hiya, just wanted to ask.. what do you (or just the fandom in general) think of self shipping with the characters of rain world ? like would people jump at my throat if I started posting about it?

idk how I feel about the scugs or other creatures yet, mainly talking about the iterators here.. sorry, I'm really paranoid to post about it bc I'm scared of backlash..

This is uh... certainly a question. Overall I dont prefer to see it, but im not gonna go out of my way to hate on it, like no harm done artists be artists, unless its super facked up and controversial (you know what kind). I think ive seen people self ship with iterators and it was chill? We can ask the fandom.

gang i have a rw au idea [ shocker ]

inv infection thang. inv starts appearing everywhere and eventually starts basically weirdmageddon. all the guys have to team up to beat it [ umm during the great migration because i want gourm and crew to have to like. have a cool scene idk i have a really cool thing planned in my head

all the scugs will be in it. yes, truly all of them: even both nightcat and inv. yes even survivor and monk's unnamed sibling. yes even monk and survivor's parents. yes literally every scug featured in gourmand's outro scene. and more

what do yall think and what should i call it

inv is less "haha dating sim" and more "im gonna ruin your life :) in the funkiest way possible! *does a skateboard trick and opens a pocket dimension*" "*puts on shades and suddenly reality is distorted* heheha!"

inv closes off the void sea ( probably pre story events or hunter would have already ascended ) so hunter surv and monk all are just like having to team up. surv monk happy family scene and hunter saving them from an inv clone or domething. yk the cool one in zombie apocalypse movies

monk and survivor are basically kids. again this is migration. so hunter is like their stepdad [ genderneutral ]

hunter cycles ending ( trying to avoid spoilers ) is probably inevitable. they might be able to meet pebbles to get it extended but I still don't think hunter will make the entire thing because there's no way this thing is >25 cycles long. sorry hunter ( you will be missed dearly /gen )

thought it would be sick if arti appeared too so i had to. extend her lifespan. also shes huge like. 2x normal scug size

spearmaster is genetically modified to be a messenger for who knows how long suns intended it to be so thankfully i dont think it's as much as a stretch that they're alive

saint is an eldritch being so they could probably mess some stuff up too

dont really. see how in the world rivulet could fit timeline wise ill be honest. they are literally the only one left out. ill have inv bring them in through a pocket dimension or something because otherwise there would be no ruffles and that would be sad

forgot to mention this but having so many attack oriented slugs just being the main cast without being together doesnt make much sense. so spear and arti are a team but they dont really get along or talk to each other much and also theres no firecracker sorry guys

ill probably be generally avoiding ships in this comic besides maybe some like enot shenanigans?? but i don't think ill really do much of that either because this isnt romance this is a bunch of rodents fighting a choatic rodent glitch god

the iterators exist too. tell me whether you want them off the strings or not. ill give you examples of what happens on either side starring suns

off strings: spearmaster and suns are the duo of all time and artificier is there too. she dragged pebbles along but he doesnt want to be any part of this

on strings: suns videocalls spearmaster a lot and cheers whenever they make a slight achievement

nightcat/watcher is probably gonna be part of the colony. theyre the scout

moon and sig will also definely be there, potentially innocence and wind too if yall want them. also maybe more itties idk. we'll see

all of the iterators if off the strings are actually terrible at combat and they cannot parkour so that would allow some funny moments. funny pebbles cannot jump to save his life or encouraging wholesome suns which do yall prefer

i find it funny how half the scugs are the cool one and then theres survivor monk riv and watcher. and then theres the iterators who are even more pathetic [ silly ]

sofanthiel's nickname will constantly change highlighting their chaotic nature. one panel they're enot then they're inv then they're paincat then they're sofanthiel then they're gorbo then they're blueberrycat- you get it

actually ill use a random number generator every time their name pops up. this is minimal priority but suggest enot nicknames.

current ones are: enot, inv, sofanthiel, paincat, thanksandrew, thanks andrew ( with a space ), gorbo, blueberrycat, ???, invenot ( one word )

VIGILANTE AU INFODUMP

There is a (outdated) relationship chart somewhere on both my deviantart and tumblr accounts but I'm too tired to link it.

Instead of the normal, canon anatomy for any of the characters, they are mostly humanized.

let me explain (studios) further:

Iterators are like bad sci-fi aliens. They have technicolour hair and forehead markings similar to those on their puppets in-game. Their ears are a bit more antennae-like.

Slugcats are a lot simpler. they have human facial features and skin tones, but their hair is more colourful.

Powers are another thing that are different in this universe. They are a normal thing and people usually have magic in one field or two similar fields. People with magic in two unrelated fields or more than two are rare, but not unheard of.

Scug powers:

Spearmaster - metal manipulation

Arti - Fire/explosion magic and plant/fungus magic

Survivor: telekinesis

Monk: Bard, prefers to summon electricity but can do other things.

Rivulet: Water/ice magic

Gourmand: Literally just the in-game crafting system

Saint: straight witchcraft. I will not explain.

