Wilbur: the ultimate unreliable narrator

A stream of consciousness analysis of Wilbur’s character on the Dream SMP and the stuff I’m afraid people are going to try to gloss over.

Spoilers from Wilbur’s May 5th lore stream, though I hopped in partway through so I haven’t seen the very beginning.

This is stuff that I genuinely believe people need to pay attention to if they want to at all understand Revivebur-- I was very disconcerted about him until today’s stream and I connected some dots.

We shouldn’t be surprised.

Wilbur Soot, as in content creator and real person, confirmed a long time ago that the dream smp was full of unreliable narrators, including and starting with his own character. We knew that. His character crumbled before our eyes, but we focused on it wrong-- and we were supposed to. We did what we were molded to do.

Now, I came in late with a lot of things on the Dream SMP. I resisted joining the fandom despite my TikTok FYP until I got trapped by an audio pertaining to Tommy and Vilbur (it was a “let’s be the bad guys” audio). I arrived post November 16th, maybe two weeks later, in that lull period where Ranboo, Philza, and many others were getting onto their feet, Wilbur was dead, and Ghostbur was a full cast member.

And I fell in LOVE with Ghostbur, immediately.

He got me into the DSMP. His character was so rich, and complex, and simple at the same time to the point of fascination. I was able to watch him and understand him, then click off clips of him and figure out who the hell Wilbur was. I filled in the gaps. I watched the story of L’manberg unfold in front of me, its rise and its fall.

And I loved it! I really, really loved it. Wilbur’s character arc sang to me, as a deeply angsty spiral full of power and the need for control to the point of lacking any of it.

But when, a couple days ago, Wilbur got revived, it felt wrong.

I didn’t know why I was so hesitant. I love Ghostbur, and preferred him over Alivebur, sure, but I had liked Wilbur. What had changed? Why did I feel so deeply and viscerally uncomfortable?

The answer, of course, was Quackity. Or more specifically, his lore.

Up until the flashback to the L’manberg era, Wilbur fans had seen the ‘unreliable narrator’ tag as one similar to the way everyone else played it-- the character doesn’t know that they are being unreliable, because everyone experiences things subjectively and we’re shaped by that. That Wilbur’s narration was solely influenced by his deteriorating state of mind.

But then Quackity was shown talking to President Wilbur, what many thought of as the Golden Age, our Wilbur… and it was all wrong.

Not only did this Wilbur not talk like the Wilbur we knew then, he didn’t talk like any Wilbur we had ever seen. Revolutionary Wilbur stood for peaceful discooperation, for bloodlessly removing himself from the SMP and only striking when struck (similar to Ranboo in that sense).

Vilbur was insane, we had all agreed, and he was violent to a point, but never this bluntly. He was wrapped up in himself so much that he was self-destructive more than outwardly hurting anyone else.

But here was Wilbur, canonically, advising Quackity to take the fight to the power. To hurt and to maim, and that the strategies that got Wilbur into power didn’t work.

And it made me uncomfortable, because that wasn’t Wilbur.

But it turns out we were looking at Wilbur all wrong.

When cc!Wilbur told us that there were unreliable narrators, he meant that even the ‘flawed story’ that we were getting was wrong.

The Wilbur we saw wanted a peaceful place to live. He wanted to raise his son and live with his found family by a lake.

Today, we were told that that dream was simply a farce-- but he didn’t want power, simply to take it away.

L’manberg was a tool, a vessel. It was a way of “sticking it to the man” (Dream), a way of rebellion against someone who was unjust. He couldn’t care less about its actual contents, only what it meant. When we wept at the walls falling under Schlatt, under the hand of his own son, he didn’t care. And if he DID care, it was about the fact that Fundy had joined ‘the man’ (Schlatt).

But I think that Wilbur realized that he was the new ‘man’ after all. He was kicked out of L’manberg, sure, but it was by his rules and because of the power he had created. He had, to be a cliche, become everything he sought to destroy, minus the inherent oppression that he felt Dream held.

When I thought of Revivebur, I was so uncomfortable because I was looking at a character that, quite frankly, didn’t add up. I was looking at Alivebur and the person who talked to Quackity and I couldn’t understand how they could be the same person, but that’s the point. They aren’t. The Wilbur we saw, the one we watched fight and scream and die for a chunk of land, never existed.

We were played like we were supposed to be.

Wilbur was never the big, valiant hero he acted like. It was always Tommy. He just wanted something and was getting really into, essentially, the bit. Like a person playing DnD who gets legitimately attached to the storyline. But at the end of the day, he didn’t need it.

Can you imagine playing Dungeons and Dragons, but the NPCs were sentient? Can you imagine putting your heart and soul into a character, so much like you, and falling in love with the people that surround you? But in your heart you know that it is just play, and that they cannot know. And then you leave. Wilbur, essentially, left his fully sentient DnD game running without him.

We were fed a cohesive, in-depth character. Wilbur, our Wilbur. The kid who grew up with mixed feelings and was the storybook hero turned villain against those he once thought with. But all this time, we were just seeing what he wanted us to see. And maybe he started to believe it, because just because it wasn’t true doesn’t mean that he was trying to hurt everyone. He cared, truly, about the people he was with, but not the same way we thought. Every concrete emotion we experienced was a detailed lie that we filled in for ourselves.

After all, Wilbur plays solitaire.

A/N: this didn’t fit into the rant above, but Wilbur’s character isn’t stagnant, he just always needs power and it always creates the same dynamic! It can feel weird seeing the server kinda pull back full circle energy wise to L’manberg with developed characters, but his power rise and fall is just a requirement of his existence. It’s his rhythm.

Ghostbur happy ending bc i've decided i'm snatching cc!Wilbur's OC from his uncaring gremlin hands UwU

(Ft. Origins smp :D)

(Reposting for the 5th time, pls leave a lil heart or reblog if you like this, it´s been a whole ordeal to make it show up in the tags ToT )

After years of slowly fading away in limbo, ghostbur is visited by lady death and a text box with the word "respawn" pops up in front of him.

