Let's talk about Ice Dragon

I mean.. this thing is literally my namesake! Let me give it recognition.

I know I frequently post about characters such as Susie, Magolor and Marx, and yet I have "icedragonlizard" as my username which would imply that I should be more all over this big chubby blue dinosaur.

Funny of me to be acting the way I do.

However... despite seldom talking about him, I do love this thing.

I chose this username for two reasons: 1.) to stand out and 2.) while Ice Dragon may not necessarily be my top favorite character in all of Kirby, it is however one of my very favorite designs in the series!

I adore the appearance of this big cute silly thing.

He's big. He's chubby. He's blue. He looks very squishy. I want to hug him even if he'd bite me or turn me into an ice cube. He just straight up looks like a dinosaur, despite having dragon in his name. This is like the perfect sort of kawaii dinosaur design you'd expect in Kirby.

He looks like the substitute decoy from pokemon, LOL.

We don't have much reptiles in Kirby. There's also Landia, of course, which is another dragon. And there are also Galbos, an enemy species with evolved variants such as Galboros. I've noticed the visual similarities that Ice Dragon has to Galbos. May they be related at all?

I think the biggest problem with Ice Dragon is that he... isn't much of a character. He's very under-utilized. As far as I know, all his main appearances are: a boss in Dream Land 2 where he debuted, he's a painting that Adeleine summons in Dream Land 3, 64 and Star Allies (the former two as bosses, the latter as playable), he's a hologram in Planet Robobot, and if I'm not mistaken he also shows up in the clash games. I've never actually played the clash games but I've seen images of him in it.

And the fact he sadly has little recognition in the fandom in general.

He's much less major than other boss characters like Whispy Woods and Kracko. At least those two show up in like almost every game.

He doesn't even have a mask of his likeliness in Merry Magoland!

At least he does appear in the anime, though. I think it was cool the way they handled him, where they gave him a small version and then he just grew really gigantic.

There's unfortunately just very little to work with or talk about with Ice Dragon. One can try to rectify this with headcanons, which I've tried.

I do have headcanons for him.... it's just not a ton due to how little and minor of a character he is. For one, I headcanon that he's the king of whatever is Popstar's main snowy/arctic area, whether that be Iceberg (from DL2 and DL3) or White Wafers (from RTDL). And I imagine he's friends with King Dedede or at least gets along with him well, since they both serve as kings in their respective lands. Adeleine and the animal friends may know him and get along with him well, too, since the former even has paintings of him that she can summon.

If Ice Dragon was more major than he is... if they made him a more frequent boss and did more with him, I'd be all over it. I'd talk about him a lot more. I'd develop more headcanons for him at that point!

I once thought about that if Forgotten Land was willing to include dinosaur-like creatures during its game, then a primal version of Ice Dragon would've been absolutely perfect for the Winter Horns section.

If they ever do a Kirby game that includes dinosaurs, whether they be the villain faction or something else, then I think Ice Dragon himself or a relative could show up, and the aesthetic of his design could be a great base for other dinosaur creatures that get added in the series.

^ Just an idea, more ideas could be made.

This could be said for a lot of other characters in Kirby, I know, but I think a lot of really cool and awesome stuff could be done with Ice Dragon if HAL were to utilize him as such. I'd love to see it happen.

Oh and by the way, I'm aware that a plushie for Ice Dragon exists... it's from the Roly-Poly Friends merch line, but it's extremely rare to find and also costs a ton of money. It's out of my luxury to get it, sadly.

I would love to see a Sanei plushie of this guy come out at some point. I did say after all that I'd expand on my plushie collection more when they introduce more Sanei plushies later down the road, didn't I? Hahahahaha. Although I have the feeling that may take a while. That's fine. No need to rush. But if an Ice Dragon plush from Sanei comes into existence, I'm going to get it in a heartbeat. It'll be great.

So, random thoughts about the recent update on EN. (I don't know what's happening on JP server, so please don't tell me anything.)

I was thinking.... Maybe it's because I'm tired.... (2 hours of sleep), but I had a thought. What if Malleus just wins? Even if only briefly.... like he actually manages to engulf the entire world with his sleep curse. (Ahem, blessing.) I mean, how are we.....

Supposed to stop that.