Hunter - Healing/fleshcrafting

Iterators:

Pebbles: all i'm gonna say is weaponized depression. (if u saw the thing with Jaiden where she played DND with Ranboo and Alpharad with Charlie as the DM, you know what's happening.)

Suns - light/illusion magic. The colours of the lights they summon (both intentionally and unintentionally) are connected to their emotions.

Sig - magic tracker

Moon - still undecided, but prob something to do with more traditional magic depictions.

Sliver - SUMMON SWORD

In this Au, there is killsquad, roadrage, slivermoon and nightlight. Yes, I know having killsquad and roadrage at the same time in this situation is weird. Fuck you.

There is also some lagspike earlier on in the timeline. And because it's me, this wasn't good. This really fucked Spearmaster up :D

whatever the hell is going on in the rain world community, here's my two cents on the matter: the "all of the iterators are siblings" statement falls a bit weak and i feel as though people skew their fanon in with what we know through what little dialogue we get with the iterators.

Looks To the Moon being referred to as Big Sister Moon, to me, comes across more as an affectionate nickname that she came up for herself that the local group adopted.

HOWEVER, we only ever see her being referred to as and behaving sisterly strictly towards Five Pebbles, the one who she was assigned as his senior and developed that sibling bond with. them being built in such close proximity to one another also stands as reason to believe they have a closer familial bond than any of the other iterators, even those in their local group.

i do not believe Seven Red Suns nor No Significant Harassment fall into that familial relation with Pebbles or Moon, the iterators specifically referring to each other as 'friends' or 'peers' or something along those lines.

personally, i care very little for shipping in any fandom but i do not believe people should be getting so heated over character lore that is already vague enough as is. i see no issue with it so long as it isn't people directly shipping Moon and Pebbles with one another (or Monk and Survivor as those two are canonically siblings or at least related to each other).

this is a game about agender scugs trapped in the time loop stop tearing each other apart over headcanons/AUs it's annoying to watch.

EDIT: the situation seems to have resolved itself everyone go home. if i catch anyone harassing people over this still i'll bite your head off.

The lore of Ever Changing Fates is a total mess rn but it's very fun to just kind of mess with

I kinda like throwing ideas out there and just bouncing off people and seeing what they come up with lmao

The general deal is:

Fates is a newer generation iterator, probably around the same age as Pebbles. Long after the Ancients vanished, he kind of just went.

"Fuck it. Fuck all of this, I hate all of this. I hate being in a damn cage, look at that weird little cat. It looks happy. Why can't that be me? I wanna be a carefree little creature. >:(" (but in a more lighthearted joking way, as he always is.)

And then immediately proceeded to hatch the most unhinged plan and experimentation process ever.

As a result, his local group......... wasn't impressed. (I will detail more about his group later!)

He did not take the discouragement and lack of support well, and ended up isolating himself to continue his work without their constant messages trying to convince him to stop.

This totally didn't have lasting affects. Totally.

He succeeded, he managed to make alterations like the ear-like antennae casing (used to protect the fragile antennae, as well as used for communication and bonding with the scugs), and the tail (for storage of neurons and whatever else he may need).

Those went well. The removal from his can...... less so. (I do have some rough sketches of it, but I may leave it as a little surprise if I ever get around to writing a comic or little drawings as responses to asks maybe?)

Needless to say, as energetic and bouncy as this little guy is, he has some secrets he's hiding. And he probably needs to rest and take care of himself far more than he would like to admit

Lucky for him, he has his two scugs to take care of him!

They were originally designed as messengers, both with skills based on stealth to allow them to travel back and forth without having to worry about fighting predators much.

The white scug, inspired by white lizards, was created first; though after an injury, Fates created another to help; the black scug.

After seeing how dangerous the path was, he designed the black scug after a mole lizard to help it work best in a new path through the darker regions of his local area, which seemed to be less inhabited. It worked well!

And, after detaching from his can, the two sort of just became guards for him.

(They don't have names yet, but I'm slowly working on it!! Suggestions are totally welcome lol. I'm thinking "Light Refracted, Countless Hues" for the white scug? Not sure for the black scug though)

Aaand not only that, but there is another companion who joins Fates on his adventures!

So this is Silent Observation (a prototype design of them at the moment), an iterator oc my friend actually made!

For some info on them, Silent is an iterator who was not part of Fates' group, but a neighbouring one. Fates stumbled upon their can, and managed to convince them to join him. Silent isn't great at resisting curiosity.

Silent is an interesting little character, who is almost always mute after their vocal systems were damaged by a group of scavengers who tried to take over their can. Silent often uses overseers to communicate simple messages, and can still make little beeps and humming noises, but not much else. They CAN talk, and

sometimes do, though it is quite painful and tends to break and skip over itself. So, they usually let chatty Fates do the talking.

And yes. Gay robots. They're lovers and we've dubbed their little ship name as clairvoyance (yknow, perceiving (observing) the future (fate)? credit to my friend for that great name idea!)

So yeah, after Fates vanished, chaos ensued— is he dead? Is he alive? Is he hurt? Where is he???

And then the sightings began. Clusters of slugcats, rushing by. One always slightly taller than the rest, built slightly differently—with garments, clothing. Purple, in green robes.