He is given two options; to stay there suffering, with no indication of ever being able to get out, OR to respawn into another world, one where theres a Tommy but not a Wilbur, he'd be leaving everything and everyone he knew behind, but is that really so bad to think of? He's practically a spectator by now.

After what felt like an eternity of pondering, he finally hits respawn.

The world he appears in is much more untouched by anyone that the dream smp was, a nice hill-y area with a village nearby. Now he is asked to choose an origin, among everything he chooses "phanthom", a (perhaps slightly grim) nod to his past life.

He soon discovers that while the nights may be harsher, with more of the undead roaming around than he's used to, this world is also much kinder, it's inhabitants being strangers to war and destruction.

Speaking of inhabitants, he met a familiar looking avian boy the other day, he had blonde hair and blue eyes, and a bright laugh ghostbur is sure he'd recognize in any universe. This Tommy is much more energetic and carefree than the one he knew, but also the same, he reminds ghostbur of the early days, before everything went bad, he's swears to mimself to not fail him this time around (a part of him reminds him he's already failed that promise before, he pushes those thoughts down as best as he can).

Ghostbur is saddened that he may never be able to go back, and wishes, prays, that everyone he left behind is able to find peace and happiness one day. But he has a purpose here, he has people who need him, people who he loves and who he is loved by, and somewhere along the line he realizes, despite it all

He's happy.

Tommy and Tubbo - An Analysis

Thats right baby we're really fuckin gonna do this,

Just so yall know, this was written on December 5th, directly after the exile.

I really wanna talk about what, I feel, has been the crux of this entire arc; Tommy and Tubbo's relationship, and how it is inherently flawed.

I know that might sound strange- after all, aren't they best friends? And yes! They are! But I think what this arc has revealed is that it wasn't the most stable or healthy relationship. Think about it- what was the source of the conflict between them? When you strip it down to the core, it was exactly what Tubbo pointed out after Tommy screwed over their negotiations. It was respect.

Tommy has never fully respected Tubbo. I don't mean to say that this was purposeful or malicious- I want to stress that Tubbo and Tommy always have genuinely loved each other and were never intentionally unkind. But the nature of their relationship had sort of developed into this protagonist-and-sidekick dynamic. Which was fine, when the two of them were on the same page! Tommy took the lead and Tubbo was happy to help, because why wouldn't he be?

The problems only started when Tubbo was put into a position of authority.

This is where the lack of respect becomes an issue. Because the one thing that has always plagued Tubbo is that he is never taken seriously. People never listen to him- least of all Tommy! Watch any discussion from any of the main plot points of this arc. Tubbo barely gets a word in edgewise in any of them, and he's the fucking president! Even when the country is in his hands, he's ignored, talked over, and dismissed. And at the center of it is Tommy, shouting over him, encouraging anyone else involved to do the same.

And while we're talking about being listened to, I wanna remind you all of something Wilbur said, back during the festival. He said that Tubbo is a yes man. Tommy was quick to deny that, to defend Tubbo- but in reality? He was right.

Tubbo isn't necessarily a good liar. In fact, he's pretty abysmal at it. But one thing he's proven himself to be good at, time and time again, is being amicable. At going along with things, at saying yes, at hiding hiding any feelings that may conflict with whoever is in charge. It's something he defaults to- just accepting that his input doesn't matter, that it's easier to shut up and nod along. And as unintentional as it may be, Tommy has consistently taken advantage of that.

The argument right before the exile is a prime example. Tubbo was clearly opposed to the war plan. He said so, many times, and clearly didn't want to agree! But Tommy and Quackity and Fundy refused to let him speak his mind. They kept pushing, they made it clear that they wouldn't take no for an answer, and finally Tubbo defaulted- he said yes, because that's what they wanted from him. That's what they expected from him.

Of course, this was purely unintentional. Tommy undoubtedly never considered that the way he treated Tubbo was hurtful. But then, that's the point, isn't it? He never considered that. He never stopped to think about what Tubbo wants, how Tubbo feels about things, because why would he? Tubbo is just going to agree and be fine, isn't he?

This becomes more outwardly malicious when they talk about Tubbo's responsibility. Tommy repeatedly brings up in their arguments that he didn't want Tubbo to be president. That Tubbo wasn't his first choice- which, honestly, is kind of just mean on it's own. But he also reminds Tubbo that L'Manburg is on his shoulders now, that he can't afford to mess up- in between telling him that he can't possibly entertain the idea of exiling him. He creates this vicious double standard; never letting Tubbo really speak his own mind, yet putting all of the pressure and culpability on him for the fallout. Expecting Tubbo to be fine with taking the blame for what he does and wants. Expecting everything to stay as it always has been.

And that's where the discs come in.

When they argue, Tommy always says the same thing- that it's always been him and Tubbo versus Dream, that it's always been about the discs. And that is exactly the issue. That's where Tommy's ignorance shines through. He always assumed that he knew what Tubbo wanted and what Tubbo cared about. He assumed that Tubbo stuck with him because he wanted the discs as much as he did. But that was never the case.

Ranboo made a very astute comment towards the end of Tubbo's vod- about how the discs don't actually have a physical meaning, but that they're more of a symbol. That the discs have always represented power. They represent the struggle between Dream and Tommy for control. The fight between Dream and Tommy has always been about power, from the start.

But as Tubbo tells Ranboo, earlier in their talks- he doesn't care about power. He never has. (This is mostly my reasoning for why I don't really like the concept of Tubbo "being the next Schlatt", but that's a different conversation...) He didn't ask to be president. He was thrust into power- into responsibility- that he never wanted. He doesn't even want to keep the presidency! He fully intends for it to be passed on to Ranboo in the election.

No- For Tubbo, it was never about the discs. It was never about power. It was only ever about Tommy.

