Imagine Ouran hshc au with S4 as hosts cuz they're just beautiful ok. Maybe Saru as Kyoya and Munakata as Tamaki and Homra as their customers. Also imagine if they all have their favorite hosts who do you think would be whose favorite? I kinda like Yata with Saru and maybe Chitose and Doumyoji, Kamamoto and Kamo cuz Kamo's a chef. And of course a lot of sparkly Munakata <33

Somehow it feels weird that Homra would be their best customers though, rather than rivals or something XD Maybe Homra originally tries to be their rivals and like sneak into the host club to learn their secrets but then they end up kinda liking it there. Munakata is of course the sparkly founder of the host club, imagine him with like blue roses and elegant sparkles everywhere, serving tea to his guests and generally giving off this air of beauty that none of his customers can resist (except Mikoto, who is only Munakata's best customer because he enjoys seeing Munakata get caught off guard and annoyed and will keep coming back as much as possible just to irritate him). Fushimi handles the finances and is very ruthless about it, he probably doesn't even want to let Homra in because they could destroy things that will cost money to replace. Oh maybe that's why the Homra guys have to keep coming back, the first time they showed up there was a fight and Yata broke a very expensive vase. Fushimi grins as he tells Yata exactly how much it cost and how many visits Yata will have to make to the host club – paying a fee each time of course – in order to pay that money back. It helps to have repeat customers and their female clientele like watching the S4 hosts entertain the Homra boys so it's basically like the Homra guys are working but not getting paid. Yata can't believe he's being blackmailed by this shitty monkey and just for that he's going to keep coming back and making Fushimi entertain him every time, like ha see if you like that and Fushimi's just like oh no how terrible with this deadpan look because mission accomplished.

For the other Homra guys, I hadn't thought about Kamo and Kamamoto but I could totally see them bonding about cooking and Kamamoto going to Kamo all the time because he makes the best sweets. Chitose and Doumyouji get along a little too well and spend a lot of time chatting, Fushimi always makes sure someone keeps an eye on them so they don't destroy anything. Dewa I could see hanging out with Akiyama, since they're both fairly responsible and can keep an eye on Chitose and Doumyouji together. Fujishima enjoys going to see Benzai the most, they talk about kittens constantly and share cute cat photos on their phones. Eric probably goes with Fuse, they can both complain and make acid comments about other people together and have a weird sort of camaraderie. Bandou I could maybe see with Enomoto, they can complain about how women aren't interested in them and bond over being glasses characters. That would leave Akagi I think with Hidaka, they're both the type who can get along with anybody and maybe they discuss boobs together a lot. Gotou ends up as the favorite host of Totsuka, who enjoys learning about different cursed artifacts every visit and is the only one who can take Gotou's general weirdness absolutely in stride with no issues. Meanwhile Awashima is S4's only female host who mostly tries to keep everything running smoothly and is most often visited by Kusanagi, despite Awashima technically being the host(ess) here Kusanagi always ends up being the one to mix her a drink.

HEADCANONS: These are typical, very straightforward. Bulletpoints that consist of content.

5 characters (MAX)

SCENARIOS: These are more story-based and will not exceed too long. I would compare them to drabbles somewhat, but I will not cut them too short.

2 characters (MAX)

DRABBLES: Short in length, will range around 1,100 words or less. These will primarily be based on prompts.

3 characters (MAX)

IMAGINES: Long works that will be story-based. Number of words will not be ranged, and details will be very much there.

1 character (MAX)

What I WILL NOT write:

NON-CON: I do not stand for anything of the sort, and I will ask that anybody requesting refrain from requesting anything of this sort. This is not only an uncomfortable topic, but an illegal one, and while illegal topics are not off the board - this one is.

EXPLICIT SEXUAL CONTENT: I will write for suggestive content, but I reserve the right to deny any of this type. While this may change in the future, I do not feel comfortable writing this kind of content at the moment. This is primarily reserved for any requests that state anything in regards to kinks, sexual acts, etc. (If you want something suggestive, please indicate.)

TOO MANY CHARACTERS: If you see above, I have marked how many characters I will allow per writing type request. Anymore than the maximum number will be denied.

INCEST: Do I have to explain why I won’t write this type of content? This is disgusting and outright disturbing, and I would like to keep my mind out of that realm.

OMEGAVERSE: Too in depth, too time consuming. I have a lot of other activities, and if you want a specific request, I will do the best that I can in regards to research. Otherwise, this particular request has an extensive history and intake of knowledge

UNDERAGE RELATIONSHIPS: This is unlawful and disgusting, and it makes me incredibly uncomfortable. (This includes teacher and student relationships.)

ABUSIVE RELATIONSHIPS: This whole topic is something that is very disturbing and very much scary. It is also for a primary of the character being an abuser. I will not write the characters as abusers in relationships due to respect for the creators and the readers.

CHARACTER X CHARACTER: This is meant for direct request. Unless this is a small detail in a different request, this is not going to be permitted. Ship who you want, but I do not write explicitly for ships.

What I WILL write:

SUGGESTIVE CONTENT: All characters will be aged up if underage, and will not go into (hopefully) too extreme detail. I will include the content under cut for reader discretion.

