Steve walks into his house—HIS house, he would emphasize—to find his two favorite people wrestling on his couch.
For a second, the bottom drops out of his stomach. It's knee-jerk, even though he knows better. But they are very wrapped around each other, twisting and writhing, and it's pretty easy to get the wrong idea. Until he looks closer and realizes the wrestling is a lot more... violent, than sexy.
He watches, shocked into silence and stillness, as Eddie chomps down on Robin's upper arm. Robin screeches and yanks Eddie's hair. Steve feels un-easy in a different way now, like maybe this is devolving into an actual physical altercation instead of some friendly tussling. He winces when Robin gives Eddie a rather vicious purple nurple.
"FUCK, I give, I give," Eddie screams, limbs releasing her to curl protectively around himself.
Robin bounces up cackling, rumpled and sweaty. Her victory grin is vicious when she turns to Steve.
"Hear that Harrington? Your ass is mine tonight!"
Steve stares at her in fear. "What?"
"I get cuddle privileges tonight," she declares, still a little breathless. "And Eddie gets to sleep on the couch."
Behind her, Eddie looms before he jumps on her back, dragging her back down with a war cry. Steve watches them for a moment as the curse at each other for cheating, before going upstairs and locking himself in his room.

See, like, we've got rock star Eddie, right? And he's taking his dog (a shelter rescue of indeterminate breed; he's a whole mess of patches and spots of color and Eddie loves him) to the vet, dressed down in a hoodie and jeans and a beanie, hoping no one will recognize him. And he's in line at the counter behind possibly the prettiest man he's ever seen
A pretty man who seems to be in distress
He's got a cat carrier next to him, and the cat inside is yowling up a storm, performing a whole opera for the waiting room, and Pretty Guy is running a hand through his hair and pulling, and then he asks, "How long will he be okay without it?"
And Eddie's heart sinks a little, feeling for the guy. It wasn't all that long ago that he was scrimping and saving every cent for the things he needed - and vet bills are expensive. The tech behind the counter says something to the guy that Eddie misses, but it only seems to distress him further.
"Can you hold it for me? Just for a while, until I can see if I can get the money for it?"
Whatever the tech is about to say is lost, because Eddie is stepping forward and placing his credit card on the counter. "I've got it," he says.
Pretty Guy glares at him, which - fair. There's a certain amount of pride involved in being able to afford your own shit. Eddie gets that.
"You don't need to do that," the guy says
Eddie nods. "I don't. But I can, and I want to."
The guy huffs. "You don't even know how expensive this medication is."
"I promise, whatever it is, I got it. Think of it like paying it forward," Eddie says. "Besides, maybe I'm not doing it for you, I'm doing it for..." he trails off and gestures to the carrier, where the cat is still hollering. He can see that it's a Siamese now, all blue eyes and vocal as hell.
"Bruce," the guy says, and then he waffles for a moment, weighing his pride against how much he wants to take care of his cat, and it seems like the latter wins out. "I'm going to find a way to pay you back," he insists, stepping to the side so Eddie can reach the card reader.
"You don't have to," Eddie says.
"No, I'm gonna," the guy shoots back, immovable in his certainty, so Eddie only shrugs.
He pays for his own bill while the guy gets Bruce's medication, and they walk out front together. "Give me your phone so I can give you my number," the guy says as soon as they're out. "So I can pay you back."
And Eddie doesn't even think about it--doesn't think about whether this guy might be a rabid fan using this as a ploy to get Eddie's number, doesn't think about whether he's going to sell it or share it around--he just hands his phone over. When he gets it back, he has a new contact saved on the screen. Steve Harrington.
"I don't mean to sound ungrateful, just... thanks for that," Steve says.
"Think nothing of it, good sir," Eddie replies with a little bow, because he's an overblown dork at his core, no matter how famous he might be.
Steve doesn't seem to mind, anyway. And if they text more than is strictly necessary while Steve is working out how to pay Eddie back, and if Eddie says maybe Steve's company would be a good start, and if they end up going to dinner together, and if they only carry on from there - well. Eddie considers it the universe granting him a boon for his good deed. Even if he does eventually have to deal with Bruce's midnight yowling when he spends the night with Steve anytime he's in town.

steve having a cat that refuses to be touched by anyone but him (it tolerates robin by extension ofc bc it has accepted the reality that they’re a package deal), and eddie gets warned by the entire party that steve’s cat hates people who aren’t steve or robin. eddie’s fully prepared to get scratched the fuck up, but the cat’s almost as friendly with him as it is with steve. huh. weird.
meanwhile, steve’s poor cat is trying to figure out a way to get its owner to stop being so sad all the time, and when one of the strange people he spends time with makes steve smile, the cat is determined to keep him around at all costs.

My latest crochet project, Eddie Munson, is done.
Tumblr media
He's going to hang out with Steve and Robin and sometimes steal Steve's hat. More pictures below the cut, including me bothering my cat, Spot.

(I know it looks like she stole the hat from him, but that is a lie. This after me trying to get her to stay still enough to wear it. I failed. She stole it then.)

