Wilbur: the ultimate unreliable narrator

A stream of consciousness analysis of Wilbur’s character on the Dream SMP and the stuff I’m afraid people are going to try to gloss over.

Spoilers from Wilbur’s May 5th lore stream, though I hopped in partway through so I haven’t seen the very beginning.

This is stuff that I genuinely believe people need to pay attention to if they want to at all understand Revivebur-- I was very disconcerted about him until today’s stream and I connected some dots.

We shouldn’t be surprised. 

Wilbur Soot, as in content creator and real person, confirmed a long time ago that the dream smp was full of unreliable narrators, including and starting with his own character. We knew that. His character crumbled before our eyes, but we focused on it wrong-- and we were supposed to. We did what we were molded to do. 

Now, I came in late with a lot of things on the Dream SMP. I resisted joining the fandom despite my TikTok FYP until I got trapped by an audio pertaining to Tommy and Vilbur (it was a “let’s be the bad guys” audio). I arrived post November 16th, maybe two weeks later, in that lull period where Ranboo, Philza, and many others were getting onto their feet, Wilbur was dead, and Ghostbur was a full cast member.

And I fell in LOVE with Ghostbur, immediately. 

He got me into the DSMP. His character was so rich, and complex, and simple at the same time to the point of fascination. I was able to watch him and understand him, then click off clips of him and figure out who the hell Wilbur was. I filled in the gaps. I watched the story of L’manberg unfold in front of me, its rise and its fall. 

And I loved it! I really, really loved it. Wilbur’s character arc sang to me, as a deeply angsty spiral full of power and the need for control to the point of lacking any of it. 

But when, a couple days ago, Wilbur got revived, it felt wrong. 

I didn’t know why I was so hesitant. I love Ghostbur, and preferred him over Alivebur, sure, but I had liked Wilbur. What had changed? Why did I feel so deeply and viscerally uncomfortable?

The answer, of course, was Quackity. Or more specifically, his lore.

Up until the flashback to the L’manberg era, Wilbur fans had seen the ‘unreliable narrator’ tag as one similar to the way everyone else played it-- the character doesn’t know that they are being unreliable, because everyone experiences things subjectively and we’re shaped by that. That Wilbur’s narration was solely influenced by his deteriorating state of mind.

But then Quackity was shown talking to President Wilbur, what many thought of as the Golden Age, our Wilbur… and it was all wrong. 

Not only did this Wilbur not talk like the Wilbur we knew then, he didn’t talk like any Wilbur we had ever seen. Revolutionary Wilbur stood for peaceful discooperation, for bloodlessly removing himself from the SMP and only striking when struck (similar to Ranboo in that sense). 

Vilbur was insane, we had all agreed, and he was violent to a point, but never this bluntly. He was wrapped up in himself so much that he was self-destructive more than outwardly hurting anyone else. 

But here was Wilbur, canonically, advising Quackity to take the fight to the power. To hurt and to maim, and that the strategies that got Wilbur into power didn’t work. 

And it made me uncomfortable, because that wasn’t Wilbur.

But it turns out we were looking at Wilbur all wrong. 

When cc!Wilbur told us that there were unreliable narrators, he meant that even the ‘flawed story’ that we were getting was wrong. 

The Wilbur we saw wanted a peaceful place to live. He wanted to raise his son and live with his found family by a lake. 

Today, we were told that that dream was simply a farce-- but he didn’t want power, simply to take it away. 

L’manberg was a tool, a vessel. It was a way of “sticking it to the man” (Dream), a way of rebellion against someone who was unjust. He couldn’t care less about its actual contents, only what it meant. When we wept at the walls falling under Schlatt, under the hand of his own son, he didn’t care. And if he DID care, it was about the fact that Fundy had joined ‘the man’ (Schlatt). 

But I think that Wilbur realized that he was the new ‘man’ after all. He was kicked out of L’manberg, sure, but it was by his rules and because of the power he had created. He had, to be a cliche, become everything he sought to destroy, minus the inherent oppression that he felt Dream held. 

When I thought of Revivebur, I was so uncomfortable because I was looking at a character that, quite frankly, didn’t add up. I was looking at Alivebur and the person who talked to Quackity and I couldn’t understand how they could be the same person, but that’s the point. They aren’t. The Wilbur we saw, the one we watched fight and scream and die for a chunk of land, never existed. 

We were played like we were supposed to be. 

