Piece I did a little while ago after thinking about Elaine of Astolat for too long.
[ID: An Illustration of Elaine of Astolat and Nimue. Elaine is lying down in a boat in a similar fashion to many classical paintings of her. In one hand she is holding lilies and in the other a letter. She has pale skin and red hair and is wearing a blue dress. On one side of the boat is a tapestry depicting some sciences from her life including Lancelot’s arrival and departure. Nimue grips the side of the boat from inside the water. She has light blue skin, red eyes, sharp teeth, and long black hair. Beside her is a speech bubble that says “get up.”]

The Whumps of March 2024: "Suicide"
A series of vignettes based on Arthurian legend, collected on AO3 here.
Some might call it a suicide. But she hadn’t known what the curse would do. And in that moment, she hadn’t been thinking about the curse at all. All she had wanted was to look out her window. To see the world for itself, rather than its image in the mirror.
She wanted to see that knight passing by. Truly see him. Maybe he would have even turned, and seen her too.
How long had it been since anyone saw her? How long had it been since she existed outside the confines of her room?
It was true, strictly speaking, that Elaine of Shalott had caused her own death.
But she hadn’t chosen to die. If anything, for one brief moment, she had chosen to live.

Hello. Can I request Arthuriana movies/series where on of the Elaine s appears (Elaine of Cobernic/Elaine of Astolat/Elaine of Garlot)?
hi! request granted!
Knights of the Round Table (1953)
BBC The Legend of King Arthur (1979)
Merlin (1998)
The Mists of Avalon (2001)
she's the mother of galahad in them all, sometimes combined with astolat, sometimes not. no garlot. i only recommend the first 3 appearances.
EDIT I FORGOT ONE!! in bbc the legend of king arthur (1979), there's a character "eleanor" who's equivalent to elaine of astolat! so that show actually has both!

Sir Bors was like, "Dude, she wasn't the only woman who was too obssessed with you."
Sir, said Sir Bors, she is not the first that hath lost her pain upon you, and that is the more pity:
Coz Sir Bors was also there when Elaine of Corbenic happened to Lancelot 🙃
Does Sir Bors also know of guinevere/lancelot or not yet? This is juicy.

Elaine of Astolat
"What know I?
My brethren have been all my fellowship;
And I, when often they have talked of love,
Wished it had been my mother, for they talked,
Meseemed, of what they knew not; so myself--
I know not if I know what true love is,
But if I know, then, if I love not him,
I know there is none other I can love."

lancelot and elaine by henry justice ford, dinadan, palamedes, tristan and isolde by @meteorologia
[ID 1: a black and white illustration. lancelot in full armour kneels while elaine ties some material around his helmet. /end ID 1
ID 2: a digital illustration of palamedes, tristan, isolde and dinadan sitting around a table, dressed in modern clothes, playing cards. /end ID 2]
lancelot and elaine, though fated not to be, could have been much happier together; many point to elaine's death as a turning point for the story and characters, after which camelot is doomed.
the tristiana quartet have so many cute moments together, it would just neatly wrap them all up, and between them they could all manage to smooth over each other's worst habits.
