Todays Spinny wheel which I was super excited about:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I wouldn’t have remembered this au if it weren’t for me deciding to do this Spinny wheel challenge and digging through my old notes to find this-
It’s an old au and I so desperately want to talk about it but basically: old gay ghosts (and more) get stuck inside toys and dolls via magic and tragedy, and get to be happy and “live” like how they should have been able to in life. (It’s called broken dollhouse, bc the dollhouse is haunted and magic and it got broken for 50 years, triggering the whole toy/doll transformation thing. Only can be fixed by the toymaker [higari <3]. It’s not as complicated as it sounds I swear /lh)

PARKOUR PRO TAKES ON EPIC LEVELLED CHALLENGE (REAL) (HEARTBREAKING) (NOT CLICKBAIT)
Ranboo emerged from his front door and squinted into the rising sun. His house loomed behind him, a block of stone hanging in space next to more identical houses. The local neighbourhood of parkour pros didn’t have a lot of variation. The ground between the houses was a uniform grid of blocks of dirt placed two blocks apart, far enough that you could only jump it if you sprinted. Ranboo sat back on his heels to enjoy the view, and then grabbed frantically for purchase as the wheels set in the heels of his iron boots (custom heelies) slid on his stairs. He caught himself and took a deep breath, fingers digging into his doorframe. Falling would suck. He was better than this. He wouldn’t fall. His eyes dropped to the space between the blocks, the place where one of his feet was sticking over the edge. Or: Peerpressure Parkour Civilization AU

I really really tried to keep it to 5k you guys. You don't know how hard I tried. Anyways. Parkour. Tommy is here for a bit. You can play spot the skeppy.
It SHOULD be accessible even if you haven't watched the source video, droid hadn't seen the videos, and honestly I would recommend not watching the source material, it is a lot. i love ur mo4 fics so far!!! i cant wait to see what else u might write about them !!
thank you!! so far i'm focusing on whispered wishes since i'm honestly planning on turning it into something novel-length at this point. you should see my notes for this thing, they're SO messy but i have a pretty good idea for where it's gonna go.
however, if i post another short oneshot, i might pivot away from eclair content and write something either fusakin-centric, arakawa-centric, or adukin-centric. and just in general, i feel like i'm definitely going to write something for fusakin at some point because his character arc fascinates me! even though it's played for laughs in the game, the concept of gaining a physical form in exchange for essentially haunting one specific location scans as really melancholy to me. idk.
thank you for the ask! i love getting nice messages about my work ^^ since mo4 has a very small english fanbase i don't see as many views on my fics as i do on my longer BSD fics, but that's kind of understandable since it doesn't have an official english release. but whenever someone tells me they like my work it's v encouraging SKKSLSKSKSJKDJ this got long but i just got excited, apologies ^_^

CHAPTER EIGHT. HEREDITARY TRAITS.
"Where have you been?" Kilik asked, looking up. Casper, sat beside him, gently tugged the charm out of Kilik's hands and tried to finish it, but wasn't quite fast enough to tie all the knots before it set.
"Mail," Harv repeated, rolling his eyes.
"It's been hours."
"Has it?" Harv's voice was dry as the desert.
"I think I ruined it," Casper said quietly.
"No, it's stable," Kilik replied, his attention pulled back to the unfinished charm. "How did you…?" He and Casper picked at the knots in the charm, slowly unraveling it while Oscar sorted through the mail.

Now finished with the KiraKira Precure movie
I really wanted to like this one, but there's just a lot of things I didn't enjoy.
The Paris setting is nice, I'm always ready for something else than Japanese suburbs, even if it doesn't last long when the villain turns everything into candyland. Also I like how they just start the movie with the cast at the Eiffel Tower and don't waste any time explaining how they got there. And speaking of having the story take place in France, is Jean-Pierre the most French name for a side character or what?
The movie had an unexpected and very much un-appreciated appearance of the Mahou Tsukai Precure. I'm not a fan of this crossover stuff if the character interactions are going to be at "I'm Cure Whatever! I'll take care of this :D" "Thanks Cure Whatever!! :)" level. The film already has the stupid Miracle Sticks shoehorned in at dramatic scenes (multiple times in this case), and this is just even more extra stuff forced in for the sake of marketing. So I've never seen a single episode of the Mahou Tsukai girls but I already kinda hate them... Go get your own movie.
