Omen IV: The Awakening (1991) dir. Jorge Montesi, Dominique Othenin-Girard. 7.3/10
I wouldn't recommend this movie to my friends. I wouldn't rewatch this movie.
You're telling me that that stranger just gave away his dog? What is it about demonic things that animals are wary of? You'd think that the anti-christ would be more subtle about being the anti-christ. Also, what real gain is there in killing the father of a built for the anti-christ? Just because you can?? I feel like world evil is so much bigger to be focused on these small fries. Okay, but why does Delia not have the birthmark?
Jerome and his parents are bitches.
It's kinda baller of mom to be so down to kill.
Honestly, I thought this doctor was very weird. Like physically. I hate that the investigator just died. I don't want us to die just from becoming affiliated.
Hearing this song in the Omen always gets me.

Movie Review | Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers (Othenin-Girard, 1989)
Tumblr media
Scattered observations:
We know Michael Myers’ mask has been through tough times, especially between the first and second movie when it spent a few years under chainsmoker Debra Hill’s mattress, and here, its hairline has noticeably receded. Time comes for us all.
Donald Pleasance does five movies’ worth of ranting and raving in this instalment.
Wendy Foxworth wears a zebra print denim jacket. Later, she puts on a cape and goes as a sexy vampire for Halloween. She also bears a strong resemblance to another actress whose name escapes me at the moment. She was my favourite part of the movie.
There are kittens. They were my second favourite part of the movie.
One of the teenagers goes as Michael Myers, which seems in poor taste given this town has experience multiple nights of mass murder at his hands. This is mostly used in the service of multiple fakeouts. At least the guy practices safe sex.
After the rather painful looking violence in the last movie, the kills here seem rather neutered. There’s a scythe kill that should be fun in theory, but is only seen in silhouette.
Comic relief comes courtesy of a pair of bumbling policemen, one of whom is played by the “Helsinki, Sweden” guy from Die Hard, who are accompanied by goofy music and admit that they’re bad at their jobs.
There are stylish moments, like the anti-pumpkin violence montage of the opening credits, and the scene where Danielle Smith runs through hanging laundry to flee from Myers as the frantic editing and music is piled on, but otherwise Dominique Othenin-Girard lacks the sure hand of John Carpenter or even Dwight H. Little.
Aside from the goofy scene where Myers takes off his mask to cry, this exists in an unhappy medium where it isn’t good enough to actually be good, but also isn’t bad enough to be fun. Enough people were awake at the wheel that no audaciously terrible elements made it into the finished picture (aside from that one scene). There’s nothing like the Busta Rhymes performance from Resurrection here. So while you won’t feel insulted watching this, you won’t have a lot of fun either.

Top Halloween (Michael Myers) Movies of All Time 2022 List
In 2016 I did my Top 5 Halloween Movies list. It began an annual tradition on Halloween of me sharing my Top 5 List of a horror movie series. In 2017 I did my Top 5 Nightmare on Elm Street Movies, in 2018 I did Top 5 (Night of the Living) Dead Movies, in 2019 I did Top 5 Evil Dead movies, in 2020 I did Top 5 Hannibal Lector movies and last year I did my Top 5 Scream movies. It is now time for me to do my first ever revised list and revisit the Halloween movies. Since 2016, there have been three new Halloween movies including the most recent Halloween Ends, which I recently got to review. It got me thinking it’s time to revise that list. There have been a total of 13 Halloween movies. Here is my ranking of the Top 5 of the 13 movies:
5. Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers (1988)
Tumblr media
This began the story arc or Myers returning for his 7-year-old niece. Some big scares!
4. Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers (1989)
Tumblr media
The Myers-on-the-hunt-for-his-niece story line continues here. I saw this in the theater (my first Halloween movie I saw in a theater)!
3. Halloween II (1981)
Tumblr media
What made this such a great sequel is that it picks up exactly where the first one left off. Like literally - the last scene of the first one goes into this one and it takes place on the same night. Also - Carpenter did not direct, but he co-wrote it.
