Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
╰┈➤ MASTERLIST. NAVIGATION.
╰┈➤ CARMILLAS NOTES: aww tysm!! seward is so real tbh without him n mina nothing would’ve gotten done also forgive me for any mischaracterization this is the first time i’ve written for him
╰┈➤ WARNINGS: dracula (hes his own warning)
Tumblr media
rahhh when he proposes it’s in more of a remote area without any people around except for maybe some friends
he’s very sincere and heartfelt while he does it
the millisecond you say yes he’s taking you out to celebrate
i feel like seward isn’t a big fan of going out, but he’ll do it for you
he spends a pretty long time planning the wedding because he wants everything to be perfect and will genuinely tweak out if something is off even a little
he also goes over the details with you a lot to make sure it’s exactly how you want it
especially in the month leading up to the wedding he’s really stressed and it’s extremely obvious because he’s very overworked
being a doctor about to get married in victorian times isn’t easy
so you have to get him to take a break and calm down for a few days before letting him go back to working
when the day actually comes though and everything is ready and you’re actually at the alter he’s the calmest he’s ever been since planning it started
it’s genuinely the best night of his life and he’s so happy everything went perfectly
even if it didn’t he didn’t care in the end because he was still able to get married peacefully
becomes the most overprotective husband in the world
he’s not overprotective in a controlling or possessive way, more just if you’re going out he’d prefer to come with you or have someone he knows with you
he’d probably also would absolutely refuse to take the ring off, even if he’s showering or going to bed the ring is staying on his finger
he thinks it’s wrong for him to take it off, especially in public because he is married and he doesn’t want the wrong attention from anyone
also prefers if you keep yours on as well, but doesn’t force
he just politely asks that you try to keep it on your finger as much as possible but is very understanding if you have to take it off for whatever reason
if you get married before dracula comes to england and seward knows he’s a vampire, the overprotectiveness becomes much worse
and he once again becomes extremely stressed out
if you’re going on a walk, he’ll be coming with you, if for whatever reason you want to talk to renfield (??) he stays in the room just in case
basically because he’s a bit paranoid (and rightfully so) you do almost everything with him there and if it’s something that needs privacy he’s never far away
if dracula takes a step closer than ten feet seward is there within a split second and ready to do whatever he needs
after dracula is killed and they get back from transylvania, he becomes much more calm again
god forbid you get married while dracula is in england itd be horrible
he might call the wedding off altogether for both of your guys’ sake
his love language is acts of service and he loves doing things for you
it would’ve happened a lot before you got married but even more afterwards
he’s not a very skilled cook but he starts to learn how to get better and cooks for you three or four times a week
will also hold open doors, pull your chair out, just regular things a decent man would do
he’s not very picky with your love language and i think he wouldn’t really care what it is, but he’d have a soft spot for gift giving
no matter what you give him he will cherish it forever and always keep it in a special place
he’s very caring (but a little avoidant) when your sick, like he brings you whatever you ask for and nurses you back to health, but he himself doesn’t want to be sick so he stays away if he can, even when you guys are married
but he also becomes clingy when he’s sick so he’s a bit hypocritical
he secretly likes doing your hair for you
if you ask him to brush it for you he’ll act like he doesn’t want to but he never ever says no
if you have longer hair he likes to braid it before you sleep and if it’s shorter he likes just brushing it
if you have no hair he likes helping with your outfits instead (if you have hair you can wear whatever you want as long as it’s not like barely anything cause it IS the 1800s)
he will feel so bad if you guys have a fight
it most likely happens in the weeks leading up to the wedding when he’s especially stressed
he’ll take accountability and be able to acknowledge that he was in the wrong for yelling at you because he was stressed and immediately asks how to make it up to you
overall he’s a very caring husband who would do pretty much anything for you while still having his boundaries

Talking
In which Virgil is a teenager and Roman answers some long awaited questions.
The stars gleamed in the sky as a dark clad figure laid on the roof to stair, but not to admire the beauty.
He was deep in thought, and this concerned his vampiric father. His little Moonbeam was worrying himself about something, but trying desperately to hide it.
"Virgil?" The figure jumped, nearly rolling off the roof but was stopped by chilled strong hands, "I didn't mean to scare you Moonbeam, are you okay? Did I hurt you?"
Virgil stared at him with alarmed confusion, "No pops, I'm fine..."
Roman sat next to his youngest, "I'm sensing a but in there."
