For anyone needing to revert back to the prev version of discord before the rollout, search for Discord: Talk, Chat & Hang Out 204.18 - Stable (nodpi) (Android 7.0+)

You'll get a download page from APKMirror

You'll want to delete your current version of discord off your phone first BEFORE downloading and installing the APK, otherwise it won't work

Edit: Please go to your app store settings and disable auto update!!! Otherwise you'll continually get the rollout!

who let discord cook on this new ui i want the old one back this one messes with my muscle memory so bad and it is actively less convenient like

the member list is way out of the way instead of being a simple swipe to the right, now swiping to the right triggers a reply on the message you swiped over instead

search tool is missing several results and no longer lets you go through pages you have to scroll down which makes finding stuff harder especially if it’s not recent

why is the invite members button right below the search that makes me anxious abt accidentally inviting someone to a server that’s supposed to be private or something

something something DM list and server list didn’t need to be in separate tabs

okay two good things uhh I like how voice calls look and being able to search for members is handy

but oh my god everything else is so much less convenient and it wasn’t needed

pissed abt the new discord mobile update so heres my rant.

the new hud is ugly, laggy and impractical. the lil servers button will ALWAYS have a blue light unless you read every server message which is dumb. they should have an option to turn that off or revert it back to the old HUD (like how reddit has its current site and its "old site HUD" verision), it feels laggy to swap between servers and messages and its slow, making it hard to balance having two conversations at once. you cant even see which people are online in servers by swiping to the side anymore and have to press the search button (which takes a moment to even load, adding more to the lag factor), not to mention, messages look weird now since you ALSO cant side swipe to see whos online/status messages, you must press the search tab and then itll lag to load and show up like how instagrams messaging system does, with it separating the media sent, link and some other stuff. overly complex and unneeded.

not to mention, the new "midnight" color background doesnt even look midnight, you'd expect it to be pitch black on all parts but instead they made it blueish, which is dumb and knowing current discord, they'd put pitch black behind the discord nitro color themed backgrounds (which is also stupid but thats a whole other can of worms.)

overall the new interface is annoying, laggy, UGLY, and hard to traverse, the seperation of areas was unneeded, made worse by the fact that discord themself have said that a setting to make it go back to normal wont be made and if anyone doesnt like it, to delete their accounts. (most likely not caring due to the fact that they have no competition in purely texting apps), it is also full of glitches such as: people being able to send messages but it STILL being in the text box, being so laggy its unuseable and from what ive seen, nobody online is happy as it completely removes all user-friendly access to things and makes it generally hard to use.

OPEN your got damn discord client on desktop (THE APP NOT THE BROWSER IT DOESN'T WORK FROM BROWSER)

now press ctrl + shift + i to open the console (you may have to go to app settings > advanced > toggle dev mode on if it's not showing up)

it's gonna pop out these warnings. ignore them, the code you're about to inject isn't malicious at all. (that being said, ALWAYS thoroughly vet console commands before entering them into your client)

i recommend having your phone open for the next part, just to see how cool it is. below the last console message, paste the block of code on the github page into the text field and press enter.

your phone's UI will flip back in real time, and now you have an option to toggle the setting on and off in your mobile settings. AND it works with modded mobile clients as well!! i was able to make it work on non-rooted vendetta.

what this code does is force the now-hidden old layout toggle to be viewable, since it's a server-side setting. the person who made the code said that this is likely only a temporary solution, and discord may very well remove the toggle entirely from future updates, rendering this code useless.

BUT FOR NOW enjoy being able to use modded apps without the godawful tabs v2

If you don't like the new mobile discord layout, go to your profile section, click on appearance settings and do this

Please update the app, do this, and express your disdain directly through the layout feedback button below this setting, rather than avoiding updating it completely to ignore it. User feedback is important mate!!

DISCORD'S NEW UI IS HARMFUL TO USERS!! Discord's new mobile UI is inaccessible and downright dangerous to it's mobile users. It has caused me severe migraine headaches and sensory overwhelm so severe that I can't use the mobile app anymore because there are no low contrast options. The images flicker when loaded, and could end up causing seizures for people who are photosensitive. The app is now also extremely hard to navigate, confusing for everyone, and even crashes screen readers, meaning people who use them literally just cannot message their friends on discord anymore. This NEEDS to change, URGENTLY. Many disabled people, mentally ill people and otherwise vulnerable people rely on messaging apps like discord because they cannot leave their houses or socialize in other ways for a variety reasons. Send support tickets, sign the petition, share this post and other posts like it. THEY CANNOT JUST IGNORE THE NEEDS OF DISABLED AND OTHERWISE IMPAIRED INDIVIDUALS. Hey, you. Are you annoyed at the new Discord update and want to go back to the old UI*?

It's actually really easy to do. First things first, you need to uninstall Discord. Once that's done, locate an APK file of a legacy version of Discord. Anything is fine as long as it's before version 206 (for my testing I used version 204) https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/discord-inc/discord-chat-for-gamers/ here's the website that I used for mine. Make sure that you use a stable version of the application as you will be dealing with less jankyness that way. (if you use an .apkm file you'll need an additional application that can unpackage the compressed version of that like APKMirror)

Once you've installed this legacy version, you're going to have to log into your account and access the beta version of the new, current UI by sending a ✨

Now before you go through the same method to disable it, while it's enabled navigate over to the setting>appearance and scroll down until you see a switch to toggle of the New Layout. Once this is done, it's disabled and it'll stay off. Even into modern versions of the application. I'm on version 208 with the old UI.

*This only works on Android devices, I'm sure that it can also be done on Apple devices, but as I don't own one, I can't help find a way to get it working for you. Sorry

Still suffering from the new discord layout?

well considering the app was lagging so much earlier that i accidentally hit the call button when i was just trying to read my friend’s status i’d say it’s still an issue lol (blu if you’re reading this sorry for the scare lol)

i’ve gotten a little more used to it but that still doesn’t mean i like it

having to tap a button to pull up a separate page to see who’s online still feels clunky compared to just swiping to open a side tab

and the search function is just entirely obnoxious cause sometimes i want to find a specific message but i can’t remember which channel it was in

also although it doesn’t affect me specifically ik the current themes are really problematic for a lot of people because they’re so high contrast

so in summary i’m not suffering as much as when it was first rolled out but i still wish i could go back to the original