2. Halloween (2018)
Tumblr media
Setting the reset button on the franchise and ignoring all of the Halloween movies after the 1978 original was a bold move, but it was the best one we’ve seen since the original!
1. Halloween (1978)
Tumblr media
The Sgt. Pepper of horror movies! This is better than all of the other 12 Halloween movies combined! Also a great example of how creative you can get on a low budget!

“Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers” (1989)
Directed By: Dominique Othenin-Girard
Galaxy Releasing
Poster:
Tumblr media
After his two weeks of filming, Donald Pleasence (Dr.Loomis) gave his young co-star Danielle Harris (Jaime Lloyd) his much bigger trailer. This was because Harris’s mom was complaining about the small size of Danielle’s trailer. So, Donald Pleasence decided to give her his once he left set.
Pleasence left the set so soon due to him being committed to another film. So, all of his scenes were shot first in that aforementioned 2 weeks.

Engagement with Asia Vieira
Asia Vieira continued her story about the filming of the movie "Omen IV: The Awakening":
"It was a really fun project to work on. Even though I was a child, I felt like I was part of something big. Director Jorge Montesi, who replaced Dominique Othenin-Girard almost at the very beginning of filming, was very strict, but he helped me grow as an actress. And even though I didn't understand all the aspects of filming, I understood that this was an important moment in my life".
Anton, with even greater interest, asked:
"What was interesting about your life behind the scenes during the filming of this movie?"
Asia thought for a moment, her gaze becoming thoughtful:
"Well, I remember how every night after filming I was worried about everything getting right. But it was an amazing experience that opened my eyes to the world of cinema. I learned a lot, and thanks to this film, my career took off".
Anton listened to her, amazed by her story. He never thought that his chance meeting with Asia could lead to such profound revelations.
"You know, I always admired the way you played your part", he said sincerely. "And now that I hear your story, I understand even more why you did it so well".
Asia reached across the table and took Anton's hand, her eyes sparkling with gratitude.
"Thank you, Anton. I am so pleased to hear such words. It really means a lot to me".
They continued to talk and share their stories, and the evening passed unnoticed. With each new word and revelation, they became closer, and Anton felt that his dream of being a part of Asia's life had become a reality.
The next day, Anton and Asia agreed to meet in a park that was not far from their previous meetings. The park was especially beautiful on a sunny day, with green trees, blooming flower beds and small fountains emitting a pleasant sound of water. The evening weather was warm and calm, which added to the romantic mood. Anton arrived at the meeting a little early and prepared a surprise in advance. He brought a bouquet of fresh flowers, which he had chosen with special care. Holding white roses and delicate tulips, he waited at the main entrance to the park. The sun was shining on his face, and he nervously tugged at the flowers, waiting for her to arrive.
Asia approached him with a slight smile on her lips. She was dressed in an elegant summer dress that emphasized her natural beauty. Her eyes lit up with joy when she saw Anton.
"Hello, Anton", she said, hugging him. "What a beautiful bouquet!"
"Hello, Asia", he replied, handing her the flowers. "I wanted this day to be special".
They walked around the park, talking about their plans for the future and sharing their impressions of life. Gradually, their conversation became more personal, and Anton felt his heart beat faster with excitement. When they reached a picturesque clearing, Anton suggested that they sit on a bench under a spreading tree. There was determination and persistence in his eyes.
"Asia", he began, "these days we spent together were the happiest in my life. I never thought I would meet someone who would change my perception of the world so much".
Asia looked at him tenderly. She felt that she was experiencing something special herself.
"Anton, I am also very happy that I met you. You have become a support and a source of joy for me".
Anton stood up and, slightly unsteady with excitement, took a small box with a ring from his pocket. He dropped to one knee in front of Asia, holding the ring in front of her, sparkling in the sunlight.
"Asia", he continued, "I want to spend my whole life with you. You are everything to me, and I hope that you will allow me to be your companion in this life. Will you marry me?"
