forgot to post about him here BUT I finished my silly little Vashraptor fursuit just before Emerald City Comic Con (and Vancoufur)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
except he's not actually "finished", just finished enough for me to wear him to those cons for a bit. he still needs a few more details, namely feetpaws, the stitches on his torso, a more raptor-like hand for his prosthetic, and claws. plus I'm not totally happy with his ears so I might redo them. I'll make legs and different prosthetics eventually, but that probably won't be for a while.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
as per usual of raptors, he looks pretty silly at any angle other than side profiles, so its a little difficult to get good photos while im actually wearing him.
more ramblings + WIP shots under the cut because this was the most complicated project ive ever done and im insane
so far, he's taken about $700 worth of materials and 150 hours but I'll make another post with updated numbers when he's fully finished.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the headbase is made of EVA foam, with a hinge from WeaselsOnEasels (covered with that pink fabric because I accidentally put it on the inside, rip) and 40 teeth from DreamVisionCreations. the eyes and antorbital fenestrae have .5mm computer fan pvc mesh-- his vision and ventilation are fantastic, rivaling my suit with a 3d printed base, but fine details like writing and text are lost as per usual with vision meshes (that's not normally much of a problem for me with the furry conventions I go to annually and know the layout of, but it made navigating ECCC a nightmare since ive never been before and the venue is HUGE. I imagine ill have the same struggles if I go to sakuracon-- anyone wanna be my handler for that? lol). the unfurred section is coated with Plastidip and spraypainted dark brown. most of his mane is zippered on both sides so I can remove it and make interchangable versions (I plan to make spiked-up hair in yellow, half yellow/black, and fully black) while the tip of it is magnetic so it lies flat against the base. his tongue is also magnetic. I was originally going to make magnetic eyelids, but in all honesty, I might prefer to make them velcro as they tend to be easier to adjust + more secure than magnetic ones.
the part I hated making the most was his tail, not because it's bad, but because when I was almost done with it my dog got to it and chewed it apart.
Tumblr media
you can see there's an awkward little bump along the top near where the light yellow and black fur connect-- when im wearing the tail that bump makes it look broken. but since he's so mangled anyway it can just be considered part of his design since I didn't add any scars to it
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
the tail feathers were a bit of a nightmare to make but the progress shots are cool
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
the part I loved making the most, and that im most proud of, is the bodysuit. I thought the scars were going to be a nightmare to sew, but they were actually the most fun and I love how they turned out!! he will be getting an interchangable mane down his back as well but I didn't have the time to finish it. I might also extend the shoulders a little for a better fit, particularly the left as theres a noticeable gap between the suit and the prosthetic as it is.
I showed this video of the pattern to a friend at When Furballs Strike a few weeks back and she told me I was insane. she is correct, and I'm fairly sure me actually finishing the bodysuit in a week only proves it further. but I did it anyway, and I had fun doing it.
Fur used: Yellow (Hair/Mane, Tail Feathers): HowlFabric Buttercup Luxury Shag Light Yellow (Main Body/Face): MofuMofu Mi Yellow Long Fur White (Neck, Top Surgery Scars, Tail): BigZFabric White Short Shag Brown (Ears, Tail Feathers): HowlFabric Fossil Grey Luxury Teddy Black (Arm, Tail): HowlFabric Natural Black Luxury Teddy Scars: HowlFabric Salmon Minky Tongue: HowlFabric Banana Minky Inner Mouth: HowlFabric Vanilla Minky Inner Ears: BigZFabric White Minky
note about the mofumofu fur: it's pretty thin, if you trim too much you can see the backing through it. HOWEVER. this proved to be a positive for the bodysuit, as it's MUCH more breathable than thicker furs like howl's and bigz's. (for the one day I could make it to ECCC and two days of Vancoufur, I wore this suit for 10-12 hours straight with a sweatshirt underneath and never felt like I was overheating, the minky scars most likely helped with it but STILL??) it also doesn't get as matted. whether or not it's worth the $55/yd price depends on what you need it for, if it's within your price range and you're particularly sensitive to heat, I'd say go for it. I only needed a yard for this as I'm kindof a little guy (5'5", 120lbs) so it was worth it for me.

