How I Capture Songwriting Ideas on the Fly

What’s up, DigiGang? Ever find yourself with a random lyric or melody stuck in your head at the most unexpected times—while eating dinner, watching TV, or just living life? Same here. Over the years, I’ve developed a method to make sure I never lose those moments of inspiration, and I want to share it with you.

My process combines two simple tools: the Notes app and Voice Memos. Here’s how it works:

Capture the Thought: The moment an idea pops into my head, I grab my phone and open the Notes app. I write down whatever lyric, concept, or spark of inspiration is on my mind.

Record the Melody: If a melody comes to me, I switch to Voice Memos. I record myself humming, singing, or explaining the delivery of the idea. This helps me remember the vibe and details when I revisit it later.

Combine and Organize: Here’s the cool part. I press and hold the recording, drag it into the note, and drop it in place. Now I have the written lyric and vocal sample in one spot, making it easy to revisit the original inspiration.

This system helps me stay grounded in my ideas and hit the ground running when it’s time to write, produce, or fine-tune a song. The next time you have a creative spark, try this method and see if it helps your workflow.

Fallen summer angels – Music Review

Artist: Storie Grubb. Location: Boise, Idaho, U.S. Genre: Americana, Rock.

Now I would like to share the experience of listening to “fallen summer angels”.

In the case of Storie Grubb, the word Artist fits the description of someone that goes beyond the music. You need to visit his Bandcamp profile where you will find that he has produced many albums and he also displays skills as visual artist.

If you read the dates when his albums have been released, you will notice that he releases very often.

“fallen summer angels” is the first of seven tracks of his Instrumental album named “boom plague” released August 2019.

This track sets the scene for what is to come in the next tracks, it sounds to me like an introduction that makes the listener to get familiar with the sounds that are all over the album, flowing from the basic line up of a rock band: Guitars, bass and drums, and all of this accompanied with short but important appearance of a synthesizer emulating vocals emphasizing the chorus.

The short intro shows the clean and warm guitar tone, leading to strumming americana rhythm that turns into a rock riff preceding a sweet chorus.

The structure is simple during the length of the song until it prepares the listener for a different story with a bridge that appears after the middle to take you back to the rhythm section, and once again near the end, the bridge announces that something big is coming our way.

Then the track ends abruptly, I compare this to kicking open the door to let the remaining 6 tracks to come in the scene. I would say that it contrasts nicely with the intro of next track.

I think that this description is a bit more than enough. Now enjoy it.

I chose this track to share it with you because it transmitted to me the joy of strumming rhythm guitar. I bet that fans of americana and rock and roll genres would enjoy this.

Another reason of why I chose this track is that, how I mentioned before, it sounds like an introduction, not only for the album, but for a group of many of the albums that Storie Grubb has created.

“fallen summer angels” is an invitation to explore the large discography of Storie Grubb albums and enjoy the creation of this prolific artist.
