I will never get over how much more mature Philza is in his lore than everyone else. He doesn’t have to be, he can choose his own lore, but he chooses instead for his character to always be the bigger person.
And this just goes to show how good of a storyteller he is; he knows the story requires his character to fill a supporting role and he does it without erasing his character’s complexity.
It’s not like his character is never immature, but when he is immature or lashes out, it doesn’t just affect the atmosphere, it completely changes it.
He yells at Wilbur, telling him to leave and find the eggs himself if he’s so upset about it- very much in the way an angry parent scolds a child- and for a brief moment you can feel how scared his character is, and Wilbur who was previously just confused and upset immediately becomes defensive (which benefits Wilbur’s story).
But more importantly Phil apologizes immediately after he’s calmed down, something which we don’t really see from other characters that are described as calm, cool and mature the same way he is. (being more mature isn’t a source of pride for him) It speaks volumes about who his character is, and just how long he’s been around compared to everyone else.
It shows that his character is also choosing to be the bigger person. It shows that he knows better than to wait to apologize to someone he cares about; which taken in the context of his lore can imply that he may have experience with loosing friends or allies in that way.
There’s more I could say abt this, especially with what this can imply about Wilbur and Phil’s father/son relationship, but I think that deserves its own post.

i wanna talk about the gut-wrenching fight between wilbur and phil in the maze today
as a fan of both of them
so during wilbur’s absence i have mainly stuck to phil’s pov but before that i only watched will, this is to establish where i’m coming from.
wilbur was fucked up for telling phil that he must not care about the eggs. phil was wrong for not thinking that wilbur would want further explanations.
and wilbur would have likely reacted much less rudely had he been told more than “the eggs are missing, no we don’t know where they are, we only have clues, yeah they’ve been missing a month, this maze is meant to help. maybe.” like he was not told how the maze would help, what any of it meant, what clues they had, how people were searching, none of it.
obviously we know they didn’t have time to explain any of it. there was no time to explain everything and phil was already stressed. phil gets stressed just being in the maze, he’s constantly stressed about the eggs in general, and wilbur was just not following along to the point that he needed to be lassoed. so no of course phil couldn’t explain everything.
the problem also came in that wilbur wasn’t even explained as to why they were going into the maze in the first place. he had no idea what was going on or why it was happening. so on top of that you bring him into a maze where he was already asking to leave prior to the fight because he was that uncomfortable in it. THEN you tell him his daughter is missing along with all her siblings and everyone is just in a maze?? of course he thought no one was doing anything, NO ONE TOLD HIM THEY WERE! IN FACT NO ONE EVER EVEN MENTIONED THE EGGS UP UNTIL THAT MOMENT (to wilbur).
both of their feelings were perfectly valid given their povs. not saying i agreed with q!wilbur but that his reaction made sense given the circumstances. of course what he said was rude and awful especially because he said it to PHIL. phil who has suffered in his search for the eggs. who has done everything he possibly could for the eggs. but wilbur didn’t know that and no one told him.
but i also want to talk about how they immediately apologize and forgive each other upon taking time away and doing what each set out to do. phil went through with the spy mission and wilbur conducted his own investigation. but when the spy mission was over, and the investigation came up empty, phil went to will. and he apologized for yelling and wilbur apologized for what he said. and then they stuck together, phil explained some of what they knew, and will made an effort that he hopes will work. even if phil doesn’t fully believe in it, he still let wilbur do it.
because at the end of the day, they care about each other so much and are both grieving. one has just had more time than the other.