Virgil inhaled and looked away, "Why did you and Dad adopt me? I'm noone special, I understand Patton. He was everyone's dream kid, but they'd drop him if he mentioned a brother..."
Roman tilted his head, something Virgil learned was a habit of his thinking the right words.
"Well I'll be honest, we wanted a child. Patton wouldn't come with us without you, so we decided to check you out first. Werewolves and Vampires have a sense of longing for family, but we're extremely picky." Roman paused again before finding the right words, "When we met you, we felt complete. We basically had Patton, but you completed the family."
Virgil felt a small smile, it seemed that he had asked Logan and both gave the same answer.
"Pops?" This was the timid question.
"Yes?"
"Were...was there a time...did you-"
"You want to know if I ever wanted to drink you two's blood?" Roman answered with an amused look.
At his son's nod he chuckled, "Virgil, I have never allowed myself to get that thirsty. I would never hurt you or your brother."
Roman hugged his human Child as gently as possible, mentally reminding himself that he was small and fragile.
Goodness did he want to give his children a big bearhug.
"Now come inside, we have a lake to visit tomorrow." With that, Roman led his child to his room. Despite knowing full well he wasn't going to go to sleep immediately.
"Pops, you didn't answer my question though."
Roman flinched, "Well, Moonbeam, yes. There were a few instances. Not to hurt you or anything, mostly just marking."
Roman helped his son through the window, "Marking?"
Roman made a noise that Virgil has dubbed the "Wasn't ready to explain this" sound, "I... I'm what you call, a Count."
"Like Dracula?"
"Kind of like Dracula, when a Count takes a human into the family they tend to Mark them to keep track of them. Like-" Roman wracked his brain for an explanation.
Virgil seemed to catch on, "Like a chip in pets?"
Roman nodded then frowned, "You are our sons, not pets."
Virgil nodded as Roman continued, "I never completely satisfy myself and I never let myself get too thirsty, a satisfied Count is a dangerous Count. The way I use to be...it scared me. I hunted for sport, I've killed for no reason, I never saw my actions as wrong until the day a Hunter attempted to kill me. All I could think was, is this how they felt?"
Roman slid to the ground and Virgil sat next to him, knowing that his Papa goes through memory lane and sometimes needs a presence of someone to calm himself down.
By the time Roman calmed, Virgil was dozing in and out.
Roman lifted him up and carried him to his bed, slightly brushing his hair from his face.
Swearing not for the first time to never harm his family.

anon message from curious cat: you seem to have a really lovely grasp of horror. can i ask for any favorite books, movies, etc? music, maybe?
hello, anon!!! wow, thank you for saying that! horror is a favorite genre of mine, for sure!!!
i don't read a ton of books, tbh; i am very very very picky, i suppose. but some horror titles that have stuck with me have been House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski, Come Closer by Sara Gran, Dracula by Bram Stoker. i read a lot of Anne Rice as a kid/teen, and although she's definitely a vampire mommy, her revisionist version of history is extremely cringe, so i don't tend to add her to my lists. but she does get credit for my obsession of heartbreaking longing.
as for movies, i have to deliver this nonsense under a cut because i thought of so many favorites! a lot of these are not in English lol.
i am a huge vampire fan and i love A Woman Walks Home at Night, Interview with the Vampire, Dracula, and even Queen of the Damned (it came out when i was a teen and it is absolutely iconic to me lol.) also Blade, Lost Boys, Buffy the Vampire Slayer (the movie!)...so many great choices. for anything involving witchcraft or lore that seems witchy in nature (including folk horror!) i love The VVitch, Blair Witch Project (shout out to Book of Shadows, the goofy, unhinged sequel that i adore), Valerie and Her Week of Wonders. Huesera: The Bone Woman, The Queen of Black Magic (2020).
i really enjoy hauntings, like the Paranormal Activity films, and Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum. i don't like zombies at all, but Train to Busan gets an exception. the v/h/s films have their moments (i think 1 is the best.) i don't fuck with aliens lmao i get TOO unsettled. slashers like Scream and Climax are fun, and the Fear Street series. gosh, this has gotten long haha. i really like horror. and for TV shows, Sweet Home is so good!!! if there is a specific genre you would like me to go into more, lmk because honestly, i could just keep chaotically word vomiting on the topic all night. my lists are LONG.
also, does anime count? Perfect Blue for psychological horror and slasher, Tokyo Ghoul and Devilman Crybaby feel like they might fit? tbh Evangelion feels a little like psychological horror but that might be a stretch.
music-wise, i do like some goth music, but i don't listen to a ton of it. but if you want something cute and unsettling, i have been revisiting The Birthday Massacre while writing. and i am going to try to put together a fun creepy playlist for Carnival of Terror, which may scratch this itch a little more, down the line.
i am going to cut this short but please reach out to talk all things horror again, if you would like to!!! 💜💜💜
got something you'd like to say to me on anon? send it here!

