Can Blades be Corporeal without a Driver?

Short answer is no. Longer answer is yes, but things get weird and they are not quite considered a Blade anymore. XC 2 calls these Blades flesh eaters. This AU will call them Heartstealers because that is dramatic and also relevant.

Heartstealers are Blades that have incorporated enough cells (data, in this AU) from their Driver that their core crystal has assimilated them and grown a copy of the Driver’s heart and now the Blade is in Resonance with themselves. Ways to become a Heartstealer:

Fight past their own instinctual love and protectiveness for their Driver, rip out their Driver’s heart, and implant it in themselves. This usually only happens if the Blade is very desperate and the Blade-Driver relationship very bad.

Somone is doing inhumane experiments involving strapping down Blade-Driver pairs and surgically removing pieces of the Driver that are then implanted in the Blade

A Driver is killed practically on top of their Blade in a brutal enough manner (shredded, exploded) that the Blade’s fading bodying incorporates enough pieces of them to hit the assimilation point.

Of these, scenario 2 is most typical. For the Heartstealer process to take, there must be enough mystical “weight” behind the sacrifice from the Driver. Just trying to move a kidney or chunk of liver from the Driver to the Blade will just mean the Driver has lost and organ and the Blade’s body rejects it. In more general terms, if a Blade becomes a Heartstealer, the Driver is dead.

Scenario 1 is the least likely to happen, but it is the one everyone ascribes to Heartstealers. Social perception is Player-centric, so default reaction is to assume the Blade is Scary and Evil rather than that they may have been a victim, grieving survivor, or very, very desperate.

The thing about the Driver being dead? Yeah, that sticks true even in a MC AU. In XC 2, which is real world-ish, the Driver is expected to die. In MC, we have Respawns—and they do not work in this case. Even on a server such as Hypixel (infinite respawns) or DSMP (multiple canon lives), the Blade becoming a Heartstealer completely removes the Driver from the equation.

For an in-universe explanation: what the Blade does is rip out and assimilate chunks of data from the Driver. They are stealing and absorbing the code that makes a Player a Player. The remaining personal data of the Driver is just a jumbled mess of junk that cannot be read by the server and is disposed of. Straight to the void, no Limbo for you, even if this happened on the DSMP server.

Heartstealers now count as a Player. They can get sick. They can die. They now adhere to the life system of whichever server they are taking residence on. They don’t forget when they die. However, they cannot return to core crystal form due to the foreign/non-magical Player code they contain.

This non-magical code can make a Heartstealer’s power fluctuate. Usually, they end up weaker than they were as a Blade. They bleed now. It’s horrible, and they have less control of their aether. Even though Heartstealers count as Players, they still have enough Blade-based magic to being in Resonance with another Player (if they trust them) or another Blade. A Heartstealer can be on either the Blade side or the Player side of a Resonance. Sometimes even both at the same time.

c!Technoblade is a Heartstealer. What's his origin scenario? Bruh, no one but Phil gets to know that. Yes, they are in Resonance.

c!Skeppy is almost this in this AU? He and Bad did a demon ritual that required Bad losing his heart and Skeppy giving up chunks of his core crystal. Their situation is the exception that proves the rule, and it is the basis for lore where Bad has infinite lives as long as Skeppy is around, even on limited life/respawn servers like the DSMP.

More headcanons because yes

- food, food in the worlds of Minecraft is generally strange but there are key tenants to help you understand.

- Stuff that can be quickly crafted, cooked or made from base ingredients (such as wheat instead of flour) is filling in a sense but won’t sustain a players body.

- Stuff that is made with more time, usually made later on in a game, speedrunners actually need to eat more of this type of food because they don’t eat it in their runs.

- there are three types of death, death, perma death and The Endless Sleep. Regular death is simple, the player dies and wakes up where they last slept. Perma death is slightly trickier, a code mechanic that sends players back to the world hub and destroys their world, thus creating hardcore mode. And then There’s The Endless Sleep which is incredibly uncommon and under researched, it’s when a player disappears one day and won’t be found again.

- all the members of Hermitcraft are either looking for something or running from something. For some it’s obvious, Joel looking for a challenge and Grian running from the Watchers. But for others they’re both running and looking for something, like StressMonster who was both looking for a place to live in peace and running from faerie hunters.

On that note:

- StressMonster was a half Fae noble in the spring court, thankfully she was out of the castle visiting family when the first attack came. She fought at first but when one of her wings was cut off with an iron blade she fled the Fae Lands. she learned about the player side of her heritage.