🐈‍⬛ Trick or Treat 🐈‍⬛
Little Steddie + Stobin meet cute; Eddie and Robin decide they must take Steve trick-or-treating, and they absolutely must make him their friend (a really special friend in Eddie's case) - fluffy! (5.5 k words)
This was all inspired by this tweet. It was so heartbreaking and upsetting I just had to fix it :)
🎃👻🎃👻🎃👻🎃👻🎃👻🎃👻🎃👻🎃👻🎃
Steve hasn’t celebrated Halloween since he was five. Not properly, anyway. Hasn't dressed up, or gone trick or treating even once since then. And he’s ten now, almost eleven.
He doesn’t want to admit it, but he misses going trick or treating. His mummy used to take him, until she stopped being home as much, and his babysitters could never be bothered.
He used to love dressing up, it was his favorite part. Liked to talk to the other kids in the street and play spooky games. But he’ll probably never do that again.
It’s probably stupid anyway. Steve’s double digits now, and his dad says that makes him a man, and men aren’t supposed to get sad about stupid things like Halloween.
Besides, his mum says candy’s bad for him. It will make his teeth fall out and his tummy fat, and his mum really hates that stuff.
Steve’s grown up knowing to always believe her, but he sees kids at school eating candy all the time, and they still have all their teeth and aren’t fat. Even his teacher eats candy, and offers a bowl of it around every holiday.
But Steve never eats it. His mom will be upset with him if she finds out.
But Steve’s a big boy, he can handle himself now. He’s got a bowl of sweets sitting by the door, eyeing him off and he’s trying his best not to eat one, because it’s for the trick or treaters.
The little kids, the ones his age, the older ones, and even some parents.
Steve pretends he’s not disappointed when they show off their awesome costumes that their moms made for them. He pretends he’s fine, he’s becoming a man, he shouldn’t care about kid things like Halloween.
He gets up when there’s another knock on the door, what feels like the millionth one of the night, and finds three people waiting there all dressed in cool costumes.
There’s a girl with freckles, short brown hair, and she’s done it all messy, dressed up like a scarecrow with a glowing lightbulb on the top of her head. She looks awesome, even has makeup on her face and real pieces of straw sticking out in random places.
There’s a boy beside her, with big brown eyes sweet like the chocolate Steve’s giving out, with long hair like a mane with golden shimmers of tinsel through it. He’s dressed like a lion, a showy badge on his chest, and he roared when Steve opened the door.
Behind them is an adult, probably their dad or something, dressed in grey with silver all over him, a funnel wrapped in foil on his head, a big red heart stitched into his shirt, and he’s holding a lead that’s got a little black cat on the end of it, with bows around its collar.
They’re dressed as The Wizard Of Oz, Steve thinks, and they look awesome. Steve wishes he had friends or family to go trick or treating with. All he’s got is Mrs. Delores, from across the street to look after him tonight, and she’s been asleep on the couch since five o’clock. She’d never take him anyway, says Halloween is for the energised, whatever that means.
“Cool costumes!” Steve says, puts on the brightest smile he can muster, just like his mom taught him. He grabs the candy bowl and holds it out for them to stuff their pillow cases with, “I love Wizard Of Oz— isn’t Toto a dog though?”
“Yeah, but Eddie only has a cat.” The girl answers as the boy digs through the bowl, clearly looking for something specific, “I think she’s crazy enough to be a dog though! Makes the funniest noises ever.”
“Yeah, she’s the funniest.” The lion boy giggles, waggles the Milky Way he found in the air, “She’s crazy too, I found her by the quarry one day, and Wayne said I can keep her.”
Steve thinks the tin man is Wayne, gives the man a smile and offers the candy bowl to him, which he politely declines.
“That’s cool, I’m not allowed pets. Especially strays, mom says they’re filthy.”
“Cthulhu is filthy, but she doesn’t stink more than Eddie!” The girl teases, already eating a caramel treat, chocolate all over her mouth.
Eddie punches her in the arm hard, “I don’t stink! Cthulhu is the best kitty in the world.” He bends down, picking the cat up under the arms and snuggling her, and she hisses and squeaks at him, “Aren’t you Cthulhu? You’re the best kitty cat in the world.”
Cthulhu meows and puts her paw on Eddie’s face, and Steve laughs. He’s always wanted a pet, loves them so much. He Loves all animals.
“Can I pet her?”
Eddie looks up at him from his snuggle with Cthulhu and arches his eyebrow, “Perhaps.”
“Oh, lord.” The man mutters to himself behind them, and it seems like maybe Steve shouldn’t have asked.
“Eddie’s very protective of Cthulhu because she’s a scared cat. She was really sick when we found her! So small you could see her ribs, it was so sad!” The girl informs him, very eager to teach, “She’s just a poor little kitty, and only loves me and Eddie and Wayne and no one else.”
“It’s true, she bites people you know? If they get too close.” Eddie says ominously, holding onto Cthulhu like she’s a precious treasure that Steve is trying to steal, “One time Nash from across the trailer park tried to feed her tuna and she bit a chunk out of his hand! It was so funny, there was blood everywhere. He screamed so loud, the stupid fuck-“
“Language.” The man said, glaring at Eddie.
“Uh, I mean, the stupid wimp.”
“It’s true, did you know? The girl nodded as she spoke, nodded so much Steve thought her head would fall off, “We hate Nash, he’s so mean.”
“I would maybe let you pet her, if she likes you, which she probably won’t because she doesn’t like anyone except for us.” Eddie said, scratching Cthulhu behind the ear to make her purr, giving her little kisses to make her smile, “But, you must also pass the test.”
“What test?” Steve asked, curious now. He’d really like to pet Cthulhu, if she’d let him.
“First, you have to swear to never, ever be mean to an animal ever.” The girl said.
Then dramatically, Eddie added in, “Second, you have to swear allegiance to Robin and I forever and ever, which also means you swear allegiance to all underdogs by proxy-“
“I don’t know what any of that means.” Steve mutters, ashamed of himself. He’s been doing really bad at school lately, he knows he’s dumb, his dad tells him all the time.
“Ed, remember not everyone reads Tolkien by the time they’re eight.”
“Right.” Eddie nods, smiles up at Steve, “Uh, it means you have to swear to at least be nice to us always, like, friendly! No bullying us or being rude or anything. And also the same goes for every nerd or weird kid.”
“Yeah, you can’t be mean to weird kids ever.”
“Are you weird kids?” Steve asked, looking them over. He doesn’t think they’re weird, he thinks they’re cool, they have the coolest costumes he’s seen all night, they put a lot of effort into them.
“The weirdest ever, actually.” Eddie states, nodding like he’s proud of it.
Robin, the girl, nods in agreement.
“Okay.” Steve shrugs, “I don’t care if people are weird, you have cool costumes.”
“That’s really nice, thanks!” Robin says, but Eddie gives him a funny look.
“Where’s your costume? And why aren’t you trick or treating? Are you sick or something?”
“Uhm, I just don’t want to.” Steve lies, he feels stupid because he wants to cry.
“Oh, okay, weird.” Eddie says and stands again, keeps Cthulhu in his arms and Robin leans over to pet her too, “The third rule is that you have to give us an extra candy bar-“
“That’s not one of the rules?” Robin intervenes, clearly confused by this, which Steve finds funny.
“Shh!” Eddie hisses, “Come on, it’s Halloween, it’s a special extra holiday rule.”
“I don’t think that’s fair.”
“It’s just one extra candy bar. Besides, would you prefer stupid Jason come by and steal an extra one like he did at the last house?”
“No.” Robin admits and turns to Steve, “Okay, yeah, an extra candy bar.”
“And also, the last rule is-“
“You have to stand on one foot and hop on the spot and sing Soft Kitty!”
“Hey, I wanted to say that part.” Eddie groans at her.
“You always say that part.” Robin bickers back, and Eddie starts to sulk.
Steve wishes he had friends like that.
“Do you agree with the rules?” Robin asks, and Steve nods.
“Sure.” He says.
“Okay, fine.” Eddie said, snapping out of his hunch to grin at Steve again, “But don’t be offended if she doesn’t like you. She hates everyone. She was even scared of us for the first few days!”
“Yeah, it’s true.” Robin agrees, watching Eddie set Cthulhu down, taking the leash from the older man, “She’s such a poor little kitty. Eddie, show him the scars you have! I can’t or it will stuff up my costume.”
“Oh, yeah!” Eddie grins, shoving the sleeves up his arms to reveal an array of tiny bites and scratches, “Gnarly, huh?”
“I thought he had rabies! I was so scared, but it’s okay, we all got a rabies shot.”
“Yeah, I almost passed out, I hate needles.”
“It was really funny, the nurses had to give him three lollipops to stop him crying-“
“Hey! Don’t tell him that, he won’t think I’m cool.” Eddie punches her again. Robin punches him back.
“He probably already thinks you’re not cool, Eddie. Everyone thinks you’re not cool, and he’s rich.”
“Oh, yeah.” Eddie mutters, shrugs like he no longer cares, loosens Cthulhu’s lead a little, “Anyway, just don’t take it personally if she tries to kill you or anything, she especially doesn’t like mean people or rich people. She only likes freaks and weirdos I think, ‘cause we’re like her, you know? She’s a good cat like that. So yeah, just don’t like, get upset if she hates—“
They all stop and stare when Cthulhu wanders over the threshold to Steve’s house, looking up at him with her tail in the air as she goes. She walks right up to Steve, rubs her face against his shin and weaves between his legs, stretching out and laying on his fluffy slipperd feet.
Behind them, the older man snickers, and Eddie glares back at him.
He takes a few steps away to catch his breath as he laughs, muttering as he goes, “Spoke too soon, boy, what’d I tell ya?”
Eddie growls and looks back at Cthulhu like she’s betrayed him. Robin is just smiling, which is nice, she has a very happy smile.