top 5 pieces of vampire media!
oh god oh fuck autism beam
5. vampire academy but only from a worldbuilding perspective. i really love the rich interweaving of vampire folklore and mythos that went into the series especially with the undertones of class dynamics which imo is pretty cool for a YA series to undertake. i do think they’re not great narratively and are probably actively harmful given the 17 year old protag’s love interest being um 24 and also her teacher
4. what we do in the shadows :) silly time in my enclosure
3. dracula specifically because it’s such a cornerstone to modern vampire literature. like obviously carmilla/the vampyre were the first pieces of anglophone vampire fiction but no one has really . read them, at least in my experience academically. my supervisor hadn’t read carmilla until like a year ago and he’s one of the most well read people i’ve met - but he had read dracula, and my thesis advisor knows the most about dracula, and hardly anyone knows anything about the others. and just personally it isn’t my fav but it holds such a special place in my heart
2. carmilla kind of sucks but it’s never left my brain neverrrrrr i can’t ever stop thinking about the dialogue or the how this could have been such a perfect piece of longform fiction
1. the vampire chronicles - stop help i can’t articulate this well. ummm. my favorite thing about tvc is that anne rice didn’t need to cut the vampirism with humanity except when it was through the eyes of the vampires themselves. like louis is the it girl because he’s soooo human and every vampire wants to hit that because they think it’s sexy and different and delicious the way a human would view vampirism. if that makes sense. and even with devil’s minion that’s supposed to be a character defining thing for ARMAND, not daniel really, because in tvc vampirism is the assumed base of morality/feeling/art/relationships etc. like. hi :)
i am extremely EXTREMELY picky about what vampire media i consume and i always have been - i’ve never seen the vampire diaries or true blood or whatever and i was only into twilight in elementary and middle school … the moment my mom passed the anne rice torch to me it was game over for everything else lol but i suppose an honorable mention should go to hemlock grove for largely the same reasons as vampire academy however i think vampire academy just cared a little more about history :P

LGBT+ VIBES I GET FROM THE SUPERNATURAL CHARACTERS:
Castiel: Was a butchy, corporate straight woman named Cassandra who realized at like 40 that he’s actually actually a greysexual (or maybe just really focused on the grind) gay dude. Absolutely SLAYED the sexy corp lady look, so people (including he himself) had a hard time buying that he was actually a gay dude. Parents internally threw a fucking fit when he came out but buffered their own rage and instead opted for unhelpful words like “it’s just a phase” “we’ll love you even if you think you’re a man” and shit like that. Had to get financially independent and get his own hormones and surgery. Sometimes steps out in a sexy goth lady look (because he likes to remind himself he can still be sexy as a woman if he wants to) and makes poor Dean’s heart (and dick) explode.
Crowley: Was an extremely unconvincing pansexual ““woman”” who knew he was actually a dude since like first grade. Parents could NOT get ““her”” in a dress to save their LIFE. Moved out and lived the goth gay bear life the SECOND he turned 18. Getting T was hard because he liked to splash all his cash on fancy alcohol despite being a broke youngster.
Dean: Was the local hot butch lesbian until he realized he’s a bi dude. Didn’t even have to change his fashion sense. Was initially worried about liking men because he was afraid it would make him seem like a woman, but decided to overcome it when he saw Castiel being a sexy gay trans man. Decided to do more plastic surgery than T because he was hella picky about how he looks. Made some of his former lady lovers realize they’re bi when he transitioned into a hot guy. Still has his pretty plump girl lips and fluttery lashes 💋❤️‍🔥🥰😍
Sam: Cute, supportive cishet guy who will end up liking a guy or two and having a crisis about it, spending hours and hours researching the entire queer history of the world and all the terms to ever exist until he realizes he’s just heteroflexible. It makes all the gay guys cry in despair when they realize he’s not gay because who doesn’t want a nerdy beefy tall guy with an adorable face?
