Thess vs Games Collections
There are a few things that my friends know about me:
They know I have fibromyalgia, which leaves me with a lot of chronic pain and occasional focus issues
They know that I almost certainly have undiagnosed ADHD
They know that I have somehow managed to turn a lot of my ADHD stuff into assets, or at least ways to offset everything else that’s wrong with me. I let my impulsivity fight it out with my executive dysfunction, but most of all, when the painkillers aren’t working, I let hyperfocus stand in, focusing past the pain on something fun but not too demanding while the painkillers kick in properly
They know this means I need a lot of Zen games - largely sims of the farming / crafting / colony creation / business-running variety
And finally, they know my Steam account
They know all these things. Because they know all these things, and love me enough to want to be of whatever help they can as I limp my way through life, and most of all because they are generous little buggers, they have a tendency to fling Zen games at my head at random intervals. Thankfully, most Zen games aren’t the most expensive ones, and are generally done by indie companies so I don’t have to side-eye the AAA gaming companies of the day by encouraging more money going to the abusive sons-of-bitches.
Side note: checking over my wish list, there’s, like, four games on there that aren’t indie - Tales of Arise is Bandai; like three or four of them are Square Enix (Nier and a couple of FF games), but mostly indie. I mean, obviously I’m waiting for the Horizon: Forbidden West PC port, but while Sony Interactive is obviously in the AAA space, at least Guerilla hasn’t had the kind of horrible noise made about it that companies like Activision Blizzard, Ubisoft, EA, and even CDPR have. Though on the subject of EA, I am still waiting on the next Dragon Age game. The franchise means a lot to me.
Anyway, the point is that I have had a couple of games flung at my head in the last week or so. And at least one of them has proven very helpful in the hyperfocus stakes. I’m a little behind the curve on Spiritfarer - I seem to remember that there was a fair bit of discussion about it when it came out but that was August 2020 and lockdown was in full swing and I was unemployed and on benefits and I had enough new games to power through so I tried very hard not to pay any attention to any new shininess I might like until I had a job, at which point it was no longer in the buzz. However, I was still trawling for demos on Steam and happened to trip over this one and thought, “Oh, this looks cute; I’ll give it a go”. And then the demo was over and I was going, “Wait! No! More game!” Buuuuut I am wary and I wanted to be sure that it belonged in a pride-of-place position on my wish list, so I asked the one person on my Steam friends list who had actually played the thing what they thought. Responses were: 1) “It’s fantastic!”; 2) “I should play that again since the last spirits were added in the last patch”; 3) “Here; HAVE GAME”. (I mean, payday was only a few days away but hell with it; it just means I have a bit more fun money floating around to throw the new Solasta DLC at his head.)
Anyway, yes, I have been loving it, and the balance between story and faffing about doing crafting / gardening / building and exploring the world is perfect for hyperfocus without any particular task getting too dull and taking me out of it. Also, it’s sweet and sad and lovely, as well as being funny and silly. It’s grand in its way; a game that’s both big and small at the same time. The world is big but there doesn’t always seem to be much in it, while your ship is comparatively small but it’s also huge with not just your building efforts, but also the inner lives of everyone aboard. You’re this little nexus of vibrant life floating around a big but somehow empty world, and it balances it so well. I think the only issue I could possibly raise against this game is that some of the crafting-related mini-games are fiddly as hell. However, I did manage to tamp down my perfectionist streak when I realised that even if you mess up, you still get something at the end of it, so the goal isn’t “do all of this perfectly or you lose”; it’s “do this thing the best you can and get as many crafted items as you can in the process”.
The same cannot be said for Potion Craft: Alchemy Simulator. This is so sad because it was given to me because of the personal associations between me and blending things until magic comes out (perfume, cookery, candy making etc). However, its mechanics are fiddly as fuck. It requires the kind of finesse the controls don’t really allow for and the tutorial doesn’t teach right off in any case. If someone wants a strong potion when you’re on day 1 and you’ve had no teaching in exactly what ratio of ground to whole ingredients you need to add or exactly when to stop grinding the grindables and they tell you to experiment but your ingredients are limited so that’s not actually feasible... No. Just ... no. I will probably poke at it a couple of more times just in case, but I have a feeling that one’s being relegated to the NOPE collection.
