He couldn't accept that he was nearly half dead. Stuck eternally between human and Shadow Knight. He couldn't accept that he had failed, you aren't supposed to die when protecting a Lord. He was supposed to be strong enough. He should've been able to defend himself. He didn't though. So he prayed. For an answer, for anything to help him through this. He never got one. Irene was never the type to answer the prayer of Shad’s soldiers. She helped him. He didn't know it was happening, neither did she. Irene saw something in him, so she did what she could to keep him around. Shad won in the end though. In the end he was lost to himself, fighting a battle that he refused to ask for help in. People tried, so many times. They never gave up. He gave up, long before they died. They hunted him down in a place that did everything it could to kill him. He hated the way he spoke to them. The way he looked at her with nothing but rage inside of him. That was not him. The man that died for her was gone. This man was not him, but merely a shell of him. So when he heard of Cadenza’s, Aphmau’s, Katelyn’s, and Garroth's death he prayed again. This time she answered for her vessel was no longer on the mortal plane. He chose to have no memory. For that was what he had begged for years prior. He had cried praying, begging to a goddess he wasn't even sure if he believed in, wanting to forget. She didn't answer his prayers back then. It was time though. For everyone else had died. She gave each the choice to remember. None of them wanted to. They wanted to forget everything that had happened to them in this lifetime. Some begged for nothing like this to happen again. She did what she could, but even a goddess has limits. He asked her of something else though, something she could guarantee. He asked for he and Cadenza to be siblings in every lifetime, she granted it. She saw the love between them, a love that will transcend lifetimes. He asked her for something else though, something she wanted to promise him, but couldn't. He begged for a lifetime in which he does not put Cadenza through the pain in which he did this one. He didn't care about his own happiness anymore. That was something he had given up on long ago. Cadenza was everything to him. She was the only one left who knew the man he used to be. He had hurt her in a way he had no control over, yet he still regretted it every moment of his life. So he sat on his knees, in a jail cell and he prayed again. He hadn't prayed in decades but he was ready, the fight was over and he was ready. So he sat down on his knees, held his hands together and prayed. And this time his prayers were answered. He died, and he saw a woman that was almost the one he died for. She promised him that she'd do whatever she can to rectify what happens in this lifetime. It was never supposed to be this bad. All she wanted was a life in which they could all be happy, and maybe next time they would be.