Story-wise this was kind of a weak film too. I was initially super into the setup of exploring Ciel's apprenticeship years, but even for a kids' movie the story was kinda dumb and the message was somewhat unclear. Still nice that this was a Ciel-centric story since she's my fave KiraKira Cure.
Still, I like the visuals and the girls have great outfits, and I can't fully dislike a movie that has giant eclair-worms wreaking havoc.

My Thoughts On Huythia’s Trip To The UK
Our trip to England and Scotland was a cold blur. Because Cynthia only had a work week book-ended by two weekends off, we essentially had eight days to enjoy the UK and after doing it, it really did fly by and we really fit in a ton of things in a short period of time. The UK is actually way more massive than I had originally thought and trying to cover a lot over a short period of time is very tiring, as you can imagine. Plus, when you travel in cold weather, it really wears you down, for sure. Even with all of that, I’m glad we fit in what we did. Knowing that we had a limited amount of time and that we also had to go back to work afterward, we tried our best not to fit in too too much and spread ourselves too thin. And I think we did a good job with that. At the end of it all, I'm really glad we went to both England and Scotland and it was nice to see two totally different countries in that short period of time.
England was great. England provided its historical, picturesque countryside towns and villages, like Malmesbury and Bourton-on-the-Water. In contrast to that, England also gave us the large, metropolitan city feeling of London. In London, we walked through all sorts of different neighborhoods with their own uniqueness. We also had lots of opportunities to try and enjoy typical English foods and desserts. And finally, we were able to visit and see a lot of historic landmarks and sites that everyone's heard about without having to do a ton of driving (though for most of them, we didn't have a chance to go inside).
Scotland was great too. Scotland provided the landscapes and natural beauty that I always look for and covet on my trips around the world. As a photographer, I'm always looking for places to drive and hike to and to photograph away from the booming and bustling cities, and Scotland provided just that. The green and foggy drives through rolling hills and forests with a pinch of colors. The beautiful and remote Isle of Skye, full of amazing and unique landscapes that are photography-worthy, especially on beautiful, partly cloudy days, which we were very fortunate to have for most days on our trip.
And not to forget, Scotland also provided the setting for the most memorable highlight of the entire trip and a highlight of a lifetime: a beautiful sunrise proposal at the Old Man of Storr on November 26th, 2019. I couldn't have asked for a better scenario than what we had that day to get engaged to my other half, Cynthia :) And of course, the beautiful, relaxing, warm, and much needed engagementmoon that followed at the Isle of Eriska was a spectacular and a much needed mid-trip break that really kept us going the last few days of the trip.
This trip ended up being very successfully planned, with each of us completely planning one country the way we wanted the other to experience it. To completely split the trip up like that was something we had never done before but it was fun! It was nice to be able to sit back on one half of the trip and just relax and go with the plan put out by the other. It was fun to experience a trip that was planned according to the other person's likes and tendencies when they travel. My drive-heavy, outside-the-city, full-of-cool-hikes-and-photo-worthy-spots trip compared to Cynthia's low-key, city-roaming, minimal driving city-and-town-centric trip. So typical of us! And because of the results, we'll definitely have to try split-planning again in the future!
Overall, our trip was fun, memorable, happy, and cold and wintry. Though rushed and filled with late, cold mornings and lots and lots of after-sunset exploring, we still had an amazing time in the short week that we were there. Even if we missed a ton of things. The UK has so much to offer and so many things to see and do that we just couldn't fit them all in. But because it's such an easy place to visit (no language barrier, not that far from the U.S., easy transportation (except for the driving on the left side of the road)), we'll definitely have to come back at some point in the future and see all the things that we missed or glazed over! Maybe next time, though, we'll pick a warmer time with more daylight that we can take advantage of. Britain, we'll be back at some point but it'll be after we check off some more places on our must-visit list. Hopefully, by that time, you've figured out this Brexit thing, hahaha.