“I think she likes him, Eddie.” Robin says, and Eddie growls again.
“So, can I pet her?” Steve asks.
“You have to do the ritual.” Eddie says with sass, like it’s a challenge, like Steve won’t do it, “Swear kindness to all animals.”
“Obviously, I love animals.” Steve said with a frown.
“That one’s easy, you’d be a total psycho if you didn’t!”
“Okay, swear you’ll never be mean to an outcast or a weirdo.” Robin said.
“Okay— but what about if a weirdo is mean to me first? Can I be mean back?” He asked, because the rules seemed a little biassed.
“Eh, makes sense.” Robin nodded, “What do you think, Eddie?”
“I agree. Not like a weirdo would ever be mean to a rich kid.” He said, shrugging.
Steve arched his eyebrow at the boy, put his hands on his hips unimpressed, “I swear it, idiot.”
“Hey, you can’t—“
“You said I can, if you’re mean first.”
“I’m not— Wayne! Stop laughing at me!” Eddie huffed back at the man, facing Steve again, he said, “I’m not mean to you.”
“You are. You said Cthulhu would probably hate me cause I’m rich. I’m not even rich, I just live here.”
Beside him, Robin nodded, “You are kinda mean sometimes, Eddie.”
Eddie looked like a fish out of water. The old man was still laughing, hunched over from it now.
“We can call it even, if you’re nice to me from now on.” Steve states, holding out his hand in an offer.
Eddie looks at his hand and considers it, looks back at Steve and sighs, “I’m sorry, okay, you're right. We can call it even.”
Steve smiles and solidifies the shake, wondering why his stomach goes all fluttery.
“Three!” Robin interrupts, literally leaning over to get between them, “Extra candy bar.”
Steve smiles and lets them both have at it again, holding it steady as they aggressively rifle through the bowl in hunt of their desired treasure. Robin eats half of hers again when she gets it, drops the other half in her pillow case.
“And the dance!” Eddie chimes in, carefully placing his sweet in the sack, “For a whole minute.”
“How am I supposed to hop on one foot when Cthulhu is laying on my slippers?”
“Uh, that’s a good point, Eddie. You know Cthulhu hates being disturbed.” Robin whispers, like she’s scared she’ll suddenly wake the sleeping kitty.
Eddie pouts, looking down at the animal to come up with an answer. It takes him a while. Steve comes up with one first.
He grabs the bowl of sweets again and dumps half in Robin's sack, and the other half in Eddie’s. A trade, extra candy so he doesn’t have to do the dance.
“Awesome!” Robin grins, beaming down at her loot.
“What about your leftovers?” Eddie asks, looking sadly at the big empty bowl, “You won’t have any leftovers! And you’re not trick or treating, so how would you get chocolate?”
“It’s okay, mom doesn’t really like when I eat chocolate. Says it will make my teeth fall out—“
“Ah! Is that true?” Robin asks, her mouth full of melted chocolate again. She looks back at the man in fear, “Wayne! Are my teeth gonna fall out?”
“No.” He says, stern and sharp, “My mama used to tell me the same thing. You’re supposed to have treats, you’re a kid.”
Oh, Steve thinks to himself, he’s a kid.
“Oh, thank goodness.” Robin huffs and keeps munching away.
“Here.” Eddie smiles, and he’s got a handful of candy bars taken from his pillow case, holding them out to Steve, “You deserve some chocolate too!”
Steve blushes and takes the sweets, can’t find the Strength to protest when he really, really wants it. He stashes them in his pockets and tells himself not to forget about them.
“Do you want some more?” Eddie asks, “I know how it feels to have no candy on Halloween, it sucks. I never got to trick-or-treat when I was little, my dad couldn’t be bothered and my mama was always sick.”
Steve frowns, looks at the boy and doesn’t even get another word in before Eddie’s reaching over and stuffing another handful of chocolate into Steve’s other pocket. He gives it a firm pat, stands up straight again, and smiles.
Steve doesn’t know what to do.
He thinks he’d like to be friends with these kids.
“Can I pet your cat now?” He asks, too scared to say anything else. His dad says he’s too much of a wimp these days, and needs to man up.
“Of course.” Eddie smiles, nods his head.
Steve crouches down, careful not to move his feet and disturb the kitty, and he strokes from her head down her back until she purrs. She purrs so much her whole body starts to vibrate, it makes the three of them laugh.
“She’s so cute, huh?” Robin asks, crouched down too to watch.
“She’s the best kitty cat ever.” Eddie agrees, reaching to scratch under her chin with a finger, and Cthulhu smiles and tries to bite his finger, “No silly! I’m not a Halloween candy.”
“She’s so soft.” Steve muses, can’t stop petting her, “She’s so cute.”
“Super cute.”
“The cutest!” Robin shouts, slaps a hand over her mouth when she realises how loud she was.
“I wish I had a cat.” Steve sighs.
“You can visit her sometimes, if you like?” Eddie asks, his cheeks all red for some reason, “Wayne doesn’t mind if I have friends at the trailer, and it would be mean to keep Cthulhu from her new best friend.”
“You mean it?” Steve asks, feels himself smiling so wide his cheeks get warm, “For real?”
“Yeah.” Eddie nods, gets very nervous when he says, “And… and maybe we could play, or something?”
Steve nods his head, he hasn’t had a friend to play with since Tommy decided they were too cool for make believe, “Yes please.”
“You probably won’t want to if you’re cool and not a weirdo.” Robin says, doesn’t even look up as she speaks, too busy petting Cthulhu, “Eddie likes weird games, he always makes me be the dragon he has to fight and slay.”
“I thought you liked being the dragon? You make such good dragon noises.”
“Of course I do.” Robin huffs, looking over at him, “But he might not like being a dragon.”
“Well he wouldn’t be the dragon, ‘cause you’re always the dragon.”
“We’ll, maybe he won’t want to be the knight either!”
“I’m always the knight.” Eddie huffed and turned to Steve, wearing a very determined glare, “What do you want to be when we play fantasy? You could be the horse, but that’s probably boring. Or I suppose you could be the princess I rescue, because Cthulhu is always the princess. You can’t be the evil troll because Wayne’s really good at being grumpy. Or you can be something new if you like?”
“I can be anything.” Steve shrugged, “I’ve never played fantasy before. It sounds fun.”
“It’s so fun!” Robin grinned, “Maybe you could be the prince and Eddie can rescue you too!”
“I’m really good at rescuing.” Eddie stated.
“Okay.” Steve smiled, “Whatever you guys want.” He says, because he’s excited enough they want him there at all, he would play the tree if they wanted.
“Cool.” Eddie grinned, totally delighted by this.
“Thanks for letting me pet your cat.” Steve said, knowing he shouldn’t keep them any longer. They have more trick-or-treating to get too, and the man taking them is probably bored. “I think your costumes are really cool and creative.”
“Thanks, we made them ourselves, Eddie’s really good at sewing and painting!” Robin grinned.
“Well, Wayne had to help with the sewing machine. And Robin did all the decorations.”
“That’s so cool.” Steve grinned, the words toppling out of his mouth before he could stop himself, “I wish I knew how to make costumes, my mom never makes me costumes, I miss trick-or-treating.”
“I thought you said you didn’t feel like it?” Robin asked, and Steve stared at her, caught red.
“Why doesn’t your mom make your costumes?” Eddie asked, looking so terribly sad about it, “Why don’t you go trick-or-treating? Is your mummy sick too?”
Embarrassed, Steve shook his head, eyes averted to the ground as he shamefully admitted, “My parents don’t really care about this stuff, they say it’s for kids, and it’s silly. They’re never home anyway.”
“But you are a kid.” Robin says, confused.
Steve feels that harshly for the second time tonight.
“I think your parents are stupid.” Eddie says flatly, and Steve thinks he’s awesome.
“Eddie!” The older man snaps from behind, “That’s not very nice now, come on.”
“But it’s true.” Eddie huffs, “Your parents sound like they suck. My dad sucked too. He’s in prison, you know, cause he sucks.”
“Eddie really doesn’t like his dad.” Robin said, still crouched down to pet Cthulhu, not looking up at them as she spoke.
Quietly, for the first time ever, Steve admitted something back, “I don’t like my dad either.”
Eddie smiled at him, held up his hand in this strange symbol, his pinky and pointer finger extended whilst the others were folded.
“What’s that?”
“Metal.” Eddie said, a cool smile as he nodded. And Steve had no idea what metal means, but he makes the symbol back and smiles, because Eddie seems to think it’s cool, so it must be.
“Cool.”
“Do you want to come trick or treating with us?” He asks, and Steve thinks yes, but holds himself back.
“Oh, yeah, please come!” Robin grins, up and jumping on the spot now.
“We don’t even have a Dorothy.” Eddie says, “We don’t even have the main character!”
“I told you to be Dorothy.” Robin tells him, “You have the perfect hair for it.”
“Yeah, but I wanted to wear my lion costume again. It saved more time! We had to spend all our time making your costume!”
Robin shrugged and looked back at Steve, “Do you wanna be Dorothy?”
“Isn’t she a girl?”
“So.” Eddie shrugged, “I think Toto’s a boy, and Cthulhu is pretending to be him— and Robins being a boy scarecrow. It’s just a costume.”
“But she wears a dress. I don’t have a dress.”
“You can be a boy Dorothy if you like?” Robin answers.
“Or, you can be a girl Dorothy in pants.” Eddie adds on, “And I’m really good at making costumes, I bet I can help you come up with something cool. And then you can walk Cthulhu all night if you like, ‘cause Toto is Dorothy’s pet!”
Steve does like the sound of going trick-or-treating with these guys. And he really likes the sound of hanging out with Cthulhu all night, she’s such a cute kitty, still sleeping on his slippers.
Steve worries his lip and looks at the old man past them, wondering if he’ll tell Steve to stay home for wanting to dress up like a girl.
“You’re welcome to join if you want, kid, I’ll just need to talk to whoever’s lookin’ after ya.”
