Hi soln! I really love playing with this bow ( and arrow ) and since you made a playlist, which i'm super grateful because I hadn't listened mad about you in years, i also wonder If you could recommend books with the fic aesthetic or any literature that may have helped you in the inspirational process. I'm so invested in this fanfic that sometimes i wonder what would be the books that both Viktor and Reader would read XD.
OH MY GOODNESS I LOVE THIS QUESTION !!!!
okay so if we want an interesting family dynamic (bits of which were implemented into the fic) we pick up âwhite noiseâ by don delillo. the dialogue simply fascinates me itâs so absurd and whimsical but sometimes it slashes you with an axe and you just sit there thinking oh wow. oh lord.
âwhite noiseâ is incredibly ambient. peak comedy, peak dialogue, peak everything.
then, if weâd like a peek into our favorite dysfunctional readerâs mind, we pick up literally anything by annaĂŻs nin. iâm being so serious right now. anything will do, dealers choice. trust me, it will fit.
if we want to read something incredibly beautiful about a fucked up marriage while iâm toiling to write my own, we grab âlessonsâ by ian mcewan. itâs the last mcewan book i read and i still canât shut up about it. check out the trigger warnings though, the main character was groomed by his piano teacher as a kid (hence the title, i assume) and itâs a pretty major plot in this book.

The Monster Hunter Wilds Beta was a nice distraction from the shit going on in my life. It was a REALLY fun 3 days, minimal performance issues so Iâm happy I donât need to update my PC. So, here are my thoughts as a decade long fan of the series on what I experienced in Wilds.
The Good-
No clutch claw. Ten out of ten change Capcom, thank you.
Removal of gender restrictions on armor WITHOUT homogenizing the armor designs. Just a win all around here, offers such a greater range of self-expression through what your hunter wears. This will be the second time Iâm playing a female hunter just because I wonât have to deal with the armor designs I donât particularly enjoy. (Only other time was because "why not?" during my revisit to Rise a few months ago)
All the monster designs have knocked it out of the park. Chatacabra is a lovable punching bag, Doshagumaâs a nice step up to have a middle tier Fanged Beast, Balahara is a great challenge with easy to read attacks but tricky timing. And then Rey Dau just taking the cake and instantly in my top 20 favorite monsters.
Weapons all feel relatively balanced, so far? At least of the handful I tried out. Iâm a pretty casual MH player, never cared for optimal builds or speedruns so as long as the weapons feel fun to play then Iâm all good. Still personally feel LS might be a bit overtuned with all the options and non-committal choices it has but I digress. Switch Axe is making a comeback as my preemptive Wilds main weapon with Bow being my backup.
The map is enormous but doesnât feel lifeless. Thereâs always something happening just enough to make it feel like an actual environment and not just a video game level. A massive step up from the areas in Rise that all felt kind of boring with how it was just big, flat areas with connecting alleys that you could run on top of. This feels like actual topography that all flows seamlessly into one another.
Did I mention no clutch claw?
The Bad-
Even though I didnât have any, the performance issues others are reporting are inexcusable. Other people that I know for a FACT own a high end computer canât get more than 20FPS on medium settings, itâs ridiculous. This game is not optimized in the slightest for PC right now and for a simultaneous release thatâs unacceptable. And while I have joked about wanting to see the low-poly models for myself the fact that people are seeing those for their entire time in the Beta is, again, inexcusable.
Monsters run way too often but this might just be a Beta issue with lower health values so Iâll let it off a bit easy.
I agree with the lack of impact on the really big hits but I am also letting this one off easy because it could have to do with the lack of attack power we have in the Beta. Weâre literally in the basic starting gear with the basic beginnerâs weapon, thereâs room for the hit stop and impact to ramp up dynamically the higher our damage numbers go.
I know this isnât something they can fix by launch (or if theyâd even consider fixing at all) but having only six voices in character creation feels extremely limiting. I understand your hunter is fully voiced throughout the entire game now so getting the usual twenty-ish voices wouldâve bloated the budget significantly, but the poorly implemented pitch shifter does nothing to make up for their absence. Even just going one or two notches up or down and you can start to hear the artificial âstaticâ of the pitch filter and itâs distracting.