Wilbur was never the big, valiant hero he acted like. It was always Tommy. He just wanted something and was getting really into, essentially, the bit. Like a person playing DnD who gets legitimately attached to the storyline. But at the end of the day, he didn’t need it.

Can you imagine playing Dungeons and Dragons, but the NPCs were sentient? Can you imagine putting your heart and soul into a character, so much like you, and falling in love with the people that surround you? But in your heart you know that it is just play, and that they cannot know. And then you leave. Wilbur, essentially, left his fully sentient DnD game running without him. 

We were fed a cohesive, in-depth character. Wilbur, our Wilbur. The kid who grew up with mixed feelings and was the storybook hero turned villain against those he once thought with. But all this time, we were just seeing what he wanted us to see. And maybe he started to believe it, because just because it wasn’t true doesn’t mean that he was trying to hurt everyone. He cared, truly, about the people he was with, but not the same way we thought. Every concrete emotion we experienced was a detailed lie that we filled in for ourselves. 

After all, Wilbur plays solitaire. 

A/N: this didn’t fit into the rant above, but Wilbur’s character isn’t stagnant, he just always needs power and it always creates the same dynamic! It can feel weird seeing the server kinda pull back full circle energy wise to L’manberg with developed characters, but his power rise and fall is just a requirement of his existence. It’s his rhythm.

This is just some random thought but I just remembered that c!Schlatt promised c!Quackity a six-figure salary at some point in the election arc... and this might have been mentioned a couple of times during the Manburg/Pogtopia era? But then later in Las Nevadas Episode 1 (March 16, 2021), c!Quackity said c!Schlatt didn’t even give him a minimum wage. So there are three scenarios that I can explain this with:

Inconsistency/retcon - the most meta reason, but cannot function as an in-universe reason (see the points below for this)

Manburg had a severe inflation crisis 

Workplace exploitation and/or financial abuse

Of course this is /rp /dsmp but man....... the c!Quackity brainrot never stops

obviously dream was a tyrant, but at least he wasn’t one like jschlatt, enslaving and oppressing people. and tommy and wilbur standing up to him destroyed the peace on the server forever. they had a right to—but their actions weren’t necessarily hero behaviour.

the argument that dream was a hero has basis if you believe peace is the optimal way of being.

Given the rapid rise of the popularity of Minecraft streamers on Tumblr this year, this list was inevitable. Minecraft—the game itself—has been popular on Tumblr for years, first appearing at #29 in 2018’s Year In Review list of Top Video Games before skyrocketing up 27 spots to #2 in 2019. That rapid rise coincided with the first appearance of the Hermitcraft server on our Year In Review Web Series list, at #11 in 2019 and #9 in 2020.

In the summer of 2020, members of the Dream SMP server began appearing consistently on our weekly Web Stuff Fandometrics lists. 2020 was also the first year Dream SMP server members showed up on the Web Celebs list, with Dreamwastaken premiering at the #5 spot. Further appearances were made by Technoblade, Georgenotfound, TommyInnit, Wilbur Soot, Sapnap, Tubbo, and BadBoyHalo. Since it first arrived in Fandometrics lists, the Dream SMP has, in one form or another, made it onto 94 different Web Stuff or Week in Review lists.

Throughout this year, members of the Dream SMP server, the Hermitcraft server, and the new 3rd Life and Last Life SMP servers have bounced up and down our weekly Web Stuff Fandometrics lists. Additionally, several content creators have launched musical acts, including Dream and Wilbur Soot, showing just how multi-talented these folks are. And then, of course, in a turn of events that could only happen on Tumblr, there was the fake Penis SMP Minecraft server. With its fully fleshed-out characters and lore, Penis SMP trended so hard that it appeared on our Web Stuff list on May 23, 2021.

Real or fake, Minecraft streamers have captivated fans, inspiring the prolific making and sharing of memes, theories, reactions, and truly incredible fan art. Seriously, the fan art of the blocky Minecraft characters has no right to be as good as it is—great job, y’all.

What are a few tips you have for people who want to start streaming?

MAIN THING: Make sure you are streaming for the right reason. Stream because it's a fun thing to do and you can hang out with friends and build a small community. If you start streaming with the goal of getting big, you are most likely to burnout fast as you most likely will not see instant success, some people never do.

If you're fine with that, here's some tips that have helped me:

1. Stream with friends. If you have a small viewership, chat will likely be slow, streaming with friends helps keep the stream interesting and prevents dead air where nothing is happening.