Your eyes look delicious.....
HAND THEM OVER!
I would first like to give a major thank you to ‎MugiwaraCosplay and ‎@rah-bop For their fabulous tutorials that helped me bring this creepy fella to life! Rah-Bop has an awesome tutorial for gluing feathers, and Mugiwara has a breathtaking tutorial on making face rip-away masks like the one you see here!
He has yet to be fully developed character-wise, but I'm toying with the idea of going for a Grim Reaper/Plague Doctor Demon theme. As for names? So far, Ramos seems to be catching my fancy, but that's subject to change. I plan on making him into a 3/4 suit in time for Youmacon 2023.
Now, there are a couple of things about this mask that could use improvement. For example, the magnets used to keep the 2 faces together are very weak, and the top mask can easily slip off as a result, so I'll need to reinforce those. Secondly, the skull part still needs a zipper on the back to make it snug to my head. Thirdly, something about how some of the feathers lay kinda bother me a touch, plus I think I may have went overboard with how many feathers I added but, I won't be plucking feathers. I'll likely add more to help everything lay better. Otherwise, this is work I'm definitely proud of!

Finished photos of the fullsuit for vulturecorpse in Instagram/Twitter!
I'm so proud of how this suit came out!! 🥺😍 (my legs are a bit too short for the suit, so thats why its a bit baggy near the feet!)
This is my 3rd time having doing a skull head! I can really see a lot of improvement ^-^

How I Made My First Fursuit
I noticed a few kind tag comments on my Mercury post, so I figured I would write up a good summary of the process of making his head. This isn’t a complete guide/tutorial by any means, but I hope it provides a good explanation of how I made this thing.
This is probably going to be a long post, so I apologize in advance for taking up your dash.
Tumblr media
This is Mercury’s “skull”. It’s a small feline resin base made by DreamVisionCreations. (This model is actually no longer made by DVC, but they have replaced it with a new small feline model!) Upon receiving the base, I attached springs to the V-hinge to complete the articulated jaw function. Once the jaw was working the way I wanted, I prepared the eyes.
Tumblr media
For these eyes, I used 5 cm glass cabochons. These are significantly larger than the eye size this base is made for (3.8 cm) so they had to sit slightly further forward. I drew the eyes digitally, printed them out on thick paper, and then adhered the glass and paper together using PVC glue and water.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I installed the eyes by cementing the edges to the base, then I began building up the face around them with EVA foam. I used Curlworks’ high-visibility eye mesh for the tear ducts.
Around this point, I added in the jawset, nose, and tongue. The nose and tongue were custom-ordered from DVC so the silicone would match the colors on Mercury’s reference sheet. Both of the jawset parts were discounted, and I painted them by hand and gave the “gums” a glossy coating. I also created the ear structures using EVA foam.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Next, it was time to get a pattern. Since this head is symmetrical, I just needed to layer masking tape on half of it to get a sewing pattern that I could then translate to fur. Every individual piece was marked with its fur direction and color. Once the pattern was ready, I finished the base by sculpting the eyelids and lips.
Several days of hand-sewing later…
Tumblr media
… And this is what he looked like freshly furred! I used Big Z Fabrics’ platinum and white eco shag furs for this suit. They have an incredibly soft texture!
With all the fur sewn on, it was time for the details. I used an airbrush to exaggerate some of the shadows on his face, then worked in the markings using a combination of airbrushing and drybrushing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Finally, I have this beautiful boy! He was a lot of fun to make, and I learned a lot in the process. I’m really happy that I can be proud of this suit. Wearing this suit is an awesome experience, and I love every bit of it.

A finished partial, this one was a commission!
A fluffy dragon named Snodrac, this was a hand carved headbase, with horns from DreamVisionCreations. The tail is a simple belt loops on the end one and is around 3 feet long.
Furs are from Howl Fabric.

Almost finished! Some airbrushing projects take a couple of days just because I like to let the paint fully dry between layers. I do use a hairdryer on warm setting to set the color, but I still want to be careful not to over work the fur. 🌌✨️🐾 . . . . #aunumwolf42 #aunumart #fursuitmaker #fursuitpaws #fursuitparts #airbrushing #bigzfabric #dreamvisioncreations #fabric #fauxfur #veganfur #costume #cosplay #fursuit #handmade #handmadewithlove #smallbuisnessartist #smallbusiness #workinprogress #workinprogressart https://www.instagram.com/p/ClMAJMjpSfJ/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
