A remake of my Fenris remake because I didn't like how the armor in acts 2 and 3 looked similar to Hawke's armor so I made some changes

I like and dislike at the same time that in Dragon Age 2 we can't change the armor of our companions, but I think it would be interesting since we can't change it, they change their armor according to the acts of the story

Act 1

I imagine that during his constant state of fugue, Fenris hasn't had time to actually change his Tevinter armor or anything like that, he just hides and camouflages what he wears with capes.

Act 2

He lives in Danarius' mansion and is finally able to get new clothes in Kirkwall. His hair ended up growing a bit since a different appearance would help him blend in even more among the people.

act 3

Danarius and Hadriana are dead, Fenris no longer has reason to hide or to fear that someday someone will show up to take him back to Tevinter. Now his hair is longer than before and he wants it that way because he likes it that way... For the first time in years he can finally want something

A few years later, you get to get your ass kicked by a hole in the sky. You're ripped away from your life back home. Goodbye, cushy job doing what you love. Goodbye to your family you already found, having each other's backs back in the days when Hawke and their crew practically ran the city, you among them.

You were happy. So.. fucking.. happy. After everything you had been through, you made it. Finally.

Until you didn't.

In a sea of unfamiliar faces, in a place you haven't yet traveled.. You've got Varric. The one person that sort of feels like home.

You can't write back to your friends, what would you even say? "Sorry I never came back from that job I was supposed to do, I got mixed up in an apocalypse, and now I have to save all of Thedas"?

How do you possibly explain that?

So now you aren't a background character. Congratulations, you've made it to MC status. Watch as it fucks up everything you worked for.

Somehow, though, it's almost worth it when you're gathered around a table playing cards with your second family.. Varric slides over a letter, and it's signed by everyone back home. They're coming to visit. Suddenly, you don't feel so divided. Everyone important to you is going to be in one room, and the two places that you call home are going to feel like one, if only for a few days.

Funny how everyone I romanced in Dragon age always has items thinking of their lovers.

I like to think they look down at the items (before given to their lovers) and think of them and how special they are.

Alistair thinking how wonderful and beautiful the warden is.

Fenris looks at Hawk's favour and thinks how special and amazing lucky he is to have Hawk in his life.

Cullen is thinking of inquisitors. Though the coin was a gift from his brother. He sees this lucky charm and thinks about how lucky the inquisitor is (surviving everything thrown their way). How lucky he is to have met her. Maybe give her his lucky charm to give himself a safe mind that she will always return to him.

Drawing my favorite dragon age man for the first time. Crazy how i never drew him after 10 years of knowing the series.

The rendering is not finished but i honestly dont know if i will finish it. I preffer the sketch on its own. Should i finish it?

Name Etymology and Fenris

So Tevene is basically Latin, even with the borrowed Greek words. I'm a Classicist, so Fenris' sword having a proper name that sounds Latin-esque haa bugged the shit out of me. DA draws a lot on actual Greco-Roman myth and language (see: Corypheus' name being the Latinized Koruphaos, meaning Chorus Leader). But I think I figured it out.

Fenris' sword is named Lethendralis, right? Broken apart, it is Lethe+dralis (the n is there to make it sound right). Dralis breaks down further to dru+alis, making the name Lethe+dru+alis.

Lethe is the name of one of the Greek Underworld rivers, the river of Forgetting. In myth, drinking water from or submerging yourself in the river will cause all the memories to flow away from you.

Dru is the Greek word for tree.

Alis is a suffix (attached to end of a word) to make it into an adjective. In English, we use the derivative -al ending (think vital, lethal, mental).

So, putting it together, that would mean the name of the blade is "The tree next to Lethe". In myth there is, in fact, a cypress tree next to the river.

In terms of iconography for Fenris, specifically, Lethendralis is the tree while Fenris is the river whose memories have been carried away. This also further amplified by the fact that once you give him the Blade of Mercy, he uses that instead of Lethendralis - memories are being made to replace the lost ones.

Also, "Fenris" rightfully gets an association with Fenrir, the Norse wolf-monster. But since Tevinter is emphatically not Norse-inspired, I went looking for a Latin etmyology for his name as well and found one.

Fen+ris - "fen" comes from "fendere", or "to rend/tear" and "-ris" is just a suffix that makes it into a noun. Hence, Fenris' Latin etymology is "The one who rends".

As far as his original name, Leto, goes, that one catually belongs to a Greek goddess, the mother of Artemis and Apollo. This may also be revelant to Fenris' respite on Seheron (which itself might be a spin off the Greek word "semeron", meaning "field of blood"). Leto, once she got pregnant by Zeus, was cursed by Hera not to give birth on any land. Being an island which had not yet settled down, Delos offered to let Leto give birth there and escape Hera's ire. While not a clean one-to-one, Seheron also allowed Fenris to escape Danarius (a danarius, btw, is the lowest denomination of Roman coin). Hadriana, too, is the feminine form of Hadrian, a Roman emperor.

Hell, even "lyrium" is a Latinization of "lyra", which means "song" (so lyrium means "the singing [thing]").

My Fenhawke Headcannon (for my Jane):

Fenris is broody and seems to be against touch because of his marks, but I like to imagine that once he gets closer to Hawke and says he loves her, he sort of likes it when she touches him. If she runs her hands down his arms or over his chest or touch his neck, he doesn’t react badly anymore and actually leans into it.

I just wanted to say that bc I’m craving Fenhawke content in this day.