SIBLING/PARENT FIGURE: This is specifically for a platonic/guardian-based relationship. This will not include any romance, but rather revolve around the familial aspect.

‘AU’S: Though I still reserve the right to deny certain AUs, I am not against any of these being requested. In fact, I love AUs, and writing them can be so much fun.

VIOLENCE: This is going to be worrying, but if violence is requested, I am fine with including it. This is going to be done in detail (if the request calls for it), and will be indicated with a disclaimer at the beginning of the requested piece.

ANGST: This is limited to certain things, of course, but if you want to ask for an angsty piece, go ahead.

MENTAL DISORDERS/MEDICAL CONDITIONS/BODY SPECIFICATIONS: These can be very messy, but I will do research to fulfill your request the best way I can. If I do manage to misconstrue the topic, don’t hesitate to tell me. (I know that this is a sensitive topic, so I want to be able to get it right.)

HORROR: This is where I will be willing to bend a few things, typically for yandere plots and things of a similar vein. I love to write this kind of thing, but this also means that the limits will be pushed, so if you want to request this, proceed with caution.

NOTE: All of my works will be written with gender neutral default, so if you want a male or female reader, then specify.

EMERGENCY REQUESTS:

This is for the moments when you need something written. Generally follows the same circumstances written above, but there are a few differences.

RESPONSE TIME: This is going to be within the span of a week. It is a slight long shot, but since I am unaware of the urgency of the requester’s request, this will be the general time span in which this will be written. This is subject to change over time, though.

REQUEST LIMITS: There will be none for things of this sort, but I will have to cap them off if there are too many coming in. I don’t want to do so, but it will have to happen if things get too overwhelming. (Again, this is only in the situation that these requests become overwhelming.) I want to make sure that these pieces are good and well-thought out so the requester(s) can enjoy them and find comfort in them, and I can’t do that when overwhelmed.

LABELING: When requesting for an emergency request, please label it as such. I don’t want to lump things of this sort in with the others since the requester may want it as soon as possible, and the regular requests typically tend to take me a week or more to write.

NOTE: All other rules above apply to this as well, though I would suggest that you read them through and decide what you want since the more characters, the longer to write it will take.

With that being covered, I will say that, aside from the portion dedicated to what I refuse to write, I am a pretty laid-back person. If you want to request for a reader dealing with an abusive ex, then go for it! A specific AU in which the reader and character are dealing with weird occurrences? Go ahead!

Like I said, I’m down for a good amount of things, but that also means that I will reserve my right to deny a request.

AO3 tag game

Got tagged by @kitsunebi-uk (thank you!) and I gotta do something with all this energy now so here we go!

WHAT IS YOUR TOTAL WORD COUNT ON AO3?

Currently 71,158 words, but I’m forever sneaking in to make small edits or fix the odd typo.

HOW OFTEN DO YOU WRITE?

I don’t have a schedule for it, but I keep two WIPs open at all times and jump into them as I get ideas. I do a bit every day, but it runs more like a few weeks of a few sentences per day followed by 5k in 24 hours.

DO YOU HAVE A ROUTINE FOR WRITING?

On a macro scale, I do a mix of outline and zero draft. I typically write the first scene and then think my way through the whole story, outlining as I go and stopping to jot down important lines or snippets when they hit me. The usual result is I have complete-ish first and last scenes with a mess in the middle. For example, the first thing I wrote in The Measure of My Time was that Oxford Very Short Introduction pastiche and the rest of chapter one, and the next chapter I finished was the epilogue, which was done long before I started posting Measure to AO3. On the other hand, both Living in the Maybe and Undoing the Poem took a long time to find their endings. Yuri on Persona (aka “When to Make Yourself a Hero”), my current main WIP, is the first time I’ve fully outlined before I even created a draft document, but that was a must because it’s going to be in the ballpark of 20 chapters. And now I’ve got the first scene done in the draft and an extra 3k words of future scenes in the outline, so I’m back to my usual.

On the scene level, I start with dialogue, sometimes so much so that it reads like a script, and flesh out actions until there’s, like, a story or something. I don’t usually work chronologically within scenes, same as above. They have beginnings and endings, and then I gotta figure out the twists and turns between those points.

If we’re talking location, music, etc.? At home, always. Cannot write in public or in my office spaces. Usually no music because I can’t listen passively. Coffee because I’m always drinking coffee.

WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE KINKS/TROPES/PAIRINGS?

To preface, I don’t actually do transformative fandom for a lot of media that I love. I haven’t read fic for the MCU or Critical Role, and with Star Wars I went through a lot of the EU as a teenager but don’t care to read amateur fic. Star Trek, Doctor Who, BSG, Persona, Sailor Moon, Discworld, The Good Place, all major media influences on my life with zero or near-zero appeal as fic. So this isn’t anywhere near a full treatment of the things I ship non-transformatively.

I’m super character-centered, so favored kinks and tropes depend 100% on what I’m reading. Characters and ships have gotten me into things I otherwise don’t care for, and I often still don’t care for those things with other characters/ships.

My typical approach is fixating on a character or two and shipping them with several other characters. In YoI, that character is Yuri Plisetsky, at least in terms of ships. I like him with almost anybody under the right circumstances. Viktor is also that way for me on a much smaller scale re: ships and a big, big way re: fixation.