so i read the great gatsby for english
no explanations (i dont even know why i paired these myself, this is purley off of Gut Feelings (though gatsby and tom for tntduo is because of the whole sort of rivalry showed in the Las Nevadas bit) (there was this one tweet i saw from an ao3 author who said that the characters in their fics are not the dsmp but a boiling pot of all the various interpretations of characters that they've seen throughout all fics and artwork and such) (and that's basically me for everyone except technoblade))
nick as c!ranboo daisy as c!tommy gatsby (yes, the great one) as c!wilbur tom as c!quackity wilson as c!tubbo myrtle as michael (yeah, the piglin kid)

wilbur's last words
i was rewatching the november 16 clip, and as phil picks up wilbur's things, right after killing him, wilbur speaks up again to tell him that dream had lied about the lack of a traitor and that technoblade had 8 withers in his inventory. phil panics, joins the other vc, and shares this information, and the clip ends. I want to completely rewatch the vod(s), but before i do that-
wilbur's last words. so, i'm taking his last words in this moment to be that message. and like, that imagery. phil, cradling his son's body as he breathes his last breath, and wilbur decides to happily tell phil that more destruction is to come. technoblade has more to offer. 8 withers worth of destruction, hidden away and only wilbur knew about it. The destruction of his nation, which phil had just failed to stop, isn't over.
he doesn't call himself a traitor, however. he tells the AUDIENCE earlier in the stream that he's the traitor. when quackity asks who the traitor is, wilbur looks at the camera and raises his hand. he's quiet, however, so nobody in the vc and "in canon" actually knows. he's admitting to the audience, breaking the fourth wall, to let us know the ending. But when talking to phil, he doesn't. Phil, who had just canonized that they're father and son. He still can't, when faced with a real person he's talking to, admit that he's betraying his nation. it's HIS NATION, after all. He's not betraying anything. THEY betrayed HIM. THEY cast him out. THEY changed. WILBUR is just making sure that it dies in his image, with no further damage done to HIS SYMPHONY.
he's like schrödinger's traitor or some shit. In his mind, he is both a traitor, where he embraces his role as a villain who is going against everyone, and the betrayed, where his nation cast him out and spit on him and changed. He is whatever justifies his actions at the moment, desperate to fit into the role he carved for himself and refusing to step out of it no matter how many people beg.
it's a very interesting way to interpret him, to me

Something something something about the juxtaposition of Wilbur telling Tommy they'll fight with words vs Technoblade telling Tommy the only universal language is violence.
Like, people put them together as villains for blowing up L'manberg but their characters are literally so different. cc!Wilbur and cc!Techno both did such an amazing job at writing their characters.

I have many feelings on the situation around abuse and power dynamics and assault that are coming to light at the moment. For the most part I feel that other peoples rage and statements are worded better. Though I had some thoughts and as someone who enjoyed psychoanalyzing fictional characters I have some realizations about c!Wilbur that I think some people will appreciate. Other than that Support and Listen to Victim. Don’t Put Streamers on Pedestals.
I hate how much I and so many people loved c!Wilbur for being a morally flawed traumatized mentally ill character.
The type of villain to enjoy in media but in a “I like them as a bad person. They fill the role they were written for very well.”
We took them as a “this is a bad person to enjoy through media” character. He showed the experience of how trauma and mental illness can effect relationship and morals.
I felt like I could take him as a caricature, an exaggerated form of many of my own insecurities and dark parts of myself.
BUT NO All c!Wilbur was was a self insert character of the writer’s desire for control and power over the people around him. Same with any of his other “characters” that we all thought were meant to be satire dark comedy of disgusting men in the world.
And he let us all believe this. It’s ironic the way he literally had his self insert pity oc kill himself after not having his apology accepted for all the harm he caused. How he was so distraught with having to actually work for redeeming himself more than just his words that his actions that he thought would resolved that was killing himself for a second time.
All the nuance and grey area I loved saw in c!Wilbur has been destroyed with the truth we all now see in William Gold. And that goes for so all of his artwork.
At least with this new lense on the artist we can take another view of his art and see deeper into the truth of What a Disgusting Piece of Shit this man is.