Asia covered her mouth with her hand, her eyes filling with tears of happiness. She looked at the ring and Anton, and could not hide her emotion.
"Anton", she answered with a trembling voice, "I have never been so happy. Yes, I will marry you".
Anton, overwhelmed with happiness, slowly and carefully put the ring on Asia's finger. His hands were shaking with excitement, and he noticed how her eyes were shining with happiness. As soon as the ring was on her finger, Anton stood up and hugged her with a joyful smile. Their bodies merged in a tight embrace, and at that moment, everything around seemed to freeze. Their hearts beat in unison, as if they were always made for each other.
Asia pressed herself against him, her breath felt on his skin, and both felt that this trembling moment marked the beginning of a new chapter in their lives. Nothing could disturb this idyll – they were absorbed only in each other, and everything that was happening around seemed unimportant.
To celebrate their engagement, they headed to a romantic restaurant located on the shore of the lake. The evening lights that reflected off the water gave the whole place a special magic. The restaurant was enveloped in soft candlelight, creating an atmosphere as if time had slowed down especially for them. Light, almost invisible music, smoothly flowing from one chord to another, enveloped them like a soft blanket, making the atmosphere even more magical. They sat at a table by the window, from where a magnificent view of the lake opened up. The waiter handed them the menu, and Asia smiled when she saw that Anton had chosen the most expensive champagne for them.
"You really prepared something special", Asia noted as they raised their glasses.
"Of course", Anton replied, "this evening is important for both of us. And I want it to be the way you always dreamed of it".
They began to discuss upcoming plans and dreams while enjoying an exquisite dinner. Asia was excited to share her ideas on how they could spend their time together.
"I've always dreamed of a house by the sea where we could spend our holidays", Asia began, taking a bite of her fillet. "We could just get away from the world there, enjoy the sun and the sea".
"That sounds perfect", Anton agreed. "I've never thought of such a house, but if that's your dream, I'll do everything to make it come true. We could set up a small studio there for your projects, so you could work in a comfortable environment".
Asia beamed at his words.
"I'd love to do that. And we can make it so that we have space for creativity and for relaxation. I've always wanted our home to be a place where you can feel truly at home".
Anton took her hand and gently squeezed her fingers.
"What about our own traditions? I've always imagined how we would celebrate holidays and important events together".
"We can start creating our own traditions", Asia replied, "like having coffee together on the veranda every morning and having romantic candlelit dinners in the evenings".
They continued discussing their plans, each time adding something new and interesting. Each of their suggestions showed concern for each other and a desire to make their life together as happy as possible.
"Remember how I talked about our honeymoon?" Asia asked when they finished the main course.
"Of course", Anton nodded, "you wanted to go somewhere exotic".
"Yes, and I thought it would be wonderful. A place where you can forget about all your worries and just enjoy each other".
Anton stood up, smiling, and extended his hand to her.
"Then let's plan it right now. Where would you like to go?"
Asia thought for a moment, then answered with a smile,
"Let it be a place where we can start our new life together".
She suddenly noticed a familiar figure crossing the restaurant. It was Ryan Donowho. She sat up to get a better look at her ex-boyfriend, and her face paled a little.
"Anton, look, it's Ryan", she said, her voice full of surprise and excitement. "I'll go try and talk to him".
Asia walked up to Ryan, who was looking at her with obvious irritation. She tried to remain polite, but there was a note of worry in her voice.
"Hi, Ryan", she began. "It's been a while. Anton and I are celebrating our engagement, and I thought it would be nice if we talked".
Ryan Donowho didn't answer, his gaze full of contempt and anger. He seemed not to notice Asia, turned around and quickly left the restaurant without looking back. His steps were confident and sharp, he clearly did not want to stay there a second longer. Asia returned to the table with a look of relief on her face. Anton looked at her, his face breaking into a smile.
"Look at you, what a coward!" he said cheerfully. "I couldn't even stay and watch us celebrate".
Asia smiled back and sat back down at the table with relief.