So many control scheme options and you CANâT turn off the Radial Menu? Fucking why??? Iâve never enjoyed having control of the camera taken away from me while scrolling through my item bar in previous games and now I canât even fix that. Iâve begrudgingly been forcing myself to learn how to use it, but removing an option that was in the previous two games for no reason is a baffling decision.
Still looking forward to the gameâs launch in a few months and hoping that maybe a few of these issues will be resolved by then.

2, 3 and 5 and you get to pick blorbos when relevant
2. who was your first ever Blorbo, who was your childhood Blorbo, and are they still your Blorbo?
spirit, from the critically acclaimed animated film Spirit: Stallion from the Cimarron, one of the three cds my family owned which I polished like a mirror from how often I watched it, and yes I still do like him a lot, not really a blorbo but it's still one of my favourite film, both from a technical standpoint and story-wise. for childhood blorbo, it's ellana from the ewilan/ellana's books. it could still be a blorbo if the books she comes from weren't so geared towards young teens, tried to pick them up again as an adult and it almost ruined the memories I have from them :/ but she's a really cool character, and the first inkling I got that I would always lean toward the morally grey characters lol. Still a fan tho.
3. was there any specific point / any specific moment that suddenly made this character your Blorbo, or did you slowly grow to love them more and more until they became a Blorbo to you?
i don't think so? obviously the more time pass, the more i spend time thinking about them, digging in, creating my own ideas and connecting dots, and especially for comics characters the more i read stories about them, the more i love them, but i can usually spot pretty accurately which characters will implement themselves inside my consciousness lol so a mix of both. i knew i'd love andy when she gored her way through the killfloor with an axe, and i loved her even more so when she joked around with nile and had the encounter with the employee at the pharmacy
5. whatâs the thing you dislike the most about your Blorbo?
if we're picking from the current blorbos, by which I mean Jason Todd, it's how young he is. it's no surprise I often age him up when I want to write fics about him because while yes it's interesting to examine the effect of vigilante violence & complicated family dynamics on the background of trauma and how a seventeen years old took on gotham's underground (that one is funny, tbh), i can't keep on thinking about a seventeen years old. give him adult problems, please, make him twenty-seven and dealing with life and back pain. so it's not necessarily dislike for him specifically, it's just that I don't like this trait in most characters

Seattleâs SORCIA Strike a Gnarly Chord with âLost Seasonâ
~Doomed & Stoned Debuts~
By Billy Goate

The last time we checked in with the Rain City's doom-stoner-sludge trio SORCIA, they had just released their EP, 'Death By Design' (2021). Two years later, a follow-up: 'Lost Season' (2023).
Opening number, "Miss Ann Thrope," as it turns out, is a play on words for misanthrope -- you know, someone who just doesn't like people. Lyrics reflect the kind of alienation familiar to anyone who's tried to take on the world and been chewed up and spit out, left with only frayed nerves and a low level of trust. "Controlling the things I say, I lash out at you. Our toxic love affair, a love thatâs true." The downcast dirge winds and grinds like a menacing serpent. Verses are clean and searching, delivered with a certain humanity that is both relatable and appealing. Meanwhile, the chorus is as mean and grizzly as you could ask for. "She feeds off my anger," utters vocalist/guitarist Neal De Atley, "She is well fed."
"An Axe Named Otis" may be a reference to the strange and twisted tale that is 2001's Frailty, in which Bill Paxton has a revelation from God and begins destroying demons with an axe he finds in a barn. Carved on this implement of destruction is the nickname "Otis." It's a harsh, vengeful affair, with a blood-spattered backdrop of leaden doom, evil sludge, and brittle percussion.
"Faded Dune" is a groovy southern stoner romp that could be an homage to Goatsnake. With whisky in hand, you could just melt right into it. "Dusty," meanwhile, conjures a blurry sunset and features sanguine vocal harmonies from bassist Jessica Brasch. Then the record closes with "Entering the Eighth House," an astrological reference to Scorpio and Pluto, a place of sex and death.