Yeah, I have a NOPE collection. It’s not for games I don’t like, exactly; it’s for games I literally cannot play for one reason or another but might try again one day. I mean, okay, Disco Elysium was one I didn’t like and didn’t get (mechanically it was very clever! I just found the intro frustrating as hell), and FFXIII is there because after about a half-hour of running down a corridor broken up with “Press X To Perform Combat” mechanics and overlong cutscenes that do not exactly move me to root for the characters or take an interest in their story or motives, I just got fed up. But mostly, it’s literal inability to play. Most of my first-person perspective games are there because migraine issues, particularlly the first two Borderlands games (though Far Cry 3 is also there because I died in the fucking tutorial and don’t know what I did wrong so screw that, and Remember Me was third person but the camera angles came out of Escher and you had limited camera control so I ended up flattened with a week-long migraine after about 20 minutes). The original Saints Row and Beyond Good and Evil got relegated to the NOPE collection because I could not manage their vehicle sections. Basically, most of the games relegated to that collection have some combination of “frustrating controls”, “migraine”, and “...the fuck is this?” Unfortunately, Potion Craft might be relegated to the NOPE collection sooner rather than later.
...I haven’t relegated the Dishonored games to the NOPE collection yet. This because I am assured from multiple sources that the franchise being all about stealth makes the shifts in gaze perspective easier to manage. However, I had to relegate Raising Petals to the NOPE collection and that was a fucking walking simulator because someone decided that they were really going to sell the fuck out of that “jounce because foot hitting ground” thing that most games only really do to any great degree when running. So even with the new medication really helping with the migraines, I’m wary of trying it again. So ... not NOPE. Just ... maybe when I’m feeling brave and have a few days where I can take to bed with a headache. Just in case.
I should have a MIGRAINE collection.

Games Played in 2023
New year, new post where I humiliate myself by posting everything I played this year! And actually? I'm pretty proud of myself this year! If you look at 2022, I bought a LOT of games! A crazy amount! But this time, I actually didn't spend nearly as much this year. My purchase list is pretty short, and I actually barely bought anything during Steam Sales! I actually did not buy ANYTHING during the autumn and winter sales and I'm genuinely proud of myself!
And I managed to play a BUNCH of stuff! I really tore through a lot of games and had a lot of fun even with the ones I had to play on super easy difficulties cause I suck at games lmao. If you're curious what I spent time playing, you can take a look under the read more!
Key
Present - Game was given to me by someone else
Gift - I gave the game to someone else, but I can still play that copy
Free - I got the game for free
And as always I only put games on here that I played for the first time or had the intention of beating for the first time or reached a big milestone in for the first time. I won’t include Super Smash Bros. Ultimate for example, I played it a lot this year. But I played it a lot last year too.
I also removed stuff like itchio bundles and subscription services because it bloats the list and... I'm a little embarrassed haha.

===========
And there you have it! Everything I bought, beat, and tried through the year! As always, I'm certain there's stuff missing that I didn't intentionally axe. I keep track of this stuff kinda closely cause I'll completely forget otherwise but even I make mistakes or play stuff that's forgettable lol.
As for next year? There's a few things I'd like to play in 2024, a couple of series I want to continue and a couple of new things to try, as well as a lot of games I wanted to play THIS YEAR but didn't get around to it! My only real gaming resolution is to play less Fortnite. I'm serious!
Looking back at my goals for 2023 I actually did get through a lot of them. Megaman, God of War, and Enchanted Arms were all games I mentioned wanting to play. And I said I wanted to play more meaty RPGs and wouldn't you know it, my top 5 old games I played this year were ALL RPGs! So I think I did a good job!
I also did a lot of emulating this year and had a GREAT time with it! I experimented with a ton of consoles and it's interesting to see how certain things work for more complicated stuff like PS3/360. It really did open up what I can play and I can't believe I just stopped doing this for a while! Glad to be back! NOW I CAN MAKE GIFS!!
That should be that for 2023! Here's to a fantastic year full of fun and video games for everyone! Let's head into 2024 blazing!

Dragon Age: Inquisition is one of my favourite games of all time. I love everything about this game, from the compelling hero’s journey, to the roster of lovable characters, to making the Inquisitor my very own unique protagonist. Few games compare to the experiences and tremendous moments that Inquisition provides, not to mention the Trespasser DLC which revealed the true intention of the game’s villain, and paved the story forward for future titles.
