Since its in 1988, the Africa Twin has been a symbol of "True Adventure" in the ADV riding world. After a hiatus, the Africa Twin made a triumphant return in 2016 with the CRF1000L, and has since garnered a dedicated following of adventure enthusiasts.

A Legacy of Adventure
The Africa Twin's history is steeped in adventure and off-road prowess. The original XRV650, introduced in Europe in 1988, was based on the NXR750 and NXR800 racers that conquered the Dakar Rally. It quickly gained popularity and evolved into the XRV750 in 1990, selling over 73,000 units before being discontinued in 2001.
In 2016, Honda revived the Africa Twin with the CRF1000L, offering it in both European and American markets. What's New for 2024
The 2024 Africa Twin models receive a host of updates and refinements, enhancing their performance and capabilities. Adventure Sports versions now feature a 19-inch front wheel and shorter suspension travel, optimizing on-road handling and maneuverability. Tubeless tires, previously exclusive to Adventure Sports versions, are now fitted on the standard versions as well, providing convenient repair options without removing the wheel.
The 1,084cc twin-cylinder engine generates stronger power and torque in the low- to mid-rpm range, thanks to a higher compression ratio and updated ECU settings. The Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) has also been improved for smoother engagement at low speeds. Both standard and Adventure Sports versions receive updated electronic settings, a redesigned intake/exhaust layout, and revised styling, making them even more capable and appealing to adventure riders.
Design and Styling
The design of the 2024 Africa Twin models has been refined to enhance their performance and aesthetics. The standard Africa Twin features a slim, compact shape with a redesigned front fairing and rear seat, improving its off-road capabilities. For 24YM Honda’s naked four-cylinder jewel evolves its Neo Sports Café style with a sharp styling update from nose to tail. A brand-new 5-inch TFT screen offers Honda RoadSync connectivity, operated by simplified new 4-way toggle switch. Engine performance is unchanged at 70kW power and 63Nm torque, with an A2 option. The CB650R - alongside the CBR650R super sports bike - will be the first Honda to be offered with the option of Honda E-Clutch technology, which gives the rider choice of automatic clutch operation by simply using the shift pedal. - Introduction Honda has always thrived on exploring new boundaries – in design as well as engineering. In 18YM, the CB1000R, CB300R and CB125R brought a fresh identity to its naked motorcycle line-up, mixing café racer inspirations with a forward-looking ultra-minimalist look under the ‘Neo Sports Café’ design theme. In 19YM the CB650R joined the family and its combination of cool styling, exhilarating four-cylinder engine performance and light, versatile handling ensured immediate sales success. Building on the momentum, for 21YM it received a major front suspension upgrade, plus a range of detail improvements to enhance comfort, usability and practicality. 24YM is an important year for the CB650R and while updated style and functionality will get attention, this bike – alongside its naked sibling, the CBR650R – will go down in history as the first Honda to be available with Honda E-Clutch technology, which is designed to make motorcycling, from beginner right through to expert, even more enjoyable – and even more exciting. Valerio Aiello, of Honda’s Rome R&D Department on the Neo Sports Café design aesthetic: “The entire current Neo Sport Café range from Honda is the result of the CB4 Concept model presented at EICMA in 2015. Our desire was to explore the world of the café racer and reinterpret it in a modern key. We wanted to create neo-classics – that is, modern motorcycles showcasing classic design styles combined with modern techniques.  I used inspiration from outside the world of motorcycles, in watches. The display itself is customisable between ‘Bar’, ‘Circle’ and ‘Simple’ display patterns and also, for the first time on the CB650R, offers the smartphone connectivity of Honda RoadSync. Honda RoadSync – alongside a new simplified, easy-to-use, backlit 4-way toggle-switch on the left handlebar – allows straightforward, on-screen turn-by-turn navigation as well as the option (via a Bluetooth helmet headset) for the rider to make calls, listen to music or receive voice feedback of weather conditions. All an owner has to do is download the free Honda RoadSync app from either the Play Store or the App Store, connect to the CB650R, and go.