Bobby: Confused but supportive cishet dude. Dean was worried he’d be right-wing so he payed close attention to his possible political stance. Breathed a sigh of relief when he realized he’s just a Libertarian. Bobby banged a dude once when he was young, enjoyed it, but realized he still is in fact straight. Never talked about it because he’s totally chill about it and he literally forgot.
Death: Invented the gay deadly goth aura. Dracula, Hannibal Lecter, Wednesday Addams, and all the other queercoded goths who slay absolute cunt got their energy from him. Crowley got some of his energy from him. Castiel got some of it too, but his parents yelled at him for wearing “scary” clothes too many times so he decided on a more conservative, corporate style.
That cop lady (I forgot her name): Bi woman. Nothing more, nothing less.
Ellen: Everyone thinks she’s gay but she actually is, in fact, a straight lady.
Jo: Likes girls (and Dean because he’s a cutie).
Lmk if I forgot any of the major players!

Hawks, fatgum, aizawa, and present mic with a s/o whose a famous author and writes their favorite genre? Gender neutral if possible. Headcanons please? Thank you for your time
Considering I already have a few works with Hawks and my three characters per request rule I'll be doing only the last three characters for this request. Specially since Hawks already has quite the list. Hope you like it! 🖋💖
Fatgum / Taishiro Toyomitsu:
This may be a bit ironic, but his favorite genre is probably Crime fiction.
Your books became one of his favorite because of the dramatic factor you abuse so much along with the sudden cliffhangers that leave everyone on the edge of their seats and craving for more.
Poor Amajiki and Kirishima got startled twice when their mentor screamed from his office after finishing the first two books of one of the current best sellers. The third time neither of them batted an eye.
"That book again?" "...Yup"
The whole agency can't help but laugh their heads off when their boss starts calling his s/o to talk about the book. He's actually upset because you killed off his favorite character.
Whenever the two of you have a petty argument? the best way to shut him up is threatening to spoil the next book for him, that works like a charm every time. Not that you'll ever do that to your favorite lector.
He definitely has every single book of the saga, all of them signed by you at the start of the book.
Taishiro wouldn't stop crying when you gave him the whole hard cover limited edition of the whole saga for his birthday.
If that doesn't make him bawl the special mention you make about him at the end of the last book definitely will.
He'll be the first person to throw a fit in the book ever gets turned into a movie and the director starts making way too much changes.
"What do you mean the Detective and the Serial killer are secretly in love?! They hate each other to the death! Did you even read the book?!"
Shouta Aizawa / Eraserhead:
I think Aizawa would actually be a fan of horror book, but more of the classical ones like Oscar Wilde's The Picture of Dorian Gray, Bram Stoker's Dracula, etc.
It's hard for him to find a book he actually enjoys, being extremely picky in what book he'd spend a good portion of his time reading. This means he's a great help when you're having trouble writing.
The first time you showed him the draft for your newest book he was pretty silent, reading paragraph after paragraph with a keen eye for detail.
When he realized it was something close to the type of book he enjoys it makes him secretly eager to see what you come up with, and his advice is to helpful that it almost feels like you're talking to you editor.
In fact, whenever Shouta helps out said editor is more than pleased and would mentions there's barely need to make so many changes.
Once the book's finally published he's the one receiving the very first copy.
You know Aizawa's enjoying the book if instead of taking his beloved naps he's sitting on the couch in the middle of the lecture.
You may have to take the book away at night, otherwise he'll pull an all-nighter reading it whole.
"Shouta it's 2:00 am, you better put down that book or so help me" "Just one more chapter" "You said that a hour ago!"
He's that type of person that reads while walking, and somehow manages to avoid crashing face first into a post.
You bet that once he's done reading it he'll start asking if you're writing another one soon. In the meanwhile he'll keep reading the first one over and over again.
Hizashi Yamada / Present Mic:
I see this guy as "secretly" being a fan of romantic novels, and whenever someone catches him reading one of these books he'll start claiming Midnight forced him to read it.
Deep down he's a hopeless romantic.
He'll certainly try to pull on some of those romantic but cheesy quotes or moves from the books.
Once you show him your latest book he'll be so hooked into it he'll start talking about it on his radio show unconsciously.
"I thought Present Mic's station was about music? when did it change to books reviews?"