It was a pleasure, England and Scotland! Thanks to all of the random and nice people we met, the good weather we encountered, the great landscapes we saw, and all the other unforgettable experiences that made this trip a memorable one! Until next time!

2010s round up
i thought i’d round up my best fics (at least imo) of the decade for y’all
by year:
2010: Alfons and Alphonse is a rather introspective FMA (2003) fic where Edward ruminates on the similiarities between his roommate in Germany and his brother in Amestris, who he (as far as he’s aware) can never see again. wc: 1312. no ship. rated T.
2011: Disgust is the only fic I have on AO3 from that year, so it wins out by default. wc: 292. fandom: Harry Potter. ship: one-sided Draco/Ginny. rated G. Written for an LJ RP exchange.
2012: Homecoming is a No. 6 fic I wrote for a gift exchange. It features Nezumi coming back after the anime finale. wc: 296. ship: Nezumi/Shion. rated G.
2013: Of the fics I posted that year, I think my Almei week collection (posted as one single multichapter fic) is probably the best one. The first chapter is in the 03 anime universe, and the remaining six follow FMAB in an interconnected series of (mostly) fluffy ficlets. AlMei Week 2013. WC: 6944 Fandom: Fullmetal Alchemist. Ship: Alphonse/Mei. Rated T.
2014: I participated in Royai Week that year, with a fic that subverted many popular tropes in the fandom and treated Roy and Riza like the war criminals they canonically are. The fic is super dark and disturbing (especially after not having reread it for several years), but I think it holds up. Royai Week 2014. WC: 5595. Fandom: Fullmetal Alchemist. Ship: Roy/Riza. Not Rated. Mentions of genocide, war crimes, torture, vomit, burning people alive, the works (some of it detailed).
2015: inspired by a tumblr post I’m no longer able to find, Confession is a Monthly Girls Nozaki-kun fic where Chiyo tries to ask Nozaki out... and his response isn’t quite what she expects. wc: 732. rated G. (honorable mention in the same fandom: Katawa Mikorin)
2016: I actually focused only on original fiction this year, so there’s no fanfic to be found, but the original fiction projects I was working on are available on tumblr at @thisisgettingwayoutofhand and @abenteuerinwestberlin
2017: Rather than go with one of my more popular fics, my pick for 2017 is The Trouble with Hänschen, a 70s East German Yuri!!! on ICE AU. It’s historically accurate and optimistic. Featuring references of Jewish life & LGBT culture in the USSR & GDR. Happy ending. wc: 4032. ship: otayuri. rated T. no warnings.
2018: though there was a LOT of great fic to pick from this year, my pick has to be Crush‘d, which I wrote for the 2018 Big Bang on ICE. It’s a Yuri!!! on ICE / Clueless fusion, wherein Yuri Plisetsky is an emo kid version of Cher (and they’re in suburban Philly, not LA). It’s a solid, complete read, and I drew a lot from my own adolescence, and my artists ( @eclair and @binreiss ) were absolutely wonderful! wc: 62622. ship: otayuri (secondary victuuri / jjbella, bg milasara / emimike). rated M.
2019: I actually can’t pick just one from this year. It’s a two way tie, for two different fandoms. one of them is I Know My Luck Too Well, which is a Remus Lupin-centric Harry Potter fic I wrote for Fandom 5K. It details Remus’s attempt to live as a Muggle in the mid-1980s, and touches on his trauma from the war, and his loneliness. (wc: 8458; rated M; angsty, optimistic ending). The other is tame our ways (if we start to devise something more), a 5.3k Chronicles of Narnia fic wherein Edmund Pevensie copes with his attraction for one of his classmates at his co-ed university. rated M; period-typical attitudes, but again: overall optimistic.
by fandom:
I’m only considering fandoms wherein I wrote more than three fics in the past decade.
Harry Potter: Fantastic Beasts Era: Fantastic Professors and Where To Find Them, 2018. Newtina Professors AU. Rated G. 2507 words. Marauders Era: I Know My Luck Too Well, 2019. (see 2019, above). Hogwarts Mystery Era: Mum Knows Best, 2019. Charlie/Rolf, post-canon blind date. Canon compliant. Rated M. 4709 words. Lightning Era: Flatshare, 2019. Neville/Luna Muggle Roommates AU. Rated E. 8015 words. Next Gen: my hands shake, i can't explain this, 2019. Scorbus friends with benefits-to-lovers. rated M. Canon compliant. 4365 words.