you said revivebur headcanons :)
oh indigo you’re in for it now (thank you for the ask :D)
Tumblr media
just a quick sketch to get my ideas down but I’m actually quite happy with it
more stuff under the cut cause I’m insane about him
-he wears lots of layers cause he hates being even a little cold (Pogtopia + Limbo)
-the coat is weighted cause it’s comforting
-he wears the red tinted glasses cause even sunlight is overwhelming after so long in the dark (mostly limbo but also Pogtopia)
-he has the red stitches everywhere from his revival, and he got more injuries than just the stab wound from Phil (I can go on and on about this but that’s a post for another time)
-he has the fingerless gloves to cover bandages and scars, and they’re fingerless for convenience
-the cut on his shoulder happened during limbo, and as such won’t heal
additional stuff that’s not written in the drawing!
-he has touch related trauma, he wants physical contact but cannot stand being touched especially if it’s not on his own terms
-he mentioned feeling numb after his revival canonically, and that feeling never went away, he still has a lot of the self-destructive behaviors he had during early lmanberg cause he can’t really feel it and he’s bad at taking care of himself in general (self hate babyyyyy *sobs*)
-this is canon but he hates going underground
-he fidgets with his hands/sleeves/sometimes his little head wings when he’s nervous or overwhelmed

I want to talk about Wilbur and Philza’s argument in their most recent streams. Philza yells at Wilbur, telling him to leave and find the eggs himself if he’s so upset about it- very much in the way an angry parent scolds a child- causing Wilbur, who was previously just confused and upset, to immediately become defensive, not pissy or angry; defensive.
I’ve mentioned how good Philza is as a supporting character and this is one of the places you really get to see it. Phil is still Wilbur’s father on the qsmp- the last person he should be getting defensive with, which can be taken two ways;
One: Philza is very mature character who is not easily shaken, and even as his son, Wilbur has never seen or is not used to seeing Philza so upset, which in turn is very upsetting to him, (maybe even scary if you want to go further into it). This is the more likely option as they tend to focus on the present in terms of storyline.
Or two: Wilbur is a naturally defensive person who reacts strongly to any sort of implied conflict or threat. For this you also have to consider these types of people typically have some sort of trauma if not other issues like an anxiety disorder or - I don’t know- a poor relationship with parental figures.
Which hits a lot harder when you see how gentle he is with Talulah. He doesn’t even make rules for her; he makes suggestions like ‘maybe we keep armor on outside’, and let me tell you- I am not fully convinced he would’ve done anything about it had she completely ignored him as we have seen other eggs do.
I would also like to point out the fact that Wilbur hates wearing armor, both in qsmp and in previous smps- and what is Phil’s biggest rule? Always wear your armor. The only question left being; does Wilbur hate wearing armor because of issues with Phil growing up, or does Phil have the rule specifically because of Wilbur and some sort of incident that maybe scared him as a parent.
And of course if there ever was an issue between the two in Wilbur’s childhood, it’s very obvious that by the time qsmp began, they had already started to make amends, and are now on good terms even if the effects still linger. And if I were to take a guess at the source of any of these issues, I would probably have to go with clashing personalities and also maybe Kristin’s absence assuming that he being Wilbur’s mum is still apart of the lore on the new server.

I think about these fundamental character traits and how in the process you have to reinvent core parts of them to create a happy story
C!Wilbur will always be just a little wrong; a little angry, a little misguided, a little self-centered. He’s two guns pointed at each other and eventually one will shoot. He’s acid and bad tastes in your mouth, but he’s the way a smoker loves cigarettes and what could’ve been a great man, footprints in wet sand, they came from L’Manberg, and now they follow a trail of dynamite.
He’s not a coat over your shoulders, he’s not comfort, his footing and yours will always be a little uneven- he feels guilt and sharp chills in his spine but he’s not honeysuckle, he’s bitter lime. Bitter terrible lime. He loves you, but he’s not brave enough to love himself, no matter how much you ask him to. But he’s his own person.
C!Phil- Doesn’t like these people. Nor trust them. He tolerates them but can barely stand any of them and will have them at an arms length as long as he can stand and will subtly not let them in further. He let in the Syndicate and is only himself when with them or Tommy (and he still, still, is not a fan of Tommy.)
He doesn’t invite others in, he gives them a second chance but nothing more, nothing less. He was invited to this server not welcomed. The way he talks to his own son is guarded and evident.
You can tell one character I’m more mentally ill about than the other