Some other characters and their ships that have stuck with me through the years: Treize Khushrenada of Gundam Wing, shipped with Zechs, Lady Une, and sometimes Heero and/or Quatre a few years and a lotta therapy down the road in Treize Lives AUs. Remus Lupin of Harry Potter, shipped primarily with Sirius but also Tonks, just as the bisexual disasters they are instead of… whatever the fuck that was, Joanne. Ohtori Kyouya of Ouran High School Host Club, main ship being an OT3 with Haruhi and Tamaki, but nobody fuckin writes it, so I mostly read Kyouya/Tamaki and Kyouya/Haruhi and dream of the day I get a plot bunny for them. If I started on Bioware characters, we’d be here all day, but my big one is Kaidan Alenko, shipped with Shepard of any gender, Ashley Williams, OT3 with Shepard and Ash aka Team Milky Way, and Steve Cortez.

Viktuuri are my outliers because I mostly (mostly) don’t ship them with other people, or if I do it’s usually (usually) in a way that results in them being together in the end, either as a couple or in a poly arrangement. But then, they’re also the ones who made me start writing fic after a fifteen-year break, so their impact on my life has been waaaaaaaay disproportionate.

DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE FIC OF YOURS?

Right now, it’s both stories of the Measure-verse so far. They are long (for me, the lady who otherwise does one-shots of 1.5-5k words) and I finished them and the setting is pretty weird and I love them.

YOUR FIC WITH THE MOST KUDOS?

*sigh* Dilemmas. 2355 right now. I don’t like to sound unappreciative, but maaaaaaan do I not consider that story an accurate representation of my priorities as a writer, so the fact that it has almost six times the kudos of my next fic down (PDA Monster, which, along with much of my work, is 100% representative of my priorities of fuck you) is kind of frustrating sometimes.

ANYTHING YOU DON’T LIKE ABOUT YOUR WRITING?

My inability to spot words or phrases I don’t reuse too badly in a single story but across my whole body of work, hooooo boy, that’s another matter.

I’d seen people complain about smut being difficult to write, but wow Measure chs 3 & 6 were a hardship. It’s an action scene with so many moving parts where you’ve gotta keep the focus tight on the characters’ feelings so it doesn’t get clinical, and also you don’t want it to get too flowery, and also there’s only so many ways to describe what’s happening here without slipping into metaphor or turning into an A&P textbook, and also aarrrrrrrgh. I need more practice. So of course I decided to do Yuri on Persona at a hard T rating. *headdesk*

NOW SOMETHING YOU DO LIKE (ABOUT YOUR WRITING)?

I do not half-ass things ever ever ever. I stand behind my characterization choices (though I also don’t want to write characters the same way across all stories! I like exploring multiple takes on one person), and I work hard to sell even the simple or odd things I write. I’ve always had a good memory for detail, but I honestly think my grad work has given me strong skills at building my arguments based on canon evidence and working them into plots without obviously pushing an agenda (major exception being PDA Monster because I was real mad, and even then I bet nobody can guess who caused it).

Now I’m gonna make more coffee and take a swing at some Yuri on Persona.

Fandoms or Originals: Fandoms - specifically Naruto

What I’m Looking For:

1) Style: I'm really only interested in roleplaying prose style, 3rd person, past-tense. My length varies, but almost guaranteed that I can match whatever length you throw at me - I prefer quality to quantity, but sometimes in order to have the former you have to have the latter, and sometimes quality means getting to the point.

2) Responses: How fast you get a response depends on what day of the week it is, how long the responses are, how much we're talking and plotting, and how hype I am for the roleplay. That said, if we're getting along and we seem to mesh in terms of roleplaying style I have no doubt that I can keep up with most people. I do hold a job, though, and occasionally go out! Let's say that I'm comfortable committing a response a few times a week, but it could be a lot more or a lot less depending on every other factor we have.

3) Limits: Sexual content is acceptable if you're 18+. Absolutely no excessive gore, please!

4) Expectations: Okay if we're being real, I would love to incorporate multiple love interests for each of our ocs sort of like a reverse harem, or love square (pentagon, even), or even otome-like scenario. I will double with as many canons for you as you roleplay for me. If we get comfortable and have multiple roleplays running, then sometimes this may vary and that's fine. If I have as many as I want and you want more, chances are I'll do that as well.

This means that yes I double, triple, quadruple, etc etc etc. My own character relationships will be het - I'm happy to double with f//. I'd prefer to stray away from m// if at all possible. That said, if you are my writing soul-mate in every other aspect, I won't turn you away if that's what you seek.

I can also double with canon x canon pairings you're craving as long as they don't infringe on my pairings, haha. Or I can roleplay dude ocs as well. Or male characters from other fandoms.

5) Worlds: I actually enjoy the canon Naruto setting, but I feel like there are so many episodes, and I'm not near caught up (I do know the bulk of what happens, though, and I don't mind spoilers). So I'd prefer AU - whether that's a minor AU and we just change the story, but it stays in the original world, or we throw them into another fandom setting or an original setting is entirely up for discussion.

I love fantasy (of many kinds - although I have one in particular I'm craving), action, romance, drama, slice-of-life, adventure, video game and mystery settings. However I'd like to avoid horror and extreme gore. It's just not my thing.