Yuri!!! on ICE: Again, I have to go with Crush‘d (see 2018, above). For a canon-compliant fic, I’d recommend Operation Win Plisetsky Over (As A Friend), 2017, rated G, 1431 words. JJ tries to befriend Yuri.
Fullmetal Alchemist: See Royai Week 2014, (2014), above.
The Umbrella Academy: some kind of hero in disguise, 2019. a middle school AU where the Hargreeves are still superheroes, just in public school, and Dave Katz lives in the City (and is their age). Funny, mildly-to-moderately cracky, 2108 words. rated G. no pairing, but you can (and are invited to) read in Klaus/Dave.
Monthly Girls’ Nozaki-kun: see Confession, 2015, above.
Miraculous Ladybug: What happens on Erasmus..., 2018. Study Abroad/Erasmus AU (& no powers AU). Adrien and Marinette find themselves studying abroad in the same city, drawn together by mutual friends. Slow burn! 51809 words. rated T. Marinette/Adrien. for canon-compliant, see Up All Night, a gen fic about Nathaniel celebrating Shavuot
by genre / trope:
Angst: The Sharpest Lives, 2018. fandom: Harry Potter. wc: 10313. Regulus Black-centric. rated T. implied / mentioned suicide & child abuse. | Regulus Black through his years at Hogwarts.
Pure Fluff: let's fall in love (what else is there to say?), 2018. fandom: Harry Potter. wc: 4142. pairing: Rolf/Charlie. rated G. | Rolf invites his new boyfriend, Charlie, to celebrate Chanukah with him.
Angst & Fluff: How Not To Marry Your Soulmate, 2019. fandom: The Good Place. wc: 4225. pairing: Eleanor/Tahani. rated E. | In Attempt #218, Jason plans Tahani and Eleanor’s wedding. Team Cockroach is tortured (they’re in hell, after all), but there’s fluff and humor to balance it out.
Fluff & Humour: Of Furbies and Dark Magic, 2019. fandom: Harry Potter. wc: 4283. pairing: Neville/Anthony. rated T. | Anthony’s cousin gives him a Furby. Neville’s convinced it’s cursed.
Romantic Comedy: i bloom just for you, 2019. fandom: Red, White & Royal Blue wc: 2519. pairing: Alex/Henry. rated M. | Alex convinces Henry to let him bottom. It goes about as expected.
Situational Comedy: Ain’t No Lie (I’m Bi Bi Bi), 2019. fandom: Brooklyn Nine-Nine. wc: 2361. pairing: N/A (bg peraltiago). rated T. | Jake is pretty sure the whole precinct knows he’s bi by now, right? ...right?
by AU:
Soulmate AU: suddenly here we are (thinking "what are the odds"), 2019. fandom: Harry Potter. wc: 5621. pairing: Neville/Anthony. rated T. | body-swap soulmate AU set during Deathly Hallows.
Mundane AU: (all i want is to see through you), 2019. fandom: Harry Potter. wc: 25584. pairing: Regulus/OC | Sirius talks Regulus, a professional soccer player, into going on a reality dating show.
College / Uni AU: What happens on Erasmus..., 2018. fandom: Miraculous Ladybug. wc: 51809. pairing: Marinette/Adrien. rated T | Marinette and Adrien meet while studying abroad in Berlin.
High School AU: so let the party & the sounds rock on, 2019. fandom: Harry Potter. wc: 3119. pairing: Neville/Anthony. rated T | Anthony’s best friend Michael drags him to a college Halloween party.
best original characters:

The Lightning Conference Preview in Six Stories
Between October 19 and October 20, 2019, The Lightning Conference will turn the city of Berlin, Germany, into the bona fide world capital of the Lightning Network. The event is an opportunity for developers, investors and enthusiastic community members to get together and exchange their experiences with Bitcoin’s second layer payment network. For the first time since its early-2018 Bitcoin mainnet launch, representatives and fans of all four major Lightning implementations (Lightning Labs’ lnd, Blockstream’s c-lightning, ACINQ’s eclair and Nayuta’s Ptarmigan) will get together and discuss their ideas and innovations in a friendly and collaborative way.