When Tommy went to war with Dream over the discs, Tubbo didn't help because he wanted them. He helped because it was Tommy, because this was what Tommy wanted and what would make him happy, so of course Tubbo would help- how could he not? And when Tommy joined L'manburg and the revolution, Tubbo joined, too- not necessarily because he wanted to separate from the SMP, but because it was what Tommy wanted, and he could help, so he did. And when Tommy and Wilbur were exiled? Tubbo put aside his morals, everything he stood for, to become a rebel spy. Because Tommy needed him to. Then, they won the war, and L'Manburg was still destroyed. Tubbo was the president of a crater- and he started to rebuild, from the ground up. Because Tommy told him he had to.

Tommy kept talking about how much he sacrificed for L'manburg, but hadn't Tubbo made sacrifices, too? Time and time again, Tubbo has put aside everything he had or wanted for Tommy. He's lost his house, his pets, everything he cared about, over and over. And it was always for Tommy.

Tommy was all Tubbo had ever cared about. He always had been. But what Tubbo realized, as he was standing on that wall, was that Tommy didn't feel the same way. That Tommy would always choose the discs over him. That Tommy cared more about power than he did about his best friend.

And that, in the end, is why Tubbo chose to exile Tommy.

Tubbo knew that the war wouldn't end well. He knew that Tommy was leading them into another hopeless battle. He knew that once again, he was going to have to sacrifice everything he had and cared about for Tommy's discs. For a stupid power struggle he doesn't even have a part in.

But this time, the choice was his. He could choose to hold on to something. He could choose to stop, and think, and do things his way. Being in exile isn't fun, but Tommy knows how to take care of himself. He'll be fine, and Tubbo knew that. He didn't exile him out of malice. He did what, in his mind, he had to do.

Because Tubbo knows first hand that Tommy won't just go down with his ship- he'll drag anyone he can down with him, kicking and screaming, no matter how many times he has to. He'd burn L'Manburg to the ground if it meant he got those discs, and Tubbo knows that. He wasn't wrong when he said Tommy is a liability. Tommy's priorities are with his vendettas- Tubbo's is with his people. This was where their paths had to diverge.

The separation is going to be interesting. I think it will be an incredibly good opportunity for character development. And I also see this whole arc as an amazing stress-test.

People keep talking about how Tommy and Tubbo's friendship will never be the same, but I don't think that's a bad thing. I think that however long it takes, in the end, Tommy and Tubbo will make amends, build again, and be better off for it.

After all- Tubbo still has Tommy's last disc, doesn't he?

1. An End Avatar (TW, Numb/Apathetic Mindset)

He’s a reaper. An immortal. You only live once but life’s become, not meaningless, more like desaturated. He doesn’t care in a cheery “oh well” way. He’s pretty chill about it. He’s extremely chill about it. He is disturbingly chill about it. At first it seems great, he’s just a nice chill guy! No evil schemes or vicious plots. Just spending time with him seems to calm your nerves. And then you spend more time and you begin to understand why, things aren’t as important as you make them seem. You catastrophize a lot. Then a catastrophe happens and you’re not... upset. Why... why would you be? It doesn’t matter. It really doesn’t. It won’t in a hundred years and it doesn’t now. would end the same anyways. And then he starts to be less and less relatable. Why is he so happy? Why does he bother to go meet people and smile and eat or laugh or frown. You can’t belive you ever complained that he was so mild about everything, any amount is more than is worth. Why bother? Why... bother...

2. A Vast Avatar (TW, Heights?)

He just fucking tosses people into the sky instead of being upset with them. Do anything he doesn’t like? SWOOSH. It’s to the point it’s not even a malicious thing, it’s just routine. He gets up, goes to the store, picks up some groceries, sends a person who cut in line to a void of dusk with swirling black clouds where you fall so long you can’t tell if you’re flying up or down or left or right, maybe gets some mints, goes home, puts groceries away, does the dishes, etc.

Tubbo

1. A Corruption Avatar (TW, Body Horror Surrounding Lungs, Swarming Insects, Implied Murder.)

He has bees in his lungs and he loves them very much. If he ever gets something stuck in his throat or has water go down the wrong pipe he will FEAK OUT. He often has to cough up honey (and sometimes bees). It’s... a process. He just sits over a bucket or jar and hacks his little heart out. He sometimes saves the honey and offers it to people. Amazingly, his friends never take him up on the offer. Unsuspecting people who don’t know the.. supernatural origin of the honey find they have some... unpleasant side effects. (Bees. The side effect is bees. Specifically ones trying to fly down their throat.) Oh well, being a part of a hive isn’t for everyone. The really unfortunate ones make good fertilizer for his flowers, though! His lungs are literally a hive. If you tried to listen to his heartbeat you’d hear buzzing. He will sometimes hold flowers over his open mouth to let the bees get some easy pollon. He doesn’t usually actively seek out “prey” but when he is trying to feed on that good old fear he’ll act super sweet, too sweet, and then open his mouth and let the bees fly out. He mocks people as their own reflection, hopping from pond to mirror to camera to scream at them (sometimes literally) that they do not know who they are. It starts off subtle (Wasn’t your hair a bit longer? Weren’t your eyes a shade lighter? Did you always have that birthmark?”) but grows and changes until it gets to the point you stand in front of a mirror and every time you blink you look completely different. You feel your face, you look at your hands, but it’s no help. They change too fast. Your pictures change too, every single post on all your social media looks like different people posted it- wait... did you always have this platform? You don’t remember ever using it before. You have so many posts... none of them match up. You throw your phone away, noticing you never had the case on it. You turn to real photos for help but they are none. Of course not. You feel like just giving up as you shuffle through photo after photo, you don’t know what you really look like, so what? But then something catches your eye. A photo of you in the 5th grade concert. You don’t remember going to that school. You’ve never played an instrument, have you? Something screams yes and no at the same time. You throw the box down and grab your phone. You need to call someone. You pace throughout a house you recognize less and less searching for clues, reminders, as the phone rings. Your best friend answers. You throw the phone down again. You don’t have a best friend. You’ve never really been one for friends. No, that’s not true, you had a few really good ones but you’ve grown apart. No, that’s not true, you only have one real friend, your boyfriend. No, you don’t have a boyfriend, just a close friend. No, you have many friends just none that are close enough for this bullshit. You stop. No. No you don’t like swearing, do you? Do you? Who are you? Who are you? Your reflection laughs. It’s eating popcorn and making you do a stupid dance. What a bitch.