2. If you don't have people to stream with, you're gonna want to basically narrate everything you're doing in game/on stream.

3. INTERACT WITH YOUR CHAT!!! I see too many streamers who literally never look at their chat. Engaging with your chat helps build that connection that can help foster a sense of community around your streams. (Also make a Discord or something for your community to gather, grow and get to know each other)

4. Stream with a webcam or V-Tuber. I've found that for many this can help create a more personal connection and helps your streams be more engaging. Before you say "But Ranboo..." or "But Dream..." In my experience, they are exceptions to this. The vast majority of successful streamers have some sort of cam or v-tuber.

5. Don't be afraid to reach out to other creators to make content with them, especially other creators around your size. Worse thing that can happen is them saying "I'm sorry, but i'm good thanks" and the best thing that could happen is that your content is exposed to an entirely new community that could help you grow. For example, after I was teamed with Dream in MCC I decided to reach out and ask if I could join the Dream SMP, I asked twice and he eventually responded with "Oh yeah for sure" and sent me an invite. If I was too shy to ask in the first place, I wouldn't be where I am today.

I'm sure there is more I could add, but this is all I can think of atm! If you have any more specific questions, just chuck it in my asks and I may get to it! :D

A03 and the SMP Problem

Hello Tumblr!

If you've been a fan of any major SMP for the past however long, you may've noticed that we've got something of a problem on A03. For reasons unknown to me, SMPs are constantly categorized as Video Blogging RPF. Characters on the SMP are forced to share a tag with their content creators and be listed as RPF even when that isn't accurate and makes tagging complicated. Worse, if a content creator plays more than one character, both characters are merged into the cc tag. Which is incredibly confusing, and hard to follow tags for.

In the past, I've contacted A03, and gotten this reply:

Thank you for writing in about Dream SMP. We are currently reviewing the Dream SMP situation and having discussions about creating a Dream SMP fandom tag. The tag wranglers will look into other servers of similar types in the future. If an SMP is canonized, all fandom tags that clearly reference the server will be moved over to the new canonical tag. There are a number of issues we need to work through before we can do so, including ensuring that users are aware the tag is for Dream SMP members, not for other Minecraft streamers. While we can't promise that all the issues can be resolved, please do know that we are doing our best to resolve them.

Now, I was hopeful when I got this message back in November that changes would follow. However, we are now at well over 5 months past, and there's still no changes for any tags. Tags keep getting wrangled and forced into categorizations.

A03 is a fandom space, it is supposed to be by fans for fans, and it's ridiculous that a huge chunk of fandoms, including Dream SMP, Hermitcraft, Last Life, Empires, and more are forced into RPF tags that aren't remotely accurate or reflective of the works. It sucks for the people writing about the SMP, and it sucks for the people writing actual RPF. Series like Critical Role or The Adventure Zone don't have their actors listed, so why should SMPs be forced into the RPF tags?

Thusly, I would like to propose a coordinated campaign to put pressure onto A03 to create proper fandom tags for SMPs, separate from RPF tags, and with separated tags for characters and content creators. I think that a show of support for this change would help demonstrate how many people are currently being effect, and that this isn't something that can just get brushed off. They need to see how many fans are actively upset about this failure of tagging. At the very least, we deserve a public statement with what's going on and the timeline for fixing this problem.

If you're interested in participating in this campaign, my proposed dates are May 1st - May 7th.

During this period, people can, and should:

Send polite, constructive, messages to A03 support requesting:

Separate tags for SMPs and RPF, for fandom and for characters.

Separate tags for characters on SMPs, with character tags only using usernames/character names, not the names of content creators.

Separate tags for distinct characters played by the same content creators.

Reblog and create posts discussing this issue on social media. Encourage your followers on different platforms to reach out to A03 and ask them to fix the mistagging. You can use the tag #SMPsNeedTagsToo on any platform to help spread the word.

Within this tag, it would also be lovely if lists of SMPs that need this change could be created, as well as a list of characters + other tags that will need to be split from the RPF tags. These lists could also be sent to A03 to make the process of splitting easier.

If you are already planning to post a chapter or fic on A03 during this period, consider including an author's note encouraging your readers to reach out to A03.

Remember to remain polite! This is not a harassment campaign, A03 is an amazing website, and the point of this is to call attention to the issue and improve the website we love. Not drag it down.

