"A large research project studying endangered species in Australia has tallied 29 recovered species—all animals that can be safely de-listed from the country’s endangered species list.
Australia’s Protection and Biodiversity Conservation (EPBC) Act currently lists 446 species of animals in genuine need of protection, but 29 of those are no longer in need—15 mammals, 8 birds, 4 frogs, a reptile, and a fish.
Among these critters are the golden, Western barred, and Eastern barred bandicoots, Western quoll, sooty albatross, waterfall frog, Flinder’s Range worm-lizard, yellow-footed rock wallabies, greater bilby, humpback whale, growling grass frog, Murray’s cod, and others.
Australia has been a focus of endangered species conservation for decades because so many of the animal varieties are found nowhere else.
Invasive predators introduced and living here for decades, including foxes and cane toads, have proven highly disruptive to local wildlife like bandicoots and bilbies.
Unlike America’s ESL, the EPBC doesn’t mandate that species be reviewed regularly for recovery. These large scientific papers are rare and represent moments to celebrate for Australia’s conservationists."

Eastern Barred Bandicoot and Maremma Guardian Dog for @rt-d00-t (not to scale)
Fun Fact: The Eastern Barred Bandicoot was considered extinct in its natural habitat of Victoria. To restore a wild population, local wildlife agencies have introduced the Guardian Dog programme - the Maremma dogs are trained to ignore the bandicoots but protect the sheep that share their habitat, warding off potential predators. The two make an odd pair but may make wild bandicoots a possibility for the future!

I've written a character profile for one of my Crash Bandicoot OCs, Cara Bandicoot. She's supposed to be my take on what Crash and Coco's biological mother is like, so... here ya go:
NAME: Cara Bandicoot QUOTE: "So proud... of my kids...!" SPECIES: Mutated Eastern Barred Bandicoot LOVES: Crash and Coco, Aku Aku, cooking HATES: Anyone who tries to hurt her family, especially Dr. Neo Cortex SUMMARY: Cara is the biological mother of Crash and Coco Bandicoot. Before she was mutated, Dr. Cortex originally used her to breed the perfect bandicoot specimens. He mutated her after Coco escaped, then promptly placed her into cryogenic stasis. She only managed to escape by pure accident when Tiny Tiger accidentally shattered her stasis chamber and woke her up. She hid in Wumpa Island's jungles for many years before finally reuniting with Crash and Coco. She now spends her days making sure her kids are well-fed and taken care of after long days of saving the world. Also, she's secretly in love with Aku Aku, seeing him as a father figure to her children. BONUS FACT: Cara tends to babble when she speaks. She can speak normally, but it takes effort to do so, so she usually tries to communicate through nonverbal methods.

Stupid Snavid Headcanons because i cant sleep
-Hates being out of the loop and Needs To Know What's Going On At All Times which directly causes problems with the next one
- Also will consciously stop listening if somebody starts telling him things above his paygrade because the less he knows the longer his annual attempt at retirement gets to be
- Retro Gamer, he's got a ps1 with some Konami games (and Crash Bandicoot) and a SNES with mario and a racing game or two
- During his 4 year stint in the "Canadian Wilderness" in the 90s (I assume Yukon but it could reasonably be any territory and a good chunk of north western or north eastern provinces) Snake picked up Canadian slang and cant put it down ("Hey, I'm goin out for a dart, brb" "Where the hell are you gonna throw darts around here??" "I'm going for a smoke," "ah")
- I prolly talked about this one but David keeps the bandana Meryl gives him on at all times, the usual way for missions and either around his neck or wrist when not
- He'll talk to dogs like they're a people. No baby talk or anything just normal talking.
- Won't drink moutain dew, never liked the taste and then Chronically Online Hal "Otacon" Emmerich called it Gamer Fuel once and now its also just banned from his presence
- The handshake was mostly his idea. Otacon made an offhand comment about secret handshakes one time and immediately Snake was planning out theirs, "It'd be kinda cool if we had a handshake, eh?" "That sounds kinda dumb, lets do it."
- He puts people's codenames in his phone or Firstname Lastname, but nothing silly because otherwise he'd forget who's who
-related to the above, he's bad with names. No reason for this one I just think its funny
-Doesn't have the exact same penchant for eating random wildlife as his father... but it got pretty close in his FOXHOUND days
- Will go to fairs and carnivals and shit Just To Buy Deep Fried Mars Bars but feels weird about just getting pop from a fast food place so he'll buy a full meal even if he isnt hungry

