“So, you know, I broke an engagement to be here.”
Eddie’s head snaps up and away from the dilapidated Derry sidewalk he’d been staring at to avoid tripping on a crack and losing a tooth in this godforsaken town.
When he looks up, though, Richie is staring straight forward next to him, hands shoved deep into his pockets and shoulders hunched up toward his ears. If it hadn’t been for the subtle red flush high up on his cheeks, Eddie would’ve assumed he had imagined hearing him speak.
But he knows Richie definitely said that out loud for a reason, so he nudges their elbows together and says, “Yeah, I know, it was all over Twitter. Comedian Rich Tozier Bombs Onstage, Cancels Remaining Shows in Vegas.”
“Can’t believe Eddie Kaspbrak is a Twitter fiend,” Richie smirks before dropping his own gaze to the sidewalk.
Suddenly he’s shaking his head, a sharp, jerky motion Eddie remembers from high school.
“Not that kind of engagement, Eds. A marriage one. A proposal. You know — I was engaged. Never got married, that part really was a joke. But I was engaged to this girl. For, like, seven years.”
“Jesus.” Eddie stares at him openly, but he can’t see anything in the face of this man — this stranger’s face on the soul of his best friend. “You always jumped headfirst into Step One of a plan, but never seemed to make it to Step Two. Isn’t that right? Is that what happened here?”
Richie’s mouth turns up on one side, the way he always seemed please whenever Eddie would rib him for something back in the day. But he shrugs one shoulder, too, like he’s taking the question seriously and yet coming up short of a clear response.
“Something always held me back from the actual marriage part,” he admits, kicking at an acorn in his path. “We’d start looking at venues, talk about DJs or live bands, but…something always stopped me before we could make any concrete plans.”
His stride lengthens, just for a second, damn those long legs of his, and Eddie has to scurry to catch up to him and hear what he says next:
“Just always felt like something was missing, until Mike called and the memories started coming back. That’s when I ended things with her for good.”
Eddie’s heart trips for a beat or two, and he tries to shove that strange reaction down and give this conversation with Richie his full attention — he can consider his traitorous body and its weird impulses later.
“Something in you must’ve remembered us, even subconsciously,” he muses, “and you knew it wouldn’t be right to have a wedding without the Losers there.”
He thinks he hears something like a chuckle from Richie, and he can’t imagine why, but sure enough, there’s a smile guarding Richie’s words when he half-turns his face toward Eddie to speak again.
“Think you’re right, Spaghetti. I just couldn’t go through with a wedding without you.”

Human! DJ Music Man Headcanons 🕷🎧🎶
Here's to our favorite giant enemy spider
🎧As said in the general headcanons, DJ’s “main arms are covered with inner wiring and skin, making them look muscular. The extra four are not covered in skin and wires (because the designers thought it would freak people out of he looked like he had six arms attached to his body.) The four arms are connected by battery sized port that’s rooted into DJ’s back.
It’s sensitive.
And it’s not covered by any skin.
Why? Fazco’s dumbfuckery.
So be careful when you hug him. Aim for his lower back so you don’t touch the pack.
🎶There was a concert at the Fazcade until he stop it after seeing someone getting harassed. Security immediately came to take the harasser away and the party started again. Assault is not allowed on the dance floor.
🕷️He doesn’t have a room (Damn Fazco! *shakes fist in the air*) so he lives in the tunnels. Either him or the little music men scavenge for random stuff left over from the day. Sometimes Moon brings a gift or two to him when he visits.
🎧Speaking of Moon, the two are good friends. Ever since Moon helped a poor little music man that was stuck in a hole, DJ’s respect and trust for him increased. The little music men love Moon now and DJ got a new friend. Both would hang from the ceiling in the tunnels, chatting for a bit. If Moon needed a little extra help on lullabies, the two would brainstorm. The little music men acting as their audience.
🎶And speaking of the little music men, they are not human. They look like the regular design from the game. Why do they follow DJ if they don’t really look alike? ‘Cuz he’s a cool dude 😎. Anyways, the music men like to explore through the plex, finding random stuff and bringing it back to DJ. If you’re ever in trouble, they would crash their cymbals together to alert the main man, to which he goes through the tunnels to find you. He loves the music men and so do they.
🕷️A date would probably be either some sort of underground club or arcade. Imagine this man, with all six of his arms playing six different games at once. While you two brawl in some fighting game, he already has the highest score in PAC-MAN, Galactica, Donkey Kong, and some random 9-year old in air hockey.
🎧He doesn’t get very jealous, maybe blasting some weird song loudly to ward off the potential threat…but if he hears that you’re getting harassed, the shades come off and he’ll glare at the attacker before walking you out of there.
