i am breaking down and watching dune at long last (because i feel super sick and am therefore giving myself the day off) and like i’m only at the intro but there’s a lot of “the oppressors” language for a series that i don’t think goes anywhere with that???

Given that a good portion of Dune's metaphysical/science fictional distinction is that In This Universe We Can Have Ubermenschen For Real, is it fair to assume that the Atreides have to engage in "the mafia-like protection racket that any aristocracy ultimately relies on"? Given that in Duneworld the genetic engineering goes way past a few IQ points/inches of height and into literal wizardry, most of which are tied to resource-limited substances, seems like that might not hold.

well it's a literal red queen race innit, they all have friendly witches and human computers and sword wizards trained from birth and the end result is that everyone is just constantly wired on space cocaine all the time and poisoning each other every which way

So I haven’t really been in the habit of keeping track of my dreams anymore these days but this one from last night really took the cake, I just had to jot it down. 

I had a dream about William fucking Moseley. My past selves are screaming. 

It started with my dream self checking Instagram to find that he had posted a four-grid collage photo of himself nearly nude. He was standing in front of a red backdrop with his hand covering his...yeah, and making very umm sensual facial expressions. (Don’t run to his Instagram to check because he never actually posted photos like this) Dream me was sitting there with my jaw just fucking dropped because I was like “oh...OH.” 

And then next thing I knew, I was in this huge house. My fiance, my parents, and his parents were all there, and we were each staying in separate rooms like a vacation house sort of deal. One of the rooms was meant to be a game room of sorts, ocean-adjacent themed. There was a long wooden dock that extended out from the door, it was raised over blue carpet like the sea. There were arcade games along each blue-painted wall and a window facing the door with I believe horizontal blinds shut enough to keep the glare away but not enough to reduce the natural light in the room. And there was a wooden bench built into the dock on either of the long sides. The Pevensie cast members were there hanging out on the dock and I can’t remember but I feel like I would’ve froze when I saw them. Especially Will. Anna, Georgie, and Skandar then suddenly left Will and I alone together on the dock. We made our way to the edge and as we sat down next to each other, I told him “We don’t have to talk about anything, I just want to sit with you.” So that’s what we did. We sat with our legs dangling over the edge of the dock, our sides pressed close together, and he took my hand and held it tight and I rested my head on his shoulder and closed my eyes. It was honestly just really sweet and tender. 

At one point, Anna, Georgie, and Skandar all returned and the five of us were hanging out a bit together. Most everyone was sitting on the dock’s built-in benches but Will and I were instead on the floor, right at the dock’s long side’s edge, squeezed close together. He had his arm around me and we were all joking and carrying on and having a great time. He kept asking me if I was ever going to start playing some video game called Duneworld with him again, and I genuinely could never remember playing it with him in the first place, but he spoke as if the two of us had known each other for years and had at one point bonded over religiously playing this video game again. I guess there was a new installment in the series because he kept talking about buying and playing the latest release, and I told him maybe once I got a job and had some income, I’d buy it and try it out and we could play together again. He seemed pleased enough with that. But it was so strange to see the closeness between us, the way he spoke to me and hugged me and behaved around me as if we had known each other for years. I mean, I guess in a sense, I have known the idea of him for years--sixteen years, to be precise--so it shouldn’t really be any surprise that the vision of him in my subconscious seemed to know me so thoroughly and be so close with me. But I haven’t dreamed about him in years. I haven’t thought about him much in years, either. I did recently watch an interview he did from a few weeks ago and it brought back some strong feelings about him but other than that, I had kind of resolved to accept things as they are. No more schoolgirl crying over us never being together or anything--I’m too old for that now, it’s passed it’s time. And that acceptance definitely came across in the dream, too. I remember sitting there up against him with his arm around me and thinking about my fiance down in the other room, and how much I loved him, and how I accepted the fact that Will and I would only ever be friends, good friends, close friends, but friends all the same. I accepted that we would never be together romantically, that I was happy with my fiance, and that this was the way things would be partially because I chose for things to be that way. And it really added an extra layer of tranquility to the dream, that acceptance, which was really nice.