I have tons of ideas, so no need to fret in that department.

6) Canons: I have stipulations about how I want my canons played. I most crave Sasuke Uchiha and Itachi Uchiha. If we have more canons than 2 (which is my preference), then I also really enjoy Shisui Uchiha - and after that I enjoy Neji Hyuuga and Minato Namikaze as well as some others - like Kakashi, Shikamaru, Haku, Kimimaro, Deidara, Sasori, Tobirama, Iruka... etc.

The only ones I WILL not play are the first three mentioned. I will literally double with anybody else you like, even if they are on my list (unless I am really craving them for a specific setting). I have stipulations for Itachi and Shisui - because I want them played how they were (Shisui has room to be developed) before shit went down with the Uchiha clan. I'm not interested in mute assassin Itachi, if that alleviates any stress in playing him. Shisui I also have loose ideas for. Think flirty goof.

I have the most experience playing Kakashi, Naruto, Shikamaru, Zabuza, Tobi, Gaara, Kiba and Yamato. I have also played Iruka, Haku, Kankuro, Kabuto, Choji, Lee, and Deidara. If that matters to you - like I said I'm willing to play almost anybody from this series. If I'm not super-familiar with them I will have you explain them and do my research.

7) Other fandoms I know: (I may be able to play canons from them to double with, or we can just use the settings): Persona (3&4), Avatar: The Last Airbender, Your Lie in April, Ouran High School Host Club (I can play like any canon from this), Fruits Basket, Saint Tail, Cardcaptors, Sailor Moon, Yona of the Dawn, SAO, Inuyasha, Pokemon, Kamisama Kiss... I know lots, but that's all that's coming to mind at the moment. Feel free to inquire.

Craving: A:TLA, Persona, or Saint Tail setting with the Naruto canons and our ocs. Or maybe Kamisama Kiss, YotD, or YLiA?

I love school settings. And fantasy settings (modern, high, medieval). I think a prestigious musical and arts school would be awesome. I enjoy taboo relationships (within reason) in fiction as well as moderate age-gaps - though none of these are necessary. I do enjoy incorporating some Japanese culture (like HS is 3 years not 4, and the suffixes are nice if you know how to use them) in these. It's less necessary in fantasy settings.

I also have miscellaneous ideas. I'm an idea-generator.

8) Other concerns: I more or less don't mind Mary-Sues (as long as they don't interfere with my characters). Pretty much all the characters from Naruto are ninja gods, so I totally get why we may need hyper incredible people to keep up with them. Even in normal settings, the genius of some of these characters is awe-inspiring. So no worries there, just try to be flexible.

I would like to have an ongoing OOC chat with my partners! This helps motivate me to post and it's helpful for plotting and such. I can use skype, line, discord, steam - whatever is easiest for you. If not, then I guess we can have an OOC doc or something.

I like to be in charge of my own oc and the canons I want played for me. At least to some degree - and I expect input on how you want the canons you're asking for to interact with yours. My goal is to make you fangirl (or boy, or... just fan in general, whatever you identify as). I want you to have that goal as well!

soulmates of different flavors

so im thinking about an ohshc AU where each soulmate pair has a different soulmate trope that binds them together but the ouran kids are my favorite ot7/brot7 so this is really just turning into an excuse to come up with different soulmate tropes but here’s what i have so far:

Honey can taste his soulmates’ happiness, because honey sees clearly the sweetness of life, and wants his soulmates to share in that sweetness. That’s why he’s always offering people cake!

Mori’s thing is you can hear the background music of the anime that is his life. When he’s fighting tournaments, it plays action music. during sad moments for the others, he hears the tortured melodic refrains. He’s so quiet because he’s constantly listening to the music of his own soulmates.

Haruhi is colorblind until she meets them, so nobody can see red, and she just straight up can’t see colors. That’s why she dresses kind of drably. But also, it’s because they bring color into her life.

Hikaru has the red string of fate. Because he’s attached, and of course kaoru is too, but he needs to know where people stand with him and that they’re still there even when they’re not. So even if he and Kaoru fight and get separated, he sees their strings and his 6 others and knows they’re going to be okay.

Kaoru feels the physicality of his soulmates’ strongest feelings. so when Tamaki is lonely, he feels the lump in his throat. When Hikaru is furious, he feels the blood rushing. when honey is happy, he feels the bubble in his chest. He carries the physical toll of their emotional burdens for a long time, and eventually is healed by reciprocity and healthy support when they come together.

Tamaki has the words his soulmates say when he falls in love with them on him. Because love is his language and his love language is language.

Kyouya was going to have timers, but then i thought of something better. Kyouya has his net worth at the time that he meets them instead. because he’s always trying to measure his worth and accumulate wealth and that in itself is a timer, but the real treasure is the friends he makes along the way. and because they transform him into a better person, someone more able to meet his own goals.

Kyouya makes a different decision, and does not end up threatening someone he cares about.

Kyouya-centric for his birthday!! Episode 8 fixit fic, no ships but also im clearly in love with all three of them so :) also on ao3!