🎶Very comforting. Will rub your back if you’re in need of affection. His voice is very soothing and somehow always has the right thing to say. He’ll also offer you a free personal love show. Just for you!
🕷️VA headcanon: Either Zeno Robinson in his role of Deejay in Street Fighter 6 or Rich Brown in his role of Big Band in Skullgirls.
*Bonus Non-Human DJMM headcanon: I know usually people depict DJ being mute and having to use sign language to communicate (which I’m not saying I don’t like it but it’s a little repetitive. And hard to write.)
Other authors and writers have described him as having a deep, baritone voice or some AI generated male voice, which is fine but generic. I personally headcanon that DJ would communicate how Bumblebee (yes the one from Transformers) would talk. By using snippets of songs and forming sentences with them. Like he’ll say “yeah” but use the one from Ariana Grande’s “God is a Woman” (or some other song where she just says yeah) Or Lionel Richie’s “Hello” just to say hello.
“No DJ. I can’t stay here, I got to get home.”
“I'm beggin', beggin' you~” [Beggin’ by Måneskin] As he raises his hands, pleading 🙏🥺

Good morning! I hope you slept well and feel rested? Currently sitting at my desk, in my study, attired only in my blue towelling robe, enjoying my first cuppa of the day. Welcome to Throwback Thursday!
On this page, ‘Throwback Thursday’ is all about memories. So, what do you remember? If I was to say the word HISTORY what immediately comes to mind?
Naturally, I’m inspired to select this word today because of what happened on Tuesday. My god, there was a lot of history on the pavements of Camden Town on Tuesday! The one person I hadn’t seen for the longest (more than 30 years) was a young man called Richie Rich. Back in the day, Richie was a dancer and part of a troupe called Sidewalk (Hey Michele Wright!) Sidewalk were one of the leading break dancing and body-popping crews; I used to see them everywhere! Richie reminded me that, in the video for Freeez’s ‘I.O.U.’ you will see him dancing, Paul ‘Trouble’ Anderson on the decks plus members of the original Mastermind Roadshow. Richie then made hip hop records and, later on, created one of the most important dance records of the late-eighties ‘Salsa House’, later re-released in a mash-up with Ralphi Rosario’s ‘You Used To Hold Me’. Talented guy! And here’s some more history: just before Gordon’s stone was unveiled, Omar talked about pirate Kiss FM playing the hell out of the original Kongo Records pressing of ‘There’s Nothing Like This’, which led to Omar getting a major label deal with Talkin’ Loud, and he expressed his gratitude. What with all those original Kiss FM DJs in attendance, we were all surrounded by a lot of important London club culture and radio history! Told you I’d be going selfie mad!
On Saturday, I’ll be in Camden again, appearing on the Mi-Soul stage at the Camden Music Festival. I shall be whipping it out and snapping whoever I run into! Don’t even bother protesting! You know the drill: hair back, chest out, smile for the camera!
So, on this Throwback Thursday, what kind of memories, thoughts or emotions does the word HISTORY conjure up for you?
Wednesday was a good day for me! I know the weather was amazing but I had assignments to mark! Man, I was head down and focused; I had a big pile of assignments to mark and I nailed that pile! Killed it stone dead! When I put my mind to a task, I really deliver! In truth, it was probably better for me to be inside. My head was still recovering from Tuesday’s heat. I just narrowly avoided sunstroke! Today, I’ve got more marking to do. I suspect, when we fly to Jamaica next Wednesday, I’ll still have a few more assignments to mark. I’m taking my laptop and I’ve forewarned The Trouble that – for the first few days – she may have to drink on her own!
Right, let me shower and dress. I might have to do some shopping and hoovering as well today? A wife’s work is never done!
Have a throbbing and thrusting Thursday (with hopefully a few thrills through your thoroughfare?) I love you all.

Amanda (Amanda Lepore)
Of all the celebrities in the world, I chose her. I could have had Britney, J.Lo, Maria, Fergie, Celine, or Elizabeth Taylor-- heck, even Tilda Swinton, if androgyny was so compelling….
But no. My very deliberate first choice of celebrity perfume came from an aging transgender socialite with a rampant cosmetic surgery addiction and four dance-mix EPs that can best be described as unlistenable.
Why her? Why Amanda Lepore?