Steve is sort of scared to wake Mrs. Deloris, she’s a real hag when she’s grumpy.
But, he’d like to go trick-or-treating even more. And this might be his only ever chance.
”I’d really like to.” Steve says, and the three of them seem happy with his answer.
Eddie dives down and grabs Cthulhu so Steve can move, which is a big mistake because she starts hissing and trying to scratch Eddie’s face, and he screams, the old man and Robin have to intervene.
Steve rushes over to Mrs. Delores to wake her with a fright, and he tells her his plans, doesn’t ask, and she gets up in a grump to go talk to the man at the door.
When Steve makes it back to them, Eddie’s got a bloody scratch on his cheek, but he doesn’t seem to mind it, he’s still holding Cthulhu as she naps in his arms, and he kisses her between the ears adoringly.
“I wouldn’t know how to make a Dorothy costume.” Steve says, and this seems to excite Eddie and Robin.
“Can we come in? We’ll help!” Eddie asks.
“And your house is so big.” Robin wonders, leaning forward to inspect the inside, “I’ve never been in a house this big before.”
“Me either.” Eddie muses, “Do you have a hot tub?”
Steve leads them inside, and up the stairs, “No, but I have a pool.”
“Cool!” Eddie grins.
“Do you have a cinema?”
“No.” Steve giggles, “Of course not.”
“Do you have two bathrooms?” Eddie asks.
Steve furrows his brow at the weird question, “Uh, yeah— or three if you count the extra toilet.”
“Woah!” The two say in unison, their eyes wandering around Steve’s house as they walk.
“That’s so cool.” Eddie says.
“I’ve always wanted two bathrooms. My dad gets pee all over the toilet seat, and me and mom hate it.” Robin adds, and Steve decides to laugh, because Eddie is.
He thought everyone had two bathrooms. He’s never shared one with his parents. That seems so strange. He’s not even allowed in his parents bathroom, they get so mad at him if he goes in there.
He leads the pair into his bedroom and they go right for his wardrobe, diving right in without asking. Not that Steve cares, he thinks they’re so nice, and he’s excited to have more friends.
They’re talking amongst themselves, chattering and chattering, agreeing and disagreeing.
“Would you wear a skirt?” Eddie turns around to ask.
“I don’t have a skirt.” Steve says back.
“That’s not what I asked.”
“I guess.” Steve shrugged, “But it’s too cold for a skirt! It’s windy outside.”
“He’s got a point.” Robin says, and Eddie nods.
“Will your dad be mad if we cut up one of his shirts?”
Steve’s eyes widened, he think his dad would definitely mind. But, he’s not home, won’t be for another week at least. Besides, he might not even notice, if Steve hides the evidence.
He shakes his head no.
“Does he have a blue button up?”
Steve nods, knows he does. He has like, a billion of them.
He races to go get one, finding one that’s got little blue and white checkers all over it, thinking it would be perfect for Dorothy. When he shows it to Eddie, he’s excited, says it’s perfect.
Robin hands Steve a white t-shirt and a pair of blue jeans and tells him to change into them whilst they work on the dress. Steve rushes to change in the bathroom, can’t wait, he’s so excited.
By the time he comes back out, the sleeves of his dads shirt have been cut off, and the collar removed to make straps instead, and Eddie’s making Steve put it on, and it’s long, like a dress. He’s cut one of the sleeves to make a belt, ties it around Steve’s waist with a bow, and Robin ties the other on his head.
He’s still got his slippers on, which they decide are perfect, because they’re fuzzy red Elmo slippers, just like Dorothy’s shoes. Steve hasn’t felt this cool in a long time, he likes how creative Eddie and Robin are.
He half expects to be told off when they get back down, yapping away to Cthulhu about the next houses they’re gonna hit, but the old man doesn’t mind that Steve’s in a dress.
In fact, he compliments him, “Cool costume, looks just like the movie, kid.” He says, waves them all out the door, “Come on, it’s getting late and I have to have you home by ten.”
“Quick!” Eddie says, putting Cthulhu down and letting Steve take her lead, “We’ve got so many more houses to get to.”
“Wait! Dorothy doesn’t- wait, what’s your name?” Robin asks, and Steve feels silly for not having introduced himself.
“Oh, it’s Steve.” He says, walking down the steps, Cthulhu right beside him.
“That’s cool, I’m Robin, and he’s Eddie.” Robin said, “We’re best friends, we take art class together.”
“Wow, you do art?” Steve asks, “I like colouring.”
“Colouring is cool.” Eddie smiled, five steps ahead of everyone else, “I like drawing best. I draw monsters mostly.”
“They’re so creepy.” Robin giggles, “It’s for his nerd game he likes. Watch out, he’ll probably make you try and play it. It’s so confusing.”
“It’s not confusing. It’s just roleplay! It’s called Dungeons and Dragons, and it’s the coolest game in the world.”
“Sounds fun.” Steve says, even though the dungeon part worries him.
“What were you gonna say before, Robin?” Eddie asked, “You seemed so worried.”
“Oh, uhm, I can’t- Steve doesn’t have a pillowcase!” She gasped, turning to Steve.
“Oh no.” He said, looking back at his house, already a block away now.
“It’s okay!” Eddie said, running back to them, “Steve can share mine, we’ll split all my candy down the middle since you missed so much. Come on, that house always has the best stuff.” He says, grabbing Steve by the wrist and pulling him along to run.
Steve lets him, giggling as the three of them run through the street up to the house. His skin tingles where Eddie holds it, which is strange, but he doesn’t mind. It’s sort of nice. Eddie is really nice.
“Come on.” He says, shoving Steve to the grand front door of the house they’re at, “You should do the honours, Steve, since you haven’t in ages! Come on, come on!”
Nervously, Steve lifts his hand and rings the doorbell. And when the woman answers the door, he grins, and shouts, “Trick-or-treat!” Louder than he should have.
The three get their fill of candy and head away to the next house, playing with Cthulhu as they go, comparing which chocolates are their favourites.
Eddie says his favourites are milky ways, Steve says they’re his favourites too, and Eddie’s cheeks go red again at the fact.
They manage to hit fifteen more houses before Steve has to go home, and Eddie’s pillow case is so full they decide to carry it together, so it’s not too heavy.
They sit on the floor by the open door to divvy it out, Robin sits beside them eating more of her candy. Mrs. Delores comes out to flirt with Wayne, who Steve learned is Eddie’s uncle that he lives with, and apparently a lot of old ladies flirt with him.
They split the chocolates clean down the middle, having an even amount in the bag. And Steve’s excited, because he’s got five milky ways, can’t wait to eat them. Eddie’s got six, at Steve’s insistence as payment for making his costume.
At the last minute, when they’re scooping their treats back into Eddie’s pillow case and the candy bowl by Steve’s door, he remembers the pocketed treats from before, and races away to get them. He quickly divvys them between him and Eddie, gives the extra one to Wayne as a thank you, and says goodbye to his new friends. Especially Cthulhu.
“Remember you have to come visit.” Eddie says sternly, watching Steve snuggle the cat, “Cthulhu will get depressed without you.”
“Promise.” Steve nods.
“Maybe you can come on Saturday! And maybe Tuesdays after five o'clock! And also Wednesdays after school, and Fridays too—“
“That’s when Robin comes over to my house. We hang out a lot.”
“We’re best friends.” Robin nods.
“That sounds like a good idea. Maybe I can come after school on Wednesday.”
“Okay!” They both shout in unison.
“Bye, Steve!” Robin shouts, beginning to hop down the steps, “See you around.”
“Come here, kitty kitty.” Eddie says, tries to grab Cthulhu but she doesn’t let him. Hisses at Eddie and snuggles against Steve. Eddie looks very betrayed again, “Cthulhu! I said come here.”
She just meowed.
Steve laughed, handed her back over to Eddie with a little fight and apologised, “Sorry, Cthulhu. We’ll have to cuddle another time.”
“She really loves group cuddles, you know.” Eddie blurts out, looks embarrassed again, “Just so you know.”
Steve smiles, thinking he might like a group cuddle with them some time, “Okay.” He’s got butterflies again.
“Okay.”
Eddie’s so nice.
“I’m gonna go now.” He mutters, “But you can come play whenever— not just when Robin’s there, okay?”
“Okay.” Steve smiled again. It’s all he can do, really.
“Nice to meet you, Steve.”
“Nice to meet you too, Eddie.”
Eddie blushes and ducks his head, waving as he turns away, “I think you look nice, by the way, in your costume. Blue looks really nice on you.”
Steve blushes too, “Thanks, Eddie.”
He doesn’t say anything else, just bounces away, catching up to his uncle who’s holding Robin's hand as they walk. Steve watches them walk away, stands silently at the door with a fuzzy feeling in his stomach.
Wayne scruffs Eddie’s head as they walk away, “Steve seems nice.” He says, sounds like he’s teasing.
Eddie hunches his shoulders up, glances back at Steve and looks away again immediately, grits out, “Shut up.”
“What’s going on?” Robin asks, leaning into Eddie’s space.
“Nothing!—“
“Eddie thinks Steve’s nice.”
Eddie groans, and Steve doesn’t understand why that’s such a big deal. Steve is nice, isn’t he?
Isn’t he?
“Ohh!” Robin muses, skips a few steps ahead and starts singing as the reach the street, “Eddie and Steve, sitting in the tree—“
“Shhh! He’s gonna hear you.”
“K. I. S. S. I. N. G—“
“I’m gonna kill you!” Eddie groaned, running straight for her.
Robin erupted in giggles, running away down the street, into the night.
Steve closes the door and looks down at his bowl of candy, can’t help himself, just wants one before bed. He goes to grab a Milky Way, and something catches his attention.
He’s supposed to have five. But there are— one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven in the bowl.
Eddie snuck Steve all of his, even though they’re his favourites.
Steve can’t wait to hang out with his new friends Robin and Eddie.
Especially Eddie.
Steve doesn’t think he’s gonna have a lonely Halloween ever again.