Haruhi bursts into his room and goes straight for the bathroom, never even seeing him. Heaving noises ensue from within. He winces. Too much crab, then. He lays the towel down, grabbing his glasses so he can stand, but-

Should he go check on her?

For the hundredth time, the waves crash against that jagged rock and Haruhi plunges silent into dark water. He blinks it away.

Instead, he sits, toweling his hair, and wonders at her. Will she be awkward once she realizes he’s just finished showering? Hmm. Probably not. Oblivious or indifferent, Kyouya can never tell which, but Haruhi never seems flustered by that kind of thing.

That thought should be intriguing, but today there's only a churning in his gut.

“All done?” Kyouya asks, once his bathroom door opens again. He doesn't look up.

“I’m sorry for intruding into the room of a stranger-"

“How rude. It’s me.”

"Kyouya-senpai? Oh. I’m sorry, I seem to have gotten everyone worried about me.”

He refuses to let it play again. Yet in crashes the sea, the fall, the silence of that terror. He just can't shake it.

And so, the Shadow King must act.

Kyouya glances past her to the lightswitch and draws up the words he needs.

“I wasn’t particularly worried.” He stands, then drinks out of his water bottle. Cool, casual. That’s the key to this ruse.

He lays out the bait, recounting Hikaru and Kaoru’s scuffle with her attackers. Pinning his focus on his destination across the room, he spins some nonsense about bouquets and apologies to the girls. Kyouya doesn’t look at her once, even as he positions himself for the catch. In a way, it’s hosting. A careful dance made to look careless, subtly guiding her to the right outcome.

“I’ll pay for those flowers myself,” Haruhi promises, of course.

And his timing is precise. In the exact moment he lays out her six-figure mistake, he flips the lights off, and finally, Kyouya can turn to face her.

Something about the ruffles on her dress sends cold water splashing frantic up his insides. He takes another breath. He reaches down, drawing up the calculated cruelty he needs. He doesn’t like playing the bad guy, but he is best equipped for it. And someone has to.

“Why did you turn the lights off?”

She’s stepped in the snare, the cold teeth of the trap must snap shut around her now. Now, or she’ll never see the danger as it should be.

But his eyes catch on her face, blurry in the dark but watching, open, patient—and the teeth don’t move. He doesn’t move.

“Senpai?”

She fidgets, brushing a lock of hair behind her ear. Surely she senses the strangeness in the air.

“Senpai, you’re starting to worry me,” she starts cautiously.

Is he? Is he finally? He can hardly breathe, only he knows this isn’t enough. He grasps for his plan, the words that will make things right-

“Senpai, I’m sorry about the expense. Please don’t worry about it, I really will pay it off,” she tries, and he knows that she really means it. She gives him a look, gentler than a smile, something surreal and infuriatingly comforting in her very Haruhi way, and he chokes.

“Why didn’t you call for help, Haruhi?” he asks, relieved that his voice comes out so indifferent.

Haruhi sighs. “So you were worried.”

A Kyouya with the lights on would fill this space with words, flooding it with hurtful meaningless things. As a member of the host club, you are but an asset to me at best, commoner. Don’t presume your own importance. You are obligated to stay out of trouble until your debt is paid, at least.

There are yet other things he could have said in light, things that would have been kinder, truer, and yet just as deceptive. You scared Tamaki. You drove the twins to violence for you. Don't you see how they worry for you?

But they’re in the dark, and Haruhi’s not dumb, and his hand is already shown. Kyouya has an infinite capacity for unkindnesses––but for once, he’s willing to admit that he doesn’t want to go through with this plan.

“Why didn’t you?” he repeats.

She cocks her head, answering frankly. “It didn’t occur to me.”

And the cold inside him wails.

He clenches his jaw to keep from shouting at her, how completely unhelpful that would be. But still more iron leaches into his tone than intended.

“And just why didn’t it occur to you?”

Haruhi’s chin jerks, eyes sparking. Oh, no.

“Well, those guys weren’t listening, so I didn’t have time to worry about how my gender would impact things. I had to act.”

She’s not listening, and the water is growing more agitated. Careless. Disrespectful. She should be afraid, and he can make her fear him.

Stomach lurching, he holds that thought in place. No. He doesn’t want to hurt her. He doesn’t want her to fear him.

This isn’t about Kyouya. It’s about Haruhi, and her safety.

How can he make her understand? How can he understand?

“I don’t disagree that something had to be done,” he starts. “Those girls were in real, immediate danger, and your intervention allowed Kurakano-kun to get the rest of the club to help. And Tamaki was being unreasonable by making the issue about your gender.”

Even this much is exhausting, so he sits down on the floor.

When she follows suit, her shoulders have settled a little from their taut hunch. Progress. He searches the dark and blurry bedroom for the next right words. But Haruhi finds them first.

“I know that rushing in to fight those guys was reckless,” she murmurs. “But the girls were scared. If I didn’t act, right away, they were going to be hurt.”

Kyouya pauses. She won’t like his next question. But he holds her gaze, intending to understand.

“Had you considered that you could get hurt, by intervening?”

Haruhi frowns. “After I hit the one, I knew they would focus on me. That was sort of the point, to get him to let go of Momoka-chan. But…” Her tone shifts into something more contemplative now. “I suppose I didn’t guard myself well, but how were my actions any different from Tamaki-senpai’s? He dove straight off the cliff to get to me, wasn’t that just as dangerous?”