For those not in the know, Amanda Lepore is the steely-yet-vulnerable, thoroughly unshockable, plastic-fantastic queen of Manhattan's stygian depths. During the legendary '90's, Amanda ran with the likes of James Saint James, Richie Rich, DJ Keoki, and the Club Kids' notorious Svengali, Michael Alig. Her über-smooth, surgically-enhanced visage -- complete with cherry-red lips pumped full-to-bursting with collagen -- provided photographer and lifelong friend David LaChappelle with decades of inspiration. On the other hand, it's also attracted a particularly nasty brand of social editorial, scathing in its rejection of the blurred gender line.
But rest assured, I am not here to wield that weapon.
On the surface, Amanda's world is as far from my world as Pluto is to the sun. But I have been attracted to it all my life. I myself have walked the gender identity tightrope, as have many of my idols: David Bowie, Patti Smith, Nico and Candy Darling, Lili Elbe, Justin Vivian Bond, Kate Bornstein, Charles Busch, John Cameron Mitchell, Eddie Izzard, Divine. I identify more with these outlaws of the gender frontier than I do with Britney & Co. any day. And because of all this, I desperately wanted Amanda not to fail. I longed to see her perfume blow away all the haters and baiters and nasty naysayers.
Due to its limited production (only 5,000 bottles released) and prohibitive price tag ($900+), it appears that precious few samples of Amanda ever made their way into the hands of reviewers. Most journalists, online and off, merely recycled the most shocking snippets from the office press release. Its bottle (encrusted with 1,000 Swarovski crystals!) and its preposterous ingredients (red lipstick! Steamed rice! A dash of real Cristal® champagne"!) set Amanda up to be a magnificent train wreck.
Yet Luca Turin swore up and down that the damned thing had merit. He raved about the marvelous job done by Christophe Laudamiel to harness and tame its sizable iris content (which -- more than any amount of tacky bling -- surely accounted for that massive price tag).
If this was the Holy Grail of trash fragrances, loyalty drove this kitten to undertake a quest. In the end I found a tiny decant listed at a 60% percent discount-- perfect for me, since naturally I don't have a month's rent to spend on a single perfume. What else could I do? I snapped it up.
While waiting for its delivery, I confess I began to suffer from buyer's remorse. Had I really stopped to consider what a former Club Kid's perfume might smell like? I envisioned sweaty cleavage encased in a cruelly boned corset, whose black organza and lace had absorbed an evening's worth of subway stench, cigarette smoke, spilled bubbly and lightly toasted ketamine. (What can I say? I've read AND watched Party Monster far too often for my own good.) Even worse, I imagined the smell of the corset's matching black lace panties. A boozy, sexy, sticky, spent-all-night-at-the-club-and-can't-be-bothered-to-shower-now sort of smell. An ANGEL sort of smell.
What the hell had I done?
When Amanda arrived, I sat staring at the spray sample vial as if it held Eau de Kryptonite. I decided to apply it after a shower, not bothering to dress in case I found myself forced to break a land-speed record to get back under the hot spray.
Please, god, please-- don't let it be a scrubber, I found myself chanting. Come on, Amanda….
The first note shocked me cross-eyed. Are you fucking serious? I heard myself saying aloud. Apparently, yes she is. Delicate, delicious, and without a doubt feminine, here was the scent of steamed rice. When I first read those words in the press release, I'd thought it was a joke. But what now rose from my wrists was a remarkable facsimile of steamer-cooked Japanese short-grain brown rice, bran-rich and faintly woody. A mandarin note rode atop it, veiled as daintily in curls of steam as Lady Godiva in her long golden tresses. (Again, Amanda: are you fucking serious?)
A faint hint of fruity plastic -- the so-called "lipstick" accord -- followed, tailed by a tinge of something alcoholic. Cristal®? More like Gekkeikan. Yes, it was the unmistakable scent of warm plum sake. After expecting to be clocked in the head with a disco ball, to be ushered instead into the tatami room of a traditional kaiseki restaurant was near about the limit. The repast Amanda set before me was simple, impeccable, refined-- but she wasn't finished with me yet.
After ten minutes, the iris kicked in. The scent of iris shares so many olfactory characteristics with the notes that came before it -- rice, steam, gluten, wood, even plastic -- that I found myself whispering, Yes, yes, of course, I see it! It's not listed, but I trusted my own nose and that of Luca Turin: there's iris in here, all right. (In fact, I think that perhaps it alone creates that starchy-steam accord.)
After an hour, I was still fully engaged with the interweave of Amanda's three main accords: iris, rice, mandarin. At any given moment, one seemed more prominent than the others-- but a moment later, it gracefully ceded the foreground to another. I kept expecting a hostile takeover by something loathsome a la Angel, but it never came. Over and over, eternal, tranquil, they braided closely around one another - iris, rice, mandarin.
