My two cents on the G-man "debate" that's currently clogging up the HL tag is that two things can be true at once:

We don't really know what the G-man's motivations are or who he might be working for, and we may never fully understand his character, even if Valve releases another game.

The G-man may not be intentionally, unambiguously evil, but he is still one of the series' main antagonists. Period. It's heavily implied that he orchestrated the resonance cascade and he canonically kidnaps and manipulates several characters, while carelessly (or perhaps even maliciously) leaving others to die. Even if we eventually learn that he did these things in service of some greater good, the fact remains that he inflicted pain and trauma onto the series' protagonists and didn't seem all that torn up about it.

Nobody's saying y'all can't have your fun and headcanon whatever you want about this guy, but if you are out here genuinely trying to convince other people that the source material says he's this benevolent, friendly dude, I am begging you to engage with the source material, or perhaps log off and touch grass.

Since I'm in a mood, here are some miscellaneous HCs for my Combaticons.

Onslaught was (like other military hardware) made in the army, which means he's basically socially inept when it comes to anything that doesn't follow a military structure, AKA anything to do with civilian life.

Onslaught was the general of the army of Thetacon. He brute-forced his way to the position with his competency in planning and organizing troops. So in the beginning of the third great war, it was pretty easy for someone savvy AND competent like Starscream to plan a coup and unite both of their armies, with himself as general, of course.

Ons will murmur in his sleep, "I should be SiC, not him...zzz.... Damned seeker...zzz."

Swindle and Onslaught are good friends. Ons really depends on Swindle's silver tongue and charisma more than he would like to admit. And Swindle likes Onslaught's company and dry humor.

Swindle and Onslaught have been the only fixed members of the Combaticons for years. Nowadays Blast Off is basically Onslaught's shadow, so he probably isn't leaving anytime soon.

Swindle gets so much wiggle room in the Decepticon faction to do what he wants because he's good friends with Starscream.

Brawl can't STAND Blast Off, Blast Off can't STAND Vortex, and Vortex often gets annoyed by Onslaught's rigidity.

Swindle is scummy af, but he's the one keeping things together.

Onslaught isn't a bad boss; he just had a deep disinterest in anything that isn't in the now of his plans. -> Also, anything to do with pesky feelings, just get a grip, y'all.

Onslaught has been playing dumb to Blast Off's advances for years. Blast Off is still convinced Ons would NEVER reject him.

Onslaught would never date Blast Off. Too sappy.

Both Hook and Blast Off are small-town hicks, but Hook is like Belle, and Blast Off is like Gaston. NOT in their relationship with each other (imagine that) but in how they relate to their hometowns and people.

Blast Off is coping with the fact that he's a 40-something (translating to human years), and the only thing he has going for him is his alt-mode, something inherent to him.

Blast Off will go on about his "potential" and how he doesn't need them, but even when he makes a big show about leaving, he will always come back crawling.

Brawl LOVES it when Autobots pile on Blast Off because that means he has an excuse to shoot him without repercussions.

Vortex is the medic of the Combaticons. Not because he wants to or because he knows the most, but because if he wasn't, no one would be.

Onslaught doesn't respect artists or creatives (OK BOOMER).

Onslaught is the oldest member of the Combaticons, but he doesn't look his age due to the fact that he had his spark and processor transferred to a top-of-the-line frame. He doesn't recognize himself in the mirror anymore, and his body feels alien, but hey, upgrades.

Vortex feels like the odd one out of the team. They're all from a different generation, he never joined the army, they don't have the same conversation topics, and they're just a pain to live with. (Brawl leaves his wet towel on the bed.)

No Bruticus.

Brawl is infinitely jealous of the Constructicons' gestalt upgrades.

Onslaught doesn't respect the Constructicons as equals and finds them incompetent as soldiers.

Blast Off couldn't care less for six nobodies with a gimmick.

Swindle HATES Scrapper, picks on Long Haul, and feels disinterested in the rest of them.

Vortex lived with Bonecrusher and his brother while Scrapper's crew was working in Kaon. They're good friends.

While I generally think claims about how much damage AI infrastructure does regarding energy and water usage tend to be overblown on this site, Google's AI implementation is one exception where it fully deserves to be clowned on for its wasteful uselessness. The "one ChatGPT prompt uses 5x the energy of a Google search" is not that scary to think about when you consider the context and scale behind what that statement means. By comparison, Google shoehorning AI into its search engine means it is quintupling the energy cost of said Google search, with no appreciable benefit to justify said massive cost increase. That Google's AI product rollout was almost certainly done purely to satisfy trend-chasing investors, with no real use-case, makes the move all the more despicable.