She does have a point there. However good a swimmer he is, Tamaki had dived off the cliff without even looking. And yet...

True, Tamaki rushes into many reckless things to help others, but it’s never quite filled Kyouya with the same cold dread as Haruhi’s tumble off the cliff. And Tamaki has taken many a tumble. Kyouya would know, after all.

Ah.

“Haruhi, if you were robbed in a foreign country and you didn’t speak the language and you had nothing on you but your cellphone and 1000 yen, what would you do?”

She startles. “Huh? I would… search for the embassy, I guess?”

“And if you had no idea where the embassy was?”

“I would... try to find a map?”

Hmm.

“And if you got locked out of your home at 3 AM in the morning?”

“Senpai, what is this about?” Her confusion has shifted into mild irritation.

“Humor me,” he says, unsmiling.

She throws her hands up in resignation. “I would… wait until my dad got home.”

“And if he was on a business trip? Or if it was storming?”

“I would break in somehow.”

“And if someone at school was stealing your books and writing slurs on your desk?”

Rolling her eyes, she sighs out, “I would let the teacher know I needed new books, and clean off my desk before school. Senpai, this isn’t very funny.”

There’s a knock at his door. “Kyouya?” And it opens. “Do you have any lotion? This sunburn is worse than I-”

Tamaki freezes in the doorway. Kyouya can’t see the look on his face, but he hardly needs to, with the perfect replica hissing steam in his mind. He has approximately three seconds to derail this explosion. Luckily, he has just the thing to reroute the wildly careening train that is Tamaki’s mind.

“What are you-”

“Tamaki, after you got scammed and you were stranded on your own in Taiwan, what did you do?”

Tamaki blinks, recalibrating.

“Uh, I think I went to the embassy?”

“And how did you get to the embassy?”

“Hmm... Oh! I called you to ask for directions.” Walking over, he drops down to sit with them. His eyebrows are pinched––he wants to ask why, but still he lets Kyouya lead on.

“Yes. In the middle of an investor meeting,” he adds to a perplexed Haruhi. “And what about that time when you tried to climb from your window to the roof and fell out of your bedroom, when you were too embarrassed to call for a maid to come unlock your own house at 3 AM?”

“I… called you and stayed over at your place.”

Haruhi makes a face at that, which is fair. Nonetheless.

This last one is a little more delicate. He softens his voice, and inclines his head toward Haruhi by way of explanation. “And when you were bullied by our xenophobic peers in middle school?”

“Ah,” Tamaki says, realization smoothing his brow. “I told you about it. And you blackmailed them within an inch of their lives, of course.” He grins at the memory, at Kyouya. It’s easy to smirk back, warm and wicked in equal measure. That plan he has no regrets about.

Haruhi looks back and forth between them. He knows she’s still turning it over in her own mind. She is certainly smart enough to get it herself. But Kyouya decides anyway to take a page out of her book and be blunt, lest a mistranslation lead to regret later.

“The difference,” he explains, “is that whenever Tamaki is in trouble, he calls.”

They sit in silence for a while, Haruhi with her face downturned, Kyouya watching, patient. Considering both of them with his own discerning gaze, Tamaki settles, too.

“I’m just not like that, though,” Haruhi concludes, at last. Her voice is a touch wistful.

Tamaki is very, very gentle with his next words, Kyouya notices. “You grew up pretty lonely, didn’t you, Haruhi? You had to deal with a lot on your own.”

She shrugs, though all three know it’s true. And then all at once, they’re thinking of mothers and childhoods lost, and the melancholy sets in heavily over them.

“You know, Kyouya grew up much the same,” he says.

Haruhi turns to look at a bewildered Kyouya, who pushes up his glasses on reflex. But Tamaki smiles, continuing.

“Yes, he’s someone I can always depend on. But he’s not very good at asking for help, either.”

Kyouya glowers at the sheer audacity, only to startle as they both look at him with eyes far too affectionate. He shifts in place and looks down instead.

“But he has the whole Host Club looking out for him. So that even though sometimes, he doesn’t ask out loud, we can see it. And we’ll help.”

Here’s a pause. Tamaki swallows, leans forward, and bows.

“Haruhi, I’m sorry I yelled. I was angry because I was scared. That was my own fault, and you have every right to be upset.”

She rocks a little in her seat. “I’m sorry, as well. I don’t want to worry you guys.”

An absurd feeling grows in Kyouya’s chest. Half mirth, half despair.

Because he realizes: he doesn’t want her to be sorry at all anymore. She shouldn’t have to be sorry, she did nothing wrong . She acted to help, because it was more important to her than any consequence.

And now it’s clear: Haruhi has somehow become someone he truly cares about. Like Tamaki. Haruhi is something precious. Completely an agent of her own, and so trusting, and so kind. She’s earnest. She’s inherently good. He just wants her to be safe.

And he will never have any control over that.

The hysteria swells, threatening the structural integrity of his ribcage. All of the understanding he’s earned still won’t stop the fear that’s been crashing through him this whole night. He chokes down the laughter bubbling up and in his sheer desperation, looks at Tamaki.

