Okay so I completely agree with this post (not rebloging because of language I don’t want on my blog) about non lasting injuries like when a character gets an obvious injury that should take weeks to heal and then the next scene or episode they’re just FINE

If you’re going to bring it up or make a big deal abt it FOLLOW THROUGH

Like in the mutant mayhem movie Raph’s shell CRACKS visibly, dramatically, and loudly but in the next scene he’s just perfectly fine!!??!? And Leo in the Rottmnt movie goes through SO MUCH and then he’s out having pizza with the fam

I just wish to see some recovery. Even if they showed a “weeks later” or “months later” scene before the big hangout in Rottmnt movie that’d be great!!

There are SO MANY instances of this all throughout movies and shows and I just want actual consequences

That’s also one thing I love abt 2012 tmnt bc they follow through in multiple episodes with raphs anger issues and fear of bugs! Also Leo’s broken leg! But 2012 also has many inconsequential injuries and scenes (like the post I linked the person mentioned the scene where Rahzar should have DIED but he was just fine after getting hit by a train)

How Mutant Mayhem uses it’s style (Part 1).

Been wanting to breakdown TMNT’s approach to style since at first it looks familiar but is very different. This is gonna be a long post.

The movie is going for an oil painting Claymation look. To give it a gross, messy street art texture.

Overlaying it with sketchy 2D effects to give the animation extra pop. This really highlight the setting, and the core of the film being how being mutants is clashing with their age.

The film uses the look to recreate film effects. When something moves fast instead of a motion blur, they literally smear the paint. Like it’s falling behind, these are slowed down to get a better look.

This is even slower to see the detail.

The next thing is camera focus, since the sketch and painting effects are on the models, they literally smudge them to make something out of focus. You can see that with all the turtles here especially Leo with his sword. 

Or here with April just look at her hair, bringing down the sketch and playing up the paint. 

This post is quite long so I’ll split this post into parts. There’s even more about the look that I want to share so I’ll do that at another time.

OUGHHH i hate when people misinterpret my favorite characters LIKE!! Junkrat is so. Punk. He is so. Grunge. He’s dirty and grimy and paints his fingernails and toenails black and he made his own prosthetics and he wears eyeliner that probably isnt even actually eyeliner!! He kills millionaires and wears spikes and actively hates authority!! He is soooo like. Ancom!! He steals and kills and fights dirty and makes his own bombs!! Im not saying that people write/draw him too goody or whatever, but i am saying that he isnt being drawn/written/made like this enough!! Embrace his filth!! Give into the demons!! Same thing with Roadhog like. Hes so ancom and hes punk and hes metal and he’s grungy and he’s soo!! Give into the voices and make them emo!!

thinking abt mm casey jones and how he's already in the high school when the movie happens, he and april know each other in passing. they're both the outcast/keep to themselves type, and have this unspoken sort of "i don't feel comfortable around people but you can sit with me" bond. maybe casey's the same age as the turtles, so it's his freshman year while april's a sophmore, so april's sort of taken on the big sister role because she understands how it feels to be on the outside.

and when the turtles come to the school casey's just sort of... interested in them? because idk i'm thinking about a casey who maybe had to move a few years prior, and he's still a little awkward and trying to find his own footing near the end of his first year in high school. and maybe he's a little worried that his only friend is suddenly going to disappear and only hang out with the really cool turtles, but the first thing april does when the turtles get to school is drag them over to casey's locker and introduce them to him, all excited that her friends are going to be able to actually hang out with each other!

and casey gets roped into all their shenanigans, and he's introduced to the other mutants, and it's obvious to everyone at the school that casey is part of the turtles' group, so no one even tries to cause trouble with him, and the one and only time someone does he's surrounded by the boys, but it's really april that they have to be terrified of.

Hey Prom! What did you think of Mutant Mayhem?! Movie of the year?

ABSOLUTELY NOT, not when Across The Spiderverse came out. That movie was absolutely movie of the year for me.

But GOD I loved MM! I bit dents into my fucking finger to keep myself from stimming violently, and even then I still couldn't help myself. The animation and music is beautiful, the movie was funny, the climax is everything. I have a lot more detailed thoughts tbh but I don't wanna spam spoilers.

I don't think it's a PERFECT movie like a lot of people are saying. I had some issues with it. But I'd give it a Hella high rating regardless. 9/10? 8.5/10? Something like that
