I'd like to take a moment to point out to detractors of ships involving Laios who feel that "Laios wouldn't take any interest in people!" that he'd hyperfixated on Shuro so badly it was ruining the man's life lmao

Shuro and Falin's relationship, I think, falls victim to the lack of general historical knowledge. Ryoko Kui has a remarkably in depth understanding of the period she's most pulling from. In this cultural context, moving vast distances for a match, especially a noble one, is pretty normal. Plus Shuro is a proper noble gentleman. What we would consider first steps is the entire courtship for him and the culture around him.

The two of them have an almost standard medieval love story, and that includes the proposal. To use how fast he proposed so early as proof that Shuro is shallow or is objectifying Falin is forced. He also says he appreciates many of Laios's traits that he shares in common with Falin. Plus, in a world that considers Falin's power over spirits spooky, he considers her kindness to the world, living or dead to be beautiful.