You only think this is bullshit if you never had a cat.
Reblog if cat hair bunnies are the main reason you vacuum.
Reblog if you ever took a fresh shirt out of its packaging and it already had your cat’s hair on it.
Reblog if pet hair remover rolls are a fixed point on your shopping list.
Reblog if you ever considered making cat hair felt hats because you actually have the material for it.
Reblog if you ever quit on an outfit seeing how much work it would be to de-fur it.
Or any of the 100000 other things that make cat hair rule your life.

Werewolf!Steve is a menace in the sense that whenever he gets wet from rain or swimming he locks eyes with Eddie who is just innocently standing there. Eddie can feel the targeted stare and barely has time to start running before Steve is bolting at him. Steve gets within distance and immediately shakes himself so all the water on his fur flies at Eddie.

Steddie Slice of life
A little sneaky Peaky of a new 5k Steddie slice of life fic I'll be posting on AO3 soon :)
Eddie was back a minute later, Tuna back in his arms as he crawled into bed. She settled in the divot between their legs, her head resting on Eddie’s thigh. He petted at her back looking up at Steve. “Can I bring tuna to the game?” He asked with a megawatt smile, there was mischief and determination behind his eyes that let Steve know he would be losing this battle.
“People will think we’re crazy,” Steve tried anyway despite knowing better.
“People already think I’m a woman until I turn around. What's a little more misdirection with a cat and a baby stroller?” Eddie grinned, waggling his brows at Steve, that big smile still on his face.
“You want to bring her in a baby stroller?” Steve asked in disbelief, he honestly shouldn’t be surprised though. Eddie was as chaotic as they come.
“It's the most safe and convenient way.” Eddie nodded seriously. “Plus little Miss deserves the princess treatment.”
Steve rolled his eyes at that but relented. “You spoil her too much but, fine. You have to find a baby stroller that isn’t hundreds of dollars and cat proof it though.” He pointed at Eddie sternly.
“You know, I’m the king of the thrift baby, I’ll make it happen.” Eddie assured with a cocky grin. Despite his eye rolls, Steve couldn’t deny it, considering he was laying on a mattress sitting in a brass bed frame Eddie found for them at the thrift store with two matching oak side tables to go with it.
“You have until next weekend, if it isn’t done she stays home.” Steve warned.
Eddie just smiled even wider, leaning in to give Steve a wet kiss. “Of course baby.” He began peppering kisses all over Steve’s face. “I love youuuu.” He sang.
“I love you too.” Steve finally cracked and dropped his grumpy facade. If it made Eddie happy he didn’t care. “Now go to bed.” He chuckled and pushed Eddie away when the kisses began to tickle

Characters transformed into animals (STWG Daily Prompt)
"So that's –"
"Steve."
"And he's a –"
"Cat," Robin nods in confirmation just as the cat – uh, Steve – meows.
He settles back on the plaid pillow and resumes thoroughly licking his paw. Robin steps forward, swishing her hand through the air.
"Hey – psst! Stop that. I'm not gonna be the one to clean up your hairballs."
Cat Steve hisses. And Eddie swears the cat frowns and purses his lips in that bitchy way Steve does when he has a mean retort on the tip of his tongue.
"Don't spook him," Eddie says as he pulls Robin back and they watch on as Steve begins to groom his luscious tail.
Steve pays them no mind, though. Instead, their feline friend stretches his hind legs and rolls onto his back, limp as he sinks into the pillow and yawns.
"So, is he just –"
"Now a cat version of Steve?" Eddie wonders aloud, watching as Steve snuffles around all sleepy on the pillow, "Most definitely."
Robin sighs, "I'd better go buy some cat food, then."

Eddie’s just trying to show off his new guitar picks on his TIkTok account while in the background, this conversation is happening:
Steve: Want some m&ms?
Robin, holding out her hand: When I was a kid, I would assign each of my family members a color of m&m and then eat them in order of who I liked the least to who I liked the most.
Steve: Who did you eat last?
Robin: My cat, Lucy. She was the brown one. I would swallow them whole so I wouldn’t hurt her chewing.
Steve: Makes sense
Steve: What color would I be?
Robin: Blue
Steve: *fist pumps*

Spies AU - Complete
Part 1 Part 15 AO3
13th December 2015
Kas was dead.
The ghost that haunted the nightmares of Creel’s enemies was dead.
The legend was dead.
The news was met with both disbelief and scorn throughout the underworld.
Kas the Bloodyhanded had not only been real and just as deadly as all the rumours had said, but he had also gone down burning the mansion of the most ruthless and influential criminal boss in modern memory, stabbing his master in the back in the process.
It sounded like something out of a novel.
He had killed his boss for his sweetheart, the rumours said.
It gained him a new title.
Kas, The Betrayer.
People made it a whole romantic thing.
That Kas had found out his next job was to assassinate his sweetheart and he just couldn't do it because he was so in love, he turned on his boss, making sure his sweetheart was safe before he went to Creel’s mansion, the two of them perishing amongst the flames.
If Kas had been legendary before he was borderline mythical now.
Steve wrinkled his nose.
It was all twisted up with a rose coloured filter over the top, sweeping orchestral music and dramatic declarations of love.
The truth of it was dirtier, bloodier, tinged with fear and panic. It was slow and agonising and heartbreaking.
Kas hadn’t turned his back on Creel the second he was given the order to kill his sweetheart.
He had broken into Steve’s apartment and pointed a gun at him and intended to kill him.
And Steve had looked him dead in the eye, knowing that Eddie could have easily done just that.
But Steve also knew, down into his soul, that Eddie wouldn’t hurt him.
Kas might have, but Eddie would never.
He never doubted for a second, even when Eddie did, even when Eddie had thought he could still kill him.
But when it came down to it, Eddie’s eyes had been shiny, his lip was trembling and his hand had been shaking.
He knew Creel was watching him and was listening to make sure he went through with it. Because he suspected that Eddie had gone soft. That this was a line he couldn’t cross.
And he was right, though he didn’t need to know that at the time.
Eddie had shot, but he’d moved the gun, the bullet tearing through the communicator over Steve’s ear, destroying it.
Steve’s vitals flatlined like they had back when he’d taken that baseball bat to the back of the head and his communicator self-destructed.
The echo of the gunshot through Steve’s apartment had no sooner faded than Eddie had collapsed in on himself.
Steve had crumpled to the floor right along with him, wrapping himself around him, unable to break through Eddie’s sobs about how he’d just condemned his people to painful deaths because Creel would find out, of course he’d find out, and he’d make their deaths agonising and he’d make Eddie watch and-
Steve had to kiss him to quieten him, try to calm him down so he could get a word in edgewise.
It was wet and messy and gross but it did the job.
He was finally able to tell Eddie they had his people in their sights, it would just take one phone call to make them safe.
“Call them!” Eddie had his fists curled into Steve’s top, his face was wet and blotchy and red and he stared at Steve, practically shaking him. “Call them, sweetheart, please! I can’t- I can’t lose them, I can’t…”
Eddie broke down again, so Steve just held him tighter. He pulled Eddie’s hair away from his face and tried to continue soothing him, rocking him back and forth. He took his phone out and dialled.
Eddie was still shaking in his arms when he told the kids to eliminate their targets and call him back once it was done.
He held him close and tried to comfort him, to make him feel better, but Eddie was still convinced everything was hopeless.
When Steve tried to get him up off the floor and take him into his safe room, keep him as secure and sheltered and away from Creel for as long as he could, Eddie had refused to move.
He couldn’t hide, he couldn’t run.
He had to go get Robin.
Creel would be keeping an extremely close and suspicious eye on him, just in case he had managed to do exactly what he had just done.
Betray him.
Steve felt the panic starting to kick in again at the reminder that Robin had just been fucking attacked in the office but Eddie told him with a thick voice and a shake in his arms, like he expected Steve to lash out at him, that they weren’t going to kill her.
Creel wanted her.
It was barely a half an hour later when the kids had called back to say Eddie’s people were safe, they’d managed to eliminate their targets with terrifying efficiency, Eddie collapsed all over again. But there were no tears this time, just hyperventilating relief.
He wasn’t sure he believed it at first, Steve could tell from the look on his face, he was both relieved and a little disbelieving. He’d spent so long under Creel’s thumb, thinking that this was all his life was ever going to be until he died.
It was a little difficult to swallow that he was nearly out.
But eventually Steve managed to assure him that it happened. Freedom was just on the horizon and Steve would do anything to make sure Eddie got there.
Surprisingly the most difficult person to take down had been Billy. Steve would have expected it to be Connie, but apparently Billy just refused to stay down. And he played dirty.
All the kids had to come in and help with that one.
But Max had told him she’d taken great joy in crushing his balls and his head under her baseball bat.
In that order.
The next few hours were a whirlwind of activity.
Eddie gave Steve as much information as he could about Creel’s contingency plans and in return, Steve told Eddie about the night he and Robin came out to each other, telling him to use that if he needed her to play along.
Steve had then called Hopper and got him up to speed, getting him to bring in his most trusted Agents to help knee-cap Creel before he could run. Then all that was left was to follow Eddie to the office and then to the mansion at a distance.
He had to admit, it was a lot of dramatic flair to bust into Creel’s office when he did, but he had been given the perfect opening, how could he not respond to being called just a piece of ass?
But then everything had gone to shit.
Robin got stabbed, Eddie disappeared and a corner of the mansion had been blown to pieces, killing four Agents and severely injuring three.
The smoke and flames were only getting higher and Eddie hadn’t reappeared yet.
Hopper looked like he wanted to stop him going back in after he had gotten Robin to safety, but they both knew nothing was going to stop him finding his baby.
Steve had never felt fear like he did carrying Eddie out of that burning building.
Eddie was slipping in and out of consciousness, sometimes speaking, sometimes going completely limp and when he muttered “I love you” with his head lolling against Steve’s shoulder, Steve nearly broke down on the spot.
He tried to stop him, tried to convince the both of them that he didn’t want to hear it now, he wanted to hear it after, he wanted to hear it when Eddie was safe and whole and okay.
But Eddie was insistent and Steve would never be able to deny him anything.
Even as he sat and watched Eddie’s chest slowly rise and fall in his hospital bed, small and fragile and delicate, he knew he’d give Eddie anything he ever wanted for the rest of his life.

