Ch 1: Hell's Graveyard Shift Is Run by Interns

Summary

When Hell fails to notice Crowley’s Very Good Deed, he is left in an Edinburgh graveyard trying to navigate a world tilted by laudanum. Fortunately for him, Aziraphale has no intention of leaving him to fend for himself. Fortunately for both of them, Crowley's compromised brain-to-mouth filter leads to a far more enjoyable evening than they expect.

Crowley stared at Aziraphale through a long, drunken pause during which his brain's temporal lobe made an admirable effort to process Aziraphale's words. It was mostly unsuccessful, but it could hardly be blamed for the visual cortex hogging all of Crowley's attention.

“You're so lovely!” He loudly blurted out with a toothy grin, before continuing. “You're like…glowy. Twinkly? No, 'bright’, probably. Oh I know the word- beautiful! You're beautiful. Beautiful Angel. Oh! And when you smile like that it's even better!”

The above image is brightened a little.

The sideburns are still pointing to Crowley's mouth. That's what they tend to do when Crowley is not in the mausoleum during this minisode.

The space itself is within a human space with many lit candles at night. Crowley both sits and stands during the scene. All three characters do not wear hats during the entire scene. Both Crowley and Aziraphale are no longer wearing gloves.

Here is a comparison picture between the last scene and this one, also brightened a little.

The curls on Crowley's right side of his head are more defined in this space than the last.

Earthly Objects

Aziraphale's vendetta against the backs of chairs has activated, so there's some extra thing in his chair that he has his back to, that's not in the other chairs.

Both Aziraphale and Mr. Dalrymple sit the entire time.

Crowley stands to pick up the container Mr. Dalrymple indicates with a tumor inside.

Each character touches a glass of whiskey during the scene.

Aziraphale touches the container with the tumor after Crowley passes it to him.

Mr. Dalrymple says the name, "Dr. McFell."

Aziraphale has questions with, "I'm sorry?" and, "But if you're in such dire need of bodies, why not dig them up yourself instead of making the poor and the desperate do it?"

Mr. Dalrymple has a question with, "Seriously, though?"

Mr. Dalrymple addresses Crowley as, "Doctor," which might qualify well enough for a name substitute as a title.

Crowley has a question with, "Well, in my professional opinion, that seems to be... I say that seems to me a... um... well, what do you think?"

Mr. Dalrymple has a number and a question with, "If you two smart gentlemen can't identify it, then what are my students to make of it?" Then he has another number with, "I removed this tumor from a seven-year-old boy. "

Aziraphale has a question with, "And...is he...?"

For pockets, I won't log it all here, but I'll share at least the following:

Aziraphale is visually pocketed between chairs when it's shown that the back to his particular chair is different.

Crowley is briefly visually pocketed between candles when he stands.

Story Commentary

(For reference Post #26 (my side)) The scene starts with Aziraphale looking at the drink in hesitance.

Much like in the A Companion to Owls minisode, the camera itself is making specific choices about what it shows when it comes to drinking alcohol. Mr. Dalrymple is shown finishing taking a drink when Aziraphale is asking him about digging up the bodies himself. When the scene finishes, as Mr. Dalrymple is about take a drink, the camera cuts away before the drink actually enters his mouth.

Crowley is heavily implied to be drinking. He raises his glass when saying, "More murders! I'll drink to that!" He raises it again in agreement with Aziraphale about the item in the jar not being a foot. He reaches for a bottle filled with more. However, the camera never, ever shows him in the actual act of drinking.

I think this minisode is supposed to match Pestilence of the four Horseman of the Apocalypse, given the context of Mr. Dalrymple talking about the tumor.

Present Day Aziraphale

Let's check in on Aziraphale's side of things with the forming connection.

I'm not going over the entire scene, just a few parts.

As Aziraphale parks, or more likely the car is parking itself, the car is shown to have acquired its new extra doors in its transformation.

Aziraphale also shows the interior of the driver's door has changed.

He wears a hat with a "66" on it. Is he trying to be a demon beacon?

He uses a pocket for his notepad and pen.

The road looks different from when he walks across the street to the road shown as he arrives closer to the pub.

When he arrives at the pub, he finally sees the barrel next to the jukebox. The drawing of Gabriel he shows is different than the one the story has shown him working on. This drawing shows a turtleneck and looks more like Gabriel did when Aziraphale last saw Gabriel in season 1 at the air base.

With a look to the pub sign after exit, we are taken back into the minisode.

Since before space and time as we know it existed, Aziraphale has been trying to protect others. Whether warning other angels against what he thought might get them into trouble, giving a weapon to humans cast out into the wilderness, trying to save souls or averting the apocalypse, he will do what he believes is right.