3.2 Chassis - 41mm Showa Separate Function Big Piston (SFF-BP) USD forks  - Four-piston, radial-mount front brake calipers and floating discs - 120/70-ZR17 and 180/55-ZR17 front and rear tyres The steel diamond frame uses pressed swingarm pivot plates and twin elliptical spars with a rigidity balance specifically tuned (stiffer around the headstock and more flexible in the spar sections) to deliver excellent all-round handling characteristics with high levels of rider feedback. Rake is set at 25.5° with trail of 100mm and wheelbase of 1,450mm. Kerb weight is 205kg (207kg E-Clutch). Showa’s 41mm Separate Function Big Piston (SFF-BP) USD forks offer high-quality reaction. A pressure separation damper in one fork tube and spring mechanism in the other deliver high damping performance and lighter weight. Together with the use of a larger sized piston, the result is increased feel, bump absorption and control. Adjustable for 10-stage spring preload, the single-tube monoshock operates directly on the curvaceous gravity die-cast aluminium swingarm. Four-piston radial-mount front brake calipers work 310mm floating discs, and are paired with a single-piston rear caliper and 240mm disc. The ABS is a two-channel system. Cast aluminium wheels mount 120/70-ZR17 and 180/55-ZR17 front and rear tyres.

3.3 Engine - 70kW peak power with 63Nm peak torque - 35kW A2 licence option available - Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC) The 649cc, DOHC 16-valve engine is unchanged for 24YM. It’s tuned to create the purest, most enjoyable mid-sized four-cylinder performance possible, with the classically fast ‘pick-up’ through the rev range and hard-hitting, high-revving top end for which Honda’s in-line fours are renowned. Peak power of 70kW arrives @ 12,000rpm with peak torque @ 63Nm delivered at 9,500 rpm. A 35kW option is available for A2 licence holders. Direct cam actuation makes for a compact cylinder head; bore and stroke is set at 67mm x 46mm with compression ratio raised of 11.6:1. Iridium spark plugs are employed and twin air ducts – either side of the fuel tank – feed the airbox and produce a throaty intake roar. Asymmetric piston skirts minimise bore contact and reduce friction. Ferrous spines on the outer surface of the cylinder sleeves reduce oil consumption (and friction) with improved heat transfer and a silent SV cam chain reduces frictional losses by using a Vanadium coating on its pins. Internal water channelling from cylinder head to cylinders does away with most of the exterior hoses. The engine uses a compact internal architecture, stacked six-speed gearbox and starter layout with the cylinders canted forward 30°. An assist/slipper clutch eases upshifts while managing rear-wheel lock up under hard braking and rapid downshifts. Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC) manages rear wheel traction; it can be turned off should the rider choose. Fuel consumption of 20.4km/l (WMTC mode) gives a range of over 300km from the 15.4L fuel tank. EURO5 compliant, environmental efficiency has been updated with revisions to the ECU and catalyser, as well as the addition of an OBD2-2 sensor.

The clutch and transmission hardware themselves are no different from a conventional motorcycle, with the ultra-compact system weighing only 2 kilograms. In operation, Honda E-clutch is simplicity itself, taking away the need to use the clutch lever to make a shift either up or down the gearbox. The rider simply has to operate the shift pedal for ultra-fast, consistent gear changes, bringing extra enjoyment to sporty riding. The clutch lever is also not needed when pulling away or coming to a stop. Becoming active as soon as the engine is switched on, the system manages both scenarios smoothly, while taking away the possibility of the engine stalling when in operation, providing extra convenience and peace of mind to town riding involving frequent starts and stops.

