My sweet #adorablechihuahua Zsa Zsa is not doing well and is declining very quickly. We think she has hydrometria. (Sp?) She isn’t eating very much and you can see all her ribs and bones and she is very lethargic and can barely walk. Erik took this picture on Saturday. She has been a loving, caring and sweet companion to our family for close to 15 years. I haven’t had much time to cuddle with her much since I went to the hospital and we brought #AntonMataeo home, I do feel bad about that. Please be praying for us as we have begun to grieve and have to probably make some difficult decisions. Please pray for Zsa Zsa to not be in pain. In High school or maybe it was middle school… but I remember we sang this song called “All Things Bright and Beautiful” The lyrics are pierced into my soul and this morning it came to mind. Theologically, I am not sure if “all dogs go to heaven” but i loved that movie when I was a little girl, so I do hope so. I know in my heart God created dogs for humans to love and receive unconditional affection. I also know the Bible mentions all of creation worshipping God and it describes beasts In heaven. Are you ready for more accessibility? ⤵️

Previously I discussed image alt text and many of you had questions, which I love to answer!

Since then I have learned a bit more about accessibility, largely in thanks to @retiredguidedoglilabean, specifically in regards to the differences between image alt text and image descriptions in the caption.

To recap, image alt text is a concise image description that is only “visible” to screen readers.

(It is also though that image alt text feeds into the mysterious algorithm.)

Many of you asked why this did not show up in your caption as you’ve seen the [Image Description] in mine.

These are two different things and it is most helpful if you can do both.

Why? Simply, not everyone living with vision loss uses a screen reader because they’re not the most user friendly.

However, just because someone is able to read your caption does not mean that their vision can process images.

While the image alt text should be concise, the image description can be a bit longer to paint a picture, but please remember that you are paining a picture - not a gallery - and keep your description to 125 characters or less.

(I also like to put a tiny bit of personality into my image descriptions, which I learned from observing @melissau’s account.)

What do you know about Lyme disease? ⤵️

Today we are helping our friends @rubyandrenzo to turn Instagram green for #LymeDiseaseAwareness in honor of their human and our friends @a.great.doggy.day.

According to the @globallymealliance, Lyme disease is an illness caused by the bacterium Borrelia burgdorferi, carried by the backlogged tick. If not diagnosed or treated early, Lyme disease can develop into a chronic illness that leads to long-term, serious health problems and reduced quality of life.

Did you know that dogs can get Lyme disease as well as people? We spray both myself and my human with @Wondercide when we hike, but we also regularly check for ticks.
