness and in humanity, so he just. keeps. attacking. it. Because seeing it exist in front of him hurts, but especially early on he isn't aware of his own emotions or why he acts the way he does. So many things in his routes and his monologues highlight the fact that Laito views himself as permanently dirtied by his past, and this behavior is tied to that.

- His inability to identify his feelings from his fake front and his use of sex to maladaptively deal with his trauma.

** I wrote way too much on this and decide nvm I think even if someone has only seen the anime his hypersexuality probably speaks for itself. Plus this is getting so long 😔**

-His lack of control in MB and "forced" behavior. His confusion over his own tears near the end of HDB.

There are various instances (esp in MB where his characterization is wildly different and desperate compared to HDB) where we see his mask start to crack, or realize that his mask wasn't actually very good to begin with and the exhaustion from the continous abuse in his routes has caused both Yui (and us as the reader) to fall for his bullshit more easily. He plays the part of a pervert, but Shu (who arguably is a massive pervert) calls him out in MB for being a phony. His behavior in MB makes him come across as desperate and out of control, as opposed to his calculated sadism in HDB. This all comes back to his inner turmoil, unresolved feelings, and trauma and we slowly unpeal those layers through the rest of the series.

I think at baseline it is really easy to dismiss Laito. I did from the beginning too. Plus he never stops calling Yui Bitch-chan no matter how many sequels he gets 🤦‍♂️ But that is just falling for his fake front, exactly what he wants you to do because then he can just keep carrying on without dealing with his bs and let off steam temporarily in the process. But under the surface there is a lot more going on. And he definitely is a character that has an insane amount of depth.

Sorry for the multi part novel. I don't even like him as an LI even in this series. But for a series with so many inconsistencies, retcons across games, and questionable writing choices, they did a good job with his character. I just need him to stay far away from both me and Yui 🥲 Imagine if you had asked me something that prompted me to talk about my faves 💀💀💀