Think twice if you think this little move won't make the sales of your book skyrocket dramatically.
Hizashi will definitely fight anyone who talks trash about your book, or at least he'll try to, unless either you or Aizawa hold him back.
"Say their book are trash, I dare you Uncultured swine!"
Everyone in UA can hear him yelling in excitement when he gets the news that the next chapter is already in progress, and once you're both home he'll make sure to support you however you need, a drink? a snack? a small break? just name it and he'll be there in an instant.
Hizashi won't mind going to buy the book the day it's finally published even if the book store is filled to the brim with people, or if he has to fight for the last copy like he was in the middle of Black Friday.
His guilty pleasure as a teenager was probably hush hush.

I was wondering if you could do more of your general hcs for Bubba (movie) and Brahams? They’re my two favorite and I love your hcs from earlier!!
Of course! Thank you so much for the ask and I'm glad you like my Headcanons! I hope you enjoy!
More General HC's
Bubba Sawyer
As expected, Bubba is a die-hard fan of country music, but more so of the classic nature. Some of his favorite artists include Dolly Parton and Johnny Cash
Bubba has a gigantic sweet tooth; this man would only eat desserts if he could. He is very fond of homemade apple pie with a nice cold glass of milk(yuck...) However he also likes vegetables, in particular, steamed broccoli and baked potatoes, heavy on the butter.
The calico cat I mentioned in my other post is lovingly named Sweetpea(most likely by Bubba's s/o aw) Despite Drayton being insistent on keeping her outside, she always manages her way inside, specifically, in Bubba's room, curled up on one of his pillows. Drayton gives up after a whopping 5 days of trying to keep her out.
Bubba is a true romantic at heart; he desperately craves having someone as his own to love and care for. Because of this, he is extremely vulnerable to one-sided love(on his side) in particular.
As for favorite movie genres, Bubba enjoys family-themed ones such as The Goonies, The Princess Bride or any of the Disney Classics(he is, however, very fond of Bambi.) As for those he doesn't like, he hates sad movies. After watching Marley & Me, he had been traumatized for life.
Brahms Heelshire
It's pretty obvious that Brahms has more 'dignified' music taste as he does enjoy classical/opera music. However, he does enjoy a occasional musical as well, the most notable being Les Miserables
Brahms has a very specific taste pallet: that being only fish sticks. This may be indulgent, but Brahms is very picky and the only food he'll eat without complaint are fish sticks. Don't even try to buy the vegan/tofu ones-he will know.
Brahms is a very silent individual that you never hear him coming, unless, he wants you to hear him. He is also for theatrics, and is quite the prankster. He really gets a kick out of the scaring the absolute shit out of people.
Brahms, understandably, isn't quite sure of what he wants in terms of a relationship. Given that he had been living within walls for a lifetime, he doesn't quite understand how normal relationships are to work. Because of this, he often acts without cause, and changes moods like the flip of a coin.
Brahms, being the absolute drama queen that he is, lives for period dramas. He enjoys seeing fancy sets as well as exquisite costume designs, so movies like Bram Stoker's Dracula and The Book Thief are his go-to. Brahms cannot stand comedy, especially Adam Sandler.

Vampire and vampire hunter Dimitri?????? Please??????
Ooooh the feral boy! I'm going to split this between pre and post time skip as well because I feel like (unlike Edelgard and Claude) he genuinely changes his whole deal after the time skip so I feel the situation would be different.
Dimitri💙🦁💙 Vampire/Vampire Hunter AU
Vampire
Pre time skip
Probably very ashamed of being a vampire, but doesn't hide it.
Most likely will only feed off of people he knows well and who have talked it out thouroughly with him.
If his s/o offered for him to feed? Probably he'd be extremely flustered, but it would take an extremely long time to convince him. He doesn't want to lose control and hurt you.
Most likely to keep to a group of friends who are also vampires. Not likely to reach out to humans, mostly out of fear of hurting them.
Post Time Skip
Way less reluctant to feed when hungry, and not nearly as picky. Probably would feed without permission to stay alive.
A recluse. If you venture into his home its your own fault.
Basically Dracula in Castlevania tbh
If he had a human s/o he might get intimadating at times. He would also put a lot of space between them when hungry.
He's sort of known for losing control when feeding.
Vampire Hunter
Pre Time Skip
If the Vampire he's hunting is flirty and not a particular trouble maker, its incredibly easy to fluster him.