I.... I don't think fighting is the answer here... I really dont.... Malleus is the next thing right under omnipotent. He's not quite there... but dang! What the heck man! What is going on in your head!? You're so weird it's actually intriguing. I want to know what he's thinking, because this plan of his is just ridiculous! Ridiculous in the sense that there's no way his plan can actually pan out the way he wants it to forever. Like, 1000 years of sleep huh? What do you think will happen when you allow everyone to wake up? Or.... you gonna change your mind and just keep them asleep longer? You're not giving everyone their dreams. You're dangling it in front of them like a carrot on a stick. Making them think they have what they want, only for it to be stripped from them one day. But hey, at least you get to keep Lilia, right? I get it. He's hurting. And he's acting pretty desperate. I'm going to ask the same question I have asked before. How much is the blot affecting his mind? Morphing in with his thoughts to help him believe that this is rational? He wants something so simple and innocent, but is going about it in an incredibly selfish way.

In the original case of Maleficent, she is defeated by a sword stabbing into her heart.... I hate to say it, but there's only two ways to stop Malleus at this point. Either manage to talk him out of it, or killing him. Yeah, it hurt to type that. But I'm just typing the facts. There is no way we'll be defeating him the way we did with the other overblotters. Which is how I got the idea of, what if he "wins". At least the type of win where everyone feels like they're all doomed and all hope is lost right before someone figures out a way to stop him. I know from Malleus' perspective at the moment, he's already won.

Y'know, my blog name has become Ironic now. I named it 'Once Upon A Wonderland Twists into A Dreamland' because I decided it sounded cool, and I wanted a blog name that had a meaning behind it. The "Once Upon a" part alluding to the fact that a lot of fairy tales start with "once upon a time". Though I believe half of the tales Twist takes from technically don't start like that. But y'know... popular trope.... and then the "Wonderland" part in my blog name because: "twisted wonderland". Now the "twists into a Dreamland" part came about because I had thought of make-believe worlds that we find ourselves going to as a sort of Dreamland. A place to escape to for a while.... (also I wanted "Twist" somewhere in the title.) Hence the name: Once Upon A Wonderland Twists Into A Dreamland. Now it seems my blog name has predicted what happens in book 7.... 🤣 I don't know. I like ironic stuff like this. It's funny.

Just recently finished a commission for a friend, to welcome in a new small person to the family.

Had fun with this, and got to stretch some art muscles (figuring out how to make the dolphins sorta chrome-y), but feel I nailed it in the end. I mean who wouldn't want to be surfing with dolphins or riding on a dragon?

Meta Knight and Galaxia: An Observation (and maybe a theory)

Earlier today, I was watching a playthrough of Kirby's Return to Dreamland, and as the group was fighting Magolor Soul EX, I noticed something peculiar: 

In his EX form, he uses Galaxia. Huh! I never knew about that! It's gotten my theory brain going a little, I'll admit. How did he get that? Why is there more than one of it to begin with?

If the Master Crown can summon Galaxia, is there some kind of connection between the two relics?

Well. Let's see.

Before the games officially started using the name "Galaxia" (a name that first appeared in the Kirby anime) for the legendary blade, the fan community had a different name for it: the Master Sword. What looks like a tongue-in-cheek reference to Legend of Zelda at first glance actually has some canon basis - in Kirby and the Amazing Mirror, Meta Knight entrusts his sacred sword to Kirby for the final battle. The copy ability Kirby receives thereupon is simply called the "Master ability"; so the sword he got it from must consequently be called the Master Sword, right?

(Granted, the sword's design has changed quite a bit since then, but it's presumably still the same weapon that is known as Galaxia nowadays. The in-game spritework also has that golden energy dance around the blade in ways that strongly resemble Galaxia's familiar prongs.)

So if Galaxia is the Master Sword, and the relic known as the Master Crown can summon alternate versions of it... Perhaps these two artifacts aren't so dissimilar. 👀 I wonder if a similar power to Crowned Magolor could be unleashed through it, if Meta Knight wanted to. Why doesn't he, then?

I've got a few thoughts about that, as well.

As you know, the Master Crown had a guardian, one who was protecting it fiercely without ever tapping into its true power - the dragon Landia.

Perhaps Meta Knight's role is a similar one. Not just a wielder of the Master Sword Galaxia, but its guardian. Someone who can be trusted with such immense power. He does share one more similarity with Landia, after all...