- Jimmy remembers the games in stark detail but thinks no one (not even the victors) remember so he’s just kind of holding onto the fear from the games with nowhere to put it.

- a lot of people can be influenced by the lore magic of smp’s after they’ve concluded, usually it’s small such as Lizzie drinking more water after esmp s1, or Cleo being a little more intrested in history after the wc smp to Kristen gaining the magic and status as a fully fledged death goddess after the dsmp

- the birds™️ of Hermitcraft (False, Grian, Pearl) like to annoy Zedaph because he’s (definitely not) worm man

- pearl doesn’t sleep a lot, she still has the watchers in her head, trying to influence her, she’s weaker when asleep and she’s scared that if they break through they’ll terrorize Hermitcraft

- most players have a ‘chat’ that follows them around, Philza’s crowd, Technoblades voices, etc. etc. Zedaphs is a horde of sentient & autonomous worms on strings that follow him around, almost daily he gets packages from other hermits giving him back his worms because they’re just Everywhere

- Joe’s chat are ghosts that he pulled along with himself by accident, Quinn is a poltergeist who decided that yes. That one is good.

- there’s world simulations where players can go to experience the real world, such as the Japan where YHS was held

- A lot of hermits tend to over work themselves, TFC set up one night a week where he expects the hermits to either be in bed asleep or at his base eating a full dinner together. This tradition started in season 2 when he joined and goes on to this day but now without TFC the hermits rotate hosting weekly. There’s always a candle lit in TFC’s honour at these dinners.

Some notes:

One new tag this month! Content SMP brings our MCYT tags up to 44.

Fics are still primarily in english, but we have three exceptions with significant spanish fics. Karmaland (722 of 815, from 711 spanish fics last month), Tortillaland (110 of 115, from 111 spanish fics last month), and QSMP (581 of 5,616, from 527 spanish fics last month). QSMP also shows 322 fics in brazilian portugese, from 244 last month, and 30 in french, from 26 last month.

In the small and micro fandoms, Pirates cooled down from it's 45 fics last month, but still posted 22 fics, clearly the standout.

In the midsize fandoms, Fable SMP had the largest increase at 49 fics, and they steadily increase towards that 1000-fic mark that is my knockover into large fandom. Evolution SMP also had a strong month, with 42 fics.

For the large fandoms, Empires saw an increase of 240 fics, which somehow is exactly the same as last month, and also beat the previous month's 154, but still doesn't beat August's 244. 3rd Life saw an increase of 552, beating the previous month's 463 (which had been the largest amount in four months), which is understandable as there is a new life series airing. Hermitcraft went up by 651, not beating last month's 714, but comfortably beating the previous three month's, where the highest amount had been 569. DSMP continues to be the fandom no one can beat for sheer volume, as it went up by 1,269, which contines the back and forth DSMP has been experiencing, as that's less than October's 1,445, but more than September's 1,171, but less than August's 1,459. QSMP is also experiencing the "event airing right now" spike I would surmise, as they posted a kind of wild 913 fics, which is more than the previous three months (861, 725, 861).

Here's my primary headcanon on how singleplayer worlds work in MC/MCYT fics (that don't specifically refute it) that make use of the "minecraft multiverse" idea.

First and foremost: a singleplayer world is singleplayer. They are not capable of supporting multiple people for any length of time. In very rare circumstances someone may be able to enter, but they are often restricted to a small area, and the longer they stay, the more strain their presence puts on the world before it forcibly ejects them, or worst case scenario, crumbles completely.

Singleplayer worlds can function similarly to how "The Hub" does in many fics, but on a much smaller scale; From their singleplayer world, an individual can access any other world they are whitelisted on, invited to, or any public servers they've previously visited.

All worlds move in their relative position to other worlds, age and number of players affect how much they drift. Typically singleplayer worlds follow their player, growing closer to, or becoming a "pocket dimension" for, the multiplayer world that their player spends the most time on. The older the world is, the less it drifts or needs to drift to remain connected to its player. As worlds get older they tend to drift less, anchoring and being anchored by other worlds. Worlds also drift less the longer they are in one spot. Singleplayer worlds don't move while inhabited by their player, meaning that the more time spent in a singleplayer world the more "fixed" it's position becomes.

Your singleplayer world is connected to your soul, tenuously at first but more strongly the longer you spend in it and the more you build it up. Hardcore builds the connection quickest, and creative mode the slowest. Using this connection, it can be accessed from anywhere, and without a portal.

