Actual footage of me still coming off my high from Rogue last night when I finally get round to listening to Echoes and the doctor mentions Chuldur in the first episode.

My favourite part of dot and bubble (besides ncuti’s performance in the last scene my god!!!) is that the episode kinda misleads you into thinking Lindy is so dismissive of the doctor and the disappearance of others because of the social media echo chamber she has isolated herself in. That she is scared to leave it and that she could be a better more empathetic person if given the chance to leave.
But then the final scene happens!
All of her actions, from putting Ricky in the firing line before her to lying about it to refusing the help of the doctor because of her thinly veiled racist beliefs, reveal that this refusal to acknowledge the reality around her to the point of putting people in danger and inevitably allowing the problem to become worse was a choice. She was not some innocent victim of media manipulation but had complete agency in her denial of the danger others were and just didn’t care about them.
The reveal is an important part of the episodes critique of social media echo chambers, I think. Their danger isn’t that they obscure information that challenges the users but that they allow people to choose not to be confronted with information that challenges their worldview or their behaviour. Which is an experience vital to developing critical thinking skills and being a compassionate, empathetic human being. But by removing the agency of people who choose not to break from their bubble, we also enable the insularity of these echo chambers!
God I love this episode so much <3_<3

The thing about the doctor and the master is that they both firmly believe “I can fix him”

does anyone else hate the trope/au where the reader is from our world and then falls into a fandom's world or character from a show falling into our world??? I just find it so cringe

Twelve, to Bill: “I’ve never had time for the luxury of outrage.”
Babes. Your tenth self existed in a state of outrage. I’m fairly sure that by the end, there was more outrage in his veins than there was blood.
Your ninth self spent every day trying to get over it. Your eleventh self spent half his energy trying to hide it, desperately trying to escape it.
Babe your next self? She will marinate in it. Simmer in it like a pot on a stove, ready to boil over. You will invent a fourteenth self that is a copy of your tenth because you are so angry, so outraged, that it has burnt through your very soul. It is killing you.
Your fifteenth- eighteenth? Twentieth? You don’t even know anymore- self will see that outrage halved. Not the power of it, but the volume. The duration. For the first time in eons, it will recede to a level you may have the time to manage. To use.
Maybe.

It apparently isn't entirely clear to a lot of people that the bubble in Dot and Bubble isn't your usual commentary on "social media bad" (Like yes it technically is, but not for the reasons you think).
While Russell's rushed metaphorical writing could be partly to blame, it is still fairly evident that the bubble is literally that a BUBBLE. An echo chamber of thoughts. A protective shell that the rich kids never have to come out of. It feeds them all the information they need and keeps them from thinking for themselves.
It's a commentary on how we are losing the ability to critically analyse and think things out for ourselves. And somehow, the misinterpretation of the bubble only gets the point across that much stronger.

Where's that post about it being good that 9 and Rose kissed because otherwise people would've been ridiculously obtuse about their relationship.
Thats just what its like being an irl twelveclara shipper. People truly have 0 brain cells to rub together regarding them, because they didn't mouth to mouth kiss on screen.
And I'm saying this as someone who loves the ambiguity of twelveclara and isn't a massive fan of the 9rose kiss. But alas when you are given ambiguity, people act stupid. So i can't help but wonder about the alternate timeline where 12 and Clara did have a snog

there was no true "phone bad message"
the people live in their own personal bubble, choosing who to interact with, who listen to, they refuse to look outside their bubble, they take directions from their personal bubble, even their city is in a bubble! a 'pure' society. It's about the racism, the colonialism, the indoctrination of the new generation to uphold the beliefs of their society.

rory in pandorica/jack in utopia. you shouldn’t exist you’re a fragment a figment a temporal displacement a walking impossibility. you came back from the land of the dead again and again for the one you love or something like it and they looked right through you with no warmth or recognition. your orpheus forgot to turn around. there’s a janky vortex manipulator involved. you’re at the edge of the universe and the only star left in the sky is the one that won’t recognise you