Most likely became a hunter to avenge his parents.
Ok but Dedue being a vampire that Dimitri protected from another hunter?? Like??? Yes????
Has mercy if vampires arent causing problems (Dedue and Ashe?) Probably gets help from those vampires.
Post Time Skip
Mercy? Who's that? Never met her.
Not hesitant in taking out vampires if they cause trouble
Vampires who cause trouble already get bad things coming to them, vampires who hurt the helpless? He doesn't bat an eye hurting them
If his s/o became a vampire it'd really fuck him up
Would still be close to the vampires he spares though. They would be extremely loyal already, but probably wary whenever he comes to visit.
The only vampire who knows for sure that he is in no danger would be Dedue.

Hemlock Grove: Silly, Gory, Netflix Filler:
The last thing I was looking to watch was another vampire or werewolf drama but there was something about the Twin Peaks meets True Blood set-up, alongside the scare powered production credentials of horror director/actor/producer Eli Roth, that made me curious about Hemlock Grove. All twelve episodes of season one dropped April 2013 on NetFlix but in my world though it failed to net any of the buzz of say House of Cards or Orange is the New Black, I discovered Hemlock Grove long after the fact but it seems just in time before season two. Lack of an instantaneous fandom is not necessarily an immediate reflection on the quality of a show. It's all too easy to get lost in the binge watching shuffle of the current tv buffet. Many a tv gem has taken their time to build to a critical mass of appreciation; case in point Breaking Bad and Orphan Black who eventually met popularity on the slow audience build. However, by episode two of Hemlock Grove I realized just how narrow the demographic of whom it might appeal to really was. Someone will appreciate it though especially camp horror fans who like their gore mixed with a little or a lot of silly.
Based on the novel by Brian McGreevy, the story about a creepy family in a creepy town is well-tread territory, and Hemlock Grove is an unabashed mash-up of Dark Shadows, True blood and Twin Peaks. It wears those inspirations as much on its sleeve as it does inspirations from Poe, Lovecraft and Shelly. And it's the later that Hemlock Grove really is the 2014 spawn of with its gothic tones and grisly horror matched by broody model pretty teens, deceitful adults and lots of mangled bodies.
Things open with the horrific murder of a local girl, and it lets us know we're in for a pretty gruesome ride. The story unravels slowly though, and it really isn't until the third episode that the body is discovered, and the stakes are raised. Until then we spend a lot of time becoming familiar with this small Pennsylvanian town, its sinister residents and the moody melodrama that makes up town life.
Famke Janssen plays wealthy widow Olivia Godfrey, who one character calls the “most despised woman” in town. Famke plays her as a Jessica Rabbit meets Maude Addams femme fatal who slinks around dripping with lots and lots of mystery; the biggest of which is where her accent could possibly be from. It might be British, maybe it's Eastern European; whatever the intention it was an interesting choice by Janssen. I’m still not sure if it's bad acting or a genius character move but everytime she opens her mouth with another"dahling"it kind of stops me in my tracks. By the time they delivered the obligatory flashback, it made just as little sense. Part of Olivia Godfrey's infamy comes from being a major shareholder of the "nobody knows what the hell goes on in there" Godfrey Institute of Bio Medical Research. She is also busy carrying on an affair with one of the Institute's other shareholders, Norman Godfrey, played by Dougray Scott, who is the married brother of Olivia's late husband, who had committed suicide after the birth of their third child.
Olivia's sexy creepy gene is quite evidently passed on to her broody chain-smoking man-child son, Roman Godfrey, who she is just a little too close to. Played by Bill Skarsgård, another one of Stellan Skarsgård's offspring quick on his brother's heels as a sexy bad boy with vampiric tendencies, he does a good job of inhabiting Roman’s perversion and compassion. We know tow things about him from the get go: he has a kinky bloodlust, and he loves his sister dearly, a deformed giant who speaks through her smart phone. Roman eventually fosters a kind of bromance with town newcomer, lone wolf Peter Rumancek. Played by Landon Liboiron with Lili Taylor (always a welcome site) as his hard-living nomadic mother. Peter's friendship with Roman actually provides one of the most interesting relationships to watch on the show if not on tv in general. And it is their Scooby Doo meets Supernatural adventures that brings everything to a head over the twelve episodes.