I've compared Meta Knight's and Dragon Fire Kirby's wings in the past, delighted by the similarities, and pointed out that Meta Knight's wings seem a lot more draconic than bat-like to me, what with the talons and all... So perhaps, in a roundabout way, he too could be likened to a dragon protecting its hoard, just like Landia.

Perhaps relic guardians (if indeed there is an official role like that) were selected specifically for their draconic qualities - after all, in many cultures, dragons are thought of as wise and long-lived protectors. Who better to entrust a relic with god-like powers to for safekeeping?

There's also the fact that Meta Knight seems so utterly unsurprised by anything happening in the RtD finale, outside of perhaps Magolor's betrayal itself - where everyone else is acting surprised and confused, he just takes it all in stride, like he knows what's going on and what to do about it. Like none of this is new to him. He even uses Galaxia to deflect some of Crowned!Magolor's attacks - how did he know that he'd be able to do that, unless he was a lot more familiar with this type of relic than he lets on?

I just have a lot of thoughts about Meta Knight's role in the Kirby series. I doubt HAL will ever actually confirm anything, because being "a mysterious Knight" is kind of just his Thing now, but if you look into things just a little bit, there are a lot of vague implications that hang around him.

Maybe none of this means anything, and it's all just conjecture. But it's fun to think about, in any case. It could make for some interesting headcanons, if nothing else.

(There's also the fact that Void Termina summons the Master Crown for one of its attacks, so what does that mean for the Master Sword? And Meta Knight's own implied relationship with Void? The rabbit hole just keeps going and going!)

Kirbys Dreamland 2 Iceberg EXPLAINED!! not rlly lol. World 4's set is done! I planned the first half of these in advance but the rest are totally slapdash/made up the same day I drew them. That includes Ice Dragon! I decided against drawing him as a human and instead drew him as this sorta polar dinosaur/dragon thingy. Idk, I thought it was cute. He's the only fully animalistic boss I'm going to draw for KDL2, though.

My consistency is improving I think! Tomorrow will be my 50th day of the challenge, and I have not been late once! I'm really proud of myself, this is more than I've EVER done for ANY inktober or similar prompt list!!!

following up on the idea that if the Dream Team can unlock the lock on Magolor's charm hes able to join the group as a party member. Hes still very limited on what he can tell the gang about the game but now at least has a bit more autonomy to assist in more ways than just being a hint giver.

With a land and swimming mode, he can have fun on land and sea. Even if he's a bit anxious with new people.

My tier list for Kirby characters based on how much I like them

Here is my list!

I don't think I need to explain Kirby's placement, lol.

Susie is just amazing. She's cute and is a techie and has a gun and sings and canonically loves ice cream lol, she has so many qualities. Also her backstory is agonizing, she could really use a hug after everything that's happened to her.

Gooey is such a good boi. He's so silly and cute. He's like the perfect thing to give head-pats to. He's also quite relatable, not gonna lie.

Marx and Magolor.... yo... my backstabbing prankster bois!

Taranza is a wonderful wizard spider that's also uuhhhhh very tragic. He could also really use a hug after what he's been through.

Ice Dragon is just a big cute squishy blue dinosaur and I love it. I mean I didn't just pick my username for nothing, that and I chose it to stand out because I barely see this thing get fandom love. Would've been cool if it was more of a character on par with the dream friends than the way it's been utilized, though.

I have to talk about the Fenris theme I CAN'T DO THIS anymore.

The composition. Its main motif taken straight from Mage Pride. The way you can hear his story unfolding in the music. The fucking emotion I get from the strings?? The gentle plucking contrasted with the solemn violin constrasted with the grittiest string performance I've heard in my life. I can feel this track on the inside of my chest clawing it's way out. I can see Fenris when I hear this. Meeting him in the alienage. The mansion. His sword and his black armor. I'd be on the ground WAILING about this if I could. Some fucking applause for Inon Zur, good GRIEF.

Side note, if anyone knows what the mystery string instrument used in Fenris' Theme (and much of the DA2 OST generally) is, I'd love to know! I've seen some comparisons to an Erhu or Sarangi, but I'm not finding a concrete answer. The Sarangi sounds closer to me, but I'm no authority on these things.