While someone, if trapped in another server, can be prevented from accessing their singleplayer world, the older, more built, the world (the stronger the player's connection to it, and the more fixed it's position) the less effective that will be. For example, in many fics the DSMP is a "locked world" that prevents anyone who enters from leaving.

Someone like Tommy, who has no singleplayer world, or Fundy, who is constantly creating new ones for testing, would be completely trapped; Unable to access any singleplayer world they have or to make any new ones.

Philza, who spends years in the same hardcore world, building in it, can access his singleplayer world but it is cut off within DSMP with him; he can't access other worlds from it while trapped there.

If someone like Etho, who has had the same world basically since minecraft started, were to end up on a "locked world" he would be more or less unaffected. Although unable to access the "main hub" that connects all players and worlds, he can still use his singleplayer as a backdoor, private, hub. His connection to it is too strong to be severed, and his world is too old to be moved.

off anon cause I want people to know who wrote this, it's me and my autism and I must be known for it. -drunk former anon (FYI I have dyslexia and write the way I speak so if I repeat myself its not on purpose.)

Why C!Philza and C!Techno are the old man duo. As to not go into my own hc’s i will be using canon or widespread accepted hc’s in this post.

Lets start with the easier, C!Techno. During his birthday stream on the dsmp he has a conversation with C!Quackity.

Quackity: Hey, it's your birthday? Techno: Ya, I’m old now. … Quackity: How old are you now…? Techno: Uhhhhh… I don’t know. Quackity: Huh? Techno: Yeah, I’m not quite sure… Quackity: You don't know how old you are? It's your birthday, you know the date but you don't know how old you are? Techno: It’s been so long.

While there are other lore conversations that would imply he's younger than an old man (ie Ghostbur’s book saying Wilbur and Techno used to spar when they were kids. And in a stream, Wilbur says Techno is in his late 20's.) Techno’s own more recent account counteracts this making it more canon. Also, the fact that Techno has stated that he and Phil are “longtime friends” as it makes more sense for the lore. With Phil canonically being immortal and an old man this does imply a similar lifespan to Philza.

Techno had canonized the fact that he only had one life (called hardcore mode) “Where I come from, people don't have multiple lives.” now while in the dsmp canon people have multiple lives, the implication that smplive is canon backing this up even. If smp live is canon the fact that while he was on the server he didn't die would help to back up the fact that he has one life and has lived for a while. Now does this mess a little with the ages of the characters? Yes, but if anything it makes some characters a few years older than implied in the series, not enough for any of them to be old.

Now on the fact that he can and will kill people in canon, the whole “Technoblade never dies” bit is real, he won't die and he will kill. He could crush any old bag of bones to mush with his bare hands. I will go more in depths with the duo part of this paper. On the server, Techno has one of the highest kill counts at 5 without suffering from a single death and has maimed, scared, or terrorized the other characters so many times it's hard to count. Quackity canonically had a fear of techno and was hunted down by him at least once, Techno used that fear against Quackity to scare him just for fun

Now the more complicated, C!Philza minecraft. In canon, he is old, old as shit. He's called old in canon and is considered the oldest character in the canon, the wiki even notes on C!Schlatts page “If Schlatt were to be revived in early July 2022, he would be more than 69 years old, assuming that he died in his 20s. This makes him the oldest character on the SMP, besides Philza.” Phil is old, old. Phil is also canonically a father, a grandfather, and a great-grandfather. As his son (C!Wilbur), who has a son (C!Fundy) who has a son (Yogurt a fox npc)

In the lore stream ‘awesamdude and Boomer NA lore finale Ft. Philza’ It mentions at the beginning “A very long time ago” Phil mentions his wife (who at this point was known as ‘Her’.) implying that he is under the moniker of The Angel of Death, C!Sam also mentions how “Hes the only person that can hang around you now” “I can be there” and that Phil was “Looking for someone you could be friends with for a long time” Phil also mentions in that same conversation “I could die… just because I’ve lived a long time doesn't mean I’m not invincible” implying Phil is old and won't die of old age. Now the time point in where this happens is very vague and not stated at all but it can be assumed Phil has been alive for a while at this point.

At one point in the canon, it was stated that for Phil he was in isolation for like 500 years in his hard-core world. While this was de-canonized some time ago this is still the accepted canon, putting the old bird man at a minimum of 501, it's assumed to be longer because his other hard-core worlds have been mentioned in the canon. Most importantly the baby zombie incident (tm) in where CC!Philza lost his 5-year-long hard-core world to a baby zombie and spider. Techno multiple times keeps up with the bit and goes “Philza lookout” while screaming every time a baby zombie appears. So it's likely that Phil is older than 600 and had a near-death experience with a baby zombie, an event that techno is aware of and feels the need to be protective of his friend over.