It takes only one moment for Tamaki to read Kyouya’s distress, and in the next, he’s grabbing his hand, squeezing tight. And then he extends one to Haruhi.

“Haruhi, you don’t ever have to face things alone again. Will you let us be there for you?”

Kyouya has no control over how hard he squeezes Tamaki’s hand as they wait. He watches Haruhi’s own hands curl on her lap.

"I won’t be very good at it.”

"We aren’t either,” he says. She huffs. “It’s about the trying. Together .”

When she looks up, he's ready. Her eyes are searching, so he makes sure his own gaze is steadfast. He almost missed ever having this opportunity, he's fully aware. He won't let her down again.

“Okay,” she whispers. And takes Tamaki’s hand.

Relief blooms tangibly in the air. Haruhi’s eyes crinkle at Tamaki's relieved laugh. She opens her mouth to say something else, and-

Thunder shatters the room. Haruhi squeaks, yanking on his hand and hunching.

“Haruhi?” Tamaki leans forward, but-

Lightning strikes again, closer this time, and Kyouya feels the thunder slam into his eardrums. Haruhi yelps, trembling violently. She looks around the room, spots his dresser, and stands.

“Sorry! I- I uh- have to go now!”

“Don’t hide in the dresser,” Kyouya says, then feels foolish. Where had that thought come from? Why would she-?

But then she actually starts climbing into his dresser, and he and Tamaki have to hold the doors open.

“What- why would-? Haruhi, are you afraid of thunder?”

“It’s fine, I’ll be fine, this is how I always get through it,” she stammers, curling up inside.

“Not anymore,” says Tamaki, fiercely, and pulls her out into a hug.

“We have an American-style basement. It should be soundproof there, and there won’t be any flashing. Let’s head down now,” Kyouya decides. She’s trembling, clutching hard at Tamaki.

“I can’t- I’m not going to make it.”

“Close your eyes and cover your ears. We’ll get you there safe,” promises the Host Club prince, holding her even tighter.

“Okay,” she whispers.

Somehow they make it, the three of them hobbling to the basement. And somehow, the others find them, and they play games and music until they're almost all asleep on the various couches.

Kyouya’s turned off the lights and is just throwing a blanket over the twins when he hears her.

He’d thought she was asleep when he’d passed to drape a blanket over her on her own couch. Maybe she’s sleep talking, or maybe she woke up again. Either way, he stills, hoping she won’t spot him.

“You guys are even nicer than I thought,” she murmurs to the dark room. “Thank you, Kyouya-senpai.”

Despite himself, he smiles.

N - Name three things you wish you saw more or in your main fandom (or a fandom of choice).

my main fandom is ouran rn as we know. hmmmm ok so the things coming up are mostly things i don’t get to see a lot of bc of my corner of the fandom but im jsut going to say them anyway.

1) harurenge. this is easy, we been knew. i am obsessed with them rn and unfortunately there is not a lot of content for them (which makes perfect sense given fandom demographics and the actual cast demographics and bla bla bla) and i would Love more harurenge content. i’m going to cheat and include this here too: i would love to see more sympathetic/nuanced depictions of renge in general? i understand lots of people find her annoying but i also like to think she has capacity to grow and Does Grow and i also just want to see more of her.

2) this might sound a little strange bc it’s kind of very incredibly specific but??? i want to us to talk more about the mechanics of haruhi grieving her mom and recovering from that. i know we already see a lot about haruhi’s over-responsibility in the show, as well as her aspiring to be like her mom, and her missing her mom, and her not being used to relying on people because her parents are kind of absent. but i feel like we could dig into that a little more. one of the reasons haruhi in wonderland is so dear to me is because its one of the few times the show slows down and says hey, this is what it means that haruhi is actually growing to love and feel comfortable loving the host club.

in the aftermath of love me braver i was talking to my friend and basically i just had a lot of thoughts about haruhi’s character maybe has been more subtly shaped by this tragic event in her life, and i was going to dump that here but maybe i’ll make a separate post bc its kinda... long. but i would like to as a fandom talk about that more explicitly. give haruhi’s emotions more screentime, they get brushed over a lot bc of host favoritism and bc her character on the surface seems pretty steady and cool but there’s a deep wound behind that and while she’s mostly well-adjusted i wanna explore it more.

3) more female characters in general. i’m actually planning a little miniseries about some of the host club’s guests. i think there are a lot of reasons one might go to a host club and the potential friendships and dynamics there could be really cool. also just. the host club is canonically For Girls we should see more girls lol. gimme more info about their regulars.

rereading all these it is very clear that i am in a Women mood. good for me. ouran fandom needs more women. tbf if i had a fourth one i would say more hikaru&tamaki bro time. hikaru likes tamaki so much, guys. like kaoru does too but kaoru is aware of it and able to deal with it mostly. hikaru is a disaster and tamaki loves him dearly.