3. A Flesh Avatar (TW, Body Horror Surrounding Faces and Skin)

You’re a piece of meat, he’s a piece of meat, everyone’s meat. Like Chicken Nuggets.He’ll steal your face right off it’s skull and dance with one in each hand. He’ll put words in your mouth like you’re a puppet with bones. He’ll make you say the dumbest shit because it’s funny. Even when it’s obviously not YOU talking.

Technoblade

1. A Hunt Avatar (TW, Stalking/Genocide)

Many people have suggested a slaughter avatar but I don’t see it. Yeah, he kills (blood for the blood god and all that) but I don’t see it. The Slaughter is about the moment. The unplanned snap. The sudden outbursts. I don’t see that in techno. You know what I DO see that also involves quite a bit of bloodlust? The chase. The planning, the target, the unstoppable dread and panic that overtakes his victims once they realize who is after them. The power. Calculated genocide of victim after victim. The HUNT. My two pain points of evidence: His potato war videos, that time he took over the world, and his stalking speech to Quackity. Go watch an animatic of Technoblade chasing down Quackity and tell me he is not a Hunt Avatar.

Wilbur

1. A Desolation Avatar (TW, Abuse/Torture)

Everything he touches burns and hurts. Sometimes it’s on purpose, sometimes on accident, but either way he’s caught up in enjoying the drama. I’m gonna be honest, my main inspiration was the Villainbur aesthetic but the more I thought about it the more it made sense. Look at nearly any of his 100 player videos; designed to create maximum pain for hs enjoyment. Even the Dream SMP where he was mostly a good guy and more tragic than anything else fits. Maybe that Villain Arc was his first dabble as an avatar of destruction and pain. Even making his own father kill him could have been along the lines of “how can I milk as much despair out of this as possible.”

TommyInnit

1. A Slaughter Avatar (TW, Straight Up Murder)

Now HERE is a character right up that slaughter’s alley. No thoughts, not plans, just unbridled passion and rage and violence. He just stabs people whenever he feels like it (which is often) sometimes just with sticks. Like a rabid raccoon just jumps straight at people’s faces out of nowhere, always starting shit and stoking fires to make people angry at each other.

2. A Buried Avatar (TW, small tight spaces)

Tunnels and caves and sticks and spots. He’ll burry you under a mountain, he’ll lock you in a tree. Dirt man. His usual MO is trapping people under an avalanche of stones and rocks and rubble. Basically just lava casting your bones. Everything he makes is ugly but not just in a ”that’s literally a pile of rocks in the middle of the road” way in a bit of an indescribable “looking at that makes me feel like I’m breathing in straight gravel.”

Bonus: Ranboo as a Dark Avatar/Victim. He is not a willing avatar like Jude or Helen, he’s more along the lines of Oliver and Jon.

I’ve finally realized what c!Wilbur might’ve meant on his May 5th stream. (Long post)

Towards the end, before he finds c!Quackity’s book at his revival spot, Wilbur mentions getting back into the saddle. That “I can rebuild “

Keep in mind, this is after off and on all stream he said he didn’t actually care about L’manberg.

He’s rebuilding his credibility.

He’s working to an end goal obviously, he’s had nearly 14 years to plan. And a little tidbit he mentioned to Q earlier leads me to the possibility that he could genuinely be working with a step by step plan.

Step 1: survey what changed, familiarize yourself with the new builds and people of the SMP.

- he’s been, according to today’s stream, wandering around the whole server. It’s why he was so shocked he ‘hadn’t found las nevadas before’

- literally every interaction he’s had with Tommy has involved some catch up on new people. He’s just learned a bit on foolish today, he picked Ranboos brain. Etc..

Step 2: rebuild credibility

Let’s face it, Wilbur is a strong person in his speech, which is why people followed him so willingly.

But after blowing up your country? That you had them fight for? They aren’t gonna be too keen on you hanging around.

Solution? Play to what they want to hear.

Jack’s the biggest victim of this rn, Wilbur is probably one of the only people to ever apologize to him. Which is all (I believe) he ever really wanted. Someone to acknowledge that he’s been hurt/ they hurt him. That his feelings are valid.

Even today (5/31) Wilbur kept saying how he needed to find people to apologize and thank.

Step 3: Visit Dream.

Brain goes “BRRR” a lot

I have emerged from my sleep with what is probably the 5th or 6th au that has enough sense I could write a fanfic on it.

All 5/6 of these ideas are for Dream Smp, all basically SBI/Tommy centric ovo

So, you may be wondering what all 5/6 au’s are and I’m here to tell you briefly about each.

1. Tommy is caught in the explosion of L’Manberg, greatly changing the events cuz Wilbur in his lil crazy moment notices Tommy and it just kinda yeets him back to sanity and he’s like, “Oh fuck, my baby bro-” (Techno also be like :0)

I didn’t actually write the info for that one down anywhere, it just lives rent-free in my brain and won’t leave me alone

2. Gremlin/Imp Tommy AU, quite self explanatory but I was actually trying to draw refrences for this but kept forgetting how to draw midway through XD

Tommy do not like people to know he a lil gremlin because he hates that side of him. He was also super clingy as a child because I say Philza helped him and he just refused to let go. This au 100% came to my brain after seeing the zombie child Philza named Tommy on a stream lololol

Analysis of Dream’s Lore Video- Dream SMP: The Revival Book...

Disclaimer, all people mentioned here are their characters.