It couldn't be...

Yeah, he became a cryptid. The talk of the town, if you will. I'm sure Unparalelled Innocence was LOVING the gossip.

Especially when reports of a second creature joined; antennae, familiar robes, familiar markings.

Imagine someone suddenly sprouts wings, teaches one other person to sprout wings, and then starts flying around in front of you.

Naturally, absolute chaos. It was like Sliver of Straw's death all over again—but instead of it being about death, ascension, it was about the opposite. Life, descension, yet freedom.

Groups were divided; Those who believed it was them, and they had found a way to free themselves. Those who did not believe it was them, but it was something to be concerned about, to investigate. And those who did not believe it was anything of note at all.

(Note: this is set in a sort of AU where they find a way to slow Pebbles' rot, to stabilize Moon to a certain degree, and the group is talking again but still. Not doing the best, panicking and trying to find ways to help the two. Fates' big background-event could be the lightbulb above one of their heads to suggest the idea of tearing Pebbles and Moon from their cans to save them from their own dying bodies. Thanks, Fates lol

This AU doesn't focus on the main group much, more just my OCs. However the idea of them interacting is very fun, and I'm sure Fates' actions reach back to the main group and begin an off-the-string streak or at least have some kind of big effects lmao)

But yeah! That's a not-so-quick rundown of the beginning of this little group's adventures. I'll probably share more and detail how their lives go, how their relationship is and dynamics and certain scenes I've written about them—if I receive more asks maybe I could even try a little interactive thing I've seen others do (though I am. not much of an artist so we'll have to see lol). Regardless, I am so grateful for the excuse to talk about them a bit and I'll probably add some more on the others in Fates' group later on >:)

It absolutely hasn’t started, I said I might do this, I haven’t even set up actual rules for how that might go anything, I was just thinking in my tags.

Also, one thing I might rule against is ships for Rain World. I have little interest in iterator ships, and even less in the slugcats. Sorry! I just don’t see the scugs like that, or the scav king, to me he’s a not really a character??? He’s a boss whose role is to die and that’s about it. I like when people give him a character, I think that’s fun, but I’m not so interested in him myself

Same goes for Hollow Knight, most characters I’d be interested in writing for are related or have an age gap, all a big fat no! If I were to write something for either fandom, it’d be something without shipping involved.

Eight Spoked Wheel, Necklace of Pearls

- does favors for ssh by collecting pearls/valuable historical artifacts from her city

- not an elite/chieftain scav, but very respected among its colony due to its closeness with ssh, who they view as a sort of god

The Harbinger

- similar to spearmaster, has no mouth and must use a modified tail to feed. however, instead of growing needles, its tail hides a single sharp point. it peels back protective/disguising layers of skin whenever it needs to feed

- has a star-shaped patch of fur on its chest, underneath which the pearl it delivers is stored. the flesh here is thinner and weaker but heals much faster to allow for the pearl to be replaced inside and carried somewhere else

- normal scugs, scavs, and lizards all distrust and fear it. pole plants and monster kelp don't recognize it as prey

- much bigger than the average scug

The Helping Hand

- ros's one-scug repair crew

- in exchange for shelter and food, it makes sure ros isn't in imminent danger from overheating/slag buildup/etc

- not getting paid enough for this nonsense

- ros talks to it a lot. it is very patient and listens

2: what character did you begin to hate not because of canon but because how how the fandom acts about them?

lan xichen my beloathed. like in canon i don't like him as a person but i do think he's a very interesting character, because flaws are interesting and especially flaws that foil main characters to show what route they might have gone down if they hadn't, say, had the example of an older brother who doesn't do anything and just fence-sits in every conflict to see why that would be a bad idea.

however the fandom doesn't seem to want to see that as a flaw in the first place, so they're not even operating from a 'lan xichen did nothing wrong' kind of point, where they at least understand that some people take issue with him but disagree; so many people act like it's just universally Understood that he's a good guy just because he's superficially nice and the least insane of the 3zun throuple. which really does him a disservice as a character, and other characters tbh considering this all means people cite his takes as if they're reasonable, but truly if i have to see one more piece of xichen propaganda i'm gonna throw something

3: you can’t understand why so many people like this thing (characterization, trope, headcanon, etc)

shipping in the rain world scene. like. the iterators i can unfortunately get behind just a little more since they are at least sentient, like i think the game makes it pretty clear they're siblings (big sis moon, ancients talking about their 'parental responsibility' to the iterators) and in my humblest opinion there is sadly little fiction that satisfyingly deals with familial relationships that i really don't want to interpret it a different way, however i can see the appeal.

but the slugcats. they are slugcats. they are canonically non-sentient (srs saying they didn't give spearmaster the mark of communication because it wouldn't be able to communicate back, just understand) and they literally cannot meet each other in canon. i don't even really see the speculative appeal of 'what if they were able to meet' cus they're non-sentient enough that they don't have well-defined personalities so. what's the dynamic. there isn't one. they are scugs. like you'd have a better time shipping scavs at this point cus they're at least sentient enough to have cultural norms.