Sorcia's Lost Season soaks in dark blues, with melancholy hooks and forthright lyrical contemplation. Look for it this weekend on Desert Records (pre-order here). Stick it on a playlist with Acid King, Dorthia Cottrell, Saint Karloff, Goatsnake, and Legba. And don't miss the band's forthcoming western states tour, kicking off July 28th (dates below).
Give ear...
Lost Season by Sorcia
SOME BUZZ
Seattle stoner/doom trio Sorcia prepare to unleash their highly anticipated sophomore full-length âLost Seasonâ, their heaviest and most eclectic offering to date.
After releasing their debut album just days before the world shut down in March of 2020, things looked bleak for musicians as they were forced to stare into the unknown. During this dark time, Sorcia persevered by pouring themselves into songwriting, accomplishing not only the completion of a challenging EP, but also this brand new full-length they would reflectively come to name âLost Season.â

This album is a continuance of their dynamic and heavy sound, yet showcases a matured evolution in style with a new exploration of influences. Captured by Tad Doyle at Witch Ape Studio in Seattle, WA with original artwork by Mike Hawkins, Sorcia are pleased to be working with Desert Records to release âLost Seasonâ out into the world on July 21st, 2023.
Sorcia have shared the stage with heavy hitters such as Orange Goblin, Hippie Death Cult, Kadabra, Telekinetic Yeti and many more. With each show, they prove they belong with the best and Lost Season has pushed their limits further.

Why Every Website Needs a UX Audit by a Development Expert
You may have a beautiful website. It may be loaded with great content and backed by solid marketingâbut if users struggle to navigate, hesitate to click, or fail to convert, something is wrong beneath the surface. That âsomethingâ is usually a UX (User Experience) issue, and the only way to uncover it is through a UX audit.
Unlike visual design reviews or content audits, a UX audit dives deep into how users interact with your website and where friction exists in their journey. And itâs not just a job for designersâit's a job that requires development expertise.
Thatâs why a seasoned Web Development Company brings both a design-thinking mindset and technical understanding to the audit process, helping you pinpoint not just whatâs wrongâbut why itâs happening and how to fix it.
What Is a UX Audit?
A UX audit is a systematic evaluation of your website's usability, performance, and interaction patterns. It analyzes how real users engage with your site and identifies points where they experience confusion, drop-offs, or friction.
The audit typically covers:
Site navigation and layout structure
Form usability and flow
Page speed and performance
Mobile responsiveness
Click heatmaps and behavior analytics
Conversion funnel efficiency
The goal is to optimize the website for clarity, efficiency, and satisfactionâensuring users can achieve their goals with minimal effort.
Why Developers Play a Critical Role in UX Audits
While UX designers are focused on user behavior and visual design, developers understand the technical implications of whatâs happening behind the screen. They can:
Detect code-level performance issues
Evaluate accessibility compliance (ARIA roles, keyboard navigation)
Identify script conflicts affecting interactivity
Recommend scalable and efficient fixes
This combination of data interpretation + implementation insight is what makes a development-led UX audit uniquely valuable.
1. Discover Hidden Technical Barriers
Not all UX issues are visible. Sometimes, theyâre buried in broken scripts, misfiring APIs, or bloated CSS files. Development experts know how to:
Inspect browser console errors
Use Lighthouse and Core Web Vitals diagnostics
Spot uncompressed media or render-blocking resources
Identify security flags or accessibility errors
These invisible problems silently degrade the user experienceâand only a developer can properly diagnose and resolve them.
2. Improve Site Speed and Performance
Slow websites kill conversions. During a UX audit, developers run detailed speed tests across pages, devices, and networks.
They analyze:
Server response times
Lazy loading implementation
CDN efficiency
Caching policies
Small performance tweaks made during a UX audit often result in major boosts in user retention and lower bounce rates.
