Honda Prelude 2.0 Si, 1985. Relatively late in the second generation Prelude's model life it received Honda's 1,958cc B20A DOHC 16-valve engine that elevated the car's performance to a level never previously achieved by the model. The hood had to be modified with a bulge to accommodate the motor. This generation of Honda's cars used wishbone front suspension which allowed low frontal profiles.

Recorded 9 months ago at Abrahams Garage, I finally have a computer strong enough to edit the footage I captured of an Abarth 500 engine being built with a true DOHC euro-spec valvetrain with a big turbo and all the supporting mods that goes with it. The next video goes into full detail about the car and the many upgrades done to support this monster of an engine.

DOHC 426 Hemi
Chrysler 1964-65 doomsday device, a DOHC 426 hemi. Never produced, never run under it's own power. As soon as NASCAR heard about it, all overhead cam V8's were banned in 1966. After the ban, this engine was no longer needed.

Very rare in Australia Mitsubishi Galant FTO GSR. These are a short wheelbase version of the Galant. This one has been in Perth for a number of years and I recognised it as soon as I saw it pull up. Motor in this was a 1600cc 4G32 dohc from a Galant GTO MR when I first saw it. I didn't get any new engine bay pics this year so added old pics of engine, interior and rear.

me just now finding out that in the early 90s(?) bmw developed a dohc 48v v12 called the m72 to replace their sohc 24v m70 v12, but canceled it because it supposedly had too much nvh for a luxury car and made the sohc m73 v12 instead:
Tumblr media
we could have had a normal dohc bmw v12.
before all the direct injected variable valve lift nonsense of the n73 happened in 2003.
but no.

Can I do this to you Mr douably? (Also idk if I spelt that right)
Doherty, my last name is Doherty, which is pronounced dohc-er-tee; not do-hurty or doe-er-tee or dow-or-tee. WHY CAN NO ONE EVER PRONOUNCE MY LAST NAME RIGHT? >:U
As for touching me, I would advise against it unless you want to get clawed to shreds.

40 years ago the future looked like this MG EX-E Concept, 1985. Revealed at the Frankfurt Motor Show during a period when MG weren't making sports cars, the EX-E sparked speculation that the Austin Rover Group (who owned the MG brand) were going to enter the supercar market. Their mid-engined concept was based on the MG Metro 6R4 rally car with a 3 litre DOHC 24 valve V6 and was designed, by a team lead by Roy Axe, for production. However ARG lacked the capacity to put the EX-E on sale and a commercial case could not be made to do so, so the project was abandoned.

The **Chrysler 1964-65 "Doomsday Device"**, also known as the **DOHC 426 Hemi**, is one of the most intriguing "what could have been" engines in automotive history. Developed by Chrysler in the mid-1960s, this engine was a radical departure from traditional designs, featuring a **dual overhead cam** configuration on the iconic 426 Hemi V8. The "Doomsday Device" moniker comes from its sheer power and the fear it instilled in competitors.
Despite its groundbreaking potential, the **DOHC 426 Hemi** was never produced or run under its own power. Chrysler’s engineers designed it to be the ultimate racing engine, pushing boundaries of performance, but just as word of this beast spread, **NASCAR** swiftly intervened. In **1966**, they banned all **overhead cam V8s** from competition, effectively killing the engine’s racing prospects and ending its development.
With the **NASCAR ban**, the **DOHC 426 Hemi** was no longer necessary, and Chrysler abandoned the project. Although it never turned a wheel in anger, its story is a fascinating chapter in racing and engine technology—proof that some innovations, no matter how groundbreaking, can be lost to history due to outside forces.