"Thank you for supporting me", she said, her voice sincere. "Now we can continue our evening without any unpleasant surprises".
Anton took her hand and they walked out of the restaurant and, refreshed by the evening air, stopped at a street lamp. Asia, noticing that Anton had pulled his phone out of his pocket, suggested:
"Let's call your dad and tell him about our engagement".
Anton nodded and, a little nervously, dialed the number. The phone rang for a long time, and finally his father's voice was heard.
"Hello, who is this?" Andrey Anatolyevich answered, clearly unhappy that he was woken up.
"Hi, dad", Anton said when his father finally answered. "Just a word".
"What, son, have you gone completely nuts?" Andrey Anatolyevich muttered. "I heard you're up to some crazy stuff in Canada".
Anton tried to stay calm:
"Dad, this is serious. Asia and I have decided to get married. I understand that it's unexpected, but… I wanted you to know first".
"Get married?" Andrey Anatolyevich asked, surprised. "What are you saying! How is that possible? I thought you were just there temporarily, and not serious".
Asia stood nearby, her face serious and calm. She looked at Anton and, noticing his tension, gently touched his hand.
"Yes, dad", Anton continued, "we really did make this decision. I..". and he fell silent, apparently struggling with his nerves.
Asia, without waiting for Anton to get to the topic of conversation, decided to intervene and picked up the phone from him.
"Hello, Andrey Anatolyevich. This is Asia, your son's fiancée. He and I just got back from the restaurant, and we have important news. Anton proposed to me, and I accepted".
There was silence on the phone. Andrey Anatolyevich took a breath, trying to comprehend what he had heard.
"Oh, so that's how it is", he said, not as angrily as at the beginning of the conversation. "Listen, has my son completely gone crazy? He went straight to Canada and started an engagement with you there?"
Asia interrupted softly:
"Andrey Anatolyevich, Anton and I have plans. We decided it was time to take steps forward. We would be happy to see you at the wedding in Canada".
Andrey Anatolyevich could be heard sighing.
"Okay, since that's how it turned out", he said, softening slightly. "But I won't come, I don't have a visa. But I ask you to remember that I won't be able to be particularly happy after all this".
Asia smiled and handed the phone to Anton:
"Your dad wants us to be happy. Everything will be fine".
Anton sighed with relief and thanked his father for his support, then they hung up. They got into the car with Asia, and although it was already late in the evening, they were full of joy. The car glided along the evening streets of Toronto, the city lights shimmering outside the window.
"Everything is so wonderful", Asia said, her eyes sparkling with happiness. "You know, Anton, you're going to live with me now. I can't wait to start this new life together".
Anton looks at her, his eyes filled with gratitude and happiness.
"This is incredible. I'm so glad it all worked out this way", he pauses, then adds, "But first, we need to stop at the hostel so I can get my stuff. I can't leave it there".
"Of course", Asia nods. "Don't worry, we have time. We'll do everything".
The car is moving towards the hostel, and Anton decides to use this time to call Dmitry. He takes out his phone and dials the number.
"Hi, Dmitry! It's Anton", he says when his friend answers.
"Hi, Skovant, the fat mutant! How's your evening?"
"Great! Asia and I are engaged, and we have a big update", Anton says, his voice full of joy. "The wedding is happening!"
"Wow, congratulations! This is amazing!" Dmitry exclaims. "What are the plans?"
"We're going to celebrate it in Toronto. I already told my dad, but unfortunately he can't come. He has visa issues. But if you can come, that would be great".
"I understand", Dmitry replies. "It will be easier for me to get a visa than it was for your dad. I'll try to organize everything so I can make it to the wedding".
"Great!" Anton beams with relief. "I'll send you all the details as soon as everything is ready".
"Okay, I can't wait. Let me know if you need any help".
"Absolutely, Dmitry. Thank you!"
Anton ends the call and puts his phone away. The couple pulls up to the hostel, and Anton gets out of the car to collect his things. Asia, sitting in the car, eagerly awaits his return, filling the space with anticipation and happiness.