I think it’s rather telling how good this game is, considering we’re still talking about it nearly 6 years later after launch, discovering new theories and mysterious hidden deep within the lore. Heck, if Dragon Age: Inquisition was a mediocre experience, I don’t think I’d have a YouTube channel today with thousands of recurring views weekly talking about the game, and where the story is going to go since the events of Inquisition.
However, there is something critical that I feel is necessary to discuss regarding Dragon Age Inquisition’s original marketing demos and the expectations they set for the finished game.
Following up to the launch of Dragon Age: Inquisition, I used to obsessively re-watch the first original gameplay demo shown at Pax Prime 2013. At the time the game was in its pre-alpha build, however, there were many impressive features and dynamics showing just a glimpse of what we’d come to expect once we got our hands on the game.
In retrospect, these promises were scrapped before the finished project released.
This post is not meant to be a negative outlook, poking holes at BioWare’s effort, but an investigation and critique into BioWare’s game design, more specifically, the cuts the developers made tackling Inquisition’s complicated release, and how they’ve learned since.
For the uninitiated, Dragon Age: Inquisition released in November, 2014, a month after the next generation of consoles launched. As the game was jammed in-between two gaming generations, it was designed to ship on both the previous generation of consoles (Xbox 360/PS3) and the current generation (XB1/PS4).
In order for the game to predominantly run on the lower spec consoles, many gameplay cuts, downgrades and setbacks were made to the final project.
I’m not talking about conceptual ideas in pre-production that were drafted for the game, like The Architect making a cameo appearance in a “Here Lies The Abyss” alternative twist, or the Hero of Ferelden, Hawke and The Inquisitor meeting up in a potential drafted prologue. Of course, there were plenty of ideas, concepts and story threads that were canned and reworked because the developers had better, and frankly more relevant plans for the game.
I’m talking about actual features and mechanics that were incorporated and designed into the vertical slice demo that was shown off to the fans at Pax Prime 2013, and then were removed later on just before launch.
I would like to point out that the gameplay I’m going to show was alpha footage, and the developers made sure we all understood that it could easily change, nobody lied to us. If anything, BioWare were so eager to show off the next Dragon Age game, that perhaps this was the biggest detriment to the project.
I’ll have the full Pax gameplay demo linked for those who want to watch it fully. But without further ado, I’m going to be revealing the Dragon Age: Inquisition we almost got.
Cut Content:
The demo starts with a significant cut, originally Dragon Age: Inquisition would’ve featured stunning party member cutscenes when entering new areas for the first time.  We see Varric, Cassandra and Vivienne discussing how prepared they are since the Inquisition formed. Varric banters that he’s outnumbered by the ladies once again.
We can assume that these dynamic banter cutscenes based on your party members were replaced with Scout Harding’s area report.
The models and textures for the characters and armours look very different too. Cassandra has a more angled facial structure, like her original concept art. And, the Inquisitor’s armour and textures don’t even exist in the final game, I remember attempting to recreate this look, a thousand times over, however, no fabrics in the game have this orange texture.
Helmets also appear in conversations, which is a huge pet peeve of mine, I’m still upset to this day that we can’t see helmets in conversations and there’s no mod to fix it. However, they added this feature in Mass Effect: Andromeda, so maybe we’ll see it in the future.
In general, this demo showed that there was going to be a lot more cutscenes when entering new areas, in party banter, and for minor conversations with smaller characters.
Upon inspecting the gameplay, we can see the camera’s placement was significantly adjusted. The demo had a third-person feel, whereas the game ended up with a pulled back camera, probably to suite the tactical camera for combat. Fortunately, there are mods that actually fix this issue.
The UI has evolved since the demo, there used to be a Skyrim-esqe navigation compass that was replaced with a radar. And the party member icons are different, but that’s just nit-picking.
The combat is more or less the same, however, it does seem more reactive and heftier in the demo. Most likely because the camera is more zoomed into the action. There are some tweaks though, the enemies react more to the Inquisitor’s attacks, the stumble, flail and even run away, as opposed to just taking the damage and then attacking you back.
However, minor these cuts may seem to you; they did change the game a fair amount adding more immersion to the overall experience.
Even so, the most obvious and upsetting cut when watching this demo regards the entirety of Crestwood, the area has been dramatically reduced in the final game.
In this demo, the Inquisitor is given a conflict. One of the Inquisition’s soldiers asks the player how does the Inquisitor want to handle their armies' movements throughout the area.