The watershed moment came when my spouse came home from work. I'd warned him that morning that my pulse points would be the staging area for an experiment-- possibly hazardous. Now I held my arm out to him. Correctly gauging the smile on my face as a green light, he leaned in cautiously to inhale, then nodded.
"That's really nice; what is that?" he said.
"It's Amanda," I replied.
"It's quieter than I expected," he said. "Pleasant."
"A keeper?"
"A keeper."
That night I wore it to an art gallery opening. With my spouse by my side and Amanda on my skin, I felt as though I was in the best of company. How does that song go?
Well she's all you'd ever want; She's the kind you'd like to flaunt and take to dinner. Well she always knows her place; She's got style, she's got grace-- she's a winner. She's a lady… and the lady is mine.
--Tom Jones "She's A Lady"
Scent Elements: Iris, mandarin, strawberry, woods, cucumber, "red lipstick", "steamed rice", and "champagne" accords. And Amanda. Beautiful, fascinating, unforgettable Amanda.

A-T-4 097 Euro-Rap Pt.3: Great Britain
Grandmaster Richie Rich - Check It Out the first record from London DJ and co-founder of Gee Street Records Richie Rich (Richard Morgan)

Broken Glass - Style Of The Street Manchester b-boy troop Broken Glass and Liverpudlian DJ Greg Wilson with Andy Connell and Martin Jackson of Swing Out Sister et al. Kermit who would go onto be in the Ruthless Rap Assassins and Black Grape and Fiddz are the rappers. Greg Wilson tells all here https://electrofunkroots.co.uk/articles/broken_glass.html
Style Of The Street was originally on the completely fabricated Street Sounds UK Electro compilation. It's a bit of a shame they thought they had to invent a scene because the UK was releasing so def electro. Anyway, Greg Wilson will not let it lie https://electrofunkroots.co.uk/misc/uk_electro.html
youtube
Rapologists Featuring Flakey 'C' And Early Daze - The Hip Hop Beat - Kids' Rap The Kid in Kid's Rap is Whiz Kid who released Play That Beat Mr. D.J. with G.L.O.B.E. and was married to Betty Boo. The instrumental Street Mix is my preferred mix but here's the vocal. The Rapologists changed their name to Universal Funk, central to them was Herbie Laidley of the Mastermind hip hop sound system who mixed many of the Street Sounds Electro albums
youtube
Junior Gee and The Capital Boys - Check Us Out Junior Gee had already put out Caveman Rock the year before. Check Us Out was written and produced by Tony Williams of the Funk Masters, they're best known for Love Money
youtube
Family Quest & Automation - Outer Space 84 Rap b-side to an electro version of Atmostphere's Dancing In Outta Space. In 1986 Family Quest won the King Of The Streets competition on Mike Allen’s legendary Capital Radio show, their vocals flip between American accents and London
youtube
As you can hear rap at this time sounded quite different in the UK, France, and Italy. In the UK an effort not to sound like our American cousins was already beginning. The UK had a strong sound system culture and the Saxon DJs like Papa Levi were developing a distinct British voice, over the next decade the same would happen in UK rap. Some bright person could write a PHD about the development of rap in Europe and each European countries relationship with the US, immigration, and their colonial pasts. Perhaps because the UK has a rather weak cultural identity that UK rap imitated the US more closely? The early 1980s was the time of race riots so it’s easy to imagine the appeal of African American culture over the Black British experience for young brits
There were a few novelty or spoof rap records put out in the UK in 1984, like The Baron Knights' Churchill Rap. In the British music hall tradition we have spoken interludes to dip into which you can hear in Noël Coward and becomes the whole of Rex Harrison performance of Why Can't The English? in the musical My Fair Lady, it's the mixture of these two traditions Pet Shop Boys and The Flying Lizards tap into. Music hall songs also used call and response with audiences

Richard Serrell (born March 1, 1968) known by his stage name Richie Rich, is a rapper from Oakland. He runs his record label, Ten-Six Records. He first entered music in the late 1980s with group 415. With D-Loc, DJ Daryl, and JED, he crafted a Bay Area album in 1989 called 41Fivin, which sold well around the Bay Area and spawned a Richie Rich solo album, titled Don’t Do It.
He found himself in the middle of a bidding war between Def Jam Records and Relativity Records. He chooses to go on Russell Simmons’ label Def Jam. Before forming his label, Oakland Hills 41510, he released his second solo album in 1996, Half Thang, which peaked on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums at number 57.
He became the first Bay Area rapper to sign with New York’s Def Jam Records, and his major-label album, Seasoned Veteran, was released in late 1996 Seasoned Veteran did rather well on the charts, and music videos were released for three songs on the album. #africanhistory365 #africanexcellence