The event is a spiritual successor to the Berlin #LightningHackday series and takes place just over a year after the September 2018 event. But unlike the “barcamp” format of the previous developer-centric events, The Lightning Conference broadens its reach to also appeal to businesses and the larger community. This approach is also reflected in the choice of speakers, among whom one can also find podcasters, open-source entrepreneurs and representatives of businesses that use Lightning as a means of payment.
In order to find out more about the significance of this first-of-its-kind event, Bitcoin Magazine spoke with a Lightning executive (Lightning Labs CEO Elizabeth Stark), a researcher (PISA Research CEO Patrick McCorry), an entrepreneur (Wasabi Wallet, World Crypto Net, Nodl and Coldcard Wallet investor Max Hillebrand), a marketer (Bottle Pay Co-Founder and Operations Manager Peter O’Donoghue) and two developers (Satoshi’s Games Co-Founder Carlos Roldan and Bolt-A-Thon Co-Organizer Andrew Yang).
These six speakers and participants have been asked two fundamental questions:
1. What is the significance of this first-of-its-kind Lightning-centric event?
2. What will you be presenting (if applicable) and which panels get you most excited?
Their answers varied according to their backgrounds and interests, and ultimately revealed the spirit of this first edition of The Lightning Conference.
Elizabeth Stark on the Importance of Togetherness
As CEO of Lightning Labs, Elizabeth Stark has been in the spotlight of the Bitcoin scaling debate for more than three years. She started rising to prominence within the community after co-hosting a panel on Bitcoin disruption at Consensus 2016, and it didn’t take her long to become one of the most respected figures in the space. Prior to becoming a larger-than-life personality in the Bitcoin space, Stark taught at Stanford University and Yale University, made sporadic Bitcoin-related contributions on GitHub (which culminated in the creation of the Lightning Labs repository in January 2017) and advised young entrepreneurs.
Stark emphasized the importance of meeting people in person and exchanging ideas.
“We’d seen this community emerge online over the past few years, and we decided it was finally time to get everyone together in one place,” she said. In the case of this conference, this “one place” is Berlin: “Berlin was a great choice, as there had already been lots of Lightning Hack Days there, and there’s a strong local community.”
I really believe in the power of getting people together in one place, and the magic that can come along with it.
— Elizabeth Stark
Lightning Network clients are being developed on three continents (c-lightning and lnd in North America, eclair in Europe and Ptarmigan in Asia) and there are plenty of enthusiasts all over the world who would like to meet their online contacts. For Stark, this in-person contact is key.
“I really believe in the power of getting people together in one place, and the magic that can come along with it,” she said. “There are a lot of folks I can’t wait to meet (many for the first time in person), and there are plenty of topics we’re excited to discuss with the dev community.”
She is particularly looking forward to the social, human rights and business-focused discussions that are part of the conference programming.
“I’m excited to hear a bunch of the talks we’ve accepted,” Stark explained. “There’s one on the human rights implications of Lightning, we have perspectives from folks in Venezuela … people speaking about privacy and lots of folks talking about developing on and deploying Lightning for their business.”
Patrick McCorry on Lightning Research and Development
Patrick McCorry was the first person in the U.K. to successfully defend a PhD thesis on the topic of cryptocurrencies, and his research in Bitcoin and cryptography has appeared in many academic venues and conferences (including Scaling Bitcoin 2017 and 2019, as well as Breaking Bitcoin 2017). Before becoming the CEO of PISA Research, he taught as an assistant professor at King’s College London and conducted research at University College London, University of Illinois and Newcastle University.
In accordance with his background, McCorry defined the significance of The Lightning Conference in relation to researchers, developers and investors.
“Off-chain protocols are woefully under-researched, under-developed, under-funded, yet remain the only realistic scalability solution that will let millions of people access cryptocurrencies,” he said. “So, dedicated events like The Lightning Conference are crucial for bringing off-chain scalability to the forefront of minds for researchers, developers and even investors.”