This post got long so I’m putting in a read more.

First off, trying to establish a time frame for when this takes place. We know it has to be before the disc confrontation (January 20th) but how long before that did Dream discuss the book with Punz after getting it supposedly on November 5th. Unfortunately, I don’t think we can’t use the map from the video to give a sort of “era” on when it occurs as it looks like the map was made just as a kind of prop for the lore video. I say this because looking at it (0:27 of the video), the grid used for Doomsday is visible but looks overgrown, which we know is something that occurs after Dream is placed in prison. Lazarbeam and Vikkstar both join the smp on November 23rd and I believe the last time that they are seen is Dec. 12th. So since it appears that Dream and Punz go straight from their discussion to chasing down the two, it would appear our earliest guess to the beginning of the timeline would be sometime after Vikk’s stream on that day. If I had to guess, this discussion between Dream and Punz also likely occurred after Dream stated that Punz would need to make it appear as though he was against Dream which I think was December 17th. This makes our time frame most likely start around December 17th and end January 19th (as he likely wouldn’t have the time to perform the experiments the day of the confrontation) assuming that nothing is changed within the plot. Now, for the actual commentary on the video.

Okay, the video starts with Dream and Punz plotting how to test that the revival book works. This shows that they are already seemingly making plans together and gives more backing to them planning ahead for the disc confrontation. Punz is being the voice of reason in this scene, pointing out how just a person dying will be noticed by those close to them. Dream then tries to offer people who could easily written off as an accident and lists Phil since he’s old and I would guess because we know that he’s odd in that he only has one life. Punz rightfully shoots this idea down. Had Dream actually done this and it been found out by Techno, then it would have ruined all chance of Dream getting that favor back and subsequently escaping the prison as Phil is one of the things that Techno holds closest to his heart.

Punz says that “no one would have to die” if the revival book works which Dream points out isn’t true, as they cannot let someone live after the experiments since the person would blabber about it if they were allowed to live after. It makes sense that Dream comes to the idea of using Vikk and Lazar as they were fairly isolated and mainly only interacted with each other and occasionally Hbomb. Not to mention he had recently interacted with them (Vikk’s December 8th stream) so they’d be more easy to recall. Side note, that chase scene is hilarious cause the speed at which minecraft characters run is not anywhere near fast enough to display the sense of panicked urgency that I’m sure those two were experiencing.

After the capture of Vikk and Lazar, we cut to a shot of a building that I don’t think has been shown before. It looks like it may be located in a spruce forest of some kind based on the shape of the trees in the background. I’m not gonna commentate on the use of the end rods here since I believe that they’re only being used as decorations to illustrate their story and not actually hold any lore behind them, since I can see they did they used lightning rods in the shot (1:41) too which were unavailable at that time. We now go through a rapid viewing of some of the deaths Vikk and Lazar go through. There are more than three deaths that are shown/implied within the video so we have to assume that the two were revived over and over to test every conceivable death method Dream and Punz could think of. The following are the death methods we see them endure:

Splash Potion

End Crystal Explosion (We can also see Lazar shaking his head as if pleading for Dream to stop during this scene. Interestingly I don’ think anyone has attempted to or discussed using crystals since the Manburg vs Pogtopia war. I also want to point out that you do not need to go to the end to create one since I saw some confusion on that earlier.)

Drowning (we don’t actually see the death but we can presume)

Squished Via Anvil

Rocket Launcher (again not seen but assumed)

Interestingly, Punz seems like more of a bystander during this as only Dream is seen getting involved in player caused deaths. After the death montage, we see Dream perform the ritual to revive someone. It appears that a book needs to be sacrificed in lava to revive someone. This gives a new light onto Dream allowing the books within the prison cell and his apparent fascination he held with the lava around it. The maximum prison cell was literally engineered in a way to allow for someone to be revived there. Given that Punz was there throughout all of this and watching, I have to assume that Punz also holds the knowledge on how to revive someone. Perhaps this was a backup in case things didn’t go according to plan and the rest of the server killed Dream when confronting him.

Now we see the clip of Dream and Ranboo. On closer review I can see someone placing tnt and obsidian while invisible. It should be noted that the invisibility particles are not coming specifically off the Ranboo we see standing there in the clip, but whoever is going down the line of tnt, igniting it on the clip that’s layered over this. I definitely believe that they blocks we see floating around are supposed to be the main cell as we see the lectern and chest followed by the blocks that form the cell (we also see a bell, lol). Like I said in my last post, I believe this was a reference to when Ranboo went to confront Dream in the prison, but it ended with the prison collapsing around and on him. I also state in the tags of my last post why I still have my doubts of the tnt being him.

The next clip is of Bad handing something to Ranboo behind the Bee and Boo Hotel, which are either what they look like, maps, or them using maps as a makeshift for a letter since it looks like writing. If they are maps, are they the ones for the layout of the prison? Because the maps we saw Techno get look differently than what was handed over. Initially, we see the maps without any scribbles on it, however this could have been that they just didn’t have the images yet, so they just named a bunch of maps and stuck them in there for the stream. However, in the jailbreak video we see that the scribble on the maps are blue instead of black. Again though, this could just be that the maps in Dream’s video are props and shouldn’t be viewed with such scrutiny.

That’s all my thoughts right now and I probably have some more that I’ll add on later, but this is currently just what I have off the top of my head. I’m excited to see where the story goes, but I need to call it a night cause it’s 5 am lol. Just remember, the fact that Vikkstar and Lazarbeam appear to be permadead after being revived and killed once more means Dream and Punz have full knowledge on how many lives someone revives with.

Alivebur Has A Crush Analysis

Alivebur is a character who has been through the highs and lows of life. We have seen him lead, we have seen him fall, and we have seen him come back and try his best. What we have not previously seen, however, is Alivebur in love. In the last few streams from his POV, his interactions with Quackity have stepped into the realm of possibility that to Alivebur, this is more than a simple rivalry. Therefore, this analysis will explore Alivebur's possible crush on Quackity by going through the streams to show development, and looking in depth at expressions.