In addition to enjoyment and convenience, Honda E-Clutch brings ultimate flexibility. Should the rider wish, they are able to operate the clutch lever as normal at any time. When the clutch lever is used, the Honda E-clutch system will re-activate after less than a second above a certain engine rpm; after 5 seconds at lower engine speeds. Should the rider wish to turn off the system for a particular ride, this is also possible via the switchgear on the left handlebar. The change to manual operation is indicated by a letter ‘M’ on the instrument panel. The Honda E-Clutch also allows the rider to select an ‘operation feel’ to set the strength of the force required on the shift pedal to make a gear change. Three settings are available: HARD, MEDIUM, and SOFT, each of which can be chosen independently for upshifting and downshifting. The technology will also advise the rider to shift down - via a symbol on the instrument panel - if it detects the motorcycle is in a high gear at a certain speed. The Honda E-Clutch manages clutch engagement and disengagement based on its reading of parameters including vehicle speed, throttle opening angle, engine rpm, pressure on the shift pedal, clutch motor reduction gear angle, engine countershaft speed and gear position. The clutch is operated through an actuator unit with two motors situated inside the right hand engine cover. As the clutch is engaged or disengaged, the engine’s ignition timing and fuel injection are also controlled, resulting in smooth, shock-free shifting in any situation. Things were pretty mellow regarding Japanese mid-size bike development in the mid-1960’s. There were two-stroke 250’s, 350’s and a 500 from three makers and Honda started offering the CB450 about 1965. Then in late 1968 we opened our copies of Cycle and Cycle World to photos from European industry motorcycle shows and saw the Honda CB750! Four megaphone mufflers, the brilliant engine sticking out from under the candy apple tank and that glorious machined brake rotor up front. If you were riding around 1969, even if you loved British bikes or Harleys, you couldn’t help but stare.
In that era the 750cc bike, a “45,” was king and what was road raced and dirt tracked in most places. In fact the Dick Mann ridden Honda CB750 won the Daytona 200 in 1970. But Honda realized riders might want something a bit smaller, more manageable. In 1972 they offered the CB350F and CB500 Four, both in-line fours mimicking the big CB750 though with vertical cylinders. Later each was punched out to 400 and 550ccs respectively. The 350’s and 400’s were sweet, but typical of in-line fours of the era, you had an 8500 to 10,000 RPM redline and you’d better use it to get some acceleration. The CB400F’s remain very collectible with their 4 into 1 pipe and decked seat, production Cafe Racers of sorts. The more docile four pipe 350F is collectible too, but the exhaust systems are very prone to rust through and maybe one in five good bikes have stock exhausts any longer.
The 350F rolling chassis is pretty typical for the era, a mix of tubes and stampings. Like its big brothers, it has a disk brake in front, and drum in the rear, free standing tach and speedo, flip gas cap, dual seat. As 350cc bikes, this 350F, the CB/CL 350K3 and SL350 Motosports were sold in dealerships side by side in this era. The F was sold 1972 to 1974. Of all the Honda fours, the 350 is likely the smoothest running, essentially vibration free.
This 1974 Honda CB350F with an aftermarket four-into-one exhaust was donated to the National Motorcycle Museum by Suzi Bellville and Hall of Fame inductee Eddie Fisher and we’re happy to have it on display.

Royal Enfield has widened the Meteor 350 range by launching the new Aurora variant of the cruiser.
It gets a couple of changes over other variants of the bike and comes with a price tag of Rs. 2,19,900 (ex-showroom, Chennai) which places it between the Stellar and Supernova trims of the Meteor 350.
RE Meteor 350 Thoroughly Overhauled
The new Aurora variant of the Meteor 350 comes equipped with spoke wheels and tube tyres, unlike other versions which get alloy wheels and tubeless rubbers.
Moreover, the engine case, exhaust system, and a few other components have been bestowed with chrome finishing. All of this is done to enhance the retro appeal of the bike.

Royal Enfield Meteor 350 Aurora continues to receive the same J-series underpinnings, the 349 cc air-cooled, long-stroke engine, with 20.2 bhp and 2.75 kgm of torque, mated to a five-speed transmission.
What’s new with Aurora trim?
The trim introduces three new colourways and also debuts LED headlights to the range. Royal Enfield might make the latter feature standard with this range in the future.