Phil is also popularly hced to be so old time doesn't work the same way for him, to explain the reasons why he set off an enderpearl stasis chamber 3 months and not 3 days after techno went to prison. (that or he can not read as he is so old he doesn't remember how to read in modern languages because when he learned to read it was a different language system.)

now while this is less canon and more the fandom part of Phil's character (cause man, is the fandom wild sometimes) ill mainly be bringing up the Tumblr side as it's the more fun side. For a while we had Phil being called Dilfza and at some point had also been called Gilfza when people pointed out that in canon Phil is a grandpa, so on occasion, Phil will be called Dilfza or Gilfza. The Gilfza part was mainly used by a handful of people starting in april 2021 but was first mentioned on Tumblr on january 2021

Onto if Phil could win and crush the other old people? Yes, yes he could. In canon, he is the angel of death, a name given to him originally on smpEarth a server where the Antarctic Empire took over the world and committed various amounts of war crimes. Phil also in the dsmp has participated in doomsday willingly and took revenge on the country that was responsible for his son's insanity and took great joy in taking out his anger on the people, setting off withers and bombs to do so. Phil has little regard for life when he feels it is ok to snuff it out adding on to his angel of death name.

Now time for the duo part and why you should not separate them.

There are multiple times during the canon where Phil and Techno show they are ride or die for the other. When Phil was questioned about Techno's location by the Butcher army he says “Where do you think this loyalty I have for this country exists? I'm not loyal to this country at all. I'm pretty new here, if anything you guys need to prove to me that I should care." Phil does not tell them anything about Techno’s location and goes on to say how close he and Techno are and that their friendship means more to him than New L’manburg does to him and how “We do not rat out each other.”. In fact, it only gets revealed to them about once they trash Phil’s house and find a compass that's connected to a lodestone which then gets Phil put under house arrested for being non-compliant. When Techno gets captured and sees the state Phil was left in he shoats “Phil what did they do to you.” and “You guys leave Phil alone, just take me.” showing how much care they have for each other, to the point where they would risk their own health and safety for the other to be ok.

Some of the most famous quotes in the fandom in fact come from the two of them and their show of Camaraderie,

Techno: "Phil, I have to tell you something." Philza: "Yeah? What's up?" Techno: "You're the only friend I have left in this world, Phil. The only friend I have left- which is why. I want you to have this compass. If you ever need me, Phil, I'm going into retirement right now. I'm giving up on my violent ways, but if you ever need me, Phil, I will fight for you. I will do whatever it takes… to help you"

And the ever-popular "You know what, Phil? For you- For you the world, Phil. All right?” Along with the fact that Techno trusted Phil enough to tell him about his chat that made up the voices in his head telling him to do violence (where it is also restated the fact they have known each other for a long time and at one point his violent tendency were worse). Later on in the story they even go as far as to make a secret group to discuss and dismantle governments together with the other being their most trusted person in the group.

Techno at some point gives Phil his will when he leaves to go into the prison, inside the book having parts of his actual will and the instructions for Phil to use the Enderpearl stasis chamber to bring him back from the prison after 3 days (as mentioned earlier.) What does ensue is playful banter about how Phil can't read but over all this doesn't even touch on their friendship.

These old men care so much about each other they are basically a package deal and you just can't separate them, where one goes the other will at least try to follow because they know they are stronger together and because they had spent at least 20 years together (the age of Phil’s son Wilbur, as Wilbur does remember sparing with Techno when he was a kid.) and what could be at least a couple century's together as allies and putting their lives in the hand of the other to keep them safe. Its also a popular hc that Phil was Techno’s mentor (as there was at some point some canon evidence that Phil knew Techno when he was a kid.) so to follow with the fact they are both much older this is even more of a reason why they should not be separated. thank you for coming to my ted talk ^^

i mentioned the Immortal Council for Mortal Protection a bit ago and i wanted to expand on a few key bits of the lore

basically, the way the minecraftverse works as far as im concerned is as follows:

central hub and server portals, this ive seen other people do and i like it quite a bit, however, theres more than a few hubs actually, think of the portal world as a mix of the hypixel lobby and a minecraft overworld in hardcore mode. Hubs are usually divided by language, but some people who move around between worlds a lot might want to construct a personal hub, this is basically the save selection screen but cooler, while a public hub is more like the server selection screen

a fair few people live in the hub world, there's settlements all around, its usually older or retiered players, though a lot of travellers also tend to stay in the hub for extended periods of time, people who dont have a home server also tend to have houses or camps in the hub world. Grian, for example, spent a few decades travelling around the hub world after he left the watchers, and so did wilbur for that matter, its where he met sally, actually.

while the hub is the main way people get around servers, it's not the only one, a few servers are connected, hermitcraft 8 and empires 1 were, though if you were to try and go into them now youd find ruins, and not much more.