Equally, please do not be nasty or judgemental towards RPF readers/writers. We're not trying to shame anyone for what they're reading or writing, we just want to have proper categorization so people can post their works correctly!

this is a literary analysis of c!wilbur’s untitled poem from the “Hitting on 16” dream smp short story by wilbur soot. look at this mess! v

nah, okay, you don’t need to read that. here’s a transcription and further expansion of annotations below

Overall notes: In context, c!Wilbur writes this poem about Las Nevadas, but it is in first person. The thematic elements of Las Nevadas shown in this poem also apply to c!Wilbur, and thus I’m analyzing this poem as a reflection of c!Wilbur. Repetitive anaphoric structure; possibly reflective of Wilbur viewing himself as predictable or shallow. This poem has 8 lines and one stanza.

Line 1: Alliteration of “gilding” and “gold” - emphasizing the comparison between these two words. “Gilding” refers to the process of applying gold leaf or paint to something; giving the appearance of gold without an object being made of actual gold. Wilbur does not view himself as actual gold (and does not believe he carries any inherent value, as such) but rather an imitation of it. This ties into line 2, which refers to a “painting of a lily.” The painting is a representation of something beautiful, a pastiche. It is not the object itself but rather an imitation, a mimicry - Wilbur is referring to himself as an imitation of something else, particularly one that is carefully crafted to be viewed in a certain way, such as a painting, or gold. Both these things are designed to be seen as beautiful, but are merely an appearance.

Lines 3 and 4 are tied together by the words “crushing” and “tirading”, as well as end rhymes, “sand” and “bland”. These words create a careless and rough connotation, which Wilbur is obviously using as a means to describe himself. The crushing of the sand is referring to the sand of Las Nevadas, which itself is a facade, tying back to earlier ideas of imitations and appearances. “Tirading tide” alliteration creates rhythm reflective of the same harsh and rough feeling given by the aforementioned diction. Wilbur is characterizing himself in these lines as careless, acknowledges that he inadvertently causes harm, and that he is rough and aggressive at times. The word “bland” once again reflects Wilbur viewing these parts of himself as predictable, boring, even. This feeling is likely a tie to him not feeling alive, which will come up more as we progress.

Line 5 says: “taunting silver light.” “Silver” might refer to another metaphor used in the short story, that of the “2nd place medal,” which are commonly silver, second to first place, gold. Note that in the first line, Wilbur is comparing himself to a mimicry of gold, despite implying himself to be in 1st place, genuine gold, to Quackity. He’s lying about how he views himself - it’s a facade. Silver thusly can represent Wilbur’s insecurity, a reference to living in the shadow of his former self, always being the second, lesser version of himself, unsure of how to live up to his name. Wilbur projects this onto Quackity when he accuses him of being perpetually second best. The “taunting” feeling of never living up to your potential. The silver “penetrates and scars the sky” - the sky and its natural beauties like sunrises having been used before as an example of what makes Wilbur feel alive. The shame, the “2nd best” sensation of living in his own shadow “penetrates and scars the sky” - that is, prevents him from feeling alive or living free from the shadow of who he used to be. Think of the stream where Wilbur laments everybody looking at him as though they are scared of him - this is a remnant of his past self he cannot be freed from. Note the word “scar” here, think of long term affects, think of trauma, perhaps even from limbo. Perhaps a literal reference to the silver streak in his hair, a physical reminder of his past.

Line 6 offers a change in internal rhyme structure - the entirety of the poem up to this point used internal tail rhymes - “gilding” “painting” “crushing” “tirading” and “taunting”. This may reflect a shift in attitude from Wilbur while he was writing the poem, as seen by the sudden hopeful language, referring to himself as “remnant hopes and dreams” of “all good men.” Note the significance of Wilbur even associating himself with being “good” in any way, given his past, given “let’s be the bad guys.” However, the line immediately reverts to fatalism, as such remnant dreams will always come back to death - “all good men that come to die”. This line shows Wilbur viewing himself, or his life after he has been revived as a last hope, a last wish before death, a last ditch effort. He is desperate. In this sense, Wilbur is cherishing his life, knowing that it might be his last and very well was supposed to be his last. This line is simply true, Wilbur being granted one more chance at life is, in its most literal sense, a remnant hope.

