A tentative kiss - from kiss roulette!
[Prompt list here. Warning for Shadowbringers spoilers.]
The Crystarium was raucous in celebration. It seemed like everyone was imbibing in food and drink and merriment. While Akira was as happy as the next person that she hadn't turned into a horrible monster and killed everyone, she was still a little overwhelmed by everything that happened, and so had sought out a quiet balcony overlooking the festivities to enjoy from afar, a gentle smile on her face.
"Akira?" She heard a voice behind her and turned to see G'raha, a little beat up still but standing under his own power again, sheepishly hesitating at the top of the stairs. She smiled and nodded her head towards the space next to her, inviting him closer.
"I noticed you weren't celebrating with everyone and wanted to make sure you're okay," he fidgeted with his hands as he settled against the rail where Akira was leaning. "Are you? Okay, I mean?" She glanced down at everyone below, face pensive.
"I will be," she finally answered. "Listen, I... I really appreciate everything you've done for me." Akira hesitated, nervousness almost getting the better of her.
"Once before, I loved someone, and I waited far too long to tell him. And I feared I'd nearly done it again." She felt more than heard his reaction, remembering how just calling his name had brought him to tears. "It scares the hells out of me to think about letting myself love and something happening to them, but I think I've decided that I'd rather that than more years of longing and regret. So, if you are amenable to it, would you..." Gods, why was this so difficult to just spit out? She picked at the scales on her hands, trying to swallow the lump in her throat.
"If I...who do you think I was talking about on the cliff?" the words tumbled forth with a giddy kind of laugh, and she glanced over to see G'raha's ears flattened out to the side sheepishly as he glanced over at her, bangs partially hiding his bright red gaze. "Amenable is perhaps not a strong enough word for it." Akira huffed a small laugh of relief. After a brief moment of hesitation, she reached over and took his hand, glancing away with a shy smile as she heard him quietly sputter in surprise, as if they hadn't just been discussing their relationship. After a few moments, she heard G'raha clear his throat.
"Would it be okay if I," he paused, then tried again. "Would you like to-" He cut off again, ears flat back uncomfortably as he struggled with his words, face almost as red as the roots of his hair. She couldn't help her small chuckle, turning fully to him and taking his face in her hands, taking a quick breath to steel her nerves and pressing her lips to his.
For several long moments, he didn't react, and she began to panic. Oh gods, was this too sudden? What if he wasn't ready? Hells, I already made him cry just by calling him by his name, now I've gone and messed it all up. She pulled back, lifting her hands from his face nervously. His eyes were big and his ears standing straight up in surprise.
"I- I'm sorry if that was too sudden, I-" but he cut her off, hand tangling in her short, burgundy red hair and pulling her back in, pressing his lips to hers like he would die if they were apart for one more moment. Akira's hands clenched in his robes, pulling him closer. When they finally pulled apart, their foreheads pressed together, breathing the same space in the quiet.
"This is going to sound strange," she panted. "But I'm kinda glad you got shot before you could run off to the rift."
"Yeah," he closed his eyes, pulling her against his chest and resting his cheek on her head. "Me too."