Australians clueless about their country's most endangered species
Tumblr media
Australia holds an unenviable conservation status: it’s the fourth-worst country in the world for species extinctions and is in the top three for critically endangered animals.
This week’s Federal Budget included a $224 million allocation to help save threatened species – news that coincides with some concerning findings of a new paper authored by University of South Australia (UniSA) researchers.
A study led by UniSA conservation psychologist Dr Elissa Pearson reveals overwhelming public ignorance of Australia’s most threatened species, a factor that is contributing to the extinction crisis of endangered animals.
UniSA researchers, alongside colleagues from Zoos Victoria and Edith Cowan University, polled more than 300 zoo visitors and community members, testing their awareness of seven endangered species at risk of extinction within the next decade.
“More than 90 per cent of those surveyed did not recognise six of the seven species; the exception being the Tasmanian devil,” Dr Pearson says.
The other species were the Leadbeater’s possum, eastern barred bandicoot, helmeted honeyeater, southern corroboree frog, Lord Howe Island (LHI) stick insect, and orange-bellied parrot.
advertisement
The Journal for Nature Conservation paper outlines a clear link between species recognition, likeability and conservation support, showing that people are far more inclined to donate toward conserving Australia’s iconic koala, kangaroo and wombat populations, despite these not being endangered.
“There are huge gaps in community knowledge regarding native Australian wildlife, with less than eight per cent of people able to correctly name six of seven endangered species when shown photographs.
“Apart from the Tasmanian devil, which 86 per cent of people recognised, the level of familiarity and knowledge of our vulnerable species is limited. Misidentification is also common, particularly the eastern barred bandicoot which is often mistaken for a bilby.”
The most likeable Australian animals – the koala and kangaroo – also reflect the ‘similarity principle’, which suggests that people tend to prefer animals most like humans, and that when only a limited number of species can be conserved, mammals are favoured over other species, regardless of their endangered status.
The helmeted honeyeater, southern corroboree frog and LHI stick insect were consistently the least liked species.
“Apart from the likeability factor, our study showed that being able to recognise species increased people’s willingness to support their conservation, so that is a starting point we need to address.”
Endangered insects are fighting an uphill battle for support, with 85 per cent of people disliking them, putting their survival at most risk. However, this perception could be changed with some clever marketing initiatives, the researchers suggest.
“The LHI stick insect has some exceptional qualities, such as their resilience and survival against all odds, their ability to reproduce without males, their tendency to form large social groups during the day, or even the fact that their foot pads are heart shaped. If people knew these facts the likeability factor would likely shoot up,” Dr Pearson says.