P - Invent a random AU for any fandom (we always need more ideas).

mwahahahahaha ok so here’s the thing i am currently at 34 ouran aus in my doc (i will NOT be writing them all but anyway) so i’m just going to talk about one of them. zombie apocalypse au with a twist that im not going to tell you guys because i actually intend to write this one.

renge and kyoya are out on a Parent Mandated Date (they are not interested in each other they just are there for appearances) when the world ends. zombies everywhere. they escape the restaurant and find themselves in the midst of a zombie infestation. through renge’s extensive knowledge of video games and kyoya’s extensive knowledge of ootori emergency response protocols, they determine they have to make it to the ootori stronghold. together, they fight their way to safety, hoping desperately that their friends are safe there too.

me n my 98569345 ouran AUs

so on november 9th i started a doc to keep track of a bunch of ouran AUs ive been thinking about and i swear the number of aus has tripled since but anyway here’s a list because i doubt i’ll write them all but i have full outlines for all of them so i do kind of... want to. names are based off what i called them in my google doc. *** are the ones i have written 40% of already lol

AUs:

1. Dimension Hopper: For reasons unknown, Tamaki Suoh gets transported to an alternate dimension where he didn’t come to Japan when he turned 14. The people who were once his friends have no memory of nor patience for him anymore, and it’s up to him to bring the Host Club back together, and figure out why he was transported here in the first place. Endgame tamakyo.

2. ***Episode 8 fixit***: A series of endings and turning points that would have made me less freaked out about the disaster that is Episode 8. Read it and/or rant at “Haruhi Deserves Better, Hosts!” on ao3. Very much ongoing. Will stop when I can sleep at night again. No ships because my feelings about this episode are complicated enough.

3. Ghost AU: Haruhi is a normal girl who suddenly gains the ability to see ghosts, because her life is a nightmare. She meets the six infamous ghosts of Ouran Academy, each bound to this world by things out of their control.

4. ***Cinder-Renge***: Renge’s dad, who has raised her as a single parent for 15 whole years, suddenly remarries. It... doesn’t go so well for Renge. Luckily, the Host Club is there for their manager. Cinderella!AU, endgame harurenge!!!

5. Hanahaki disease au: Hanahaki disease but if it wasn’t a deadly condition, just a ridiculous, irresponsible, humiliatingly painful disease for one Kyouya Ootori. At first everyone assumes it’s haruhi he likes because literally everyone else in the host club has caught flowers for haruhi so they’re just waiting for kyouya to confess and get over it. Except that of course, they’re not actually for Haruhi, and although the flowers won’t kill him Kyouya would die before admitting his feelings for Tamaki Suoh.

6. Shameless Kyouya OC Girlfriend: The twins have a cousin who programs. Kyouya, looking to expand the host club’s capacities, hires her. Except she’s super sensitive, and he’s kind of a dick. It’s a long road to being friends, a longer road to becoming real, maskless friends, and then a surprisingly short tumble into love.

7. ***Soulmates of Different Flavors***: In a world where each soulmate bond has a different sign of soul-binding, some people feel their soulmates’ pain, others have the day of their meeting scrawled across their wrist. The Host Club is stuck managing seven different soulbonds, one for each of their soulmates. Found family-centric. Read more about the soulmate mechanics on this post!

8. ***Kyouya is stressed au***: Can we even call this an AU? Based off the fact that mental health and physical health are very much intertwined, and Kyouya Ootori spends too much time working on the computer. The Host Club bands together to help him relax and figure his stuff out, and Kyouya learns to let down his walls and practice self-compassion. Tamakyo. I do love a good emotionally vulnerable shoulder massage, after all.

9. Spy/Kidnap AU: Someone’s stolen Kyouya’s black book and is trying to kidnap him. Knowing they’ll probably go for the Host Club next, he kidnaps the host club to keep them safe. Together, they fight to keep each other safe and get to the bottom of the mystery. Involves spy tropes, but in lame ways because they’re a bunch of dorks. Also, obligatory “and there was only one bed” scene but there are seven people so it genuinely is a problem. Endgame tamakyo and mori/haruhi

10. Things the Twins Made Fun of About Tamakyo: listen I just need more mutual pining while everyone else in the host club suffers. Anyway, the host club does a cosplay––where they all act as each other. Naturally, the twins claim the roles of Tamaki and Kyouya, and drama ensues.

11. ***LGBTeen Solidarity***: So in high school being in love with girls was scary. And talking to fellow LGBT kids made me feel okay. So with that in mind, this is a story about how Haruhi and Renge are working out their relationship at the same time as Tamaki and Kyouya are angsting about how they can never be together... except that the more all 8 host club kids support each other, the less scary and more possible it seems.

12. Self soothing fic: Haruhi and Hikaru are having boundary issues. Haruhi is not very good at asking for help but she is good at reading people and solving their problems, so she goes to someone who is equally bad at asking for help but good at solving people’s problems. Kyouya and Haruhi talk it out so that Haruhi can work things out. I probably won’t post this bc Reasons but it exists.

13. Mr. Brightside/Satisfied: Tamaki isn’t making his move to ask Haruhi out, and Kyouya is legitimately losing it having to wait, and Haruhi is growing anxious and frustrated about it. In a truly terrible idea, Kyouya offers to fake-date Haruhi (who he has fallen in love with), so that Tamaki (who he has also fallen in love with) will finally get jealous enough to admit his feelings. In a completely out of the blue, totally unforeseen twist, the plan works too well and they all fall in love with each other like nerds. mostly a crackfic bc i love them but they’re all so dumb...