The Inquisitor could send the Inquisition army to save the town of Crestwood.
They could lead the soldiers to tend to the nearby wounded.
Or they could bolster every solider to the Keep, leaving both the wounded and the town of Crestwood.
Each choice had a consequence, and both Mike Laidlaw and Mark Darrah spoke on having multiple ways to approach the situation. For instance, in the demo’s scenario the Inquisitor decides to leave the town while it’s under siege, instead, they find a secret entrance towards the Keep. Using Antivan Fire, they burn the invaders’ boats which would prevent them from escaping after their attack. The Inquisition take the Keep, and head back to the ransacked town filled with newly fresh corpses. A dynamic cutscene of Varric mourning the dead plays out, adding emotional impact and weight to the decision the Inquisitor just made.
And this was just a side questline...
The demo ends with the developers reiterated the tactical and dynamic approaches when showing the Inquisition taking over the Keep at The Western Approach.
According to Mark Darrah, you could weaken enemy defences by doing things like drawing out the troops or poisoning their wells.
Then, once you claimed the keep for yourself, you’d get a quest called ‘This Water Tastes Funny’, in which your Keep's well was poisoned and you’d have to go find fresh water.
The Keep’s themselves were originally designed to have a lot more influence and reactivity throughout the world. Once captured, the Inquisitor could choose a dynamic choice for the Keep’s overall goal, if you had enough Inquisition agents.
The Keep could be specialised based on the Inquisition’s advisors. You could choose to run your Keep as a Military outpost, boosting fortifications. It could be a Keep of espionage and secrets, for information gathering, or you could make it a Keep of connections and merchants for diplomatic purposes. Each different speciality had a different advantage and aesthetic to suit its purpose.
Adding more choices and roleplaying values for making the Inquisition your own army, having a say in what aspects it should grow in.
That sums up the majority of the cuts made since this demo. I will say it’s unfortunate seeing these unfinished features that shaped the game in a completely different direction, that inevitably couldn’t make it into the finished project.
But I think it’s wrong to pin the blame of this cut content on anyone because the developers were tackling a console generation shift, and they wanted everyone to have the opportunity to play the game without having to get a new console. Can you really blame them for that?
Perhaps many of these features may be designed into a future title since the developers wanted them so much in Inquisition? And speaking of the future title, at least the next Dragon Age game won’t be coming out in between a console generation, it is being designed strictly for next-gen, so there shouldn't be any console setbacks and limitations.
Even still, when Dragon Age 4 does eventually get a gameplay reveal, don’t set your expectations in stone based on that reveal. The finished project will look very different. These days gameplay previews aren’t always accurate, and that’s just a dilemma of the entire games industry, not just EA and BioWare.
Wrapping up on a positive note, BioWare have learned from this experience, and they’re approaching Dragon Age 4 with a “show, don’t tell” strategy. They will be proceeding with caution when marketing and revealing the next Dragon Age game, and that may play a part in why we haven't and won't see anything official for a while.
I don’t think I could end on a better note then the Narrative Director, John Epler’s message about Inquisition’s development. John said: “A good 90% of 'bad' decisions are, in fact, the best decision at the time. Game dev is all about making the best decision you can at the time, with the resources you have. A lot of stuff you thought was weird or awkward came down to a gut call of 'this is the best I can make this and I trust it's good enough'. Sometimes we're right, sometimes not.”
BioWare decided to make these cuts to Inquisition because they realised it was the right thing to do for the entire project, perhaps they felt they couldn’t deliver these features to their full capacity, or they wanted a change of direction. They believe these decisions were made for the greater good of the game, and I commend them for that.
Dragon Age Inquisition is an incredible RPG with tons of personality, that not many games can even mimic. Although the game had some minor setbacks with the fair amount of content that was cut, the game is just as amazing without those initial features.
Like I said, perhaps we’ll see these mechanics in the next game, if not, then at least it has been a learning experience for BioWare, that they can utilise for the development of Dragon Age 4.
In any regard, let me know your thoughts down below on this gameplay demo relating to the finished game, and don’t forget to check out my latest news update!

🎮 Where's My Controller?
Haven't played much this week.
🎵 Turn it up to 11!
