I have even more reason now to stick with this name for our earl, at least for now.

The "c" and "i" are properly mirrored, while the "el" is moved into the mirrored position but preserved in meaning. In that way, those names are anagrams but also "mirrors" of each other, without needing to spell it Leic (which would work with Irish roots -- see links further down as examples -- but would remove the "El" aspect).

Even though Ciel is thought of as a French name, with Latin origins... it works well with Hebrew, just like Rachel is Hebrew in origin. We've previously been explaining "Ciel" in terms of "sky blue, sky, heaven", but WHY would this be a word for Heaven, and not just sky? Because of "el". Is it literally the "ci" of "El"?

I found meanings for Ciel that define it as "a divine blessing from heaven".

But I wanted to find something specifically connecting Ciel to Hebrew, and I found this: just as Ciel, cieling, ceiling, celing, ceal, cael, coel -- and all those other variations in Old English, French, and Latin -- speak of coverings, concealing something, such important words used in architecture and interior design (and biology)... these are also used for translations of the Hebrew Bible when speaking of covering things, specifically when it's not just to protect but also to hide from God's sight. There was also mention of a Hebrew word that can be translated as sailor:

And שָׂחִיף can be translated as wainscoting or thin paneling, but is also slang for thin, as in "skinny". Thin barriers used to protect but also hide... and then a reference to sailors?

Uh. Are sea and ci the same thing? Like... the Genesis account of dividing "the waters" above and below? So the sea/ci is the water below, while Ciel is the waters above?

Ciel is the "sea of god"... the sky protecting/covering Earth and hiding Heaven from human view. It's "heaven" in the sense that it's the closest anyone on the earthly plane can "see" of Heaven.

Let's not forget I'd explained (in numerous posts and comments, like big time here, slightly here, and here) that Elic is a variant of Alex, meaning "protection/protector" (also commented here), and Ciel also means protection, in the form of covering or hiding.

Mother3 theory hasn't let me down yet. Why would the mirror twins' naming scheme be any different?

A small little ‘Drabble’ I guess about Ciel and wanting a specific reward from you

It had always been odd, to Ciel, the way you chose to show your affections. Opting out of a common hug, a polite handshake or even a juvenile ruffle of the hair. All actions he reluctantly had come to expect from the adults surrounding him. Even little Lizzy had begun to infantilise him with her tight embraces and slobbery kisses on his forehead.

Your choice of affections were unique, bordering on inappropriate. He was betrothed, despite how he felt towards the fact, he knew not to ever divulge the means of your affection.

He found himself trying a little harder to appease you, the rare times he saw you. That was a lot for him, making effort? It wasn’t his style, he’d usually leave that up to Sebastian, but the idea of you rewarding his butler with a kiss on the neck almost brought bile to his lips.

“A rose? What is the occasion, Earl Phantomhive?” you had asked softly, a playful tone present in your words.

A soft blush had formed on Ciel’s ivory skin, still visible even under the dim lights of your balcony. It wasn’t even your tone, just the idea of doing something so explicitly romantic caused the embarrassed flush of colour. This wasn’t his style.

“My butler had a spare from trimming the roses bushes earlier … I didn’t want it to go to waste.” He explained softly, reluctantly.

“Hmmm, nonetheless, thank you Queens Guard dog for … fetching me a rose.” you said with blinding smile. Dimples carved deep into your cheeks on show and white teeth gleaming.

Ciel gulped at the sight, opting to look away. Your smile was ravishingly beautiful, being the cause of it always made him feel overwhelmed. Lizzys gummy smile always reflected her age, a happy, spoiled child. Your smile was blinding, gorgeous with a hint of a slyness.

Pulling the rose closer to your face, the scent flooded your nostrils. The smell of a fresh rose was deep, strong and dark. Giving it was an innocent action with darker intentions hidden beneath.

You took a step towards the boy, he flinched at the sound of your heeled boots. Leaning towards him, you found his position adorable, his neck on display and red face still turned to the side. The top button of his navy shirt had been undone, you suspected in preparation. Ciel wasn’t usually so easy to read, everything was a game of chess to him. Perhaps, this time he didn’t feel the need to hide his intentions or desire. It wouldn’t keep him steps ahead in this game even if he tried.

Placing the rose on the balcony behind him, you used your free hands to pull him closer against you by his slender waist. He still refused to look your way as he allowed you to control him.

Your lips were cherry coloured due to the maids choice of makeup today. ‘A great choice’ you thought, knowing that it would stained better and brighter on his porcelain skin.

When Ciel felt your lips on his neck, it was searing hot, and tingly due to his sensitivity. It was a soft and sensual kiss, almost causing him to melt and drop his head back more to expose more skin. Your lips left his neck for a moment and he thought it was over until you returned. Multiple kisses this time, opened mouth kisses, ones unfamiliar to him. Making his eyes widen at the difference in feeling.

These kisses made your others feel like childish pecks. They made his knees buckle and his breath hitch. He almost fell back onto the banister but your grip on his waist was firm as you continued your assault.

You pulled back suddenly and gripped his chin, tugging him to face you. His eyes were shaking, an almost scared look present on his features, scared of your kisses, scared of how much he was enjoying them, scared he might have found a new addiction and scared he might never be able to look at Lizzy again.

You smiled, playful and sly, before moving to the other side of his neck. Sucking gently on the soft flesh. Ciels eyes closed and he breathed heavily, deeply. He was sure some marks would be left, but it wasn’t nothing a little powder couldn’t cover.

I would agree. I also think Vincent suspected something about R!Ciel a bit after his reaction to the idea of going to Weston.

Our Ciel, if I have this right, is thinking of how to grant the wishes, noting how difficult it sounds, but he wants to give it a go, showing that he cares about others, even if it's a struggle to meet their needs, and that people will be happy, even if he failed, that he did tr to help them.

Real Ciel seems to think that the only way to keep others around is to take care of them and if they aren't cared for they'll leave for places that will take care of them.

I think that Vincent was seeing that OCiel cared more over all for the needs of the people and their desires. He wasn't thinking about how much work the people could do for them, rather he was thinking about how much he could do for the people, and I think that might have solidified in his mind, along with Franny's comments , that while OCiel would make a great Watchdog and Earl, his health was a major factor and to see his sons happy he was willing to give everything up. I think you're right on the mark on this.

Ch215 (p1); The supposed dalliance

Dedicated to his one and only... what, exactly?

Modri is a Slavic word that essentially means watching vigilantly, and Vladis is a Slavic name meaning rule or glory.

Dalliance is often used to refer to a short or casual romantic or sexual relationship, but it can also mean any encounter that's brief and/or casual.

This doesn't rule out the possibility he's the mystery person from ch137, but why would that person expect Sebastian to actually remember him by sight, let alone by name?

Sebastian isn't feigning ignorance, since he cannot lie in front of his master.

I'm not sure why this guy thinks he can remind Sebastian by cutting himself. He's not releasing cinematic records, and it wouldn’t make sense for Undertaker to have the body of someone from Sebastian's time before his current contract.

Is he delusional?

And what's in that infusion? I'm thinking it might not be blood, after all. This guy has tattoos on his neck, which Polaris didn't have, so if it's the mystery person from ch137, then that's not Polaris. I'm starting to wonder if his memories have been altered, since the chapter is called Faded Memories. We are being led to believe Sebastian's having a memory lapse, but it might be this guy's issue, not Sebastian's. Perhaps he's been given false memories in order to have him confront Sebastian and cause confusion.