The software is in a condition now where developers can play with it and innovate. So it will be great to see the demos emerge.
— Patrick McCorry
McCorry said he’s looking for interesting innovations and proof-of-concept releases which are emerging at this point in development.
“I’m really excited to see the progress in terms of applications being built on top of Lightning,” he said. “The software is in a condition now where developers can play with it and innovate. So it will be great to see the demos emerge.”
McCorry also has plans to reveal PISA Research’s goals during the event: “At PISA Research, we are tasked with building financially accountable watchers for the Lightning Network. For us, it is really important to highlight the quirks and difficulties of building watchers for Bitcoin (the channel protocol really does need to be changed at some point via a soft fork), and to also demystify what a watching network can and can’t do,” he said.
Max Hillebrand on Entrepreneurship and Privacy
In a June 2019 podcast, Max Hillebrand revealed that he started reading Keynes at the age of nine and then got into Bitcoin at 16. He has since taken his advocacy so far that he even convinced his grandmother to run a Lightning node, encouraged local farmers to accept BTC in exchange for vegetables and recently started a fiat-free life.
In tandem with his love for liberty and privacy, Hillebrand is also an open-source entrepreneur whose investment portfolio will leave every Bitcoin enthusiast in awe: Some of the projects he backs and supports include BTCPay Server, Nodl and Wasabi Wallet.
Like Stark, Hillebrand reiterated the importance of networking and community building.
“I seek to mingle with all the peers who are thinking, breathing and doing Bitcoin,” he said. “I get to ask some of the many questions I have, and from the conversations with these wizards I learn so much. This is also the place to talk problem, strategy and solution with other entrepreneurs who are providing valid services, and what can be done to further improve. At these brainstorming sessions the brightest business ideas develop, together with the right peers willing to manifest it.”
Assuming that we get Taproot and Sighash no input activated in the protocol, I claim that we have “perfect” privacy in Bitcoin, and I seek to defend that claim.
— Max Hillebrand
Because of his personal interest and projected takeaways from the event, Hillebrand gravitates toward sessions at the conference that will focus on privacy-centered technologies in Lightning.
“Specifically for my attendance at LN Conf, I seek to gain more understanding of the nuances of how privacy can be better defended in Lightning,” he said. “I’m also interested in tips for developing a new protocol implementation, one that prioritizes privacy first and foremost. This is especially useful because these are some of the future goals of Wasabi, so lots to learn and do.”
As a presenter, Hillebrand will talk about privacy and the technical means that can maximize it on both Bitcoin’s base layer and Lightning.
“The talk will explain some nuances about atomic swaps and CoinJoins to open channel factories, zero knowledge proofs to exit a factory, rendezvous trampoline atomic multipath routing and whatever other crazy magic happens in the rabbit hole in the meantime,” he explained. “Assuming that we get Taproot and Sighash no input activated in the protocol, I claim that we have ‘perfect’ privacy in Bitcoin, and I seek to defend that claim.”
Peter O’Donoghue on Collaboration and Meeting Developers
Bottle Pay is one of the most successful Lightning-powered tipping services on social media, and the company’s co-founder and operations manager Peter O’Donoghue is very much aware of the need for collaboration. Bottle, which is presented as a project whose mission is to make Bitcoin accessible to everyone, stands out as a jack-of-all-trades which allows integrations with all of the popular social media platforms (including Instagram, Telegram, Reddit, GitHub, Twitch, YouTube, Mixcloud and Twitter). The dedicated plug-ins for Firefox, Chrome and Brave also extend the ease of use, so that anyone who has no prior knowledge or understanding of Bitcoin or Lightning can participate in the circular economy.
“When we reflect on the fact that the first Lightning implementation developed by Lightning Labs launched in beta just 18 months ago, to see the first ever conference dedicated entirely to Lightning happening like this is really exciting,” O’Donoghue told Bitcoin Magazine.
It’s important to remember how crucial collaboration is for such a nascent technology.
— Peter O’Donoghue
The Bottle Pay co-founder emphasized the need for collaboration in the Lightning space, especially among developers.