hot take on tallulah and wilbur’s current relationship
tallulah may finally start to move on from waiting for wilbur to come back.
she originally seemed so bitter and annoyed at wilbur for still not being there. she is tired of waiting but she still loves him. and that shone when she destroyed the poppy a day chest and no poppies came out phil telling her that will collected them. and she decided that “he does care” so she wants him to know that if he DOES show up, she cares too.
and i want to show this in my design for her, because that’s what i’ve already done. originally i drew her in an outfit that looked just like wilbur’s, then i changed it to a design that both reflected her relationship with phil giving her some blond hair and her love of wilbur with an anvil cat sweater, now it will be a sweater that reflects her personality. the flowers that she loves, the colors that she likes, because she’s her own person outside of her love for wilbur.
and that’s okay.
she still loves him. he has always loved her. but she can love her dad and love other people as father figures. and of course she can be angry and bitter, as she should be. she’s been left behind and while she knows why and understands and is even proud of him, she can still be mad about it. but she seems like she doesn’t want it to really define her anymore. she is still waiting, but not actively. it’s more of a “he’ll come if he comes”
i do wanna mention she’s been on this path for a while but i think recently is where it’s become really obvious. but she’s been moving towards this she just needed something to really push her forwards. and this all was it. and i love that for her. while knowing the admin, it’s going to be pretty angsty, it’s a development that i hope will suit her well.

“Yeah I guess I relate to c!Wilbur” (<- you should be very concerned)
Yeah something something he’s perceived as a put-together and reliable person on the outside but under the surface he’s cracking under the pressure. He has many people who love and support him but over time that love feels more like another expection to adhere to so he remains deserving of it.

「Dream SMP Daemon AU 」
♫ WILBUR SOOT + CADENZA (WOOD MOUSE) ♫
Wood mice are a socially flexible, independent, highly adaptable species of rodent, able to call nearly anywhere - urban settings, gardens, moorland, woodland, grassland, and more - their home. They rapidly colonize new terrains and will make nests in underground tunnels, inside hollow logs, nesting boxes, or in dense vegetation. Individuals nest communally in winter, and males and females may group together when sleeping for warmth. In the spring, females usually take up their own home ranges and nest alone.
During breeding season, females become very territorial and defend their ranges from other females. However, mouse burrows likely survive from one generation to the next, being expanded upon and modified as needed, and there has also been instances of cooperative burrowing documented. Wood mice are also the only other animal apart from humans to place conspicuous objects (twigs, leaves, etc.) at key points in their territory, showing a remarkable aptitude for planning and problem solving.
These mice have many predators (foxes, weasels, cats, owls and kestrels), but they have many tactics at their disposal to ensure their well-being, safety, and survival, such as making impressive leaps to safety, or shedding the skin off their tails to escape predators. They don’t hibernate during winter, but they can enter periods of torpor if conditions get tough enough.
Dominant males may be aggressive, having been reported to chase and even kill juveniles. In addition, before mating, males produce a string of ultrasounds that may pacify the female, indicating these rodents are not averse to using force or other, more underhanded means of getting what they want.
Wilbur is ambitious, charismatic, and conniving, while Caddy represents his insecure, sensitive, self-aware side.
~
NAME MEANING A cadenza is a musical term with three separate meanings. The first is a parenthetical flourish in an aria or other solo piece commonly just before a final or other important cadence. The second is a technically brilliant sometimes improvised solo passage toward the close of a concerto. Finally, a cadenza can refer to an exceptionally brilliant part of an artistic or literary work.

Hot take but people saying that c!Tommy should go to Utah/c!Wilbur should've taken him with kinda,,, defeats the whole purpose of that stream? c!Wilbur is trying to step away from everything related to L'manberg because that is what declined his mental state in the first place. Of course he cares for c!Tommy, but this is his healing arc, not theirs together.
c!Wilbur needs to heal first before anything else. If c!Tommy came along it would do more harm than good, as c!Tommy still has people back in the SMP who he cares for. c!Wilbur does too, but he's choosing to heal first instead of staying for other people. That is a big step for his character.
This isn't about "them being together", it's about c!Wilbur taking a step back and finally letting himself heal from the cycle of self-destruction he created.