3. Optimize Conversion Flows Through Behavior Data
UX audits donât rely on guesswork. With tools like Google Analytics, Hotjar, or Microsoft Clarity, developers track user sessions, heatmaps, and funnel metrics.
This helps identify:
Drop-off points in forms or checkout
Confusing click paths or dead-end pages
Ineffective CTAs or placement issues
Developers can then suggest technical enhancementsâlike dynamic content loading, sticky buttons, or field-level validationâto streamline the user journey.
4. Strengthen Mobile Experience
Mobile-first users expect fast, thumb-friendly sites. Developers performing a UX audit check for:
Viewport misconfigurations
Tap target spacing issues
Content overflow or responsiveness bugs
Excessive JavaScript affecting mobile load speed
They also ensure mobile UX doesnât just look goodâbut performs efficiently under mobile data constraints.
5. Prepare for Accessibility and Compliance
A truly great UX is inclusive. Development-led audits include accessibility testing using tools like WAVE or axe DevTools to check for:
Missing alt attributes on images
Inadequate color contrast
Unlabeled form fields
Inaccessible navigation menus
This not only improves the user experience for allâbut also ensures compliance with WCAG and ADA standards.
6. Provide an Actionable, Prioritized Fix Plan
A good UX audit doesnât stop at findingsâit offers clear, prioritized recommendations based on business impact and development effort. Unlike design-only audits, developer-led ones offer:
Feasibility-based task breakdowns
Implementation guidance for quick wins
Technical suggestions for future-proofing
The result? A roadmap that your team can actually execute.
Conclusion
Every websiteâfrom eCommerce to SaaS to service-based platformsâhas room to improve. A UX audit isnât just about fixing whatâs broken; itâs about uncovering hidden opportunities to delight users, increase conversions, and outperform competitors.
Partnering with a Web Development Company that includes developers in the UX audit process ensures you donât just get surface-level insightsâyou get actionable, performance-driven solutions that actually move the needle.

ColibriTD Launches QUICK-PDE Hybrid Solver On IBM Qiskit

ColibriTD
The  IBM Qiskit Functions Catalogue now includes ColibriTD's quantum-classical hybrid partial differential equation (PDE) solution QUICK-PDE. Based on IBM's H-DES (Hybrid Differential Equation Solver) technique, QUICK-PDE lets researchers and developers solve domain-specific multiphysics PDEs via cloud access to utility-scale quantum devices.
QUICK-PDE
QUICK-PDE was developed by quantum-powered multiphysics simulation company ColibriTD. IBM Qiskit Functions Catalogue lists it as an application function. QUICK-PDE is part of ColibriTD's QUICK platform.
The function lets researchers, developers, and simulation engineers solve multiphysics partial differential equations using IBM quantum computers in the cloud. For domain-specific partial differential equation solutions, it simplifies and makes development easier.
It works
ColibriTD's unique H-DES algorithm underpins QUICK-PDE. To solve differential equations, trial solutions are encoded as linear combinations of orthogonal functions, commonly Chebyshev polynomials. The function is encoded using $2^n$ Chebyshev polynomials, where $n$ is the number of qubits.
Variable Quantum Circuit (VQC) angles parametrise orthogonal functions.
The function is embedded in an ansatz-created state and evaluated by observable combinations that allow its assessment at any time.
Loss functions encode differential equations. By altering the VQC angles in a hybrid loop, trial solutions are brought closer to real solutions until a good result is achieved.
A solution can use many optimisers. You can chain optimisers to follow a gradient by using a global optimiser like âCMAESâ (from the cma Python package) and then a fine-tuned optimiser like âSLSQPâ from Scipy for the Material Deformation scenario.
Noise reduction is built into the algorithm. The noise learner strategy can mitigate noise during CMA optimisation by stacking identical circuits and assessing identical observables on various qubits within a larger circuit, reducing the number of shots needed.
Different qubits can encode each variable's function. The function may choose appropriate default values, but users can change them. The ansatz depth per function can also be changed. Adjustable variables include the number of shots needed per circuit. Since there are several optimisation processes, the shots parameter is a list whose length matches the number of optimisers used. Computational Fluid Dynamics and Material Deformation have preset shot values.