“It’s important to remember how crucial collaboration is for such a nascent technology,” he said. “Because we are all learning and using the tech in different ways, this conference will be a great opportunity to share knowledge, compare notes and see how we can move things forward together.”
O’Donoghue is particularly looking forward to catching up with fellow bitcoiners who attended the Baltic Honeybadger conference in Riga, including Jameson Lopp and Max Keidun from HodlHodl.
“I’m also very interested in the work of the Human Rights Foundation, so I can’t wait to see the presentation of Eric Wall, whose writing on Medium I enjoy,” he concluded. “Jack Mallers is fresh from unveiling Olympus, which should make for a great presentation.”
Andrew Yang and Carlos Roldan on Lightning Integrations and Games
Andrew Yang, who successfully co-organized the Bolt-A-Thon online conference earlier in 2019, regards the event as a demonstration of community and technology growth.
“It shows that the Lightning ecosystem is large enough in order to have its own conference,” he said. “Plus, it’s a great way for Lightning pioneers to share, collaborate, encourage and get inspired by one another. Hopefully it’ll be the first of many to come.”
… it’s a great way for Lightning pioneers to share, collaborate, encourage and get inspired by one another.
— Andrew Yang
At the upcoming conference in Berlin, Yang will focus on the the Bolt-A-Thon, along with his co-host Patrick Walters.
“We’ll touch on how our unique format of being an online conference reached and empowered people to get involved in a way they couldn’t before,” Yang said. “Patrick will also dive into the technical details of how we implemented Lightning Payments on our website.”
Indeed, one of the most important aspects about Lightning is its ability to be easily implemented in various applications that require fast and cheap payments. In this regard, it’s crucial for the entire community and for the long-term sustainability of the technology to attract developers from a variety of interesting projects.
Among these developers is Carlos Roldan, best known as the lead developer and founder of Satoshi’s Games, a video game platform where users can actually earn small BTC fractions by virtue of their skills. The concept is novel thanks to the integration of Lightning microtransactions, and the ever-growing selection of games should help the service grow while also popularizing Bitcoin’s second layer payments system.
We all know what LN is in generic terms, but each individual has a different conception about it and it’s important to exchange ideas.
— Carlos Roldan
At the event, the Satoshi’s Games founder will introduce new developments and creative video game ideas that are designed to help improve his project.
“The Lightning Conference is a significant event because it acts as a central point of meeting where the developers, researchers and companies get together to talk about their passion for the Lightning Network,” said Roldan. “We all know what LN is in generic terms, but each individual has a different conception about it and it’s important to exchange ideas.”

It’s a silly thing: Write at least 7 facts about yourself as a fan of the show. Tag your YoI fans in here if you like, and let’s see how many we are.
— I’ve never been this active in a fandom since??? Ever??? Haha I’m now part of a team that’s organizing a YOI centric event in the Philippines and I’m also part of several zines. It’s all so surreal. I love this show so much
— Before I got into the show (I got really into it around episode four lol) I actually predicted that I would like Otabek the best. It somewhat holds hahaha I mean Welcome to the Madness happened and I just lost it
— I love Christophe Giacometti and I’m still sad that not a lot from the Western fandom like him! Although I’ve found a home with the Japanese fans (who have no concept of afterdark, all hours are after dark, and I think that’s why I’m in the safelist because I tweet in JP hahaha) and I’ve also traded books with them!!! Very wholesome experiences
— I’m known in my past fandoms as the person who likes (or only person who creates content of) an obscure minor character (like Mikoshiba Seijuurou from Fr!). It’s kind of my job now hahaha I love Chris and his boyfriend, and Emil and Mickey!!! (And of course, Otabek hehe)
— I hated JJ because Mamo annoys me (in a good way) and I sort of felt bad since people mistook it for me actually hating on JJ and not just  me going OH MY GOD I HATE HIM MAKE HIM STOP as I draw him more often than the other characters
— I love Michele very much and I love how the show handled the Crispino twins you can fight me on this.
— Emil is my boyfriend.