13th December 2015
“Um, hello?”
Steve looked up from his curled up position on the chair by Eddie’s bed.
He was met by the sight of three familiar faces peering around the doorframe, Jeff, Gareth and Grant looking in at him with polite masks, trying to hide their confusion about who this tired and worried stranger was sitting by their friends bedside.
“Hi.” Steve said, getting to his feet and wincing at the various cracks his joints let out, giving away that he’d been sitting in the same position for far too long.
Even though he’d been at this job for nearly ten years, it never got any less weird meeting people who had no idea who he was when he knew an extensive amount about them.
He shook their hands as they introduced themselves by name but then hesitated, trying to figure out how to introduce himself.
“Steve.” He said. “I’m his…” he glanced back at Eddie then towards the boys again. “I’m- I’m… his.”
The soft smiles they gave him in response were almost enough to break his heart all over again.
He turned back, gesturing them over to Eddie’s bedside, needing a moment to get himself under control.
Grant seemed to take pity on him, breaking the silence as they all sat down, the great big bear of a man settling himself down gently at Steve’s side while Gareth and Jeff sat at the opposite side of the bed.
“How’s he been?”
Steve swallowed through the emotions and managed a smile. “He’s been in and out. It’s gonna take a few months for him to heal. His lungs and chest will always be moving while he's breathing so it’ll be harder. But he’s really just sleeping off the worst of it at the moment.”
He wanted to reach out and take Eddie’s hand again, but he felt so awkward about it.
Gareth sighed, resting his elbows on the edge of the bed and holding his head in his hands. “We always knew it would be something stupid like this that got him.” He muttered, angry and worried all at once. “I mean, he’s a demolitions expert. Shouldn’t he know not to let a building collapse around him?”
“That’s not fair, Gare.” Jeff’s eyes flicked in between Steve and Gareth like he expected Steve to jump up and start defending Eddie’s honour, but Steve knew people and he knew Gareth was just fucking stressed and worried. He didn’t blame him. It would have been worse if he’d known what actually happened.
Gareth opened his mouth as if he was about to argue back but just as quickly deflated.
“I know. Maybe now Wayne will actually be able to convince him to retire.”
Steve nodded, hoping that he would also be able to convince Eddie to keep himself safe from now on too. But now that he thought about it-
“Where is Wayne?” He asked, realising that he hadn’t seen him yet. “I would have expected him to be breaking down the doors as soon as he heard.”
Jeff nodded. “He would have been if he could have. But there was an issue with his dialysis nurse. Apparently she just up and quit out of nowhere and he’s pissed. So he’ll be in once he has a new nurse sorted out.”
“Oh.”
Shit.
Maybe he should try to help with that. It was the least he could do, really.
“How come Eddie’s back in Hawkins anyway?”
Steve fidgeted with the hem of his sleeves. “Um… that would be me.” He said, unable to meet their eyes. “I thought he would want to be back here with you and with Wayne. I know I was probably overstepping, I’m sorry-”
A warm and gentle hand landed on his shoulder. “It’s okay, man. I think he’s gonna be very appreciative of it once he’s able to tell which way is up.” Grant said, his voice soft and comforting.
Steve gave him a small smile back and settled a little more comfortably in his chair.
It didn’t last very long though, because Jeff looked across the bed at him and asked in a curious voice, “So. How did you two meet?”
And fuck.
They hadn’t come up with any kind of story about that. When would they have had the time? In between running into each other on jobs or trying to scramble for their lives and the lives of their loved ones?
The three of them were looking at him expectantly and he had to figure out something.
“Oh, we uh… I guess it was when… um- so what happened was-”
“Tried to pickpocket him.” Eddie’s wheezing voice came from the bed. Four heads whipped around to look at him as he rubbed his cheek into the pillow, his eyes gleaming in Steve’s direction. “Then he shoved me into an alley and paid- paid me $20 to blow him.” Eddie’s words were stilted and slow, his breathing a little shorter and sharper than usual, not able to move his chest as he normally would but he was coherent and sure.
Steve’s face lit up fire truck red. “That’s not-” He stuttered, trying to keep the panic out of his voice.
He really wanted Eddie’s people to like him and this was not the way to do it.
“‘S how I remember it, sweetheart.”
Jeff and Grant sniggered to themselves while Gareth hummed, placing a hand against Eddie’s arm.
“Did you at least make it good for him?”
Eddie shrugged, just a little jerk of his shoulder on his uninjured side, wiggling around to face his friend.
“Worth every cent.”
Gareth nodded like he expected as much. “Not the worst thing you’ve ever done in an alleyway.”
Eddie grinned back. “Damn straight.”
Steve squirmed in his seat, still wanting to defend Eddie against his friends who were clearly only poking fun and not taking anything he said seriously.
It was the same kind of ribbing he’d get from Robin. Maybe not from the kids, but Robin would be going for his throat in the exact same way, especially if he scared her like Eddie must have done to his friends.
Steve let himself fade into the background, watching the four of them catch up around him.
Despite his pallid and tired face lying in the hospital bed, Eddie looked like he’d been given an injection of adrenaline, alight with energy being back around his friends again.
It made Steve so happy to see he wanted to fucking cry.
With slow and calculated movements, he managed to slip out of the room, mostly unseen. Eddie’s eyes flicked over to him once or twice but there was no fear or apprehension about being left alone in them, just a small ticking up at the corner of his mouth, letting Steve know it was okay, he was well taken care of here.
Tumblr media
13th December 2015
Steve stayed gone a little longer than he had meant to.
He’d gotten on the phone with Robin, giving her an update on everything and like the two of them so often did, they ended up completely lost in conversation, it was only when she mentioned the kids had asked about how he and Eddie were doing that he remembered he needed to call them too.
The kids were beyond curious about Eddie, both about how he was healing and how on earth Steve had managed to bag such a badass assassin.
Steve frowned.
“Because I’m a badass super spy?”
“Well yeah.” Dustin agreed with an eye roll that Steve could hear. “We know that but Eddie sounds so cool and you’re just so…”
“I’m just so what, Henderson?”
“You’re just so… like… straight laced.”
“Okay, one: there’s nothing straight about me-”
“Well duh-”
“Two: I am definitely hot enough to bag someone like Eddie-”
“Ugh-”
“Keep giving me lip and I won’t let you meet him.”
“Steve.” Dustin sighed as if disappointed. “Your new boyfriend, partner, lover-”
“Oh god, don’t ever use that word again-”
“Whatever he is to you, is an assassin with a code name from D&D, what makes you think you can keep us away?”
“I’ll use my super sexy spy skills-”
“Stop-!”
“Keep him hidden away from little shithead gremlins-”
“We are all in our mid-twenties-”
“Don’t remind me-”
It went on like that for a while, as it usually did whenever he and Dustin devolved into bickering, neither of them able to get a full sentence out as they poked at each other.
“When was the last time you left the hospital grounds?”
Steve snapped his mouth shut, Max’s voice coming from nowhere through the phone while he and Dustin snapped back and forth, all the kids on speaker phone.
“I… I can take care of myself, Mayfield.”
“Uh-huh. Is that why you’re not answering the question?”
Steve pursed his lips.
“Oh, look at that! I’m going through a tunnel, bye!”
“Ste-!”
He hung up, knowing far too well that the argument that had surely broken out between the kids would take up enough time for him to come up with a proper excuse about why he’d been holed up in the hospital day in and day out and not at the hotel room provided by the Agency.
Shaking his head and seeing evening start to creep in through the windows, he decided some shitty vending machine coffee would be the best option for tonight, getting a second cup of decaf for Eddie in case he was still awake.
As he approached Eddie’s hospital room he noticed the door was now closed and based on his glimpse through the window, the boys had left. Eddie was sitting up though, propped up against his numerous pillows, which was a good sign.
Steve shouldered his way through the door, eyes on the cups in his hands.
“The kids are still crawling up my fucking ass about getting to meet you-”
Steve snapped his mouth shut, noticing the other figure in the room, sitting at Eddie’s bedside, a cane in one hand and an eyebrow raised.
Wayne.
Eddie was glancing between the two of them, not quite apprehensive but not quite gleeful either. Maybe a little nervous.
Steve blinked, still frozen in place while Wayne appraised him.
Eventually Wayne leaned back in his chair, fingers laced over his belly.
“S-Steve.” Steve said, by way of a truly pitiful introduction, like an idiot, given he was still standing there like a fish out of water.
“I know who you are.” Wayne answered, completely impenetrable. “Seems a bit sporty for you, Ed.”
“Wayne, be nice.” Eddie chastised his uncle, who didn’t take his eyes off Steve even as a slow smile curled over his face. “Look at him, the poor guy- s shaking in his trainers.”
Steve huffed, shoving his nerves down and finally getting his legs to start moving again, placing the decaf cup down on Eddie’s rolling table.
“Is this going to be my life now?” He asked the both of them. “Being teased mercilessly by everyone close to you?”
Eddie grinned at him, wide and toothy. “Absolutely.”
Steve threw himself down into the chair across from Wayne. “Well, nothing I’m not used to I suppose.”
Wayne was still smiling at him, his head tilted to the side in a move that was way too familiar, his eyes boring into Steve with an intensity he’d rarely wilted under before but Jesus Christ did he feel like wilting now.
“You’ve got kids?”
Steve felt his ears heat up.
“No, they’re… well the kids- or not kids, they’re in their twenties, but I took them under my wing a few years ago and I guess they stuck around-”
Wayne hummed, cutting him off and nodding his head.
“Ed always wanted kids.”
The squeak that left Steve’s throat was not something he would ever admit to under threat of death or torture, ever, ever, ever.
All his years of spy training, all his years of dedication and subterfuge and unflappable confidence went out the fucking window in the face of Wayne Munson, the most important person in Eddie’s life.
He couldn’t stand to look in Eddie’s direction.
“Oh, I- me… me too, I guess.”
“You guess?”
“Wayne.” Eddie said a little more forcefully. “Leave him alone. I just managed to get- get my claws into him, I don’t need you… scaring him off.”
Wayne finally tore his gaze away and Steve felt like he could breathe again.
“You finally gonna listen to me and retire from that job?” Wayne asked, turning to Eddie. “Do something a little less dangerous?”
Eddie smiled at his uncle, eyes flicking to Steve and then back again. “Yeah, I think so.”

