This is my second attempt at a BJD doll. There are no 1/16 scale dolls for sale so I decided to try to 3D print one.

It was a jumble of limbs and everything needed to get sanded and primed. Once that was done I spend a good portion of my day looking for tutorials on how to string all the parts together and make eyes.

At times I wondered what I was doing in Biology class since what looked right at first try at to be redone. The eyes were a nightmare, but I think I finally solved that problem too. After placing the eyes I put the first coat of flesh color on and the doll is now hanging in the studio to dry.

I will post new photos of the progress tomorrow. The day ended on a good note with lots of things accomplished !

Hello! I’m back with another doll making tip. This time it involves black fabric and white glue. That was usually a recipe for disaster, until I discover @decoart Sosoft fabric acrylics. Just glue your piece as usual, let it dry and apply a coat of black paint over it. It’s like magic!!! Just finished my 1st tiny BJD doll. The hair was I incredibly difficult and leaves a lot to be desired. This is a prototype and I learned tons of things as far as what can and can not be done at this scale. Considering that the face is about the size of my thumbnail, there is very little room to work with. I do like that the arms and legs are fully posable and I am making plans for some tweaks on the next doll. Some people only add animals, some lots of people and others prefer their room boxes to be empty. I think it depends on the theme that is being displayed and the feeling one wants to convey. For now I just want to get the doll making bit down and then I can decide when and where to add the dolls. Stay tuned more dolls will be coming.