Somehow connected to it all is the mysterious Godfrey Bio-Medical Research Institute that is so mysterious even owner Olivia doesn't know what the hell goes on inside. To her credit she admits she doesn't really care. Who does know is creepy head-scientist Dr. Johann Pryce, actor Joel de la Fuente - who just oozes mad scientist under his too polite bureaucratic persona. The rest of the cast includes Battle Star Galactic alumni, Kandyse McClure as the hard drinking god fearing wildlife/monster hunter Dr. Clementine Chasseur, and her fellow former BSG regular Aaron Douglas as the thick-skulled town sheriff and father of two perfectly bitchy but funny twin daughters.
Hemlock grove unravels at a slow pace, and characters often say I feel like something is about to happen and so too does the viewer. All the creepy violin music, the forboding stares and threatening vibes inevitably do devolve into a more talk than action type of story-telling. On a better written show like True Detective, where the sinister atmospherics and eccentric characters get equally compelling verse, it can work. Hemlock, however, trips over its own dialogue, which is disjointed and clichéd at best. One character actually alludes to the lycanthropy of another by saying, “One had to step in before things got too hairy.” Really!? At least there was some sense to made of the line for all its punniness unlike the stream of consciousness that produced, "There are dreams sir that you wake up with teeth marks and then there is the smell of coffee.” If you know what that means, please leave in the comments below. It seems odd to get nit-picky by lines of dialogue but in Hemlock Grove's defense the nonsensical nature of the writing is actually what kind of makes it fun to watch.
Hovering between the youthful face of CW and the skinmax lite of HBO, Hemlock Grove wanders less down the road of Twin Peaks or True Blood and more into Once Upon A Time meets Edgar Allen Poe territory. While it sets out to tackle the super compelling theme of the monster within, by half way through the first season it devolves into a hypothetical what if Dracula, the werewolf, and Frankenstein's monster all went to high school together. An r-rated Smallville for horror fans, by the time the story stumbles into crazy town by episode eight. which indulges in way too many dream sequences, the mounting nonsense accumulates to the point where either you succumb, sticking around out of sheer curiosity to just what kind of crazy will happen next, or you turn it off.
Being a child of Eli Roth who found fame as the father of the Hostel franchise, you would expect gore, and it happens only so often but when it does face ripping and intestines spilling are par for the course. Hemlock Grove has received some well-earned note for the best screen refresh on werewolf transformations, which Roth admits was American Werewolf in London inspired. Overall though things are really more gory than scary, and if it's horror you're thinking about, the dialogue is a far worse offender.
Series composer Nathan Barr and Lisa Richardson as the music supervisor do a good job cementing the soundscape, which swings between sub woofer throb intros, mournful violin cues and completely left field song choices. It actually fits quite well with the kind of moody cray cray camp that Hemlock Grove is. Doing to Gothic horror stories what One Upon A Time does to fairy-tales but in a far sexier, and if you believe it even sillier fashion, Hemlock Grove is just weird enough to cut it for a rainy weekend binge view or horror filled pre slumber night cap.
Overall I'd say A for effort but C for execution giving it a in 2.8 out of 5
Trigger warning for rape, extreme cat danger and teen romance

Castlevania review
I played the game before, read the lore, and even looked up every piece of information there was to the games and characters. I ended watching the Castlevania Netflix series out of reluctance because I grew to care more about the games. I have become extremely picky about animated/movie adaptations of any series I enjoy - especially if I have read the books, or written works of said series. I honestly didn't expect myself to enjoy the Netflix series of the game and I was so angry at the fact that this series was so short! I was so hyped up to see what could happen and what tale would unfold but it just got cut off and I was pissed. The animation is gorgeous, the colors are pleasing (but there's allot of blood so if you don't like that don't watch), and I like the character designs. I liked Dracula but I love his son Alucard (yes it follows that specific story) more but his wife - not gonna spoil that - even more since she was just a good person who didn't deserve what happened to her has a soft spot in my heart. I loved the detail in the monsters/creatures, as well as the character designs. The females weren't shown in skimpy outfits (thanks), their was variations in character designs (even in the locals) and the females we actually strong which is like a breathe of fresh air. There was sass in these female characters and it was funny. So far I looked the series, and was pissed when it was cut off short. What kind of season only has 4 episodes - that is my only complaint. I really liked the characters, the monsters and what is going to happen in the story. I want more of this series. I recommend it to people who played the games or enjoy seeing lots of blood, monsters and the old unholy being vs church in general.