Even if it means putting himself in a dangerous situation, Aziraphale has a moral compass that guides him, and sometimes risks himself rather than go against his personal beliefs.

A natural risk taker, he can sometimes come across as brave and other times as foolish, but to overlook his intelligence puts others at a disadvantage. In the pursuit of knowledge, Aziraphale is willing to alter his viewpoints if he learns new information that has the potential to help others.

When his former boss shows up unexpectedly, Aziraphale is worried that Gabriel doesn’t have anyone to help him, even though he was the person who tried to permanently destroy Aziraphale with hellfire. When he finds someone in need, no matter who they are, he wants to help, no matter the cost to himself.

Aziraphale honestly believed he would be thrown into hell for saving Job’s children, yet chose to do it anyway. It was what he thought was right and remained steadfast in his convictions.

Ch 2: “In this honeysuckle grove…” Summary

Crowley, still rather off-his-head on laudanum, makes a lovely discovery in their surroundings, and shares it with Aziraphale. There's more to this graveyard (and this demon) than Aziraphale realized.

Excerpt

With a lilt of curiosity which always led Crowley to excitement, (excitement being the only logical thing for curiosity to lead to, after all), he ruminated, “Ooohh I know it, I know this one! It smells…it smells…really sweet and nice, like …well, like you, angel, you always smell really sweet and nice. But I already know what you smell like and this isn't that. So…..”

Crowley squeezed his eyes shut in almost painful concentration. “OH! I know! I have it!” Crowley jabbed a finger in Aziraphale's direction with great finality, and declared confidently, “It's…Whazzitsname!”

Having made himself perfectly clear, Crowley grinned smugly at Aziraphale then proceeded to look for the source of the smell.  Prickly blades of grass needled their way closer to his scalp as he let his head fall rapidly side to side. Unable to really focus on much with head lolling at the speed of laudanum, he stopped when the world began to spin faster than planetary physics allow. Only then did some of the visual input catch up to the processing part of his brain. “Wait, I think I saw it!”

Crowley moved his head more cautiously the second time around and stopped when he found Aziraphale to his right. (That was very distracting. Does Aziraphale know how distracting he is?) Crowley smiled over his glasses, “are you wearing whazzitsname-perfumed soap, Aziraphale?” Aziraphale blushed, and the slate of Crowley’s thoughts wiped itself clean, replacing the previous jumble of scribbles with a perfectly rendered recreation of Aziraphale's irises in which Crowley was swimming. Crowley's singular attention meant he noticed when Aziraphale's eyes drifted out of focus. “Crowley, is it a plant you're talking about?”

In the three minisodes we get someone calling Aziraphale:

Intelligent (Okay, Crowley says it mockingly, but he came up with the rib birth plan on the fly in front of a host of heaven!)

English (And she's right, Dr. McFell!)

And (Rudely): Gayer than a treeful of monkeys on nitrous oxide (and please ... the theater, the feather boa, etc?)

so! what is aspenville about? how many characters are a part of it? uhhh do you have any faves you'd def ike to talk about or is it free for all?

UUUuhhh hehehee OKAY ->

-so Aspenville itself is basically this fictional town that most of my ocs live in so whenever I refer to it its like the aspenville universe. Umm originally it started out as a comic i wanted to write in high school, but it’s turned into this very complicated tangled Thing in my mind

-The basic synopsis of Aspenville is this horror-comedy set in a small touristy town that ppl visit just to camp out in their state park. It revolves around the interlocking lives of the characters as the town turns into a semi L*vecraftian nightmare

-So there are quite a few characters that are apart of it!! So it started with Margot Miniati (she/her) and Norman Baer (he/him) . Norm owns a shitty supernatural museum and Margot is his assistant.  Umm there's Blaire (she/her) who is a demon that possessed Evie Choi at a sorority party. Then there is Darby McFell (she/they) and Thomas Caraway(he/him), who are park rangers at the Aspenville state park. Darby is v weird and gets a little murdery throughout the story. Darby is margots partner and sorta pulls margot into her stuff. AND THEn there is Dr. Georgia Hyde (she/they) and nurse Posy Ringling (she/her). Dr. Hyde is um kinda a murderer adsfds and Posy is infatuated with them. And the last ones r Laika Evjen (she/her) and her Dad Jon Evjen (he/him) Laika is a recent college graduate whos moved back home with her single dad Jon whos a writer. 

- I need to actually draw all of my ref sheets but i always get distracted lmao but if u ever have questions about any characters in particular feel free to ask I'm always thinking about these guys