Crash Bandicoot - Vigilante AU
Some time ago, I envisioned an AU were Crash, Coco and Crunch are an inseparable trio of vigilantes, similar to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles or the Cooper Gang.
Crash and Coco are part of an anthropomorphic society, which means the humans don't exist, nor does the Evolvo Ray, and Crunch was taken in by the bandicoot siblings as their adopted brother. They live the fictional Wumpa City, located in the USA.
Meanwhile, as side stories, Tawna is dating Pinstripe Potoroo, and other characters like Tiny Tiger, Komodo Joe, etc. have lives of their own. Some good, some bad.
Crashworth Bandicoot The Second:
Birth: 1984
Species: Eastern Barred Bandicoot
Alignment: Good
Voice actor: Jess Harnell
Height: 5' 3''
Level of intelligence: Above average
Occupation: Vigilante
Family: Coco (sister), Crunch (adopted brother) and Aku Aku (father figure). Deceased biological parents.
Likes: Wumpa fruit, Pasadena, playing with his yo-yo, sleeping
Dislikes: rude awakenings, his sister being in danger, Pinstripe, watching wumpa fruit be used in a blender
Personality:
Witty, kind-hearted and laid back. He is not known for his anger, even towards his enemies, but threatening his little sister seems to be among one of very few ways of setting off his aggression. While not as intelligent as Coco, Crash still comes off as resourceful and smart enough to defeat villains.
Powers/abilities:
Crash retains most of his abilities from his original self, but also has vigilante skills. He can sprint, crouch and spin, but can also sneak around, slide on rails and even land on small spots.
Biography:
What can be said about this heroic and limber marsupial that hasn't been said before? Well, you might like to know that he enjoys delivering some sense of justice with the help of his sister Coco and adopted brother Crunch.
------------------------------------------
Coco Bandicoot:
Birth: 1985
Species: Eastern Barred Bandicoot
Height: 5' 2''
Level of intelligence: Very good (164 IQ)
Voice actress: Debi Derryberry
Likes: Her brothers' companionship, going on adventures
Dislikes: liars, her laptop's power dying off, evil scientists
Personality:
Coco is responsible, smart, kind-hearted and high spirited. Her high intelligence is often contrasted by her innocent demeanor. Despite being the opposite of Crash, Coco is far from prissy and is generally tolerant - if not outright amused - by her brother's behavior.
Powers/abilities:
Like her brother, Coco can sprint, crouch, do spin attacks and sneak around, but she's not able to slide on railings or jump on small posts. She is good at using weapons such as a bowcaster or grappling hooks.
Biography:
Coco is the high-spirited and intelligent younger sister of Crash.
When her face isn't glued to a computer screen, she tags along with her siblings using her expertise in technology. You can always count on her to hack into the mastermind's plans and warn Crash with some important information.
------------------------------------------
Crunch Bandicoot:
Birth: 1983
Voice actor: Kevin Michael Richardson
Height: 6' 4''
Species: BurgundyBandicoot
Level of Intelligence: Slightly above Crash's but below Coco's.
Ethnicity: Crunch is of Afro-Jamaican, Scottish, Irish and Maori descent. In short, he's biracial.
Likes: Ami, weightlifting, drinking smoothies
Dislikes: rude manners
Powers/abilities: Crunch is an accomplished fighter; he's able to knock out a group of thugs without the use of weaponry, and he's also good at driving, especially on car chases.
Personality:
Crunch is hot-headed, irrational and sometimes over-confident. However, because of his time with Crash and Coco, he became very determined and loyal to them, and is always willing to help them when necessary. He is much more of a failure intolerant than his sibligns but does show a soft side.
He is also a nature lover and shows to be a ladies' man, much to the jealousy of Crash and the amusement of Coco.
Biography:
Crunch is one tough and powerful bandicoot. As the enforcer of the trio, the villains never see him coming as he's unpredictable. His muscular figure knows neither friend nor foe: only destruction!