The Book

When Alivebur takes the Project Nevadas book from the chest, he regards it and Quackity's name softly, sounding emotional, almost like he's on the verge of tears - especially as he says 'my kinsman':

“Quackity… My, my old rival! My… my kinsman. We’ve been through a lot, we went through a lot together. And I- And I-” - (Wilbur’s resurrected gentleman of L'manburg: 1:02:11, 5th May)

It's a very emotional line, and truly the first time during the 5th May stream that Alivebur seems genuinely comfortable, suggesting that this is the first time he realises that Quackity is the only one (from his perspective) who isn't afraid of who he was before he died.

Furthermore, it suggests this is where he first gets the hope that Quackity sees him as human.

He even reads the book with a gentle tone, suggesting that he thinks Quackity wrote it with a softness.

In the 31st May stream, Alivebur still has the book on him, and keeps the contents to himself, at first, stopping midsentence as he begins to read it to Tommy.

“Let me read you the book, let me read you the book. ‘My dearest friend, Wilbur’. Uh. And then there’s just some other stuff.” – (Wilbur’s A Deck of Cards with a Green Smile on them: 14:53, 31st May)

Due to him having no idea he was going to be up against Quackity yet, it is likely he kept it to himself because it was too personal to share - only later showing it to Tommy as a plea to why he shouldn't join Quackity.

In between reading the first part and uttering 'uh', Alivebur opens his mouth to say more, but no words come out. As if he couldn't physically read it.

Then he goes on to 'read' Tommy the book, except he makes up the contents. What is interesting here, is how he seems to slip:

“It says: ‘My dearest friend, Wilbur. I’ve really missed seeing you. Come to Project Nevadas. Your best friend, Quackity.’ He’s not my best friend, Tommy, don’t worry, that would be you.” – (Wilbur’s A Deck of Cards with a Green Smile on them: 16:28, 31st May)

Tommy has pushed him for what's inside the book, so Alivebur 'gives in' and starts to read it, coming up with what he's saying on the fly. The slip? 'Your best friend', we know in the 25th July stream that one of Alivebur's goals seems to be Quackity being his friend, making this line all the more obvious that this is something Alivebur wants, to be Quackity's friend, and to be on his side.

When he gets rejected from Las Nevadas, he opens up the book like he's trying to make sense of it:

Because Alivebur took it as a call, took it as an invitation to join Quackity and be on his side - something that Alivebur seems to want. Perhaps because it would be a place to belong, a side to stand with, someone to stand alongside who isn't afraid of him.

Hence why he was petty and challenged Quackity, because he was rejected by the only person who Alivebur thinks regards him as a human.

Alivebur keeps the book on him in the following stream, Healthy Competition. Where, in the middle of talking to Phil, while looking in his inventory, he gets distracted by the book, losing track of what he was saying as he looks at it:

This suggests that Alivebur is keeping the book on him because it's precious, and because he's yearning. It isn't something he's keeping safe in an Ender chest like he used to do with history books, but rather something he's keeping on him, almost like he's keeping it close to his heart.

It's personal, enough to distract him in the middle of a conversation in a way we haven't seen from Alivebur before.

When he's making plans, he doesn't get distracted easily, usually sticking to the point, but here, he trails off in the middle of a sentence, pulls the book into his hand, struggles to open it, and looks for just a second before putting it away.

It's definitely not something that Alivebur would do at all, and is certainly new. Which, in turn, heavily suggests a crush because it is something we've never seen before.

Later in the stream, as Alivebur tosses the named steaks over to Ranboo, Alivebur pulls the book into his hand again. His expression drops almost, he stops in a sense, eyes dipping down. There's a sadness this time:

Like a sad longing. Perhaps the book is a reminder too, of what he truly wants, to be alongside Quackity, to be his dearest friend like it says.

While Alivebur doesn't look at the book in the 3rd and 4th Aug streams, he does still have it on him, showing that he does indeed keep it on him at all times. Evidently, the book is very important to him.

Therefore, due to all this, it can be heavily suggested from the book alone that Alivebur has a crush. Keeping it on him at all times, regarding it softly, being unable to share the contents at first, looking at it with a longing or a sad yeaning, all show that the book is precious to him in a way that proves feelings.

The Crush Question

More under the cut

When Alivebur talks about how Quackity challenged him, calling the look in his eyes cool - before then admitting that he almost called it hot, Tommy proceeds to ask if Alivebur has a crush, to which Alivebur says:

“I have a complicated relationship with Big Q, but I don’t think it’s at that level yet.” – (Wilbur’s A Deck of Cards with a Green Smile on them: 44:55, 31st May)

There is a lot to this line, for example, 'complicated relationship' suggests, within this context, that he's referring to their very colourful past, where they were political rivals, allies, perhaps friends, and also almost lovers.

Considering that Alivebur says he doesn't think it's at the level of a crush yet does indeed suggest that he is aware of his attraction and/or feelings for Quackity.

We know from Niki's birthday party that Alivebur had feelings for Quackity then:

“Sometimes, uh, you know, my, my, my feelings towards some people... in this room get the better of me.” - (Karl's Dream SMP with Niki: 1:46:37, 2nd Nov)

During that pause, that ellipsis, Alivebur looks straight at Quackity before continuing. It is clear that at this point he did have feelings, hence why he kissed Quackity, and why later in that stream he sang songs of love and hate to him. Complicated relationship indeed.

So, 'complicated relationship' possibly does refer to all their past, to everything they've been, or almost been. That paired with him thinking his feelings aren't at the level of a crush yet - at this point - does heavily suggest that this is something that is progressing.

Either he will later realise his feelings have gotten to the level of a crush, or that it's been a crush for a while, but the important part here, is the use of 'yet', he's expecting it.

