Does Hoffman still test Rigg in the jigsquad au? Since he’s not a one man show in the au, he wouldn’t need to recruit Rigg?

he does, partially because changing the narrative of iv that much seems impossible, but also because. well. i do think hoffman saw potential in rigg and realised that john was probably going to die soon and figured that the murder family could benefit with somebody else helping out. i’m not a hoffman guy outside of jigsquad so i don’t have a lot of thoughts on his dynamic with rigg and he wanted out of him, especially in canon, but in jigsquad at least…his reasoning imo is “either rigg joins us and we have two officers on the inside, or he’s at least more sympathetic to our cause….OR, he dies, and that’s one less cop we have to worry about.” he’s probably hoping for the former but it's not really something he can waste much time being upset about, given everything else that happens that night (john dies, strahm lives, amanda gets shot, they almost get caught).

i also think on a logical level, it does make sense for them to test rigg, given that they also tested matthews and kerry. like. from an efficient murder trap enthusiast standpoint it's understandable that they'd put all the top players on the case through tests of their own. if they win their games then they're worthy enemies and if they fail they fail. i think with rigg in particular, hoffman knows that he's not going to stop digging, especially after what happens to matthews and kerry, so setting him up to join the apprentices or die...there's still solid reasoning to it, even if he doesn't really need rigg to join the team. i guess you could say that testing rigg is more like, insurance for them. either he sees what they see and things get easier, or they have one member of law enforcement looking into them. win/win, as far as deeply broken serial killer family logic goes.

HOWEVER. whether that logic would have panned out is a whole different thing because i can't...really imagine rigg vibing with everyone and everything. MAYBE in canon (although again, i'm not a hoffman guy so i don't really think about him and rigg much), but given that amanda rigs (HA!) kerry's trap and they knowingly hold matthews hostage for six months (still not sure when the others find out about that but like. that was a thing that happened), it seems unlikely to me that he'd be okay with all of them had he passed his test.

so. yeah. rigg still gets tested, and his game and its outcome don't change, but the reasoning behind everything is slightly altered.

Well, to me, it was a major turning point in the story of pink diamond’s shattering. We got proof that Rose couldnt have done it with her sword, and all the theories that blue Zircon brought up were mind blowing.

i mean... i guess part of why it didn’t do much for me is i was kinda “ahead of the curve” with that theory, yknow? nothing zircon said really surprised me.

like. i’d already put it together that something was Very Wrong with rose’s backstory from the second bismuth mentioned she was “just another quartz made right here in the dirt”, 2 seasons earlier. that was a done deal.

and your mileage may vary, but from how i remember the fandom... the impossible sword was handled in such a way (there’s no callback to what bismuth said, just mentioning that ‘it was a sword’) that people were mostly trying to make it yellow diamond whodunit. which... did absolutely nothing for me, because i wasn’t really looking for the kind of tragedy p’rn where pink is just your agency-free waif who exists for other characters’ benefit.

i think it also... irked me, how some in the fandom were so eager to have it be  yellow who did it... it seemed to hinge on this basic idea that a character being stressed during her trying to get closure over her fellow diamond meant she was Totally Guilty, Look How Tense and Suspicious She is. 

like... yeah, it confirms rose’s sword was involved... but Some folks acted like this was all totally new and challenging information, and then took it to the Least interesting conclusion. it felt like just me and a few others were entertaining that, no, rose WAS involved and probably/maybe pink herself. you can’t just scapegoat yellow as an easy conclusion.

plus, many of the reasons zircon lists were... if not wrong, very biased?

i know people act like she Had It All Figured Out, and she says many “technically” true things... but she was still working within a very homeworldian mentality - which, sadly, many didn’t challenge. that of course a pearl, if present, wouldn’t do more than overdramatically cry out for her diamond. so zircon dismisses her out of hand and moves on to this all just being a propaganda lie by the other diamonds still in power... which for some reason, people in the fandom found compelling? i really don’t get that. i didn’t see the appeal of it being yellow (or white) At All.

zircon’s is just a perspective, like any other - not at all an infallible one. the best parts of the episode were the unsaid things... like how she SHOULDN’T have brushed pearl aside so easily, or DIDN’T know that the sword couldn’t shatter.

to me, what makes this story great is that it was pulled off by the last thing any of the HW crew expected - an alliance between the least respected diamond, trying to destroy the colonial effort, and the pearl with the courage to risk it all.

oh, absolutely. Billie speaks of her own expierences when she was at his age, teaches him the ropes such as how to Stealth as an assassin, how to go undetected while stealing some rich prick’s stuff, how to have better control over his powers, etc. She’d ask him how’s the Outsider, and lrb would ask her how’s Daud. 

I like to think Lrb is quiet and reserved, a byproduct of his upbringing, but once you got him going on about rats he doesn’t shut up. Not that Billie minds too much, she’s trying to get this kid’s confidence up so he can think clearly and rationally when he’s in a pickle

No it was my tiefling warlock that was a ‘’’’retired’’’’ cult leader while also being a party member in the campaign so it’s complicated how the party is supposed to navigate this whole scenario haha No real cult leaders!

is love to see an episode of the jigsquad sitcom (maybe the first) where john doesn’t know they saved adam yet so they all try to hide him from john and get into so many close calls. maybe john knew the whole time and was fucking with them, maybe not, who knows, certainly not the apprentices
