I did it… I finally did it…

My first experience with a ttrpg group was playing Pathfinder 1st Edition, which is pretty crunchy for newbies and combat turns tended take a while. To kill time we got mildly obsessed with making dice stacks, it involved a lot of shouting at our dice and constantly retrieving errant die from under furniture- a great time was had by all.
When I am making ttrpgs with a journaling component I like to include an end point. I know that I’m the kind of person who has trouble starting something without an end (I end up getting analysis paralysis) and in High-Rise Tales I figured a game themed about tall buildings having an end point that revolved around gravity was fitting.
The mechanic works as such- you’re rolling a d6 dice pool to generate prompts about the people, events, and organizations in the high-rise. Any time you roll a 1, it’s removed from the pool and added to the physical dice stack in front of you- the game session ends when your pool is depleted or your dice stack falls!
This was game 2 of 10 for the Shit of Get Off the Pot game jam

Dice stacking returns to Critical Role*
Matt: "What have you been doing over there? Wow."
Robbie: "he started it."
*(It's been a little while since someone succumbed to the Urge)
#Critical Role#D&D#dice#Robbie Daymond#Sam Riegel#I can't even criticize them or I'd be a hypocrite#since I play online and not in person I usually make dicks out of stacked dice

mom while setting up mahjong: aren't you going to be uncomfortable sitting sideways like that in the chair?
me: do you not see me sitting like a little gargoyle in my computer chair
#wheezing sounds#delete later#drowsy#but need to type up some story shit#I think my mom won overall? and then my dad and I were maybe sorta similar for second don't remember#and then my aunt last mdfjhkg#I won a lot but it was the type of wins that didn't get you a lot of coins hahah#or I would win but I would still have to pay other people money/get nothing because they had a 4 match#like....if a tile is tossed out and you win is one coin#but if you pull the winning tile yourself that's 2#and if you're the dice holder if you win everybody pays you an extra coin#4 match is 1 coin but if you have all 4 tiles in your hand that's a secret kang (4 match) and that's 2 coins#so they can kinda stack like crazy hahah

the concept of thistle being a frustrated DM enchants and haunts me (I have to draw a group piece I think) based off that one manga cover........
#thistle arguing with laios over the strength of certain monsters.#chilchuck bored af of them arguing stacking dice and izutsumi getting ready to knock the tower down#marcille and falin reading the player's handbook about spells for their characters.#mithrun asking kabru about the rules while kabru tries to figure out the party's plans.#senshi wondering if he should play a beautiful elf man the next time.

On this #AudioDramaSunday apparently I'm in the finals of the @audioverseawrds in 2 categories for 2 roles each !
In the "Guest Voices" category for "Forgive Me!" and "Dark Dice"
and in the "Recurring Voices" category for @re-dracula and @amongthestackspodcast
If you feel like dropping a vote for me or for any other of your favourite audio creatives please show your appreciation on the site.
There are some magnificently talented people represented in the finals so I am just honoured to be amongst them.

Thank you for running this complicated bracket!
I'm so sad though that I realized almost every character left in the AP bracket except one is from a DnD podcast/arc so there's almost no indie ttrpg rep in this round
You're welcome! And yeah, shout-out to Nicky Skyjacks for representing games that aren't D&D.
I was going to offer a teaser of an upcoming bracket because somebody submitted a character from We Will NOT Play D&D, but apparently it's named that because it's a scripted audio drama, and not because they'll play any game except for D&D. :(
Anyways shout out to Interstitial, The Unexplored Places, Campaign, NeoScum, TAZ Amnesty, Chapter and Multiverse, Pest Control, and of course Friends at the Table as well as any other podcasts in this bracket that played non-D&D games that I don't know about.
For those who might want to try listening to actual plays that aren't D&D but want something shorter/less of a commitment than the above, the GM for Campaign also has the podcast One Shot, and there's also Party of One Podcast.
For those wanting to try playing some indie TTRPGs, there's a bunch of cool ones for $10 in this itch.io bundle that's raising money for Medical Aid For Palestinians.
Feel free to reply or reblog with more actual play podcasts that use systems other than Dungeons and Dragons!
#Apparently the game used in Skyjacks is partially inspired by Illimat and I remember wanting it sooooo badly.#But it's not on my wishlist and now I'm trying to remember if I *did* get it for Christmas one year and forgot because I needed to go back#to school a week later.#Shadowrun and Edge of Empire aren't even what I'd call indie but they aren't D&D and they aren't Pathfinder and they aren't Call of Cthulu.#Ask#Not A Poll#Anonymous#At work I've been putting together a package of one-page TTRPGs to hand out to people for International Games Month and I really wanted to#put in “Totality” by HasBeenWizards because the dicestacking mechanic was SO fun in the game of “HOUNDs” by Tyler Crumrine#but unfortunately we do not have the budget to buy enough dice to make the dice-stacking mechanic work.

table-top silliness

the figure on the left, i believe, is of a cat with a pirate-style hat, bowing, sword drawn and being held out carelessly in the right hand. it's just what was at the store where i was playing today. the dice i brought with me, and when i stacked them in this rather silly way i thought it was worth taking a picture of, for fun. i hope all of you are having a wonderful day