Line 7 uses the phrase “chromium dagger.” Chromium is not a feasible material for a functional knife on its own - it is a metal used with other metals to create stainless steel, chromium oxide responsible for the “stainless” finish. This is another emphasis on appearances, on Wilbur’s facade being brittle (as chromium would be were it used alone to make a knife) and fallible, his persona and reputation nothing more than the wall he has put up to separate himself from others. He may literally view himself as a tool, “a knife”, a means to an end rather than a real person. This is also consistent with his character trait of devoting himself to greater causes regardless of the affect it has on him as an individual, and quite literally putting himself before them, like when he killed himself in his spiral to prove a point about L’manberg and what it meant. Knives, the term used here, in particular also being tools used to harm - Wilbur viewing himself as not human but rather a measly manifestation of all his wrongdoings and the pain he’s inflicted onto others. Surgery is also an interesting comparison here - he is a tool to fix or a tool to break others open. He has a choice, but which cause will he dedicate himself to? The sensation of being cut open by a surgical tool, which Wilbur is comparing himself to, may also be a metaphorical allusion to Wilbur’s aversion to vulnerability - refusing to be cut open himself and rather lashing out and cutting open those around him as a means to maintain those walls we mentioned earlier. Appearances, appearances. Also, I just like the surgery metaphor because it builds off of Wilbur’s view of himself that he is broken, wrong, and something needs to be fixed.

The last line, line 8, reads, “I am turgid Las Nevadas”. The word “turgid” here likely meaning pompous or overly grandiose - once more, nothing more than an appearance, which is very much what Las Nevadas is. It is a scheme, a facade, an artificial desert, glimmering lights that lead nowhere. Comparing himself to Las Nevadas is also another means for Wilbur to compare himself to Quackity, who we’ve established he is projecting onto and sees himself in. Think about how L’manberg had such a strong tie to Wilbur’s identity; view Quackity and Las Nevadas similarly. Also consider the significance of Wilbur aligning himself with another nation, after L’manberg. He is attempting to define himself again but falls short in the simple fact that he barely sees himself as a human being, barely alive.

Closing notes: By my interpretation, this poem is about Wilbur viewing himself in the shadow of his former self, never free of his past indiscretions. He is a mimicry of who he once was, he is nothing more than the wall he’s built to keep others out - he is a shell of a person. He just wants to feel alive.

I’ve been thinking about the differences between the way certain characters view the world and themselves, so I’ve created a meta for those who are interested.

(Note: These are extremely oversimplified and condensed for the sake of reading consumption and brevity.)

synopsis: on ranboo’s second day, he receives a tour of the dream smp by the president of l’manburg. during that tour, ranboo sees you pass by and his heart may have palpitated.

currently, ranboo was getting a tour from l’manburg’s own president, tubbo. as ranboo and tubbo sat at the bench they talked, taking a small break from the tour. 

“so who’re you most excited to meet on the smp?” tubbo asked. “i think i’m equally excited to meet everyone but i’m slightly more excited to meet (y/s/n).” he said, looking at tubbo with his minecraft character. 

right after he said that, tubbo saw you run by, “oh look there they are!” tubbo said. ranboo looked around and when he turned his back facing tommy’s house, he saw you run by. in real life, ranboo’s mouth was open agape and his heart was rapidly beating in his chest. with his minecraft character, he slowly looked at tubbo.

“tha-that- that was (y/s/n) holy cow. oh my god. wha-what the- heh did i just summon them??” he asked, being very frantic. he then saw tubbo no longer moving and at the bottom left corner of his screen he saw that tubbo wrote a message.

Tubbo: (Y/N)! (y/s/n): YES MR. PRESIDENT? Tubbo: come greet our newest smp member

“what- what are you doing tubbo? are you, are you trying to give me a heart attack? i thought i would have at least a few day to prep myself before meeting them, what the heck tubbo?” ranboo was still quite frantic, unable to find the right words as he was about to meet you. all while tubbo was laughing.

(y/s/n): where are you? Tubbo: you just passed us, tommy and my bench

ranboo then saw you running back over and when you got to them, you started crouching and he crouched back. “oh my god, tubbo. i’m not ready for this.” ranboo said. “oh you’ll be fine, big man” tubbo assured.

you joined the vc and tubbo immediately said, “(y/n)! this is ranboo, he’s our newest smp member! ranboo say hi.” 

“.. hi.” ranboo said with a much quieter voice. “hi ranboo! i’m (y/s/n), but you can call me (y/n)!” you introduced. “well, (y/n) do you think you could give ranboo the rest of the tour? i have to go. he just needs to see the dreamon headquarters, l’manburg, and pogtopia.” tubbo asked.

“of course! i’d love to give ranboo a tour of the smp.” you smiled. “great! well, bye now.” tubbo bid goodbye, walked away and disconnected from the server.