Flower Delivery in Manly Sydney
Flower delivery in Manly Sydney is easy and convenient. All you need to do is swipe your Opal card on trains, buses and public ferries.
Catching the ferry over to Manly is an adventure in itself, it feels like you’re visiting a little island away from Sydney. The walk to the main beach is stunning and the Corso overflows with boutiques and restaurants.
Manly to Spit Bridge Walk
The Manly to Spit Bridge Walk is a popular coastal hike that offers stunning harbour views and secluded beaches. It's best done in the cooler months and requires a good level of fitness. The hike is around 10km long and can be completed in about three hours, depending on the pace and number of breaks. You should bring a water bottle and comfortable trail shoes for the hike. You'll find a snack and drinks kiosk at Clontarf Reserve, about an hour into the hike from Spit Bridge.
Several swimming beaches are located along the walk, including Clontarf Beach, Forty Baskets Beach and Castle Rock. If you're feeling refreshed, you can take a dip at these beaches or swim at the lifeguard patrolled Manly Beach. During the hike, you'll also pass beautiful rocky headlands and walk through rainforest areas. Make sure to wear long loose layers and factor 30 sunscreen. The hike will also involve many stairs and steep hills.
Q Station
Q Station (formerly North Head Quarantine Station) is an extraordinary site of heritage and environmental significance, set within the stunning hectares of Sydney Harbour National Park. It offers stylish accommodation, unique group activities, restaurants and conference venues.
Spacious deluxe accommodation rooms look out over the Australian native bushland or spectacular Sydney Harbour. A heritage wharf, picturesque picnic areas and a private beach are all part of the experience. Its wild tranquil beauty has attracted a wide variety of wildlife, including endangered eastern long-nosed bandicoots and the native sunshine wattle.
It’s a perfect spot for nature lovers and explorers, with walking trails to immerse yourself in the natural surroundings. You can also learn about Australia’s quarantine history through a series of interactive tours and activities.
The Corso
The Corso links Manly Cove to the beach. The short pedestrian walkway is lined with Victorian facades housing restaurants, bars, cafes, surf stores and three shopping arcades. It was designed by Henry Gilbert Smith, the earliest developer of Manly, to resemble Via del Corso in Rome.
A Cane Corso needs serious exercise and a confident, authoritative owner who serves as the alpha dog in their home. This intelligent working breed thrives when given a job to do and needs mental as well as physical stimulation or undesirable behavior can occur. Many compete in agility, obedience, dock diving and protection sport events.
From high end couture to funky boutique and market 'originals', find fashion, food and homewares along The Corso or discover hidden laneways during weekend outdoor markets. There's also a selection of pubs and cafes serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. Children can splash in a series of water fountains set into the footpath that rise up a half metre and then die down at regular intervals.
Manly Beach
Fringed by Norfolk Island pine trees and a stunning harbour beach, Manly is a famous destination along Sydney’s Northern Beaches. It has a lazy, relaxed vibe and is home to some of Australia’s best surfers including Layne Beachley and Barton Lynch.
Enjoy a stroll down the lively Manly Corso and watch street performers. It’s lined with boutiques, cafes, ice creameries and restaurants. If you’re there on a weekend, be sure to check out the Manly Fresh Produce Markets.
The ocean beach at Manly is beautiful and calm, with a great rock pool for the kids. You can also walk to Shelly and North Steyne beaches from there or go up to the lookout at Queenscliff. It’s also worth checking out the secluded harbour beaches around the cliffs at North Head. They’re not as popular, but just as pretty! Located just 17 kilometres from the CBD, Manly is a popular tourist and surf beach destination. It was named after Governor Phillip’s encounter with the local'manly' aboriginal tribe in 1788.

Loving Pokemon Violet so far!
Miraidon is purple, draconic-looking, probably part Dragon-type, and when you’re riding it on the overworld it controls almost exactly like Spyro from the original Spyro The Dragon trilogy, right down to gliding being activated by pressing ‘jump’ twice in a row!
Now they just need to add a spinny orange legendary based on Perameles gunnii, the Eastern Barred Bandicoot, and  it’ll be perfect! XD

AWwww.....cute little guy with the big snout.......
Tumblr media
Excerpt from this story from BBC:
Numbers of the Eastern Barred Bandicoot plummeted on the mainland because of foxes and habitat destruction.
Now, after 30 years of conservation efforts, the number has jumped from just 150 animals to an estimated 1,500.
It is the first time Australia has changed the status of an animal from "extinct in the wild" to "endangered".
When recorded population levels of the bandicoots plunged in Australia's Victoria state in the years leading up to the late 1980s, conservation teams invested millions of dollars setting up captive breeding programmes.
They created predator-free sites - some of which were protected by trained dogs - and moved some of the animals to fox-free islands.
Announcing the change in conservation status of the bandicoot on Wednesday, Victoria's Environment Minister Lily D'Ambrosio said she was "excited" about the project's success, adding: "It is an incredible first for Australia."
A threatened species biologist at Zoos Victoria in Melbourne, Amy Coetsee, said the news offered "hope that with persistence, determination and the support of government, volunteers and communities, we can win the fight against extinction", AFP news agency reported.