In turn, Alivebur's answer to Tommy's question does suggest the existence of feelings already, as well as Alivebur acknowledging it can become a crush.

Crush Behaviour

In recent streams it has become increasingly evident that Alivebur is behaving like he has a crush already. Even in the first stream where this becomes evident - the 31st May one - he displays signs of a crush.

To begin, one of the most evident signs of a crush from the 31st May stream are the longing sighs:

It's the way he sighs with his whole chest. The way he's trying to speak but sighs instead, as if that's all he can say, as if it conveys everything he feels.

The lines the sighs coincide with are interesting to note too:

“He’s, he’s um, he’s, I guess my, my yang. He’s the yang.” – (Wilbur’s A Deck of Cards with a Green Smile on them: 47:56, 31st May)

The first sigh takes place between 'he's um' and 'he's', and only then gets out what he wants to say, that Quackity's his yang. Which, from that, it can be suggested that the sigh comes from thinking about Quackity as his light, his other half, as something he can't exist without, something like a soulmate. Because that's what 'his yang' suggests on its own, but paired with the sigh, it shows how he's thinking about it, and from the tone, he's also longing for it.

And then there's the line for the second sigh:

“Because when you’ve got people like Quackity over there, who are just- You know, he said it best, I’m not gonna talk shit about him behind his back.” – (Wilbur’s A Deck of Cards with a Green Smile on them: 1:10:00, 31st May)

Here the sigh takes place when Alivebur cuts himself off after the 'just'. It's more of a breathed sigh, and it has a 'aw' sound to it. There is a feeling of more attraction here than longing. He's thinking about Quackity again and then sighs like this, almost in a happy way. It's almost got an amazed feel to it, as if that's how he feels when thinking of Quackity here.

Then he goes on to say he's not gonna talk shit about him behind his back, which also indicates a crush type behaviour, because while he's setting himself up to be Quackity's rival, he stops himself from doing what most would when they're against someone.

The sighs aren't the only part of the 31st May stream that have a crush behaviour feeling to them. This is also clear when Tommy asks if Alivebur and Quackity were kissing.

He nervously laughs after Tommy asks, and stares at Quackity, with his hand over his mouth. The nervous laugh suggests that Alivebur does feel something towards this question, something positive but guarded, hence his hand over his mouth, and why he stares at Quackity.

And then he deflects. He doesn't answer Tommy's question, he just changes the subject. It's clear from this that he's hiding his true feelings here.

“No, I don’t think I wanna kiss him. It’s um…” – (Wilbur’s A Deck of Cards with a Green Smile on them: 50:29, 31st May)

This is backed up by him saying he doesn't think he wants to kiss Quackity. He clearly has some complicated feelings about it, hence the use of 'think' instead of just leaving it as no.

Evidentially, there is some guarded part of Alivebur that isn't sure what to feel about kissing Quackity, but judging by the use of 'think', and nervously laughing while staring at Quackity after being asked if they were kissing, it seems like he's thought about it.

The next blatant crush behaviour happens in the 25th July stream as Alivebur is talking about how he met up with Quackity:

The body language here, the way he seems to fiddle with his arms, it's a very nervous thing to do, and since he's talking to Phil here, it suggests he's nervously talking about his crush to his dad.

The full line shows this even more:

“Yeah! I met up with him, and I hadn’t seen him in ages. It was, I’m gonna say it, it was nice. It was a nice time. I- I- It felt good, it felt, uh, you know, he didn’t, he didn’t seem afraid of me, which is cool.” - (Wilbur’s Healthy Competition: 7:38, 25th July)

He begins with that he hadn't seen him in ages, which is especially interesting because this is true of everyone, it's been 13 years for Alivebur, but the way he says it here makes it sound so casual, like it had just been a little while. Perhaps it suggests how human and alive he feels around Quackity.

He goes on to say it was nice, that it felt good, and how it's cool Quackity didn't seem afraid of him. Which suggests even more so of just how human and alive Quackity makes him feel, that he simply had a nice time. Especially with him saying it felt good, which shows how this isn't just an intense rivalry for Alivebur, it's something that makes him feel more positive emotions.

The most damning evidence for Alivebur's crush behaviour, however, comes from when he's waiting for Quackity on the 4th Aug stream.

“Wait here, look, I promise you, just you wait. Just you wait. Ready? Ready? Are you ready? Are- Are you- Are you ready? Um… Uh…” - (Wilbur’s Unhealthy Competition: 11:06, 4th Aug)

He expects Quackity to be there as soon as he is, but when he's not there, Alivebur begins to get nervous, um-ing and uh-ing. After two minutes of waiting around, Alivebur then proceeds to proclaim that he thinks he understands Quackity, and how his brain works, only for him to prove he doesn't give a shit:

“This guy. Ranboo, I swear to god, like I, I feel like I understand him, I feel like I know how his brain works, you know, how his- how the- how the cogs in his mind go. And then he just, and then he just goes and proves that he doesn’t give a shit.” - (Wilbur’s Unhealthy Competition: 12:56, 4th Aug)

The reason this is evident crush behaviour is because Alivebur starts getting self-conscious about how Quackity feels about him after waiting two minutes. He assumes that as soon as he arrives on the border, Quackity will be there instantly.

It's very reminiscent of real life, where some people may get self-conscious if their crush doesn't text them back immediately. Except with Alivebur, instead of a text, he turns up on Las Nevadas's doorstep and expects Quackity to drop anything he's doing to tell him to fuck off.

However, the most blatant part of this piece of evidence is when Quackity asks if they've been waiting long, to which Alivebur replies with:

“Uh, I’ve just arrived, you know, I just arri- I, I haven’t been long for you. I, I wouldn’t- Quackity, you think, you think I’d wait for you?” - (Wilbur’s Unhealthy Competition: 14:35, 4th Aug)

He pretends he's just arrived, trying to act suave, that he wouldn't wait for Quackity, just like how Quackity didn't instantly greet him the minute he turned up. He's brushing it off here, but even he himself knows that he isn't acting as smooth as he would like:

He glances away as he drinks from the bottle, then closes his eyes, scrunching up his face. It's an embarrassed 'oh god did I really just say that?' type expression. It's the type of expression you would expect to see from someone who feels like they've just embarrassed themself in front of their crush.