1st June 2016
Steve was fucking exhausted.
His last few months at work had been busier than usual, the vacuum of power Creel left in his wake giving all those on the lower rungs ideas about ascending to his level and neither Steve nor the Agency were about to let that happen.
But Jesus Christ, these people did not go down easy.
Steve grimaced as he stepped into the elevator up to his apartment, the small metal box closing him in with his own smell, stagnant water, fish and something oily and greasy.
His clothes were still damp from where he and his opponent had tumbled into the old breeding pool at the abandoned salmon farm and all he wanted to do was fucking shower.
Scrub himself until the top layer of skin was removed completely, fall into bed and then sleep away the rest of the night until Eddie got back from his visit to Hawkins tomorrow.
He was pretty sure he could almost see the cartoon grey cloud hanging over his head, his shoulders slumped, his head drooped and his footsteps plodding as he made his way down the hallway to his apartment.
Steve shoved his apartment door open and was met with a sensory overload.
The sounds of guitar and drums were vibrating through the air and the smell of something garlic and creamy hitting him as he closed the door behind him. The apartment was warm and the lights were already on.
His stomach grumbled so loud, he could hear it over the metal music and he was pretty sure his mouth was fucking watering.
As he stepped further inside, Steve was met with the sight of Eddie practically throwing himself around their kitchen, head swinging back and forth, knees kicking up, fist in the air while something bubbled in a saucepan on the stove.
Darkness imprisoning me
All that I see
Absolute horror
I cannot live
I cannot-
“Woah.” Eddie said as he turned and caught sight of him, completely unashamed about what he’d just been doing, but turning the music down anyway.
Steve watched him, a little dazed, his posture still slumped and probably looking like a damp, kicked puppy.
“What happened to you, sweetheart?” Eddie asked, stepping closer. “Rough day at the office?”
Steve blinked at him, overwhelmed and bone tired.
“You’re here.”
Eddie grinned at him, stepping closer again. “I’m here.”
Steve took a few steps back with his hands up though all he wanted to do was just fall into him.
“I wouldn’t.” He frowned, even as he said it. “I smell like shit.”
Eddie’s brow wrinkled but he still continued to approach. “I don’t care.” He said, even as he couldn’t help the scrunch of his nose. “Is that fish?”
Steve grimaced as Eddie’s fingertips touched his cheek, the thick layer of grime he could feel over him making him squirm.
“Okay.” Eddie said, giving in to Steve’s clear discomfort. “You go shower and I’ll finish up your dinner. Sound good?”
Steve’s shoulders fell again, but this time in relief and he shot Eddie what must have surely been a grateful if not lovesick smile.
“Yeah.” He sighed out.
Eddie sent him off to the bathroom with a wink, the volume of the music climbing again behind Steve as he walked away, though not as loud as it had been.
Steve shuddered to himself as he peeled his clothes off, barely wasting any time between getting naked and throwing himself into the shower, not even bothering to switch it on first.
He could deal with the cold spray until it got warm.
His muscles unwound themselves and his brain finally started to get a bit quieter as the smells around him slowly changed from disgusting fish and old water smells to the soapy fresh smells of his shampoo and body wash.
Steve was no stranger to taking time in the shower, making sure he gave his hair all the love and attention it needed but tonight he stayed even longer, just letting the hot water melt his muscles into a puddle.
He had his forehead against the shower tiles, letting the water hit his back. He didn’t even jump when the door slid open behind him and a pair of tattooed arms wrapped around him to hold him tight, warm and comforting.
“Are you letting dinner burn again?” Steve asked, turning his head a little against the tile to glance over his shoulder.
Eddie was watching him with dark eyes, his lips pressed against Steve’s neck.
“No. I’m keeping it warm in the oven for you. And I’ve only ever burned dinner once.”
“Because you’re insatiable.”
“Because I love you.”
Steve pressed his arms down over Eddie’s, keeping them in place around him.
“I love you too.”
“I know.” Eddie hummed into his neck, not kissing, just dragging his lips up and down with the lightest of touches, lightly trailing his fingers down Steve’s stomach.
Steve tipped his head back as Eddie began to press his palm against him, working him up to full hardness in almost no time and sucking at the skin just below his jaw.
He was just starting to get lost in the rhythm of thrusting his hips forward when Eddie removed his hand, turning Steve by the shoulder and guiding him to lean back against the tile wall.
He watched with hooded eyes as Eddie slowly lowered himself to his knees, barely settling his weight down before he took Steve into his mouth and straight down to the back of his throat.
Steve’s eyes rolled and his head dropped back to thunk against the tiles. Eddie had his hands splayed over his hips, holding him down and Steve dug his fingers into the wet curls atop his head, not gripping or pulling, just resting there, content enough to feel the small bobbing motions.
“Baby,” he panted, tilting his head back down and watching Eddie look up at him with those huge eyes, lips red, cheeks hollow and fully hard. “Touch yourself, please.”
Even though his mouth was stretched around Steve’s cock, he still somehow managed to grin, knowing Steve was desperate to see him enjoy himself as well.
Steve brought his other hand up from where it was hanging limp, using it to tangle his fingers with the one Eddie still had on his hip, holding on tight while he was brought to the edge in record time, spilling down Eddie’s throat embarrassingly quickly while Eddie worked himself in his hand.
If Steve had thought he felt boneless before, it was nothing on what he felt now, his legs shaking and his mind calm and quiet while Eddie stood, just in time to cum all over Steve’s stomach.
He looked down as it was all slowly washed away under the stream of water then back up when Eddie hooked a finger under his chin, guiding him into a slow and sweet kiss, full of love and affection.
“Are you feeling up to dinner?” He asked, soft against Steve’s lips. “Or do you just want to go straight to bed?”
Steve blinked at him slowly, his eyelids feeling weighted down.
“I need to eat.” He muttered.
He’d love nothing more than to go straight to bed, but he couldn’t let all of Eddie’s hard work cooking him food go to waste. He’d never missed a dinner Eddie had made him and he didn’t intend to start now.
It wasn’t that he didn’t want the food Eddie made him, he very much did and it had smelled divine but he wasn’t completely sure he would be able to stay awake through the whole thing.
And he’d missed him.
Eddie had been gone for a few days already by the time he’d been called out on his latest mission and Steve had ached to have him near again. He wanted to be close and he couldn’t force Eddie into bed with him when it was barely even seven in the evening.
Eddie was watching him with those burning and intense eyes like he was picking apart all of Steve’s thoughts and scanning through them, cataloguing them and tucking them away for later.
“Okay.” He smiled against his lips. “You want me to help you dry off and get dressed?”
Steve tipped his head to the side, burying his nose into Eddie’s neck and pulling him in tight.
“I’m just glad you’re home.”
Eddie squeezed him back.
“I’m glad I’m home too.”