Now, on the Immortal Council for Mortal Protection:

it was founded a few tens of thousands of years back, after a war that happenned with a fair few of the gods and a big chunk of mortal populations.

the heads of it are chosen democratically by players of all kinds, currently, it is currently noxite at the head and scott and simon hypixel as the backups (im sorry my brain can find the proper word)

the council is massive, a lot of servers have a rep, though it is a bit restricted as there has to be a sizeable amount of immortals on the server or it be incredibly large scale.

X and Sap are reps for HC and DSMP respectively

Gods with large religions also are part of the council, as they kind of head a large group of people.

There is an important distinction here, however, not all immortals are Gods, while Mumza is a god, phil is not, he is a prominent immortal figure, sure, but as the angel of death he does not recieve the title of God, though a few have ventured to say that perhaps he should. G and Tech are both in the council, however, they rarely appear, as they have Kristin or X to relay messages, they fill in for them on occassion.

Immortals come in all shapes and sizes, Gods, Myths, vampires and sirens, demigods and chosen heroes, and, in the case of joe hills and to some extent cleo, people who refuse death.

While immortals arent exactly rare, most players are mortals, as a general rule of thumb most of the ccs are immortal, but this isnt always true, a lot of them started as mortal and just sort of became immortal at some point.

This world, after all, functions a bit like warhammer orks belief system, where the more people believe something the more true it becomes.

WATCHERS

Watchers have changed a lot through time, in the old days, there were only three we know, Xelqua, Doblas and Pix. Grian, Elrubius and Pixlriffs, though they weren't the original watchers, all three of them were taken from their homes in an effort to expand. The original watchers are known to do this, and some groups of them still do, though most watcher groups nowadays are a lot more agreeable as more and more of the taken rebel, there is still hundreds of watchers who follow the old way, and all three of the known ones have targets on their backs.

A few of the taken, who are not known to be watchers to the public include, Pearl, Vegetta777 and interestingly Quackity.

The followers of the old ways, the ones we usually think of when saying watchers, dont like the council that much, and thend to start shit. However, a lot of the taken who have actually managed to flee align themselves much closer to the council, though there are of course theo ones who don't take sides.

Watchers have a lot of interesting skills, mostly to with code magic and server control, theyre quite similar to admins in that regard, if a bit more powerful, as the magic comes from within them, and they dont just channel it from consoles and command blocks.

There is three large divisons of watchers, the followers of the old ways, where a vast majority of watchers are, they watch and they value discipline. The followers of Pixlriffs, also known as the historians in some legends, these watchers dedicate to archiving worlds and stories, they value knowledge highly. And finally, the modders, this group, originally started by Doblas, pride themselves on creativity, they shape the worlds around them in ways others could never, and share that with the world. Xelqua never did start his own division, he never wanted to be a watcher to begin with, and as time goes on, the name fades, only a few have the power to speak it nowadays, other titles fit the man better.

Right. So. We have a google slide for this but the list of characters is Very Long because we’ve listed Basically Every Character In Every SMP Even Slightly Related To The TACOMLU Ever. So today we’re just gonna focus on major characters! Starting with the time quartet.

Grian- previously a Parrot Avian, forced into being a Watcher. Now he’s both.

Mumbo- Netherborn Enderman that was taken at a young age to participate in the Blood God Arena. Managed to survive long enough to get out with Blood God status. Stole part of Grian’s soul and inherited wings and Watcher magic from that.

Martyn- Elf/Fae that became a champion of the Listeners. I am so sorry Martyn we’ll get more lore for you soon.

Jimmy- Born on Hardcore mode with sea monster genes that gave him cod-like features. After dying for the first time, became an omen, harbinger and angel of Lady Death, gaining canary wings around death or disaster. Ever since Grian and Wilbur’s deaths, the wings have not gone away. Also a champion of the Listeners, has different powers to Martyn.