That's what is evident here when everything from this scene is put together, that Alivebur is acting like he has a crush.

Finally, the last bit of evidence we have right now that indicates Alivebur is expressing crush behaviour is when he says he feels alive after interacting with Quackity:

“I feel alive, Ranboo, I feel alive. Someone’s looking at me and talking to me! I’m alive, I’m alive! This is great.” - (Wilbur’s Unhealthy Competition: 27:22, 4th Aug)

You may notice here that the 'someone's looking at me' is similar to what cc!Wilbur said from Alivebur's perspective in the recent reddit comment about him (here), that 'no-one even looked at him' before he died. Alivebur is excited, even seeming to be happy, that someone is actually paying attention to him, looking at him, even if it's in a rivalry sense.

And it's only Quackity that makes him feel this way, despite Ranboo being there, talking to him. It suggests that what Alivebur is feeling with Quackity is unique, and makes him feel more than the friendship he has with Ranboo.

Most of all, the excited and stressed 'I feel alive' and 'I'm alive!' not only suggests that just talking to Quackity makes him feel alive, but that it could be making his heart beat faster every time he sees him and interacts with him.

This is implied through the line because to feel alive in this excited sense induces a reaction, and that probable reaction of feeling alive - being excited, suggests his heart is beating faster. This links back to Alivebur having a crush because when a person is around someone they have feelings for, their heart beats faster.

Lastly, in the latter half of the quote, when he says 'I'm alive!', he looks towards Las Nevadas, and sighs in what sounds like a happy tone. This shows that it is indeed Quackity that is making him feel this way.

All in all, everything from the sighs to the way Quackity makes him feel alive, does indeed suggest that Alivebur is displaying crush behaviour towards Quackity, and therefore, indicates that he has a crush.

Homoerotic Tension

Another factor that ties into the evidence that Alivebur has a crush, is the homoerotic tension he has towards and with Quackity.

The most obvious occurrence of this is when Alivebur bites his lip at the idea that Quackity won't like the burger van:

“So he didn’t like it? He didn’t like you setting up the cookie stand? … Okay. Okay. No, no, no, that’s good.” - (Wilbur’s Healthy Competition: 21:33, 25th July)

As soon as Ranboo says Quackity didn't like it, Alivebur smiles, licks his lips, and then bites his lip.

In this context, there's no anxiousness here, so the only reason he could be biting his lip is because of his attraction to Quackity. A lip bite in this sense means that Alivebur is restraining himself, as well as experiencing desire.

It's a very clear attraction to Quackity, which further shows that he is attracted to him in all senses. This is also a foundation for where his feelings are coming from, and because we know Alivebur's type (he likes a challenge and thought the look in Quackity's eyes was hot when he challenged him), it becomes evident that the lip bite is a reaction to the idea of Quackity being angry at him.

And in the 4th Aug stream, this is explicitly said:

“When you smashed the window and blew up the wall? I’d be pissed, and I bet he is, dude.” - (Wilbur’s Unhealthy Competition: 7:20, 4th Aug)

“Ohh boy! Ha ha ha ha, ha! Oh, this is good, this is- this is exactly what I want. Did you see how- Dude, dude, Ranboo, he was trying act like I didn’t get to him.” - (Wilbur’s Unhealthy Competition: 26:47, 4th Aug)

Therefore, due to Alivebur expecting Quackity to be pissed, and him saying it's exactly what he wants after interacting with him, it's clear that him smiling and biting his lip after hearing that Quackity didn't like the cookie stand, comes from wanting Quackity to be angry with him, and so, links into his type, proving his attraction to him.

This links back to his possible crush because a lip bite like this definitely isn't an expression someone would make about a friend or just a rival. Which means it's explicitly attraction to Quackity, and further suggests that him having a crush on him is very possible.

Another notable moment that shows tension in this sense is when Alivebur says Quackity is a hard man to refuse.

“But I get it, I get it, you know, Quackity… He’s a, he’s a hard man to refuse.” - (Wilbur’s Unhealthy Competition: 24:09, 4th Aug)

The reason this suggests homoerotic tension and attraction is because of what 'he's a hard man to refuse' suggests. It's as if Alivebur is saying to Quackity that he can't say no to him, which shows how he is drawn to him. It also suggests that if Quackity were to ask something of Alivebur, he would do it, as he can't refuse him easily/can't say no.

The most interesting part about this is how Alivebur has never been manipulated or persuaded by Quackity, and therefore, in Alivebur's case, this sentiment is coming from their history, and possibly refers to the rivalry they have always had. Alivebur didn't refuse Quackity from running against him during the election era, and he eagerly gunned for a rivalry once he was rejected from Las Nevadas.

All of this indicates that Alivebur saying Quackity is a hard man to refuse has romantic connotations to it and suggests attraction to him.

Overall, the homoerotic tension, and Alivebur's attraction shows how it's very likely a crush has built off this foundation, and suggests why Alivebur is so drawn to Quackity.

Conclusion

In conclusion, Alivebur has a crush due to the way he talks about and interacts with Quackity. It is clear in the way he holds the book close and regards it softly and with a longing, and how he doesn't think his feelings are at the level of a crush yet, as if he fully expects it to happen. Additionally, his yearning sighs, the way he nervously laughs as Tommy asks if they kissed, his body language when he talks to Phil about him, and how he attempts to act smooth in front of Quackity only to be embarrassed by what he said, all suggest he's behaving like he has a crush. Furthermore, biting his lip when thinking of Quackity and saying he's a hard man to refuse show his attraction, and therefore, his likely crush. Overall, Alivebur has a crush due to all these factors.