With base Fireball trim, Royal Enfield has added a new Black stock colour which is both elegant and standard. Powering RE Meteor 350 is a 349cc J-series single-cylinder, air-cooled motor that kicks out 20.2 bhp at 6100rpm and a peak torque of 27 Nm at 4000rpm.
This unit is paired with a 5-speed gearbox. The same powertrain is found on newly launched Bullet 350 too.
Meteor 350 is underpinned by a dual-cradle J-series chassis which is suspended on 41mm RSU telescopic suspension at the front and twin shocks at the rear. Anchorage duties are handled by a 300mm front disc and a 270mm rear disc which are aided by a dual-channel ABS as standard.
In terms of features, it comes with a semi-digital instrument console, a USB charger, circular LED DRL and a side-stand engine inhibitor, among many.

Day Seventy-two

Up early this morning, it's a long day ahead!
It's one of thise rare days where I have a specific destination in mind, so it's on to the supermarket in Queensferry to grab some handy provisions and get at it.
Starting off by jumping onto the busy A548, it's ploughing on through a few towns along the River Dee. It's a lot of slogging in busy traffic but not too many options for this stretch as the bike route proper follows this road, and the wind is starting to increase with the temperature.
At Baglit the cycle route heads up and over some big hills a little inland, so I say hell to that and keep cracking on at the road.
The road isn't exactly great fun, with lots of hedges and trees blocking the views, but finally we break through the foliage lining and emerge out to the coast at the Port of Mostyn.
Emerging from cover does mean the wind starts to become more noticeable, and a strong breeze is blustering down the coastline. But there is a great view back over the water to see the view of yesterday's ride.
Past Ffynnongoyw, there's a right turn and it's finally away from the traffic and on to some great riding around the cycle trails to Talacre Beach, before riding on through the dunes and across the golf course.
Hitting Prestatyn, we get some more nice promenade riding all the way down to Rhyl. Some stretches are alas under building work, so there's a little meandering involved to get around them whilst being slapped around by the wind.
Over the River Clwyd, there's more nice riding away from the traffic along the beaches, along with a good few more sections of construction work diversions. But the sun is shining and the view over to Colwyn Bay is very pretty.
Past the impressive sight of Gwyrch Castle on the hillside, I have a short stop to help someone out with a flat tyre. One thing I do enjoy with cycling is the camaraderie amongst riders and it's very common for others to check in that someone is ok or needs help if they're stationary.
Riding on, it's up some steeper sections up over the cliffsides, before yet more construction work sends me off on a diversion into Old Colwyn.
I've had enough with the promenade routes being constantly blocked off, so elect to say hell and stick back to the proper cycle route once more, which leads on through the busy Colwyn Bay and west alongside the expressway.
It's around some beautiful hills through this area before coming out at Llandudno Junction, and with the wind still battering around I take a break with a bit of shelter here. Today is some hard work!
Crossing over the River Conwy, I get to ride past the awesome Conwy Castle and have a lovely jaunt around the riverside whilst heading past Conwy, then it's back out to the sea as the path works its way past some impressive hills.
Past Penmaenmawr the cliffsides offer little space, and some interesting pathing is in place to sandwich a major dual carriageway, a rail line, and pedestrian & cycle access in all together, but somehow it's managed.
At Abergwyngregyn there's no other through road apart from the dual carriageway, so the route leads uo inti the foothills overhead, making for some lobg climbs and tiring work. It gives a nice view of Anglesey, but damn it's tough going.
Eventually it's downhill once more, crossing back over the expressway and zooming in to Bangor to check out their pier, and then riding up and around to the Menai Suspension Bridge.
Across the bridge and I'm on the island if Anglesey! Whilst I'm not riding around the entire island, I am making a stopoff at a place I've wanted to check out for maby years - Llanfair­pwllgwyngyll­gogery­chwyrn­drobwll­llan­tysilio­gogo­goch. With the evening wearing on, most other tourists are having dinner and I have no issues getting a photo done with the sign.
Not much further left today! Back to the bridge I ride, then it's a ride down the Menai Strait along to the historic castle town of Caernafon, with a nice ride past its beautiful castle.
A final push around the hills nearby and I eventually arrive at my destination for the day - the home of the wonderful Nerys! I have been given a lovely hot shower and a damn amazing steak, and have a few nights' R&R ahead to allow the back to heal up a bit more!
That's the entire damn north coast of Wales down in one day! I'm kinda shocked at myself, especially with the hideous headwind that has been causing so much extra effort, but I'll take it!