Nothing is more iconic of the 90s than Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers. The franchise had several outings on the Super Nintendo, but the sound  track is absolutely a masterpiece. It majestically kept the energy of the original theme song, while expanding and crafting something new. The Boss Theme track is a thumping expression of pure rush. Check it out here. The entire soundtrack is fantastic and worthy of a many listens. Here is the YouTube Playlist.
📝I don't know what a pen looks like.
I am writing up my Blue Reflection Piece. The first draft is completed.

Post Microsoft E3 2017 Write Up
Another E3 press conference, another write up of my thoughts and opinions, feelings, all the things.
Shoutout to the IP Boys and some special guests who got together without me to discuss and breakdown the Xbox E3 briefing. You should definitely check it out!
youtube
So let’s get into it.
Xbox One X
So personally, as I said in my predictions piece, I thought they’d go the Xbox One Elite route for things, since it’s consistent with their branding up until now, especially with the Xbox 360. But the Xbox One X is a fine name. It sounds kind of cool, it plays into that whole “X is cool” branding which I think is a little bit old school. It feels very much in the vein of a “my system is better than yours” branding philosophy, almost harkening back to Sega vs Nintendo. It at least gave me those vibes without being overly patronizing or talking down to the consumer. I get frustrated when I see people saying that they wish it’d been named Scorpio, that that was a cooler sounding name. It really wasn’t. It was a name we’ve been used to, and as people on the inside of things, codenames appeal to us. It’s like spies: they have that secretive nature, making them feel more like exclusive or secretive ideas. But that name means nothing to the consumer that doesn’t follow along with these insider pieces of news and rumors. The Scorpio, as a public product, would be confusing and branding. The “X” sitting alongside the “S” is easy to understand, and makes one stand as an elite or stronger piece of hardware, and I think it’s easy to see and understand.
As for $499. Yeah, it’s expensive, and it’s a bummer, and I feel the same way about the PS4 Pro. At the very least I feel like I’d get a significant difference out of the X than I would from the Pro. Also, I’m not disappointed because this has what I’ve thought the price would be from the absolute beginning. It’s a tall ask, and obviously I think it’ll not sell as well as the Xbox One S, but I feel that after the protracted opening to the conference, Microsoft made a good pitch as to why you should just get in on the Xbox ecosystem of consoles in general.
The Games
I really loved the series of games that came through. There were quite a few that I am very interested in, and I know there has been a lot of lukewarm talk around the games they showed, but many of them are what I’d call “Alex O’Neill-ass picks”. I don’t want to go through all of them, but I’ll discuss the ones that stick out.
The top two are the Life is Strange Prequel and a new Ori game. Seriously, hearing there is a new Ori game coming is maybe the best announcement, for me personally, from that conference. That is a game that genuinely touched my soul, and is one of my all time favorite Metroidvanias. It skyrocketed itself to the number two spot on my favorite games of 2015 list, a year that was very competitive. It even outpaced The Witcher 3. Life is Strange was the number one for me that year, so just going back to that story with Chloe and Rachel this time has me so excited. It’ll be interesting to see that world through the lens of a new character without superpowers, but boy am I excited to see it at all.
After that is Tacoma, which is one of my most anticipated titles now that we’re out of the Persona 5/Zelda torrent that was early 2017. Gone Home wrecked me and hit me in ways that I’ve never seen in a game before, and Tacoma is so within my realm and I’m just endlessly excited to see not only what Fulbright has learned from Gone Home itself, but the several games that have followed in its footsteps in the years since. It’s so close too, and it’s one of those titles that I just want to lock myself in a room with and not speak to anyone until I’ve finished.
Assassin’s Creed Origins actually looks interesting to me. The combat looked like a big step up for that series, and loot/RPG mechanics, while generally overplayed in most modern games today, do still have a strong appeal to me. I’m really interested in what a new, take-your-time AC game looks like in this day and age. Still a lot of unknowns there, but a Bow is a big get for me.
I am all aboard the Anthem bandwagon. Like, all the way. As a complete and total Destiny-convert, I got both Destiny vibes of that, with a little big of wide-scale Titanfall feel to the way the exosuits looked and feel. While I can only hope the game plays as well as it looks, and it looks outstanding, I wonder what the story of that world will be. Bioware are obviously infamous for their design, narrative, and storytelling, but we only got such a small taste of that in this Anthem demo. It looks, at its most base, like a game I want to get lost in and explore with friends, something I love doing in Destiny, and hopefully there is something very deep behind that too. This was a total showstopper for me.