“well ranboo, this way is the dreamon headquarters so let’s head there first.” so as you gave ranboo the tour he was really quiet, which made you think he didn’t like you. you were cracking jokes to maybe help him get a little comfortable but you were just filled with silence so you decided to just keep quiet and only talk about the tour, giving him details about each place you went to and the history behind it. little did you know that each time after you told a joke, ranboo muted himself and laughed out, being kinda shy.

“well, that was the end of the tour. i hope you enjoy your time on the smp.” you smiled and said bye. ranboo let out a small, “thanks,” and ran somewhere so he could blow up on his chat on how he just met you. 

“chat, do you think he hates me?” you asked. as you chat went by super fast all you could catch was:

no!!  you’re his favorite streamer LMAO he was probably just nervous because he looks up to you a lot he’s usually super outgoing !

you laughed. “oh my god! i can’t believe he was so shy. that’s cute.” as you were still streaming you went to go onto his stream and when you joined you heard him ramble about how cool you were. 

“chat what the heck. i just met (y/n). like the reason i started streaming was because of them. i am completely in shock right now. what the, oh my god.. and their jokes! they’re so funny!” he said. you laughed and told your chat not to snitch on you. 

his chat then started telling him:

well, you kept on going on mute whenever you laughed i don’t think they know you like them they might think you hate them

he read them and gasped, “oh my god, i was muting whenever they joked. dude, i was so nervous, what the heck, oh no. what if i ruined it? what if they think i hate them? oh no.” he panicked. you decided to send him a dono to calm him down a bit. 

you sent a $50 dono saying, “maybe next time we play together, you don’t have to mute yourself when you laugh at my jokes. welcome to the smp ranboo.”

“(y/s/n) thank you for the 50- oh no. you just heard me saying all that didn’t you? i swear i’m a lot cooler than this.” and you sent him another one.

“i’m sure you are. message me on discord next time you want to play together ^^” 

“oh gosh, thank you for the dono’s (y/n) and yes, for sure. i will.. let you know,”

you were actually friends with tommy when he was streaming to a few viewers, and you even watched as his channel grew. eventually he asked you to mod for him, as he knew he could trust you and because had experience being a twitch mod. he was also the reason you began streaming. as for how you met, you were in the same classes as him in highschool, and since you were the ‘quiet’ person in the class, they sat tommy next to you. honestly, you hated him when you first met him and the feeling was mutual. you didn’t want to sit next to the rather loud teenager and he had no one to talk to anymore as his friends were on the other side of the room.

“do you ever talk?”

“heh?”

“i said do you ever talk...do you always do that”

“do what”

“that fucking HeH.”

“are you mocking me simons?”

“noooo why would i do that...”

“it’s y/n.”

“right, yeah, yeah, i totally knew that.”

“great now please leave me alone i’m trying to work.”

“the fuck did you just say?”

it was that moment tommy decided he was going to make you just like him, and a few years later that’s exactly what he did. by year 11 you and tommy had grown extremely close. the last day of school arrived a lot earlier than expected, everyone was extremely stressed, no one knew what to expect or what was going to happen. you found yourself hanging around with tommy a lot more as you had no idea if you would both be going to the same college, in september you received a text message that made your night:

tommy: college sent out emails telling you if you were accepted go check

*2 minutes later*

tommy: well?

y/n: i got accepted

tommy: me too

y/n: call me right now

tommy: i’m about to stream..have you ever considered streaming?

y/n: absolutely not

tommy: make an account and stream after me i’ll raid you..make me mod you know how people can be

once college started up, you were slightly nervous the two of you would drift away from each other. however this was far from the case, although you both did different subjects and he was only in on wednesdays, the pair of you would hang out together a lot more. he would be in your streams and vice versa, you would either be in his tiktoks, or you would be the one filming them.

“y/n make a tiktok we can be mutuals.”

“please god no.”

you spent so much time at his house either talking about random things, playing whatever game you could find, or streaming. he dragged you to every meet up he went on, allowing you to meet people such as niki, phil, and, wilbur. you didn’t know this, but he would constantly bring you up in conversations with dream, which eventually lead to you joining the smp in october where you would later be able to meet the likes of jack, technoblade and jschlatt. the only person you didn’t seem to see on the server was his other friend tubbo.

you had become friends with scott after being his first twitch mod and when he noticed you started streaming, he was extremely supportive, always raiding your stream once he ended his. today you found yourself bickering with scott because he wouldn’t let you in mcc despite the fact you were ‘the best minecraft player.’