Lately, we've been racking up miles on the new Suzuki V-Strom 1050DE. This year Suzuki has put more focus on dirt performance incorporating features like a 21" front wheel along with increased suspension travel and ground clearance, a more-rigid swingarm and subframe, serrated footpegs, a new Gravel ride mode, and more. In order to get a better sense of the bike’s off-road capabilities, we replaced the stock street-biased tires with a set of Heidenau K60 Ranger (70% Dirt / 30% street) Dual Sport tires. This made a significant improvement in loose terrain that allowed us to push the 1050DE's limits with greater confidence. Yet they still gave us plenty of grip on the street for some spirited riding in the twisties. Plus they're quiet on the highway too! MBP Showcases Two Motorbikes in Auto Expo 2023 to be Sold in India

On the second day of the Auto Expo 2023, the MBP a renowned Italian motorcycle brand showcased MBP C1002V and MBP M502N, two bikes. Most probably these bikes will be available in India in the future and sold through the Benelli-Keeway dealership. It is the company’s first time in the country to have launched the selling of its new motorbikes.
MBP M502N has skeel body panels with an aerodynamic stance. It is a street naked motorbike with a parallel-twin engine that is 486cc liquid-cooled. One of the advanced features includes a 4.2-inch TFT colour screen. The engine is also equipped with a 6-speed gearbox. The bike will provide 45Nm torque at 6,750rpm with 46.9hp power output at 8,500rpm.
This bike also has a KYB suspension comprising an adjustable mono-shock and fork. It will have a seat height of 790 mm, running on Pirelli Angel GT tyres. MBP M502N also offers twin brakes in the front and at the rear, there is a single disc. Another add-on is a dual-channel ABS. The bike will individually weigh without fuel as 198 kg.
MBP C1002V cruiser on the other hand will have a 5-inch TFT dash display with a projector LED headlight set in an aluminum alloy frame. It will bear a 997cc liquid-cooled V-Twin engine. Like its counterpart, it has dual-channel ABS. But it will have the support of KYB at the front and rear.
The Indian automobile market will also see a comeback by LML in the electric vehicles section. At the Auto Expo 2023, the company revealed the LML Star electric scooter that has a futuristic design with red accents and dual shades of white and black. This electric scooter also showcases LED Daytime Running Lamps and LED projector headlamps. It also boasts haptic feedback, a 360-degree camera, and LED lighting.

India now has access to the brand-new Royal Enfield Classic 350. The well-liked Classic 350 motorbike, introduced in 2008, is replaced by this model. This bike successfully combines current technologies with retro aesthetics. At 36.2 kilometers per liter, it also has exceptional fuel efficiency. A Retro Factory trims costing Rs. 1,49,900 is one of the many trims offered for the vintage 350.
There are three possible colors for the Classic 350. Alloy wheels and dual-channel ABS are features of the Gunmetal Grey variant. This motorcycle was once priced at Rs 1,95,252. But now, the cost has increased by Rs 8,228 to Rs 2,03,480. The price increase has mostly had an impact on consumer perception. Although this motorcycle continues to be the most popular in India, consumers may want to rethink their purchase after learning about the new price.