All those games super appeal to me, and here are some quick fires:
Metro looks amazing. At least, graphically, and a possibly-open-world Metro could be good for that series. It makes me wish I had taken the time to get into it, but we’ll see what happens.
Forza is real pretty. Still don’t care about cars.
Sea of Thieves still looks incredibly promising. I don’t want to get too excited yet, but man does it appeal to my swashbuckling adventurer side.
I really, really want State of Decay 2 to be good. I reeeeeally do. I hope it is.
Player Unknown Battlegrounds is a massive get for Microsoft. Xbox Games Preview is working in their favor here. Can’t wait to play it.
Cuphead has a date, let’s hope that game is dope.
Dragon Ball FighterZ, at least visually, looks INCREDIBLE. Man those Guilty Gear folks know how to make anime in motion.
I am now more interested in Crackdown 3 than I was before, even if it was still, overall, underwhelming.
I will play Black Desert Online, if only to make a bunch of anime-ass characters.
Super Lucky’s Tale looks SO FUCKING CUTE OH MY GOD
Looks like Shadow of War got quietly delayed?? I’m really bummed about that, since I thought it’d be a perfect summer game. It had a ton of personality though, and I can’t wait to play it.
The Pitch
I think the pitch for Xbox One X is rough. It’s just another higher-end version of a console you can get for cheaper, and as much as I do want it, it’s always a hard sell when you know you can save a bunch of money for games by buying the weaker, more affordable piece of hardware. But this appeals more to me than the PS4 Pro does. I think it was just presented better, announced better, and utilized in a Presser better. And that honestly goes a long way.
The pitch to get into the Microsoft ecosystem of consoles was really strong. Microsoft didn’t lean on any of their easy-hitters. No Gears. No Halo. Nothing cheap, nothing big on crowd pleasing, and they even said their brining original Xbox games into the backwards compatibility program. It really unifies their consoles into one thing, and I imagine that compatibility will continue on forever into the future. They look poised, and consumer-friendly, and I think they had a game up there for everyone.
Even if the Xbox One X doesn’t appeal to you, I think generally they strengthened the appeal for the Xbox in general. While I agree with some sentiments out there that there was no “home run” here, save for maybe Anthem, I think Xbox really kicked ass as a show in general.
Stay tuned here for all my written thoughts on all of the press briefings, and come back Tuesday where I am finally going to do a Sunday Chats, just on a Tuesday. I’m off to go watch Bethesda’s conference now!

Thess vs Next Fest 2023, Pt 3
Well, okay, the bacon cheeseburgers have to wait because apparently it’s cold enough that my beef hasn’t defrosted adequately yet. So onward to more demos!
Interior Worlds: This is a walking simulator with a bit of a difference. It promises no jump scares ... but apparently underestimates how much jump scare you can actually get when you’re walking in a tense creepy environment and there’s anything like a sudden noise when they promise that. Anyway, point is it’s a “walk around through creepy liminal spaces taking pictures at specific points” kind of game. I don’t know if the full game will be more in-depth, but either way, I think I like it. It’s not a Zen game, though. It’s a “I will play this with the lights off at 3am because I apparently just need to be terrified and tense in a way that doesn’t involve the current mess the world’s in” kind of game.
Cynthia: Hidden in the Moonshadow: I don’t get a lot of feel about what this game’s about from the demo, but it definitely gives a feel for the mechanics. Character has a weapon but has so far only used it to solve puzzles and access areas; the only enemies we see get stealthed past in a way that gave me some Horizon: Zero Dawn feels, for all the setting is very, very different. There’s some hints at Shit About To Go Down, but the tutorial (which was the extent of the demo) doesn’t indicate what or how, exactly, and honestly I’m mostly seeing this thing waving a big Standard Hero’s Journey sign. Plus the controls weren’t the best (intuitive to a point, but movement was a bit sticky) and the colours were so bright. So it’ll stay on the wishlist but I think I want to see more about what this one’s about first.
Right. Now I will take my meds, have an early bath, make my cheeseburgers (I think the stupid beef is defrosted now) and then probably more demos. Or maybe something I can metaphorically sink my teeth into. I did actually pick up Dragon Age: Inquisition again the other day, dragging my Meep!Herald a little more through Jaws of Hakkon at least partly so I can get it finished, move on to The Descent, then finish the base game and finally do Trespasser on a Cullenmancer, and on an elven mage. I’ve only seen the endgame romance with Sera so far, that on a human rogue, so there’s stuff surrounding travelling through the eluvians I haven’t got to see yet. Still ... Jaws of Hakkon, for all its good moments, is cataclysmically annoying sometimes.

