people always joke about how zuko did one good deed and immediately fell into a coma and i getttt why that situation can be seen as funny (i think that joke's funny too ok) but seriously speaking i personally i think him falling ill after freeing appa is not bc of him "doing something good for the first time" (which is not true btw🥴) and it's more bc of him not just doing something that goes against everything he's stood and fought for for years but also being directly told by his uncle to do something that goes against everything he's fought for for years. bc let's be honest, yes, iroh has tried for some time to send zuko hints that chasing the avatar is not "his destiny" or whatever but that's basically all he did until that point. he still helped him with his mission for over 3 years. he helped him chase the avatar, gave him tips on how he could find him, he even helped him directly attack aang when he escaped the first time. like to me it seems like zuko always thought that, yeah iroh may not be too happy with him chasing the avatar but that the chase after the avatar overall isn't actually wrong. and why would he even think so? cause for so long to zuko iroh was a retired successful general of the FN and the literal dragon of the west, a title he got after laying siege on ba sing se. zuko did not know that iroh actually started opposing the war which he previously passionately fought for, so why would he think that iroh opposed the chase after the one person who could stop the FN from winning this war?

so correct me if i'm wrong cause maybe i'm forgetting something but until the scene where he's about to go after appa iroh has always helped him and supported his mission for years (or thats what it seemed like to zuko at least). and then zuko has the perfect chance to finally fulfill this damn mission and all of a sudden the person who's the closest to him and who has stood by his side so far tells him that this is not his destiny? iirc that's the first time that iroh explicitly tells him so and not through some vague proverbs which zuko has already told him he does not understand. sorry but that must have felt like a punch in the gut.