Not a Month Into Beta, Lightning Applications Continue to Grow
With the advent of the long-anticipated Lightning Network (LN), crypto enthusiasts have more to look forward to than faster, cheaper transactions. Just as smart contracts brought DApps to Ethereum’s network, the Lightning Network is primed to bring a host of Lightning apps to Bitcoin. These applications, fittingly dubbed LApps, will leverage the Lightning Network to usher in a new generation of payment applications to the blockchain industry.
Lightning Labs rolled-out their beta for the first implementation of the Lightning Network on March 15, 2018. In practice, the Lightning Network allows Bitcoin users to send transactions on an off-chain network through payment channels. Since these channels aren’t connected to the blockchain, users can send near-instant transactions, however small they may be, without incurring exorbitant fees.
Before the Lightning Network went live, Lightning Labs launched their Lightning Desktop Wallet so users could get a feel for the network while it was in testnet. Now that the LN is in full beta, Lightning Lab’s wallet has been joined by Zap, a user-friendly wallet by Jack Mallers that’s meant to make the Lightning Network more accessible to the general public.
In the few weeks since its release, developers have introduced LApps for the network that look outside the limits of mere wallet and payment channel functionality. Now, there are dozens of Lightning applications for any of four distinct implementation (lnd, eclair, c-lightning and lit) across four programming languages (Go, C, Scala and Java), as developers continue to build on the technology.
One such developer, Nadav Ivgi, has been particularly busy. He’s the man behind the seven new applications showcased during Blockstream’s “Week of LApps.” The blockchain development company presented the projects as an extension of Lightning Charge, a payment processing solution for c-lightning, Blockstream’s implementation of the protocol in the C programming language.
Among these creations, Ivgi gives us nanotip, a tipbot that gives content creators and users an LN alternative to traditional bitcoin tipbots. Complementing the WooCommerce Lightning Gateway, one of Blockstream’s first LApps, Lightning Publisher is an additional WordPress plug-in that gives publishers an ad-free revenue alternative. With it, they can charge their readers a subscription to access content, payable through LN payment channels. Similarly, FileBazaar lets content creators monetize their data and files — be they pictures, videos or other documents — with an online marketplace that offers pay-per-view access to such content.
Lightning Charge’s LApp suite also comes with its own point-of-sale solution for merchants, nanopos. As one might imagine, point-of-sale applications have proliferated for the Lightning Network, as developers grind out code to find a solution to the market’s needs. Among these, we have another WooCommerce plug-in built on the Lightning Network Daemon (lnd), and Strike, a Stripe-esque API for merchants built with Eclair, the Scala programming language’s implementation of the LN. Eclair is also working on Lightning Conductor, an application that would allow users to convert their payment channel balances to bitcoin and back without closing the channels themselves.
Payment solution LApps abound but that hasn’t kept developers from building innovative, more nuanced applications for the Lightning Network. Take, for instance, Bitrefill, an application that allows you to top-off a prepaid mobile phone card with payment channels, or CoinMall, a Lightning-powered online marketplace for digital products. There’s even a Slack tipbot and one called CoinTippy for Reddit, Twitter, Telegram and other platforms. And then there’s 1ML, a search engine built to track nodes, applications and other aspects of the LN ecosystem.
There are more unconventional and curious manifestations still. Bitquest, a crypto-centric Minecraft server, is getting its own Lightning payments option, while Lightning Gem and Thunderdice have begun tapping into off-chain, Satoshi-funded gambling. Y’alls, a Yours-like blogging platform, is using Lightning payments for pay-per-view articles. Hungry? Lightning has that covered, as well, with Block and Jerry’s and Starblocks, crypto-couriers dishing out ice cream and coffee in exchange for LN micropayments (sadly, these services are not yet fully available).
This is just a sampling of an expanding list of LApps, and, if anything, the diversity of the applications currently in existence shows that the limits of what the Lightning Network can offer are confined to the imagination of the developers building on it. Bear in mind that, while these applications can run on either Bitcoin’s mainnet or testnet, their developers generally recommend that users stick to testnet payments until the Lightning Network’s kinks are ironed out. But with more than 1,000 nodes already supporting Lightning’s mainnet, it likely won’t be long until these, and other applications, can make the leap toward full functionality on Lightning Network’s growing architecture.