Pitches
For the first 3 weeks I spent making my pitch, Game Logo and pre-production. I focused on these because I knew to get my game green-lighted. I also knew that I would have to show the college that I would be able to do this, so I searched up some of my old projects and found my first project was showing some of the skills I would need.
For my Pitch I started  with research and looked for what type of game I wanted to make, after looking at the themes of my last games I decided to do an RPG sequel to my last game with different characters. A game that does the same is the Final Fantasy series. I found this while doing my research, the final fantasy series is 14 games long. The game itself uses the same world but different characters.
I made my logo using the Golden Spiral. I found out many companies use the Golden Spiral in logos and posters making it effective. For example a Logo that sued the Golden Spiral is a well know company called Apple. The way it works is the way most people look at things is that they will always fixate on a small property of the logo/poster first, their eyes then change to to look at the rest of it slowly following a spiral.
The spiral can also be put sideways to fit the logo's size. I find this good to use because It shows what has the most impact in the logo/spiral. I like this as it makes me be able to see where to put the most attention grabbing section of my logo. I also like the fact that it gives you a guideline to put where to put things like in most logos and posters the main image goes first and then the spiral goes down towards the writing.
Tumblr media
I started by looking at logos to do with eyes and I knew of a game with an eye logo. I really wanted to have an eye logo because IT would go with the name “Ellika Watcher”. Watcher obviously being a huge influence on the logo. The logo that influenced me the most was the Dragon Age Inquisition logo.
Tumblr media
I liked how the logo has a murderous vibe and monstrous look to it. I also like how the sword went through the eye making it look like the monster was damaged by the sword. The symbol also has a unique coloring, the eye itself is colored red symbolizing the evilness and hostile behavior it may have therefore it got slain. I also like the use of the black and white. The white represents the pureness of the sword that has the monster putting the aura of it. It also shows that the blade may be angelic. The black shows the fear and darkness within the monster that the white is trying to extinguish but its obviously surrounded by blackness making it a unfair fight. The fight between darkness and light, Evil vs Good with the good at a disadvantage. This represents that the good hasnt given up hope yet and wants to defeat the evil and gain strength.
This is why my logo has the same color scheme, I also tried to make it look like the eye was getting stabbed by the sword because it gives of a symbolic feel of hope for the player. It also shows of the type of game it is going to. A sword normally represents a more medieval era and that means it would be and RPG game.
I started my pre-production by making a gant chart, this allowed me to get my time framing right for everything else e.g production, secondary and primary research. I then started to look into beat maps and writing up My proposal on word, by using the book Level Up! By Scott Rodgers. It gave me an Idea about what I would have to write up on my beat map, GDD and one sheet. I did these because it helps me create a sense of what the game is going to be like, I also looked at his narrative theory and applied my story to it. I tried to make a story that can impact the consumer. It is related to drug abuse and showing the repercussions of abusing them.
The pitch was the hardest to make because I had to come up with a general idea and look at what I could do in a general time. I took inspiration from my very first project. I learnt the basic movement system, attacking system and a few more mechanics in the process which I decided to reuse. I decided to reuse these skills because It made sense to make having a basis for an RPG that I already knew How to do without having to research new mechanics. I think It would also be okay since I did not really make my own characters and just revamped their texture as I acquired them from an online source. furthermore, I was going to be doing an RPG it would be easier to complicate things less. I put a video of my “demo” or alpha looks for the game on the end to show the teachers what I could do to get my idea green-lighted. My pitch also contained details about my skills, what software’s I could use and where I am going to be looking for my research.

The Big List
As far as I can tell there is no application to put my library into plain text so I’ll have to do this all manually... 1,255 Games*. Here we go (in Alphabetical)
*Actual amount is less due to hidden games and the such.
Now how did I do this? Well I used https://steamdb.info/ to get a list of all my Steam games. From there I just copied everything into Notepad++. I then deleted the easy bits (AppID, game) using find and replace. In find and replace I then used this code snippet \:.*?% and  \r\n\r\n to get rid of the rest of the useless filler. From there I got this usable text. This was a lot more enjoyable than going through and typing my whole library in manually.