The Red King- A Blood God that, instead of wandering the worlds like his peers, is summoned. The pledge he made in Third Life gave him a presence in the new Renchanting on the DSMP, and Niki willingly gave up one of her lives to give him a physical body. Usually takes the form of Rendog, a wolf hybrid, but can change at will to any of his other forms.

Tommy- fucked up little code creature Scar made accidentally back in season 6. This is the best and only way to describe Tommy.

Tubbo- Goat hybrid [REDACTED] Captain Sparklez, [REDACTED] and unknown, who we know is [REDACTED].

Ranboo- Ok I know this isn’t super relevant but like. When I asked this question to Patton the formula he came up with gave me 150% of a person. First draft of this guy’s heritage and he is 1.5 people. So that’s fun. Explains a few things about Ranboo. I’m just gonna stick with ‘a mix of a bunch of different Enderman heritages rolled into one person’ for now and we’ll see what happens.

Wilbur- Patton’s the Wilbur enjoyer not me so I honestly have no idea. Bird-Fridge-Demigod baby. Trans of gender. Human somehow. Ha! Everyone point and laugh at the human! The only human in the active TACOMLU apart from [REDACTED]! Ok I asked and apparently he ‘evolved like a pokemon’ and now he is an Avian. Elytrian > Human > Avian

Phil- Corvid Avian and angel of death. Also husband of death so that’s extra cool points. Born on Hardcore mode like Jimmy (who is older than him btw)

Techno- Piglin, Blood God, you know the usual stuff.

Quackity- Duck Avian that had his wings clipped at a young age.

Scar- Vex hybrid that was raised by Sirens.

Impulse- Netherborn Demon

Some notes:

No actual new tags this month, although someone told me that Aphmau stories were finally canonized seveal months ago and I have now added them to the list! If you spot anything I've left of the list, let me know, I only see the things that get added with "SMP" in the name.

Fics are still primarily in english, but we have three exceptions with significant spanish fics. Karmaland (731 of 823 are in Spanish, from 722 spanish last month), Tortillaland (110 of 115 are in spanish, down from 111 spanish fics last month), and QSMP (668 of 6,495 are in spanish, from 527 spanish fics last month). QSMP also shows 30 works in French, the same as last month, and 375 works in Brasilian Portugese, up from 322 last month. I went through all the languages and QSMP also has 1 fic in American Sign Language, 1 fic in Bahasa Malaysia, 1 fic in German, 1 fic in Esperanto, 1 fic in Filipino, 5 fics in European Portugese, 5 fics in Русский, 1 fic in Suomi, 1 fic in Tiếng Việt, 3 fics in 中文-普通话 國語.

In the small and micro fandoms, the standout was once again Pirates SMP, perhaps modivated partially by their finale. Their 23-fic increase beat last month's 22-fic increase— not by much, but it did beat it. The other stellar work was Kaboodle, which saw an increase of 16 fics, which given that they started at 71 fics, means the fandom increased by almost 23%! Of the 26 fandoms with 200 fics or under, 10 posted a 0-fic increase, and Idots posted a decrease for the second month in a row.

In the midsize fandoms, one of the new fandoms, MyStreet, posted an impressive 28-fic increase, though it remains to be seen if that's from people re-tagging with the new canonical tag or the actual amount of fics the fandom is turning out. Despite this showing however, they could not beat the always-on-top fandom, Fable SMP, which posted 34 fics. Fable SMP is increasing steadily towards that 1000-fic mark which means I consider it a large fandom. At this rate, maybe two months will see them cross that barrier.

In the large fandoms, we saw some significant differences depending on fandom. Empires was significantly less than last month's 240 with 117, Hermicraft's 574 was reduced from last month's 651, and DSMP declined catastrophically from last month's 1,269 to posting only 767 new fics, the first time they've posted less than a thousand fics a month since I've been tracking it. All these fandoms being post-canon or end of season, plus exams/social stress of end of year have potentially had an effect. However, the two mega fandoms that are currently posting lots of content had a very different month. 3rd life posted 628 fics, comfortably beating last month's 552 and actually being a number that I've only seen beaten once, in April 2023 (671 fics). QSMP saw 894 fics posted this month, which is less than last month's 913, but also the second highest month that I've seen posted in that fandom.

Dream SMP, But Make It Hardcore

Aka. What if you only have one canon live

This is written before 30 Days SMP, I know there’s no connection with DSMP but just in case XD

Before we start, we need to lay down several rule.

There should be at least one player death for each war/arc, with possible some exception.