“y/n, i watched you die in minecraft 7 times last night within 5 minutes.”

“oh i’m sorry mr perfect, let me in mcc.”

“no.”

“fine i’ll make my own.”

and that’s exactly what you did..well you tried your best.

you started your stream as soon as scott ended and had him call you on discord after explaining to your chat what you were about to do.

“scott final chance let me in mcc, i’ll settle for access to the practice server.”

“fine.”

“REALLY?!”

“absolutely not!”

“fuck you, ill be in it one day!”

you left the call telling chat you didn’t need that negative energy in your life.

you really have scott to thank for you making friends with ranboo, scott made a tweet explaining what you were doing on stream which caught ranboos eye.

ranboo joined your stream and was instantly met with you yelling at scott (again) to let you in mcc.

“IM YOUR TWITCH MOD!”

“i will ban you from mcc!”

“you don’t have the nerve... so he left the call this is bullshit watch me land this water bucket clutch down this ravine so we can find axolotls and build an army.”

*you died*

you pulled your hood over your face before sinking down your chair taking a deep breath.

“FUCK!”

you calmly got back up and looked into your camera.

“i was so close, so very close.. HEY CHAT SCOTT SENT ME A LINK TO THE SERVER!”

a few minutes later you were able to get onto the server, only to be kicked less than a minute later. the reason you were banned being ‘i watched you fail the water bucket clutch down a ravine.’

you continued your build on your server and just spent the rest of the stream talking about anything that crossed your mind, that was until you decided to copy ace race. once finished, you looked into your camera and pulled your microphone closer to you.

“so this is race ace, so scott doesn’t sue me, and basically it’s going to be this course, but i’m going to change a random section practice it every day, not tell anyone it changed. of course i’m going to tell my team we have to win, oh fuck i forgot scott was watching my stream..it’s okay he didn’t hear me he’s too busy planning how he can rig the next mcc.”

ranboo found himself enjoying your content and even noticed you in his chat multiple times.

“just a minute chat i’m just sending an important dm to my mods.”

that’s when you noticed chat paused for a minute after you sent a message, it confused you for a minute before realising ranboo made you a vip on his channel and you decided to do the same for him on your channel, from there you added each other on discord. the pair of you made friends extremely quickly, you were constantly part of his streams as you would call him on discord not realising that he was streaming.

“hi y/n, by the way i’m streaming”

“i just wanted to ask if you knew how to break into a house?”

“....why”

“i locked myself out by accident and my parents are asleep come help me.”

“you are in the uk.”

“okay? catch a flight.”

chat honestly loved you and your friendship with ranboo. the pair of you only met a few weeks ago and you were already acting as though you had known each other for years.

jack

you and jack met for the first time on the smp, which would have been fine, however you met during lore and your characters weren’t exactly the best of friends. once lore had ended, everyone said their goodbyes and left the call. a few moments later you received a discord message from jack asking if you were available to call any time soon. since you were back in lockdown, you had plenty of free time. you arranged a time and date a few days later you called jack, where you had your first proper interaction out of character.

“hello jack!!”

“oh hi y/n i just thought it may be a good idea to get to know each other, well you know considering we’re both on the dream smp.”

“yeah, yeah, i understand what you mean.”

the pair of you ended up getting along with each other, it was slightly awkward for the first 5 minutes of the call, but that was expected since you hadn’t really met jack before and were anxious to call him. however, after that the conversation started to flow and you found out the pair of you had a lot in common making it easy to come up with things to talk about. it ended up feeling as though you were catching up with a friend you hadn’t spoken to for a while.

“has anyone told you your accent is really strong.”

“so is yours, y/n, what the fuck is that supposed to mean.”

“it means your accent is strong, duh.”

jack asked if you’d like to stay in call and join him on the smp whilst he streamed, and you gladly accepted the offer as you really didn’t want to do your college work, and you were enjoying your time with him. a few minutes into the stream jack had killed you several times.

“JACK STOP KILLING ME!”

rather than answering you he just sat laughing. he then went on to attempt to mute him microphone, he failed. however he didn’t realise this, so you sat listening to his plan on how he was going to kill you again. this time you were prepared, you sent a message to tommy telling him to log on along with your location. few minutes later tommy was by your side and helped you kill jack several times for revenge.

“Y/N...TOMMY!!”