Users can choose âRANDOMâ orâPHYSICALLY_INFORMEDâ for VQC angle initialisation. âPHYSICALLY_INFORMEDâ is the default and often works, but âRANDOMâ can be used in other cases.
Use cases and multiphysics capabilities
QUICK-PDE solves complex multiphysics problems. We cover two key use cases:
Computational fluid dynamics
The inviscid Burgers' equation and fundamental CFD model are issues. This equation simulates non-viscous fluid flow and shockwave propagation for automotive and aerospace applications.
The Navier-Stokes equations for fluid motion have an inviscid Burgers' equation at zero viscosity ($\nu = 0$). $fracpartial upartial t + ufracpartial upartial x = 0$1117, where $u(x,t)$ is the fluid speed field
When $a$ and $b$ are random constants and $u(t=0, x) = axe + b$, the current implementation only allows linear functions as initial conditions. Change these constants to see how they affect the solution.
The CFD differential equation arguments are on a fixed grid: space ($x$) between 0 and 0.95 with 0.2375 step size and time ($t$) with 30 sample points. The dynamics of new reactive fluids for heat transfer in tiny modular reactors can be studied using QUICK-PDE.
MD: Material Deformation
Second is Material Deformation (MD), which studies 1D mechanical deformation in a hypoelastic regime like a tensile test. Simulation of material stress is crucial for manufacturing and materials research.
Problem: a bar with one end dragged and one fixed. This system of equations includes a strain function ($\sigma$) and a stress function ($u$).
A surface stress boundary condition ($t$) represents the labour needed to stretch the bar in this use case.
MD differential equation arguments use a fixed grid ($x$) between 0 and 1 with a 0.04 step size.
Future versions of QUICK-PDE will include the H-DES algorithm to handle higher-dimensional problems and additional physics domains like electromagnetic simulations and heat transport.
Usability, Accessibility:
IBM Quantum Premium, Dedicated Service, and Flex Plan users can use QUICK-PDE.
The function must be requested by users.
The quantum workflow is simplified by application functions like QUICK-PDE. They use classical inputs (such physical parameters) and return domain-familiar classical outputs to make quantum approaches easier to integrate into present operations without needing to build a quantum pipeline.
This allows domain experts, data scientists, and business developers to study challenges that require HPC resources or are difficult to solve.
The function supports âjob,â âsession,â and âbatchâ execution modes. The default mode is âjobâ. A dictionary contains input parameters.
Use_case (âCFDâ or âMDâ) and physical_parameters specific to the use case (e.g., a, b for CFD; t, K, n, b, epsilon_0, sigma_0 for MD) are crucial. Users can adjust nb_qubits, depth, optimiser, shots, optimizer_options, initialisation, backend_name, and mode using optional arguments.
The function's output is a dictionary of sample points for each variable and its computed values. For instance, the CFD scenario provides u(t,x) function values and t and x samples. In MD, x samples and function values for u(x) and sigma(x) are presented. The resulting array's structure matches the variables' alphabetic sample points.
Benchmarks for Inviscid Burgers' equation and Hypoelastic 1D tensile test show statistics like qubit usage, initialisation method, error ($\approx 10^{-2}$), duration, and runtime utilisation.
A tutorial on modelling a flowing non-viscous fluid with QUICK-PDE covers setting up starting conditions, adjusting quantum hardware parameters, performing the function, and applying the results. The manual provides MD and CFD examples.
In conclusion, QUICK-PDE can be used to investigate hybrid quantum-classical algorithms for addressing complex multiphysics problems, which may enhance modelling precision and simulation time. It is a significant example of quantum value in scientific computing and a step towards opening doors previously inaccessible with regular instrumentation.

NFT Integration in P2E Games: Best Practices for Developers
Introduction
Play-to-earn (P2E) gaming has revolutionized the video game industry by allowing players to earn real-world value through gameplay. At the heart of this revolution are Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs), which provide verifiable ownership of digital assets. For developers venturing into play to earn game development, implementing NFTs effectively is crucial for creating sustainable economies and engaging player experiences.
