i've still got a lot of problems with the rtd era but i will literally never stop talking about how warm the colour palettes in early nuwho were. so much modern sci-fi is sterile and minimalistic (which i understand considering it's a trademark of the genre), but series 1-4 felt warm and dirty and lived in. the set design wasn't always the best, but you could feel that the people had homes and lives before the doctor. rewatching it feels like coming home from a very, very long day and sitting in front of the fire and i love that so much

Just sitting here realizing the very weird and sad parallels between Rose Tyler accidentally ripping a whole in the fabric of time by instinctively trying to save her father from being killed by a moving car to years later having to be the one to convince Donna she has to go get hit by a car and die to save the multiverse.

I hope Pete’s Universe has really good therapists.

thinking about water symbolism, the meaning of the titular water in the waters on mars. time is referred to by many as a river (a brook), as a powerful current, flowing forever unstoppable. he says it to adelaide when the infected come: water is patient, water waits and water always wins. you can shock it with electricity and block it out with steel, but in the end the trickle always catches up with you.

imagine you’re the only person left that knows how to swim. everybody around you is drowning, while you — you can flail about in the rapids forever. but you can’t carry all of them out of the stream on your back. in the end, all you can do is watch. all you can do is float

I love Nerys so much.

We’ve seen her on screen once for like two seconds. But we still know so much about her. We know she annoys Donna but Donna is still frenemies (ish) with her.

And she gives us the knowledge that her and ten definitely gossiped about her in the TARDIS.

Full on “oh no she didn’t!?” Style and everything.

She’s also great for that callback joke in the 60th anniversary special and tbh, the only character that I can think of that resembles Nerys (in terms of we’ve heard of her but haven’t really seen her) is (I think) Shereen but even then she’s not exactly the same. We just got a few mentions about her being friends with Rose.

I’m terms of fic I think having a Nerys pov fic opens so many opportunities and can be quite a laugh. (I’m thinking about a christmas one that I read the other day)

TLDR - love to hate Nerys !

Just saw a post about Tentoo and Donna, and then it had me thinking. Do you think, in Pete's world, that it's possible Tentoo missed Donna so much that he found the version of her from that world, somehow managed to get a job where she works, and befriended her? And as he's partly her, she can feel a connection to him that she can't explain, and they quickly become that weird duo everybody knows around there and when Donna loses her job (spills coffee in the computer), Tentoo quits (he basically just follows after her as she leaves the office insulting everyone), and they start working for Rose (Tentoo gets Donna in, but he didn't need to, cause Rose just loves her), and when Tentoo and Rose get children, they make Donna the godmother to the first one?

Personally obsessed with how the version of the Doctor that Rose gets with is not the original guy but the one that has a sprinkle of Donna in him. Not just a sprinkle actually, a lot of Donna. And if in the past there were already people who could tell that Donna would be part Time Lord at some point it makes me think that Rose seemed to like Donna a lot both cos she had a bit if the Doctor in her but also because the version of the Doctor Rose gets with has a bit of Donna in him.

My conclusion is thus that Rose and Donna should have had a little bit more of a thing there.

For callback reasons absolutely no other reason.

I'm doing an episode bracket for Doctor Who! The highest ranking episodes will be put up against each other! I'll probably have to split up the results in half, but we will see how it turns out!

The Tennant specials are getting included in the eventual Special Bracket.

a lot of people talk about love don’t roam being about rose which, sure, obviously, the first time i heard it in the runaway bride and recognised the lyrics i cried, but what people don’t mention nearly often enough is that my angel put the devil in me is more than just a gag tune for tallulah’s showgirls to perform at the cabaret. it’s a song from the perspective of martha.

that’s essentially the plot of smith&jones. the little streetcar is the tardis

referring to the fact that ten kept promising martha ‘one last trip’ before he dropped her off. then another, and another. hey, it don’t have to be eternally, because he’s not the kind of guy to stick around…

davros’ admonishment in journey’s end: the doctor may be a pacifist who never carries a weapon, but he turns everybody around him into soldiers. martha’s no exception; she holds the osterhagen key. ten may be her guardian angel, but her traumatic experiences while travelling with him harden her spirit, and by s4 she’s working for UNIT. she was an ordinary medical student and he put the ‘devil’ of adventure in her, just like any other companion

now this one’s pretty self-evident. cold grey eyes and a simple smile. guile and charm and mystery. whisked her away like a witch on a broomstick. one and one and one: three hearts between the two of them. or maybe ‘three’ is martha, the doctor and the tardis. or — worse — martha, the doctor and rose.

the fact that the song is playing during this scene in the end of time also casts its meaning in a different light: jack has been radically transformed through meeting the doctor just like martha was. from a conman and a coward to an unlikely hero. jack shoulders the burden too. so many lives upended because of this bad bad angel. don’t make crowley jokes