In this au, there are majority two ways to cheat death: using the totem of undying and the resurrection book. Totem of undying can only be used if the victim is holding it when they on the brink of death. The resurrection book can only be used with equivalent exchange: a life for a life. Any methods outside of this won't be acknowledged temporarily. Except one that we’ll discuss later.

Thirdly, the existence of ghost. As far as I knew, the only ghost characters are Ghostbur, Glatt, and Mexican Dream. All of them are formerly death people. But so far, at least from what I know, there is no actual reasoning of how the three of them came to be. So, temporarily, we will pretend ghost doesn't exist.

Fourthly, if the characters have crucial role in the Arc, the role will be passed on to someone else. This is still in the juggling process, so there will be possible contradictions.

Lastly, I'm not versatile in Dream SMP lore. I only join after Tommy resurrection, but I have a vague knowledge of the previous season. Even so, I haven't watch all the POV, so I might mot know which canon death is important and which is not. I'll try my best and follow the wiki, you any of you can argue with me. I'm open for discussion.

Now with that out of the way, let's begin the body count.

Acknowledged Death

Fundy

Cause of Death: The Final Control Room

There is no denying that Eret’s Final Control Room is one of the most iconic scene in all of Dream SMP, thus any death that happens here would have bigger meaning: they died because of a betrayal, they died fighting for the independence of their beloved country. If they die here, they die as a revolutionary hero.

However, if we look in the L’Manburg gang, everyone has importance in future role: Wilbur with the Season 1 finale, Tommy with the Season 2 finale, Tubbo with the Manberg Festivavl, Eret with the Final Control Room, Fundy with the Schlatt Administration. But, if we hae to choose one, unfortunately, we have to choose Fundy. Wilbur and Tubbo has bigger role in the narrative of Season 1 and Tommy is the central character throught Season 1 and 2. However, knowing the future and Quackity lore, we don't know how far Fundy would go in depth. So we'll put a pin on this.

Tubbo

Cause of Death: Manberg Festival Execution

Canonically speaking, so far, Tubbo has lost two canon life: in the Final Control Room to Sapnap and the Manberg Festival Execution to Technoblade. Both events are crucial in the DSMP lore however I chose the execution because it kick-started the Manberg vs Pogtopia War even further. Tubbo’s death leads Nikki and many others to join Pogtopia and Tommy vs Techno Duel at Pogtopia. Unlike Techno, Tubbo doesn’t have the Totem of Undying, thus his execution is inevitable.

However, as we know, Tubbo’s role at the end of Season 1 and beyond is important. He’s the president of L’Manberg, he exiles Tommy, the Butcher Army, and the Disc Confrontation. If he dies very early in the story, many plot will be lost. So, temporarily, unless by divine intervention his execution is stopped, his lore will be given to Lani or Ranboo.

JSchlatt

Cause of Death: Heart attack at the the end of Manberg vs Pogtopia War

This is probably the first ever canon permanent death, so we had to put in here. Schlatt other two death are during the Manberg Festival, having caught in Technoblade fireworks, and Quackity assassination at The White House. Since we already have Tubbo’s death during the Manberg Festival, that only leave with Quackity assasination and his heart attack. But, considering his heart attack death ends the Manberg vs Pogtopia War, I choose this. I’m sure anyone would agree in this.

My only worry is the potential of Schlatt’s resurrection by Quackity. In rule two, you need one soul to resurrect another. Who would Quackity kill to resurrect Schlatt?

Mexican Dream

Cause of Death: Killed by Dream during Exile Arc

Poor Mexican Dream. The best character always die too early. But, according to this wonderful analysis video, Mexican Dream is very crucial to Tommy descend to depression during the Exile Arc. With Mexican Dream being the few people who visit Tommy during exile, his presence becomes quite importance to Tommy. Which is why when Mexican Dream dies, Tommy is left with no one else (but Dream) which leads him down a harsher path to depression and suicide. 

Tommy

Cause of Death: Killed by Dream in the prison

We know that Tommy is the main character throughout Season 1 and 2, so why is he chosen for death? One reason: Wilbur’s resurrection.

All of Tommy’s death are actually important in the history of Dream SMP, but as we know, his role in Season 1 and 2 are too important that I can’t think of anyone else who can replace him. His death in the prison is a shocking moment and I’m pretty sure everyone remembers that. The main character is killed by the antagonist. Tragic isn’t it? And going back to Point 2, with Tommy’s death, Dream can resurrect Wilbur for whatever he’s planning for the future.  A soul for a soul; Tommy death’s for Wilbur’s resurrection.