Understanding the P2E Ecosystem
Before diving into best practices, it's important to understand how NFTs function within the P2E ecosystem:
Digital Asset Ownership: NFTs enable players to truly own in-game items, characters, and land
Value Transfer: Players can trade their earned assets on secondary markets
Interoperability: Assets can potentially move between different games and platforms
Verifiable Scarcity: Limited edition items gain value through provable rarity
Best Practices for NFT Integration in P2E Games
1. Design with Economic Sustainability in Mind
The longevity of a play to earn game development project depends on its economic model:
Implement token sinks to prevent inflation
Balance earning mechanisms with gameplay progression
Create multiple utility cases for NFTs beyond speculation
Design systems that reward skill and engagement, not just spending
2. Prioritize User Experience
Many P2E games struggle with accessibility barriers:
Simplify wallet connections and transactions
Create intuitive onboarding for crypto newcomers
Hide blockchain complexity where possible
Ensure the game is fun even without the earning aspect
3. Implement Smart Contract Security
Security breaches can destroy player trust:
Conduct thorough smart contract audits
Implement time-locks and emergency pause functions
Use established standards like ERC-721 and ERC-1155
Consider gradual rollouts of new features with economic impact
4. Create Meaningful NFT Utility
NFTs need purpose beyond collectibility:
Design gameplay advantages that don't create pay-to-win scenarios
Implement staking mechanisms for passive benefits
Allow NFT upgradability and evolution
Create social status through exclusive content access
5. Build with Interoperability
Future-proof your game by considering cross-platform potential:
Use standardized metadata formats
Consider multichain support
Document your NFT properties for other developers
Explore partnerships with complementary P2E projects
6. Balance Tokenomics with Gameplay
The most successful P2E games maintain a delicate balance:
Ensure earning mechanisms align with core gameplay loops
Create sustainable token distribution schedules
Implement progressive difficulty in earning mechanics
Design systems that reward both casual and dedicated players
7. Community Governance Integration
Empower players to participate in ecosystem decisions:
Implement DAO structures for major economic decisions
Create transparent voting mechanisms
Allow NFT holders to propose changes
Communicate economic adjustments clearly and in advance
Case Studies: Successful NFT Integration
Axie Infinity's Breeding Mechanics
Axie Infinity pioneered sustainable play to earn game development through:
NFT breeding requiring multiple tokens (AXS and SLP)
Limited breeding counts per NFT
Dynamic adjustment of breeding costs
Scholarship programs enabling entry without initial investment
The Sandbox's Land Utility
The Sandbox created valuable digital real estate through:
Giving LAND owners monetization rights
Providing creation tools exclusive to owners
Hosting events on premium locations
Creating district-based community hubs
Technical Considerations for Developers
When implementing NFTs in your P2E game, consider:
Gas Optimization: Batch minting, layer-2 solutions, or alternate blockchains
Metadata Storage: IPFS or similar decentralized storage for asset data
Rendering Performance: Optimize how NFT properties display in-game
Update Mechanisms: How to evolve NFT properties without breaking ownership
Avoiding Common Pitfalls
Many play to earn game development projects have failed due to:
Unsustainable inflation of reward tokens
Over-emphasis on investment rather than gameplay
Poor onboarding experiences for non-crypto users
Lack of engaging core gameplay loops
Insufficient security leading to exploits or hacks
Future Trends in NFT Gaming
Stay ahead of the curve by watching these emerging trends:
Dynamic NFTs that evolve based on player actions
Cross-game asset utilization and shared universes
Fractional ownership of premium assets
Real-world/digital hybrid experiences
AI integration in NFT generation and properties
Conclusion
Integrating NFTs into P2E games offers tremendous opportunities but requires careful planning and execution. By following these best practices, developers can create sustainable, engaging, and profitable games that bring value to players while pushing the boundaries of play to earn game development.