Steve settled his gun harness around his shoulders, so lost in thought he nearly jumped when Eddie rounded the corner and leaned against their closet doorway.
“Something on your mind?” Eddie asked, arms crossed, the black of his wedding band stark against his skin, the only jewellery he was wearing this early in the morning.
Steve nodded, bucking himself in. He took the few steps forward until he was in Eddie’s space, running his hands up and down his arms.
“Do you remember what one of the first things Wayne said to me was?”
A crease appeared in Eddie’s brow to go along with the confused smile on his face.
“That you were too sporty for me?”
Steve shook his head, gripping Eddie’s arms tighter.
“He asked me if I had kids.”
Eddie’s mouth drew into a tight line.
“Not this again, sweetheart, please-” he moved to pull away but Steve held him tighter, keeping him in place. He knew that if Eddie wanted to break out of his grip he could have but he felt a small little bit of relief when he stayed where he was.
“And he said you always wanted kids too.”
“I did. I do. You know I do. But we’ve talked about this so many times-” Eddie sighed, pressing his forehead against Steve’s collarbone. “Your job is too dangerous. We can’t expose kids to that.”
“When I first took in the Party, they were practically kids.”
“They were teens. That’s different. We don’t need kids to have a full marriage.”
Steve nosed into Eddie’s hair, cupping the back of his head.
“But you want them. I want them.”
Eddie just burrowed in deeper. “But we don’t need them.”
“I don’t want to die with regrets, baby. I don’t want to be old and grey and thinking I shouldn’t have let my job get in the way of life with you.” He placed a kiss against Eddie’s temple. “And you’d be so pretty with children swinging out of you.”
That got Eddie to laugh. “Oh yeah, real pretty. You get to swan off and shoot people in the face. Meanwhile I’m back here, trying to handle fucking… Spider-Man birthday parties or something.”
“You’d love it.” Steve grinned, bringing his hands up to cup Eddie’s face, pulling his head back just enough to look at him. “You love being my little house husband.”
Eddie turned his head, grinning into Steve’s palm.
“I do.”
“I’ll talk to Hopper when I get back, okay? See if I can transition over to training duty for new recruits or something.”
“Really? You’d give up your dream position for that?”
Steve dipped forward, pressing a slow, sweet kiss against Eddie’s lips.
“You’re my dream, baby.”
Eddie rolled his eyes, but brought his hands up to circle Steve’s wrists.
“Who taught you such sappy talk?”
“You did.”
Steve brought him in for another kiss, just as sweet and just as loving as the last. They were only broken apart when his watch beeped.
“I have to go.”
Eddie walked him down to the front door, lingering just inside the threshold.
Steve kissed him again, squeezing his hand.
“I’ll talk to him when I get back.”
Eddie nodded, a hopeful smile on his face.
“When you get back.”
A week later Steve would open his eyes to Eddie’s tear streaked face by his hospital bed, whispering to him angry and devastated, “If you ever do that to me again, I swear to god sweetheart, I’ll take you out myself.”
Steve just gave him a weak grin in return, squeezing his hand.

18th August 2023
Steve groaned as he blinked his eyes open. His back was still aching after being amateurly tied to that chair for however long. Being kidnapped was such a drag.
“I want to have kids with you.”
Steve blinked down at Eddie curled up against his chest, the morning light giving him a soft halo of light as he turned his head, chin digging into Steve’s sternum, eyes bleary and tired.
Like he hadn’t slept a wink all night.
“What?”
“I thought-” Eddie tightened his arms momentarily, not enough to aggravate Steve’s back, but enough that he could feel it. “I thought you were gone. For a few terrible moments after Chrissy called… I thought you were gone. And I kept thinking that I’d missed it. I’d missed out on it. That I could never have it again because you were gone and I’d never get to see you hold our baby or push our kid on the swings or help them get ready for their first prom. You were gone and I’d missed my chance and I’d never have it again. I’d been so scared. I was so scared. I don’t want to be scared anymore, I’ve done enough of that in my life.” Eddie’s voice had started to crack and he buried his face back into Steve’s chest.
Steve felt like his heart was breaking.
“Baby-”
“I’m sorry. I’m sorry I was scared. I didn’t think- I thought we’d have more time-”
“Hey. Hey, baby, come here.” Steve pulled at Eddie’s shoulders, unable to drag Eddie up his body but making his wants known. Eddie sniffled into his chest hair but wiggled his way up the bed regardless, burying his face into Steve’s neck while Steve enveloped him as much as he could.
“We have time. We have all the time in the world. Don’t jump into anything you’re not sure about-”
“I’m sure.” Eddie pushed himself up onto his elbows, his eyes red and his nose running. “I’m sure. I’ve been sure for a while, I just didn’t know how to- I kept putting off telling you, waiting for a better moment.”
“It’s alright.” Steve soothed, running his hand through Eddie’s hair, already knowing he’d give him everything. “It’ll be a big commitment, what with my back-”
Something like hope was starting to dawn on Eddie’s face, as if Steve could have ever thought of denying him anything.
“We’ll make it work. And you can walk again. Plus we’ll be getting your car soon, with the push pull pedals. We’ve fought bigger battles than this before.”
Steve smiled at him.
“Yes we have.”
Eddie kissed him, wet and messy and elated.
“I love you, sweetheart.” He whispered against his lips.
“I love you too, baby.”
Part 1 Part 15 AO3
It's done! Thank you so much, everyone for your support through this story, it's one of my favourites I've ever written and I LOVED how completely unhinged everyone was with me while we screamed about these two boys.
The song Eddie is listening to in the kitchen is One by Metallica, an absoloute banger of a song. It in no way is symbolic or reflective of his internal thoughts, it's just a song that fucking slaps. 😅