Antfrost

Cause of Death: Killed by Puffy during the Red Banquet

The Red Banquet is once again a staple event on the server. Even if it’s count as a side-arc, we can’t ignore any awesome moments surrounding this event (plus, nearly all characters that Quackity recruit in Las Nevadas Arc were invited to the Red Banquet). Thus, any death happening here will effected the Eggpire gang and the guest invited there. Back then, Antfront was the one suggesting that Foolish should be sacrifice first, which made him being a bigger target for Puffy and for her to gain revenge for the death of her son. Plus, Bad mentioned that the egg required energy gained from death to hatch, thus Antfrost (and Foolish) death will fed the egg more... 

Survived

Quackity

Currently, we have Las Nevadas Arc with Quackity as the central characters, this there is no doubt that Quakcity is an important character. Heck, even before this, his role is very crucial in history. He challenged Wilbur in the election, becoming the vice president of Manberg and New L’Manberg, conducting the Butcher Army, and in Dream’s imprisonment.

Quackity has one canon death: his duel with Technoblade (the one death on the Manberg Festival by Technoblade has been retconned). So, knowing the imortance of his role in future Las Nevadas Arc, he didn’t die after the battle with Technoblade.

Jack Manifold

Jack Manifold probably had the most unfortunate deaths of all. He was killed by Wilbur because the dude just felt like it. He was killed by Tommy because he was too surprise. And he was killed by Techno during Doomsday. He’s like the SBI kids personal victim.

Now, out of all the death he suffered, I can only count his death to Techno to be the most crucial. However, Jack and Techno doesn’t have that strong relationship except Jack thinking Techno was an enemy because of Doomsday. Heck, even Jack isn’t written in Techno’s relationship list. Thus, I can’t make Jack to have a battle to the death with Techno. Compare this to Quackity vs Techno which already lit up during the Butcher Army incident, thus making Quackity vs Techno much stronger than Jack vs Techno.

Dream

Skeppy-BadBoyHalo

Originally I was going to count this as a canon death. However, their death happened before the Red Banquet, which was a bigger event. But I won’t deny that Skeppy and Bad’s fight is heart-wrenching in a way. Both of them are very close and it’s just sad to see them had a big fight like this. You can blame the Egg for messing with their head, but it lead to Skeppy’s death and Bad soon followed. You can’t deny how Bad and Skeppy’s lives are connected is quite cute.

Because both of them are the main players of the Eggpire Arc, we need to keep them alive until the end of the arc.

Cheated Death

Karl Jacobs

Origin Cause of Death: Manberg vs Pogtopia War

Method of Cheating Death: Time travel power awakening

Karl is an interesting character regarding the lore in Tales of the SMP. It had been confirm that Karl is a time traveler, however I don’t think we actually know when he got that power. Thus, if we want to incorporate this in lore we can take his death in canon and make it he could time travel for the first time, only returning when the war is over or before he was killed to avoid it. So, this is the only resurrections outside the usual methods I’m willing to acknowledge. 

Technoblade

Origin Cause of Death: Butcher Army excecution

Method of Cheating Death: Holding the Totem of Undying

Canon, this is the first canon cheated death in the series so I’m keeping this, there’s no really a further connection. The execution, along with the whole Butcher Army is the start of Quackity Villain Arc, Tubbo descend into mirroring Schlatt, Bedrocks Duo, thus marking this moment as an important staple. Also, SAD-ist Hog Hunt, my beloved. But also, Technoblade is possibly the strongest member on the DSMP, seeing that even the strongest need to cheat to avoid death is interesting.

Foolish Gamers

Origin Cause of Death: The Red Banquet Sacrifice

Method of Cheating Death: The embodiment of Totem of Undying

Foolish is a god, the embodiment of the Totem of Undying, thus he has a personal connection with cheating death and resurrection. Same case with Technoblade but with more sinister condition. Even a god like Foolish can’t escape death and need to cheat to survive. But also, his death only fueled the Egg into hatching, which wouldn’t be good in the long run.

Wilbur Soot

Method of Cheating Death: Resurrected by Dream with Tommy’s soul in exchange

Wilbur’s death is definitely an iconic moment considering this is the peak of his madness. The only problem is the existence of Ghostbur. Going back to Point 3 of ghost doesn’t exist, this would means Ghostbur doesn’t exist in this au. Which leads to Point 2 where you need a soul to resurrect another soul. If Ghostbur doesn’t exist, then who should Dream kills to resurrect Wilbur? Dream had only ever kill one person, and that’s Tommy. A soul for a soul; Tommy death’s for Wilbur’s resurrection.