Remember that the most successful P2E games are those that would be fun to play even without the earning component. Build great games first, then enhance them with thoughtful NFT integration.

Variable Fonts
Variable Fonts: Revolutionizing Typography in the Digital Era
In recent years, typography has undergone a significant transformation, thanks to the advent of variable fonts. A groundbreaking development in the world of digital design, variable fonts have redefined how designers and developers approach type, offering unprecedented flexibility, improved performance, and a more seamless user experience. In this article, we will explore what variable fonts are, their benefits, and how they are shaping the future of typography.
What Are Variable Fonts?
Variable fonts are a type of font file format introduced as part of the OpenType specification by Microsoft, Google, Apple, and Adobe in 2016. Unlike traditional fonts, which require separate files for each style (e.g., bold, italic, condensed), variable fonts condense all styles into a single, dynamic file. This is achieved through the use of axes, such as weight, width, slant, or optical size, which allow users to adjust these attributes continuously or within defined ranges.
For instance, instead of switching between static font files like "Roboto Regular" and "Roboto Bold," a variable font allows you to specify any weight value between the two extremes, such as 450 or 725, providing granular control over the typography.
Key Benefits of Variable Fonts
Enhanced Flexibility Variable fonts give designers the ability to create custom styles that were previously unattainable with static fonts. By adjusting axes like weight, width, and slant, designers can fine-tune typography to perfectly suit the design context, ensuring consistency across various devices and platforms.
Improved Performance One of the most significant advantages of variable fonts is their ability to reduce file sizes. Instead of loading multiple font files for different styles, a single variable font file can achieve the same results. This reduces HTTP requests, decreases page load times, and enhances overall website performanceâa critical factor in todayâs mobile-first world.
Responsive Typography Variable fonts enable responsive typography that adjusts dynamically to different screen sizes and resolutions. For example, a variable font can increase its weight on smaller screens for better legibility or adjust its width to fit within constrained spaces, ensuring a consistent and accessible reading experience.
Creative Possibilities The continuous range of adjustments in variable fonts unlocks a new realm of creative possibilities. Designers can experiment with intermediate weights, subtle slants, or even create animated typography effects by dynamically changing font attributes using CSS or JavaScript.
Use Cases of Variable Fonts
Web Design In web design, variable fonts have become a game-changer. They not only improve performance but also allow for greater design consistency across different devices. CSS now supports variable font properties, making it easier for developers to implement them seamlessly into web projects.
Branding and Identity Variable fonts are ideal for brands that require a unified yet versatile typographic identity. Brands can use variable fonts to maintain a consistent look while adapting styles for various applications, such as print, digital, or mobile platforms.
Accessibility By enabling dynamic adjustments to weight, width, and other properties, variable fonts can improve accessibility. For instance, increasing weight or optical size can enhance readability for users with visual impairments.
How to Use Variable Fonts
Using variable fonts in web design requires only a few steps:
Include the Variable Font File Add the variable font file to your project, either by self-hosting it or using a web font service like Google Fonts.
Define Font Properties in CSS CSS supports variable font properties such as font-variation-settings. For example:@font-face { font-family: 'RobotoFlex'; src: url('RobotoFlex.woff2') format('woff2'); } h1 { font-family: 'RobotoFlex', sans-serif; font-variation-settings: 'wght' 700; }
Leverage Axes for Dynamic Adjustments Use axes like wght (weight), wdth (width), and slnt (slant) to customize typography dynamically based on design needs.
The Future of Variable Fonts
As the adoption of variable fonts continues to grow, they are poised to become the standard for digital typography. Their ability to enhance performance, improve user experience, and provide unparalleled design flexibility makes them an indispensable tool for modern designers and developers. With support from major browsers and design tools, the barrier to entry is rapidly diminishing, paving the way for widespread use.
Conclusion
Variable Fonts represent a paradigm shift in typography, bridging the gap between form and function. Whether you are a web designer, developer, or brand strategist, embracing variable fonts can elevate your projects and deliver a superior user experience. The future of typography is here, and itâs as dynamic as the content it serves.
