Entry for the Rebel Nature WAVEBUILT contest

(Breakdown post will be separate)

This massive robot was built to consume the mountains of plastic in the ocean with the goal of re-shaping it into structures for coral to attach to and create new coral reefs.

As it has spent more time in the ocean, other plastic-consuming algae have latched onto the Reef Builder, visible here as the blue deposits on the otherwise silver armor. Under certain circumstances, the algae will glow in the dark of the ocean, turning the otherwise quite frightening robot into a spectacle of sheer beauty.

The Forbidden Five are looking for the five Prismatic Blades (which can be used to free "something", according the Bricks By Mind's video). This seems to debunk any "leak" that says the FF are looking for two blades

Toa Chiara, for the Duckbricks fanon contest.

Edit: Wanted to add some info abt the build!

First off, with the exclusion of the mask, every piece on her exists, and in that color!* I used as much dark azure as I could, cuz I liked the idea that lightning has a totally different shade of blue than water and psionics.

I'm especially proud of her spear! I wanted the tip to look almost like a taser, while also still looking spearhead-esque. I also tried to use a lot of the shape and color language of real electronics - like the red and black block near the head of the spear, which I wanted to look almost like a car battery. Her spear has multiple ridged axle-axle connectors designed as easy grip points, so she can hold it in a number of places along the handle.

* Second edit: Oops! The wire bits on her back (2x light gray 3661, 2x light gray 72869, 1x red 75c13) don't actually exist in those colors! But you can replace them with pieces that do exist (2x white 3661, 2x flat silver 72869, 1x red 75c12) and it's almost indistinguishable.

Toa Chiara - Duckbricks Yesterday Quest Fanon Competition

This is my design of Toa Chiara, from Bionicle's last unfinished serial the Yesterday Quest, for Duckbricks' latest Fanon Design Competition.

This concept of Chiara plays up her personality and role as a lone hunter - I wanted her to come off aloof and fleet of foot. Her feet have hinge cylinders allow her toes to flex back and forth - I imagine her having a digitigrade gait by default. Her torso is my own original design, but generally speaking I went for design cues from the Glatorian era of Bionicle - the era in which her story is set. That said, I did give her a 2001-style hand with taser elements, mainly because I thought it was cool. The spear lightning would ideally be the transparent-purple version of the part, but white works too. Most notable among Chiara's design is the manica arm-guard on her right arm, made from stolen Vorox armour pieces - I envision this as her triumphant escape from captivity, claiming the armour of her erstwhile captors as a trophy.

All parts are canon-compliant, though I did need to get custom models for the Stud.io renders of some parts.

she was really fun to make, and im pretty happy with how she turned out, i wanted her to be around toa metru sized and i gave her a big bolt of lightning and big pointy fingers, but i need to work up on my photos....

please go vote for your favorite!!! i would appreciate a vote for sure, but there are a ton of talented builders in this contest!!

Seafloor Geothermal Energy plant Coral Reef

"A relic from the old world, this facility was built to pump up magma to the sea floor and use the temperature difference with the surrounding ocean to generate electricity. The largely self-sufficient plant has kept on running even without maintenance but something has changed.

Over time, the warmth emanating from the magma tubes have attracted life not usually seen in this part of the ocean and the geothermal plant has now become a colorful coral reef. The once abandoned facility is now teeming with life."

I built this in Stud.io with a lot of intersecting pieces, rendered it in a few separate passes and then assembled the final image using those renders and some more drawing.

I also used the brick-build Barraki sea squid/launcher squid from Sokoda's Bionicle Legend MOC as a little Bionicle reference

duckbricks has uploaded a new video with an in-game look of the march wave dragons rising sets and 12:11 minutes, when the set's designer is saying a few things about it, he says that the book in the dragon stone shrine contains "dark secrets" and inside the book is this picture

Now if you remember, at the end of season 1, Ras said something about unlocking "dark secrets" using the source dragon energy from Jordana. Now we have a book containing "dark secrets" with a figure who, judging by the hat and bears, is probably the FSM, with a long, vaguely rectangular object in some sort of fire. This could be a strong simplification of the red and black sword, seen in the sets, that might have played a role in some past conflict. In any case, him saying precisely, that the book contains "dark secrets" seems like a bit too much like coincidence, so there might be something there. Maybe that is why Ras is at that shrine in the first place, trying to find a way to unlock these "dark secrets"

I made a contest entry for the Waveborn contest for Christian Faber's Rebel Nature. This is the Great Coral Crab :)

The idea is basically "What if the Great Barrier Reef was on a crab's back?"

I decided to make a digital moc because I don't have this many Lego bricks and also because Lego stuff was encouraged the most. My personal favourite thing about this the trans neon green antennae with two lime brooms on it. It just looks very elegant, don't you think?

Ok can we stop talking about the "gymbo inika were the reason love isn't canon"when there's stuff in the prototype plans that are far more insane and interesting including (but not limited to)

One of the earliest concepts for 06 was set in Mata nui where Toa nuva fought the morally gray Toa Rahna, who served as a more negative reflection of Toa. A major theme for this idea was exploring if toa could be evil.

While 08 always had bat themed villains, initially 08 was supposed to have army builder mooks instead of BoM Makuta. Also originally 08s villains were supposed to be Karda nui natives

That said, Makuta as a species and Brotherhood of Makuta were planned to by the story team as early as 2004, and were already considered to be the villains of 08. Though by this time only the titan sets.

There's at least two different concepts for aquatic villains that vastly differ from the Barraki. One of them were soldiers that were possibly army-builder villains, while the others were traders who weren't necessarily evil(?) Regardless both of them very were starkly different to the Barraki in canon, thoguh the soldier concept is far more align to with what we ended up getting.

The Piraka we know and love(?) seem to be a fusion of the two prototype concepts of 06 villains: A greedy brigand species who terrorize the locals called Hagalakh and the aforementioned Toa Rahna. The Piraka took the aesthetics/lore/culture of the Hagalakh and the "anti-toa team/ group of six individuals who served as evil disorted version of toa" concept from toa Rahna.

In the concept with the Hagalakh as 06's antagonists, their goal was to wake up Tren Krom who was supposed to be the final boss. Tren Krom in this version was supposed to be a dead giant whose corpse hosts a temple and the treasures the villains seek.

In some of the plans the hunt for mask of life started in 07, not 06. 06 instead had a different goal that depended on which version of the story plans wer'e talking about

Some plans had the toa Inika/Mahri be the main team for all three years, while some plans had the team change every year. The plan

Some of the plans indicate the "Matorans" were meant to be different species of beneveloent creatures, as they used different title than Matoran to describe them. These include the Rana and the Ihoian, though the Rana may have been Matoran

Lot of plans had the titan sets be either Rahi, or at least, other Rahi-like creatures and beasts. Many of 06 and 07s concepts had these beasts be protectors for sacred locations or the Mask of Life.

There were plans for character titans. One of the Haglak/TK concepts had the leader of Haglaks, Torak, while one of the prototype Barraki were meant to have their leader be a titan set

06 was designed a shakeup that would revitalized the brand by addressing major flaws the storyteam felt prevented new kids getting hooked. One of the bigger roadblocks was the lack of a main protagonist. This was corrected by introducing a new Matoran protagonist with a connection to Mask of Life who would act as the centerpiece of the Ignition trilogy and eventually become a Toa.

At the end of 06 the Toa of Fire (Jaller??) was supposed to die and be replaced by the aforementioned Matoran protagonist as the toa of fire

Mazeka was the name of a corridor in 06 plans

Takanuva was supposed to use Mask of Life at some point

Toa Mahri were called Toa Awkwa at one point