“you didn’t mute your mic, so i told tommy you were bullying me.”

“im gonna go...BYE JACK, BYE Y/N, ILL SEE YOU SOON!”

“i can’t believe you.”

“hey you’re the one who didn’t turn your mic off.”

“how did you know?”

“i had your stream on my other monitor.”

“ayeee you watch my streams?”

“...i’ve been a sub for 4 months.”

the two of you stayed chatting and playing for another hour. the pair of you were already so close and you had only met each other the other day. this was just the start of your friendship, soon enough you were in a laugh and the stream ends challenge on his stream, however due to lockdown rules this was done over discord leading to you accidentally leaving the call several times.

“and they’re gone again!”

*4 minutes later*

“SORRY JACK IM BACK!”

“stop leaving y/n!”

“oh i’m sorry, let me just go yell at my wifi to stop cutting out!”

a few seconds later you could be heard faintly in the background screaming at your wifi as it would continue to buffer. as soon as restrictions were over one of the first things you decided to do was go to jacks and stream a laugh you lose where there was a punishment if you were responsible for losing the last heart. however everything was apparently hilarious in person as you would constantly laugh, meaning you were responsible for losing the last heart.

“you lost let me tweet from your account”

“fine..”

soon enough your fans and friends with your notifications on received this twitter notification

tubbo

tubbo was actually the last person you met and made friends with, your community were convinced for some reason that you both didn’t like each other and that’s why the pair of you didn’t talk to each other. this was far from the case you were both waiting for the right time, tubbo was an extremely busy teenager and you didn’t want to interrupt him, and tubbo knew you were currently in a stressful position since you had recently joined the dream smp, also you were still meeting people so he didn’t want to stress you out. this doesn’t mean he didn’t want to be your friend, he actually asked tommy since he had been your friend for at least 4 years what would be the best way of getting to know you.

“mate they hated me when we first met, just talk to them or something. you could have met them the last time i went up to visit you, but they ended up not feeling too good and went back to the hotel room.”

“when are you next coming up?”

“how about next week, and i’ll bring y/n, i really don’t understand why you’re nervous tubbo, it’s y/n they wouldn’t hurt a fly..well hmm.”

“see you next week then!”

a week later tommy dragged you to the train station.

“uh tommy where are we going?”

“...on a train.”

“no way, really? oh my god!”

a few hours later you finally got off the train.

“ill go with my dad to check into the hotel room, do you want to come with us or?”

“i think i’ll go for a walk and stretch my legs.”

“right okay, meet you at the beach later”

you spent a few minutes walking around the beach picking up any rocks and shells that caught your eye, little did you know it would result in you meeting tubbo. once you finished putting your new collection in your pockets you noticed a small crowd of people walk up to someone asking for pictures assuming it was tommy you walked over to the boy, it wasn’t tommy it was in fact tubbo. at first you stayed silent not wanting to really cause attention to yourself. you only spoke up when some people started to make inappropriate comments towards him.

“oh sorry to be a pain guys me and tubbo have plans with tommy in a few minutes, we should go so we’re not late. bye guys.”

you smiled and waved as they walked away. you looked over to tubbo, you could tell he was still pretty anxious about what just happened and honestly if you was in his position, you would react the same way.

“we should probably move from here incase they come back and see you’re still here, are you okay?”

“im feeling better now it’s over..thank you”

“oh it’s no problem i’m, y/n btw.”

“wait you and tommy were still meant to be on the train.”

“the train was actually on time, tommy went to check into the hotel i wanted to stretch my legs, i also wanted to collect some rocks.”

“did you collect enough or did you want more?”

“im not going to say no if you wanna go collect some with me.”

the pair of you walked around keeping each other close incase the people from before returned. half an hour later, the pair of you sat on a bench close to the beach so you could show tubbo everything you decided to pick up, he ended up keeping a rock he liked to have as a memory. tubbo wrapped an arm around you as it was getting cold whilst you watched the sunset.

“tubbo i think tommy forgot about me.”

“you can spend the night at mine, i’ll send him a message to let him know.”

“are you sure?”

“of course!”

“this has to be the most unsafe thing either of us will ever do, we hardly know each other and now i’m staying at yours.”

tommy sent you a message explaining that he didn’t forget, there was a problem at the other hotel and they had to go find another one, but you’ll be fine to stay at tubbos for the night. the pair of you spent the entire night learning as much as you can about the other person. it had only been an evening but you already knew the pair of you would be great friends.
